Plan A
Running with the Ball 7
“Don’t worry, take your time. Who bullied you?”
Su Xin struggled to pat her head and grabbed some tissues from the cabinet.
“I’ve dated a few guys these past few years—dated then broke up, dated then broke up again, it was never right. I finally met this current one, we’d been dating for almost half a year, and it turns out he’s this kind of motherf#cking scumbag.”
“The other day, I was holding his arm, walking down the street, right? And this woman walks out from the corner, looked a little familiar, and without a second word, she comes up and slaps both me and that scumbag. Wow, I was so pissed off.”
“Look, there’s still a mark. She hit me yesterday.”
Wen Linlang aggrievedly stuck her face out for Su Xin to see.
Indeed, there was still a faint mark on her face.
“I’ve never been slapped by a woman in my entire life, from childhood till now. My first thought was to grab her and hit her back, but then I understood what was going on.”
Wen Linlang had been fierce since she was a child, and her parents doted on her. The first time she’d ever been slapped was in high school when she was caught playing on her phone and her head teacher slapped her in front of the whole class.
Originally, Wen Linlang had decided to admit her mistake. If she got scolded, she got scolded; if she had to reflect, she’d reflect. It was her fault to begin with, but what was the deal with slapping her right off the bat?
Wen Linlang had immediately shot back with a “f#ck you,” kicked over a desk, shattered a water cup, and sent books flying with clangs and bangs.
The teacher angrily said he was going to call her parents, and Wen Linlang shot back, “Call your mom’s parents, you psycho,” and just like that, she dropped out, transferred to another school, cool as could be, and became a legend at that school.
“You realized that guy was cheating?”
“Yeah, so the three of us had a confrontation right there on the street and figured out what was going on.”
“That girl said sorry to me; she thought I was doing it on purpose. I figured I’d let it go, but there was no way I was letting that guy go.”
So, in front of a huge crowd, Wen Linlang beat that guy into a pulp. Wen Linlang wasn’t the type to just slap or scratch people; she went straight for punch after punch, a few kicks, a shoulder throw, and a back suplex. It hurt just hearing about it, and the original girlfriend was completely stunned.
Wen Linlang broke up with him on the spot, then told the original girlfriend, “You should break up with him too. He’s a dog, not worth forgiving.”
“I’m guessing you beat him up.”
“Bingo. But I’m still a little sad. After all, that guy’s acting was seriously good. He completely fooled me.”
Wen Linlang wiped away her tears, her heart aching and miserable. At the time, to prove just how angry and sad she was, she had specifically gone extra hard on his face.
“It’ll pass. You’ll definitely meet someone better.”
“Mhm, after all, for a girl as good, as gentle, as sweet and lovely as me, it’s their loss if they don’t cherish me.”
Wen Linlang’s personality is probably the antonym of gentle, sweet, and lovely.
“Actually, there’s more to the story. I’m not done yet.”
Wen Linlang gripped Su Xin’s hand. Su Xin let her hold it, glancing up at her IV drip. There was still a little less than half to go.
“Don’t tell me that scumbag begged you to take him back? I don’t think that’s very likely. Could it be that scumbag begged the original girlfriend to take him back?”
After all, Wen Linlang had beaten the guy up that badly. If he still begged her to come back, his brain was probably beaten silly.
“No. If he really did that, I’d pin him to the ground and beat him up again.”
“After I was done, I was still really upset, so I just dragged the original girlfriend to go eat. He and I were originally planning to get dinner anyway. I was starving, and I was even hungrier after the fight.”
“And then?”
That mindset—finding out you’re the little three, beating up the guy, and then still being able to drag the original girlfriend out to eat—was just… awesome as hell.
Su Xin thought that original girlfriend sounded pretty decent too. At least she apologized to Wen Linlang after figuring things out.
“I thought she looked a little familiar, and she thought I looked a little familiar too. Then we were sitting at the restaurant, me looking at her, and her looking at me.”
“Pfft…”
“And so, the clever, quick-witted, and adorable me took out my phone, opened the search bar on my social media app, and discovered that she was, in fact, on my friends list.”
“It really is a small world. Where in life can you go and not run into someone you know, huh?”
Su Xin’s shoulders shook with laughter. That really did sound a bit awkward.
“Turns out she was my deskmate in my third year of middle school. We had a pretty good relationship, but then I went to a different high school, not the same one as her. And you know, I transferred again in high school. With a new environment, of course you have to make new friends. We both had our own lives, we were so far apart, we had no idea what the other was like, so we gradually lost contact. We only just saw each other again yesterday, and under those circumstances.”
The thing that can kill a relationship is never a dramatic betrayal or entanglement, but the silent, grinding passage of time.
It can slowly blur the image of someone who was once inseparable from you, until they finally disappear from your memory.
Forgetting is far more terrifying than hating.
Wen Linlang felt like her story could be posted on a gossip forum1 and become a pinned, top-tier thread.

“Ai, and then? Did you two make up?”
