Fate Trading System – Chapter 304

Plan A

Running with the Ball 8

Leaving work on time every day to see Su Xin caused Bai Jianglan’s work to stall.

But she didn’t feel it was a waste of time at all; in fact, she was very happy. As long as she felt something was valuable, it was definitely not a waste of time. So, even if it meant bringing work home and working late into the night, she didn’t mind.

After about ten minutes, the doorbell rang.

Bai Jianglan confirmed it was Wen Linlang through the peephole before opening the door. Wen Linlang naturally changed her shoes and walked in.

Wen Linlang’s relationship with this perpetually cold-faced cousin of hers was pretty good. Although she was still a bit scared of her, as she grew up, she found some common ground with her cousin and wasn’t as afraid as before.

Wen Linlang was very mischievous as a child, and her parents doted on her excessively, so she wasn’t afraid of anyone. It was just this cousin, three years her senior and always with a cold face, who unnerved her. None of her other older brothers or sisters could handle her. Of course, Wen Linlang was just a bit mischievous, not some spoiled ‘bear child’1, and she knew her manners.

The fact that Wen Linlang grew up spoiled without going astray was partly thanks to the influence of Bai Jianglan and her siblings. Therefore, despite being cousins, Wen Linlang got along very well with this group of older brothers and sisters.

“What brings you running over to my place?”

“It’s a long story. Cousin, I’m heading straight to the guest room. You haven’t thrown my clothes out, have you?”

“They’re still here.”

Wen Linlang nodded. She had clothes here, though she didn’t visit very often. Wen Linlang was just afraid her cousin might think she wasn’t coming anymore and clear out all her clothes.

“Cousin, why did you bring work home? If Uncle and Auntie saw you working even more desperately than before, they would definitely get angry.”

Wen Linlang really didn’t know how someone in this world could love studying and working so much. Actually, that wasn’t quite it. Wen Linlang had long since discovered that this cousin of hers was not good at socializing.

Not the business sort of socializing, of course, but the kind involved in friendships. Simply put, Bai Jianglan just didn’t know how to find any fun for herself.

If she wasn’t allowed to work, she probably wouldn’t know what to do with herself.

“Let them say what they want.”

Bai Jianglan looked at her documents, appearing busy.

Bai Jianglan’s workspace wasn’t fixed. Sometimes it was the study, sometimes she liked to set up in the living room, and occasionally she even liked the balcony; she wasn’t rigid about it.

Her fun probably consisted of just these things. No, that’s not right. Now, something else should be added to the list.

Visiting Su Xin, chatting with Su Xin, feeding Su Xin—all of it was quite interesting.

Bai Jianglan’s heart was without distractions2, so her work efficiency was very high. She finished handling all the backlogged work before the early hours of the morning.

Wen Linlang’s door was tightly shut, but Bai Jianglan guessed the little lass definitely wasn’t asleep yet. After taking a shower, Bai Jianglan returned to her room to sleep.

How could Wen Linlang possibly sleep? The successive shocks made her feel like she was about to explode.

Some things, if you bottle them up, feel awful and painful. The longer you keep them in, the more you hurt yourself internally. It’s better to let it out; that way, you’ll feel more and more relieved.

If Wen Linlang went online and said she’d been ‘third-ed’,3 she would surely receive a lot of comfort from people. But through a screen, even with the mental consolation, it felt like something was missing.

As she was venting by frantically playing games on her phone, she received a message.

She glanced at it, twitched the corner of her mouth, and continued playing her game.

Su Xin had a good night’s sleep. The next day, she didn’t feel as unwell, and her morning sickness wasn’t as severe.

“You look a little better than yesterday, you know.”

The young nurse said with a smile as she set up her IV drip.

“Is that so? Thank you.”

“Your reaction isn’t too severe. I’ve seen some really serious cases, people who vomit until the sky and earth turn dark4. Some even posed a threat to the fetus.”

“That sounds terrifying.”

“Just press the call bell when it’s done, okay?”

“Okay.”

Su Xin made herself look less well than she was. She vomited once more in the morning, and when Wen Linlang came to see her, she quickly brought her a cup of water.

Su Xin rinsed her mouth and rubbed her belly.

“Linlang, you absolutely must not lose your composure later. If you can’t help it, just keep a sour look on your face when he comes in.”

“No problem, no problem.”

Wen Linlang wasn’t sure she could hold back, so she adopted Su Xin’s method.

Therefore, when Feng Linhan came in, he found it a bit strange to see Wen Linlang standing in the hospital room with a dark expression on her face.

“Linlang’s here? What’s wrong?”

“She’s throwing a fit at me. Says I didn’t tell her about something so major for so many days. She just got here not long ago and has been scowling the whole time.”

Su Xin said with a hint of helplessness, but her expression was extremely gentle.

Wen Linlang kept an angry expression on her face, but in her heart, she wanted to kneel down and call her Dajie a ‘master’.

What is a true acting god? This is a true acting god.

Just a moment ago, she had an indifferent look, and in the blink of an eye, she could face this scumbag with a smile.

A chill rose in Wen Linlang’s heart. She thought of another person—when that person was angry at outsiders, you couldn’t tell at all. They would still be smiling. So, so scary.

