Plan A
Running with the Ball 15
Fourteen projected the surveillance footage into Su Xin’s retina. Su Xin signaled that she understood.
What could He Qin be so anxiously seeking? What else but something that could get her pregnant.
If He Qin were to get pregnant, it would only make this drama more and more exciting.
Su Xin didn’t care what she was going to do; anyway, all she needed was to get the evidence after the fact.
The secretary was feeling that this was the nth day her life had become surreal.
The CEO’s mood had been really good recently. Although she still had the same impassive, cool beauty’s face, you could always feel that the bone-chilling aura around her had faded somewhat, making everyone less timid and afraid.
Also, the CEO arrived and left work on time every day. The secretary had actually gotten used to this, moving from initial shock to current habit.
But that wasn’t the most important part. The most important part was that the secretary discovered her workload was slowly decreasing.
This terrified her.
Some tasks that were originally hers to do were being taken and handled by the boss herself, and they were handled very quickly. That method was clearly not the CEO’s handiwork.
From this, the secretary drew two conclusions.
One, the CEO was probably in a relationship, which was why she was as happy as if she were bathing in a spring breeze1 every day, arriving and leaving on time to go on dates.
Two, the CEO might have another little assistant on the outside, and that assistant was super-competent. Who knew when they might come to replace her.
Perhaps these two conclusions could even be combined into one: the other assistant the CEO had on the outside was the person the CEO was in a relationship with.
Suddenly, my future feels so bleak.
The secretary was extremely anxious. Although she knew she would get good offers at other companies, they might not be this good, and the boss she’d meet wouldn’t be this good either.
And so, the secretary raised her question when she delivered some documents today.
“Boss, is our company getting a new hire?”
“No.”
The boss said no, so it’s definitely a no. That means my job should be safe. But the secretary still had questions.
“Boss, I’ve noticed my workload seems to have lightened recently. There are some documents I can process before giving them to you; you don’t have to take them directly.”
Although those things could make the secretary work overtime until she wanted to vomit, they gave her a sense of security. If she was collecting this salary without doing a corresponding amount of work, the secretary would be very panicked.
“I have someone helping me handle things on my end. They’re doing a pretty good job, right?”
“I can definitely tell their professional skills are very strong.”
“Of course. Is there anything else?”
“No, nothing else.”
“Then you can go back to work.”
The secretary walked out of the CEO’s office, feeling like she only half-understood. Had she just been unwittingly subjected to a face full of public displays of affection?2 Why did the CEO’s tone sound so proud?
The sunlight was bright and beautiful, dancing on the branches and sparkling with a dazzling light.
Bai Jianglan was working at the company, Su Xin was at home playing Xiaoxiaole3, and Wen Linlang was out fooling around with Xu Yiman.
Time passed by at a leisurely, unhurried pace. Su Xin squinted at the view outside the window and gently shook her hair.
For a split second, she would feel a dazed sense of unreality, as if her entire being was drifting, drifting, with no idea where she would land.
But that feeling only lasted for a moment. When her hand touched the object she was holding, the real, solid feeling would make her feel that she was still in this mortal world.
Master Fourteen, how is that new host of yours?
【Not bad. I think all my hosts are quite outstanding.】
Master Fourteen, do you get tired?
After asking this question, Su Xin felt she was being silly.
How could an AI get tired?
【I do not.】
Just like the computers or other things created by humans, they worked day and night without rest. They might need to enter standby or sleep mode, but they would never feel mentally exhausted like humans do.
Master Fourteen, what kind of person is your master?
【A very amazing and outstanding person, but his health is poor. He is sick. He was destined to be a genius, but he was not fated to live long. The power of his soul is weakening day by day, and his lifespan is shortening drastically. He originally planned to just let himself die, until he met his lover.】
That sounds like it would be a very romantic love story.
【It seems so. In short, for the sake of love, he persisted and refused to give up on his life, so he researched and created us. The power you all provide is continuously converted and transferred into his body, but it is consumed too quickly.】
We will all live on properly.
【Mm.】
Su Xin used to think that, anyway, life back then was just what it was. It felt like every day was a repetition with nothing interesting. If she were asked to die, she wouldn’t be willing, but if she were to keep living like that, it didn’t seem to have much meaning either.
But after truly dying once, she finally knew just how precious life was.
She would live on properly.
Night fell quickly.
Bai Jianglan got off work on time to go home and cook. As a non-typical CEO who had been self-reliant since her school days, living alone and taking care of her own daily life, Bai Jianglan had unlocked her cooking skills.
Although it had been a long time since she had last been in a kitchen, because there was no need. She almost always had her lunch and dinner at the company, and breakfast was ordered from a shop.