“Not really. It just got more awkward, so in the end, we silently ate our meal and had our drinks, then went our separate ways. The more I thought about it today, the more frustrated I got. It was even more frustrating tidying things up at home. I threw all his stuff out, and now I don’t even want to go back. It’s so annoying, and it felt awful keeping it bottled up.”
“Do you feel a lot better now?”
“Yeah.”
Wen Linlang’s eyes were a little red. What made her sad was the genuine feelings she had invested and her wrongly tarnished reputation. In her entire life, Wen Linlang hated being wrongly accused of anything, especially the shameful reputation of being the little three. The fact that the original girlfriend was a good friend from her past just made it all the more… something.
There was only a tiny bit left in Su Xin’s IV drip. Su Xin pressed the call button for the young nurse to come and remove the needle.
Only after the young nurse left did Wen Linlang continue speaking.
“Let’s talk about you, Dajie2. How did you suddenly get into a car accident? It’s a good thing you’re okay.”
“I was careless. Something happened at the time.”
“When did it happen?”
“The day before yesterday, I think.”
“Brother-in-law must have been worried sick.”
Wen Linlang actually found Feng Linhan and Jiang Xiao’s relationship incredible. After all, graduation season is breakup season, but the two of them stayed in the same city to work hard, were still together after so many years, and finally got married successfully. From their first year of university until now, it was really long-lasting and touching.
And Feng Linhan had a particularly good temper. Wen Linlang had never seen him argue with Jiang Xiao more than a few times.
“I don’t want to talk about him.”
“What’s wrong? Did you two fight?”
“See that bouquet of flowers?”
“Mhm? What about it? It’s very pretty. From your husband?”
“From the little three.”
“Holy sh#t?? The hell did you say?!”
Wen Linlang let out a yelp, then quickly covered her mouth. Shouting wasn’t allowed in the hospital.
“Are you sure? No way, right? F#ck. Damn it, I kind of want to hit someone.”
Wen Linlang was already pissed off to begin with, and hearing this made her explode.
Su Xin briefly explained the situation to her. Wen Linlang gripped a corner of Su Xin’s blanket, gritting her teeth.
“That scumbag, trash, ptooey, disgusting. I really couldn’t tell he was such a beast in human clothing. How can they all be such good actors? I’m never believing in love again.”
Wen Linlang paced back and forth, trying to calm herself down. She was having a little trouble controlling her Qilin Arm3.
“Seven years? How could he! And he had the nerve to marry you! And he’s a teacher? Does a scumbag like that even deserve to be one?”
“Here, calm down, have an apple.”
“Dajie, how do you seem so calm?”
Wen Linlang felt like her heart was being clawed to shreds.
“It’s been two days.”
“Dajie, don’t be too sad. We’ll get a divorce, and I’ll beat him and that little three up for you. I’ll make sure every punch lands square, kick the scum to the curb. You’re so beautiful and capable, finding a second husband will be a piece of cake, absolutely not a problem.”
“I’m not getting a divorce for now.”
“Huh? You’re still not giving up after all this? Don’t tell me it’s for some lame reason like ‘a child can’t be born without a father’?”
“Of course not. I can’t let them off that easily. If I get a divorce, wouldn’t that be exactly what they want? No, I should say, wouldn’t that be exactly what the little three wants?”
“I want to make them cry and beg me. Otherwise, how could it possibly make up for all the hurt I’ve suffered over so many years?”
“Dajie! You really are my Dajie! Cool!”
Wen Linlang instantly understood Su Xin’s thinking. That’s right, you can’t let them off easy.
“If there’s anything you need me for, just say the word. Anything I can do, I’ll do it. I’m super free right now, an unemployed vagrant.”
“Okay.”
The two chatted for a while longer, and Su Xin started to feel very sleepy.
“Dajie, you should get some sleep. You have a little baby now, take good care of yourself. I’ll come see you again tomorrow. Should I bring you lunch?”
Wen Linlang was afraid she wouldn’t be able to wake up in time for breakfast and would end up letting Su Xin go hungry.
“No need. He’s coming to bring me food at noon.”
“Let’s not eat what he brings. I feel sick just thinking about it.”
“It’s fine. Just let him serve me.”
Su Xin smiled.
“Right, Dajie, do you have any info on that little three? I can help you vent some anger. A sack over the head in a dark alley, I’ll make sure no one knows it was related to you.”
“He Qin, owner of the ‘Meet Flora’ flower shop. Don’t be impulsive. You can make a move when I say you can.”
“No problem. Dajie, do you need me to hire a private investigator to take some pictures of her and Feng Linhan? We can use them as evidence later, throw them right in their faces.”
“Good. I’ll pay for it.”
“Why are you being so formal with me? This kind of scum-trashing business is my favorite thing to get involved in.”
“Okay.”
Su Xin really did need this. She looked forward to the day she could use those photos.
“I’m heading back first. You get some good sleep. Call me if you need anything, my phone is on 24/7.”
“Okay.”
Wen Linlang drove off, but not back to her own home. She made a call from her car.
“Cousin, can I crash at your place for a while?”
“What happened?”
“Nothing much, that house is just a little disgusting.”
“Come on over.”
At home, Bai Jianglan hung up the phone and continued with her work.