If a girl says ‘I’m angry,’ it’s mostly her just being pouty. But if a girl says she’s not angry, and is even smiling, she’s most likely truly angry.

The gentler the expression on Su Xin’s face, the more excited Wen Linlang felt inside.

Crush him, crush him, crush him!

“Still such a childish temper.”

Feng Linhan placed the insulated food container on the table, seeing Wen Linlang’s behavior as nothing strange.

“Fine if Dajie didn’t tell me, but you didn’t tell me either. Honestly.”

Wen Linlang complained with a pout. She just couldn’t bring herself to say the word ‘Brother-in-law’.

“Yes, yes, my dear paternal aunt5, it’s our fault.”

Feng Linhan took the food out of the insulated container, set up the small overbed table in front of Su Xin, and placed the dishes on it.

Feng Linhan saw the fruit basket and fresh flowers on the table and teased Wen Linlang.

“Yo, our little one came quite well-prepared. But these flowers are a bit less than fresh.”

“They’re not from me.”

Wen Linlang shook her head, indicating she hadn’t brought them.

“Did another friend come to see you?”

Feng Linhan took out a wet wipe for Su Xin, who took it and wiped her own hands.

“Not really my friend. It was your cousin. She said she happened to see me at the hospital and came to visit.”

“Cousin?”

Feng Linhan was puzzled. Where would he have a cousin from?

He was truly a great man, forgetting so many things. Forgetting the very excuse he made up himself?

“Her name is He Qin. You brought her to meet me once.”

Hearing this name, Feng Linhan’s movements stiffened, and his expression changed slightly.

Good, at least he had some reaction. If he could hear the little three’s name from his own wife’s mouth and feel nothing, then his level of shamelessness would have truly reached the peak of perfection6, a true fighter jet among scumbags7.

“Oh, so it was her. We haven’t been in contact for several years, I didn’t even place the name for a moment.”

In his heart, Feng Linhan was actually shocked and angry. How could He Qin come here without discussing it with him first? What if Jiang Xiao discovered what was between them? Jiang Xiao had just had an accident and was pregnant; she absolutely could not take any more shocks.

“Is that so? That girl is very nice.”

Feng Linhan already had a guilty conscience, and hearing his wife praise He Qin made him feel even guiltier. He tried his utmost to keep his expression from revealing his panic, forcing a stiff smile.

Su Xin had long since taken in his entire reaction but pretended not to have noticed a thing.

She, who should be cooperating with his performance, would continue to play her part well8.

“If you’re busy with something, I can take care of Dajie here. You should hurry back to school and take care of your students. I’m here.”

Wen Linlang spoke up.

“Ah, okay. Thank you, Linlang. I’ll come see you again this afternoon.”

Feng Linhan said the first part to Wen Linlang and the last sentence to Su Xin.

“Mhm, go on and get busy. Don’t worry too much about me, I’ll be fine on my own.”

Su Xin nodded meekly, her rare display of vulnerability causing Feng Linhan’s heart to soften.

He had to go have a proper talk with He Qin now; his mind was a mess.

He didn’t even dare to imagine what Jiang Xiao’s reaction would be if she discovered the truth. He absolutely could not let Jiang Xiao know.

After confirming Feng Linhan had left, Wen Linlang closed the door.

“Hmph. Garbage. And he’s supposed to be a role model for his students.”

Su Xin slowly ate her meal while playing on her phone.

Wen Linlang made a phone call, said a few words, and then hung up.

“Dajie, that person is already in position. We just have to wait for the photos. Hopefully, he can capture something explosive.”

“Mhm. Have you had lunch? Let’s eat together.”

“I’ve already eaten.”

Su Xin ate about half of the food before losing her appetite and setting the insulated container aside.

“Linlang, throw this bouquet out. It’s already wilted anyway.”

“Alrighty.”

Wen Linlang tossed the flowers into the trash can and sat down next to Su Xin to continue playing on her phone.

Su Xin’s fingers flew across her laptop, the mouse sliding, as she stared at the screen with a serious expression.

“Dajie, are you working?”

“Yeah.”

“Wow, your company is so inhumane! You’re pregnant and hospitalized, why are they still making you work?”

“No, I asked for it myself. I worked so hard to get to this position, how could I give it up so easily?”

“You… At least pay some attention to your body. Why are both of you working so hard?”

“Who else?”

“My cousin, of course. Her family is clearly very rich, but she still works so hard. There’s nothing more terrifying in this world than this: someone with a better family background and better looks than you also works harder than you.”

“You just be a salted fish9 in peace.”

Feng Linhan didn’t go to the school. Instead, he drove to He Qin’s home and called her from there.

He Qin hurried back from the flower shop, already having a good idea of what this was about.

“Linhan, what’s wrong?”

“You went to see Jiang Xiao yesterday?”

“Yes. I was taking a friend to the hospital that day and happened to see Jiang Xiao covered in blood. I originally wanted to see what was going on, but I figured you would definitely come, so I left. Yesterday, I wanted to go see if she was okay. Even if our relationship is what it is, she doesn’t know about me, and I don’t want anything bad to happen to her either.”

He Qin’s expression was a little hurt.

“Did you think I was going to have a showdown with her? After all these years, how could I possibly do that? I was just worried about her, and I was also worried that you would be sad if she got hurt.”
