Plan A
Running with the Ball 3
The “true love” type may not be the most destructive, but they’re definitely the most nauseating.
You have to look at everything relatively. Su Xin1 felt that if it were a contractual relationship or one where they were merely superficially harmonious, with a mutual agreement or a tacit understanding, then she would have nothing to say and nothing to be disgusted about.
But in a situation like the original host Jiang Xiao’s2, the scum man and the third party appeared particularly disgusting.
The main source of the family’s income was actually Jiang Xiao. In a relatively large city, Jiang Xiao’s monthly income was 15,000 yuan, while Feng Linhan’s3 was 5,000. Logically, whoever’s income accounted for the larger proportion should have more of a say, yet Jiang Xiao gave a portion of the money to Feng Linhan to manage. In matters not involving her work, she listened to Feng Linhan on everything, big and small.
Jiang Xiao was very busy, so she wasn’t a housewife, but she didn’t want this to give her husband the feeling of being a house-husband4. Therefore, she gave partial control of the family finances and the power to handle household affairs entirely to Feng Linhan, hoping this would make their relationship a little better.
Jiang Xiao thought she was successful, because the facts showed that their relationship had indeed become more harmonious. But the truth, how could it be like that? It was only because Feng Linhan had a “wild flower5” that he liked on the outside.
To say the scum man didn’t like Jiang Xiao… that wasn’t entirely true either.
Jiang Xiao was Feng Linhan’s ideal type back then, which was why he pursued her. The two of them came to fruition6, and even after he had a third party, he still planned to marry Jiang Xiao.
He admired a beautiful, poised, and capable girl like Jiang Xiao, but he also couldn’t part with his “understanding flower7,” who was well-behaved, clingy, willing to sacrifice for him, and was his “true love.”
Hah, what an inherent flaw.
After a comfortable sleep, Su Xin checked the time: 4:50 PM.
Jiang Xiao had a mother in her hometown, but their relationship wasn’t very good.
She had been busy building her career all these years. Aside from some business partners or friends she got along with, she had almost no friends in this city. She was a very lonely person.
That’s why even though she had just been through a miscarriage crisis, there was no one to ask after her or come visit her.
This gave Su Xin some peace and quiet. The more people Jiang Xiao was familiar with, the more people she would have to pretend in front of. She couldn’t be bothered to deal with insignificant relationships.
From her memories, Su Xin saw what Jiang Xiao’s mother had done. Su Xin simply couldn’t bring herself to compliment that personality; all she could say was that such shameless, bizarre, and biased people truly exist in the world.
Some people live in their own worlds as a matter of course. Because everyone around them is a good person, they think everyone in the world is a good person, just like the protagonist of A World Without Thieves8.
But in reality, beyond that cognitive scope, this world is still rife with the ugliness of human nature.
Jiang Xiao’s mother only had one daughter, Jiang Xiao. She had gone through great difficulty to raise her and send her away to study.
Logically, such a mother-daughter relationship should have been very close and very good, but Jiang Xiao was truly angry with her mother.
Jiang Xiao’s mother was a typical rural woman, possessing the traditional mindset to value men and belittle women9.
What’s hilarious in this world is that it’s often the abused who end up becoming the abusers. Jiang Xiao’s mother grew up being unwelcome, always troubled by the fact that she wasn’t a boy. She married early, but was unable to bear children for many years. When she finally had a child, it was a daughter.
But Jiang Xiao’s mother wasn’t proud of Jiang Xiao’s achievements; instead, she felt it was to be expected and took all the credit.
But if Jiang Xiao herself hadn’t been smart, hardworking, and ambitious, there was no way she could have reached her current heights.
Jiang Xiao’s mom had a nephew. Jiang Xiao’s mother doted on him, treating him like her own son and incessantly giving him reverse subsidies10.
Jiang Xiao was furious that her mother took the money she had worked so hard to earn and gave it away to an outsider to curry favor. After multiple failed attempts to persuade her, the atmosphere between the two became very tense.
Su Xin didn’t dwell on those things. She arranged her plan for what was next. Someone would surely be more impatient than her and wouldn’t be able to resist jumping out first.
True love, is it? Better to let them see each other’s true faces, and then let the dogs bite dogs11. That would be the most interesting.
Master Fourteen.
【I’m here.】
Help me look into some reliable, good-quality camera equipment. I want to buy a few to install at home.
【Alright.】
The corner of Su Xin’s mouth curved into a slightly wicked arc as she stroked her lower abdomen.
Little one, you’re going to have a very good life.
Su Xin turned on her phone. There were two missed calls, both from company colleagues. She called them back one by one.
“Boss, I want to ask for leave.”
“I was in a car accident on the way, otherwise I’d crawl my way to the company. If you’re willing to come see me, I would naturally be infinitely grateful.”
“You can hand that over to Ah Mai12 for processing. She’s been following the progress all along, she should be able to handle it on her own at this point.”
“Of course, there are many things I can still handle, it’s just my legs that are inconvenient. My brain wasn’t damaged.”