“How did you feel today? Was it very boring staying at home alone?”
“Mm, after you left for the company, I played Xiaoxiaole all afternoon. Good thing this game doesn’t have an energy limit, so I’ve already passed 140 levels this afternoon.”
There were 200 levels in total. Su Xin planned to battle the rest tonight.
“Why don’t you come to the company with me starting tomorrow? You can just sit in my office.”
“Is the internet in your office good?”
Su Xin just wanted to quietly be a salted fish4. After she finished dealing with her own business, she would still have plenty of time to do her own things.
“Of course.”
“Then take me with you tomorrow. After I finish handling the things I need to, I’ll just watch movies and play games.”
“Okay.”
Wen Linlang didn’t come back for dinner that night. In fact, besides sleeping here at night, she was basically never home all day.
Su Xin’s phone vibrated twice. She had received a new message from Wen Linlang.
Alright, now she won’t even be home at night.
“Linlang said she’s not coming back to sleep tonight. She’s staying at a friend’s place.”
“Mm.”
Dinner was very nutritious, with the dishes being as light as possible to suit Su Xin’s current tastes.
Su Xin discovered that Bai Jianglan was a bit dense. She clearly liked her but never said anything. Her actions were always like a gentle rain that moistens things silently5, treating her well in a very honest way, not flirting at all, and always just watching her quietly.
It was as if she were silently saying, I will always be there, I have never left. As long as you turn around, you will see me.
Being liked by such a person should be a very happy thing, but waiting for this person to confess would probably take who knows how long.
Su Xin smiled to herself. As Bai Jianglan was clearing the dishes, her palm brushed past Bai Jianglan’s hand as if by accident. As expected, Bai Jianglan’s body went stiff, but she immediately pretended nothing had happened and nonchalantly continued clearing the table.
This isn’t some cold, overbearing CEO at all, just a little cutie.
After Bai Jianglan finished tidying everything up, she sat down next to Su Xin.
Bai Jianglan didn’t bring work home today. Because her efficiency was much higher today, and she was preoccupied with getting back early to see Su Xin, she had finished all her work in a very short time.
“Do you know how to take selfies?”
Su Xin was fiddling with her phone, looking at what cute filters there were.
Bai Jianglan’s expression became a little strange. She knew her phone had these functions, but she had never used them.
Those sweet, cute things didn’t suit her.
“Come, come, let’s take a picture together.”
Su Xin held the phone a little further away. Both Su Xin and Bai Jianglan were in the frame, which showed a cute cat filter on top.
Bai Jianglan looked at the two ears on top of her head in the phone, and the cute cat whiskers on her face. Her cold expression looked a bit awkward, so she revealed a smile.
Click.
“See? This looks much better.”
Bai Jianglan looked at the cute photo with Su Xin and couldn’t help but nod.
That’s right, she really is good-looking, so cute. It’s just that there’s not much flesh on her face. If she were a little chubbier, she would probably be even cuter.
Su Xin switched through several filters, then draped her arm over Bai Jianglan’s shoulder.
“Come, come, let’s do this pose.”
Su Xin brought her lips close to Bai Jianglan’s cheek, just a tiny distance away from touching.
Bai Jianglan felt in a daze that they might have already touched. She could feel the faint, warm breath Su Xin exhaled, spraying against the side of her face and making half her body go numb.
Su Xin took several shots—click, click, click—and sat back to the side, completely satisfied.
Bai Jianglan felt like she was already floating. Who am I? Where am I? How did happiness come so suddenly?
“I’ll pick out some good ones and send you a copy.”
“Okay.”
Bai Jianglan took out her own phone, staring at the screen very nervously.
Su Xin quickly sent the photos over one by one. Su Xin was responsible for making funny faces and acting cute, while Bai Jianglan basically had one expression. Bai Jianglan looked at the photos of the cheek-kissing pose over and over again.
She couldn’t help but touch her own cheek, unaware of how gentle her expression was at that moment.
But Su Xin saw it, and was in such a good mood that she even started humming a song.
Teasing a little cutie is indeed the most interesting thing.
Bai Jianglan silently set one of the photos as her wallpaper and turned off her phone.
He Qin got the medicine that was said to be very effective from her mother.
An hour after eating a low-calorie dinner, she swallowed it down, then went to the bathroom and washed herself clean.
Lying on the bed, she took out a small bottle and applied some medicine to her lower body.
When the sky had turned completely dark, she dialed Feng Linhan’s number.
After hanging up, she let out a breath.
You have to be up to the task, He Qin thought, stroking her own stomach.