Su Xin didn’t tell her boss about her pregnancy. This was a problem many companies considered when hiring female employees, because women will always get pregnant and have children, thus needing to take maternity leave.
Su Xin didn’t want to be fried into a squid yet13. She was indeed very talented, but this city was never short of outstanding talent and people who wanted to get ahead.
In fact, if she went to another company, Su Xin could still develop very well, but it would be impossible to reach the height she had achieved at her current company right away.
Unless it was a last resort, she would not give up this job.
Su Xin asked a nurse for the numbers of nearby delivery places and ordered congee and steamed dumplings to eat.
In the nurse’s eyes now, Su Xin was a complete poor little thing14. She looked like a successful career woman, but even so, no one had come to the hospital room to visit her all afternoon, and no one was staying with her.
Her husband came for a look, said he was leaving, and then left.
A few young nurses huddled together, whispering and muttering, having already begun a discussion about family discord.
At six in the afternoon, Su Xin received a call.
It was from Feng Linhan.
“Xiaoxiao15, what do you want to eat tonight? I can make it at home and bring it over. I have to go cover a shift tonight, so I’ll head back after I drop off the food for you.”
Su Xin’s expression was scornful. This good husband act of his is too subpar.
“You don’t need to worry about me, I’ve already ordered delivery here and have eaten dinner. I’ll probably be able to leave after recuperating for about half a month. You don’t need to worry too much about me, it’s nothing serious.”
“Then what about your work?”
“Aren’t there still computers.”
The injuries Jiang Xiao sustained weren’t serious. Besides a mild concussion, some contusions, and a minor fracture, there were no other problems.
Despite her inner scorn, Su Xin’s voice was still gentle.
“Then I’ll come see you at the hospital after I get off work tonight. You have to call me if you feel uncomfortable at all.”
“Okay.”
Su Xin hung up the phone and rubbed her chin.
I wonder if the third party knows about my pregnancy at this point. If she knows, her expression will surely become very interesting.
This meant Su Xin wouldn’t be able to go home for half a month. She felt leisurely in her heart. She had created such a great opportunity for those two; she hoped they wouldn’t disappoint her.
Although Su Xin planned to install cameras at home, she couldn’t implement it yet. But in her heart, Su Xin also knew that the significance of installing cameras at home wasn’t that great, because there was no way Feng Linhan would be bold enough to bring the third party home.
In the residential complex where they lived, people saw each other all the time16. Even though neighborly relations were distant, there were at least familiar faces. Feng Linhan cared a lot about his reputation; he would absolutely not do something like bring a strange woman home to be criticized by others.
So their trysting spot was probably the third party’s home.
It had already been seven years, they couldn’t possibly still be running off to hotels all the time, right? After all, they weren’t youngsters anymore.
Bai Jianglan17 didn’t work overtime today. According to her usual habit, she would definitely work overtime until nine or 10 o’clock before going home, but after she returned this afternoon, her mind had been in an unsettled state, and her work efficiency was extremely low.
Bai Jianglan never knew she was such a curious person. As she was handling her work, her mind would irresistibly drift back to the earlier scene—that woman lying on the ground, gripping her hand tightly with her blood-stained one. But the scene would change in the next moment, to her speaking gently with her husband on the phone, only for her face to turn cold after he left.
She didn’t seem to have any intention of hiding anything in front of her, or to be more precise, she had no intention of hiding anything in front of outsiders.
It could also be because she was the one who had saved her, and had then overheard her say such things.
Bai Jianglan walked out of her office. The secretary looked at her watch in surprise.
“Boss, do you have something urgent?”
“I’m getting off work early today.”
The secretary’s eyes widened in surprise, thinking that the boss must have taken the wrong medicine today, or perhaps had finally taken her medicine, to actually be getting off work on time.
Bai Jianglan planned to go see Su Xin, as a gesture of humanitarian concern. At the very least, they had a cooperative relationship, and there had been some entanglement recently. It wouldn’t hurt to check on her condition, right?
Su Xin was staying in a single room. Although the fee was a bit expensive, it was still within Su Xin’s ability to afford.
When Bai Jianglan looked in, Su Xin was thinking with her eyes closed. But dressed in a hospital gown, sitting half-upright on the bed with her eyes shut, she looked exceptionally fragile.
Bai Jianglan knocked on the door. Su Xin opened her eyes.
“Come in.”
“Boss Bai18?”
Su Xin was a little surprised. Why is this big shot here?
“I came to see how you’re doing.”
“Not bad, thank you for your concern.”
There were no used water cups in the trash can, only small takeout boxes. It was clear at a glance. There were also no traces of anyone having left things on the table. No one had visited.
The suspicion in Bai Jianglan’s heart grew heavier. Jiang Xiao’s social connections couldn’t possibly be this bad.
Bai Jianglan looked at the smile on Su Xin’s lips, and the curiosity in her heart grew deeper.
The author has something to say:
Overbearing CEO Qing-jie: Very good, woman, you’ve successfully caught my attention.
Xin-jie: Should I… be a little scared?
