Plan A
Divine Vestige 8
That feeling was just too out of place, so much so that Su Xin recognized with a single glance that the one inside this cute girl’s body was Slayer.
It wasn’t that she was bizarre; after all, Slayer didn’t exude any evil aura. However, she wasn’t entirely benevolent and pure either. It was a very complex feeling.
“I told you I would come find you, Mother.”
Slayer gave a mischievous wink. Her Highness the Saintess was undoubtedly a cute and beautiful elf, full of a pure and kind aura. For Slayer to be wearing such a face gave Su Xin some internal injuries, especially when Su Xin remembered what Slayer truly looked like.
“Don’t call me that.”
Su Xin’s entire Elf Queen persona crumbled. Fourteen was helping her check if they were being watched, so she didn’t need to worry about any mistakes.
“Don’t you find this very interesting?”
Slayer had an innocent look on her face. Su Xin covered her face with her hand.
“I don’t find it interesting at all.”
Her Highness the Saintess’s hair was a moon-like silver-white, which Su Xin felt was much better than her own head full of cuckold green1.
“Alright, let’s get down to business.”
Slayer sat on the swing and patted the spot next to her, indicating for Su Xin to come over.
The swing was large, big enough for the two of them.
“Okay. Summoning a god takes time. I will try to contact her every day, but I’m not certain I can summon her unless something sufficiently important happens.”
Su Xin said she had actually considered targeting the Tree of Life. This thing was simply too important; if anything happened to it, the main god of the elven race couldn’t possibly ignore it.
But Su Xin gave up on this idea. The Elf God would surely be able to tell who did it. If she ended up botching the job, it would be troublesome.
So, they had to choose a moment when she was completely unguarded and strike suddenly.
They had to be fast, ruthless, and precise, or their mission could easily fail.
“What is Fairy’s weakness?”
Fairy was the moniker for the Elf God, something everyone knew because this great beauty’s figure had been featured in the advertisements for the game 《Divine Vestige》.
A proud elven goddess would attract many boys interested in this game.
“Her finger.”
“Finger?”
“Yes, to be precise, the middle finger of her right hand. As long as that is cut, she will die, and her divinity will be seized by us.”
“I can absorb her power without being discovered,” Slayer said.
“I can too.”
“So… will you do it, or will I?”
“We’ll play it by ear.”
“What about the power?”
“Leave it with me,” Su Xin said. Fourteen could also help her store and digest the power of the divinity.
“You don’t trust me?”
Slayer tilted her head. She could see Su Xin’s reservations.
“That’s right. What if you run off or quit? What am I supposed to do all by myself, without enough power to deal with it?”
This was a major matter concerning the mission. Su Xin always felt that trusting herself was more reliable than trusting others.
Besides, Slayer’s origins were unknown; she couldn’t feel at ease.
Su Xin could cooperate with someone whose background she couldn’t fully grasp, there was no doubt about that, but Su Xin couldn’t hand over something so vitally important.
“Based on my actions, I thought you would believe me,” Slayer said, looking at Su Xin with a somewhat disappointed expression.
“Perhaps I do believe you, but Slayer, this is too important to me. I can’t give it to you.”
“It’s just as important to me.”
“So, we’re at a stalemate?”
What kind of situation was this, having internal strife before even dealing with their common enemy?
But this issue had to be discussed and settled properly, otherwise, there would definitely be trouble.
“How about this? We each take a step back. You don’t have to doubt my objective. My objective is to eliminate it.” Slayer pointed towards the sky. “Look, we need to deal with seven of them. How about you take four, and I take three, and then we join forces again?”
“Good idea. You trust me?”
Su Xin raised an eyebrow. She knew Slayer definitely wouldn’t get lost. She didn’t belong here, and might not even be human, but she wasn’t a stream of data from this place either. Since she mentioned a mission or a command, it was highly likely she was something inserted from the outside world. Slayer would never become a Lost One.
“Of course. You are different.”
Slayer was certain of her judgment. This person’s objective was just as resolute as hers, so she wouldn’t give up halfway, wouldn’t forget herself, and wouldn’t become engrossed in this place.
This place is fake, Slayer knew. Although she didn’t know what was relatively “real,” Slayer also knew that at this very moment, this person was real.
“Very good. We’ve reached a consensus.”
“What kind of important event could cause the Elf God to be summoned?”
“How about the Elf Queen falling gravely ill for no reason?” Su Xin looked at Slayer, a mischievous smile appearing on her face.
“Sounds great. The Saintess falling gravely ill would work just as well,” Slayer nodded.
“Her weakness is her finger. We’ll only have a very short window to act when she’s not paying attention. We must be fast, and the weapon must be sharp.”
Su Xin’s gaze swept over their surroundings.
“Do we have any suitable weapons?”
“My dagger.”
Slayer opened her palm, and her dagger appeared there.
“I can go to any place and become any person. My weapon can also appear by my side at any time.”
Slayer brandished her dagger like a child showing off their favorite toy. Su Xin took it and examined the blade’s edge.
This weapon wasn’t flashy, but it felt very comfortable to hold.
“Slayer, you’re amazing.”
“I can’t do it without you. Otherwise, even if I came here, I’d be helpless.”
Slayer stopped the swing and leaned into Su Xin’s embrace.
“Then you’ll play the part of the gravely ill person. I hope your acting skills are good enough. I will pray day and night for the god’s descent. When that time comes, it will be your turn to strike.”
“No problem.”
“Honestly, I have some doubts about your acting.” Su Xin cupped Slayer’s face, studying the childish features.
If she were seen through right away, how would they succeed?
“Don’t worry. I only wanted you to recognize me.”
Slayer lowered her head, and when she raised it again, the entire aura around her had changed.
It was a pure and friendly feeling. Looking into the girl’s emerald-green eyes, which seemed to hold all the life force of the world, one would feel a sense of joy from the inside out.
Like a harmless little angel, brimming with vitality, making one wish they could hide her away and protect her well.
Yes, it was Her Highness the Saintess.
“Mother, the fruit of the seventh tree is ripe. It tastes very good. Would you like to try some?”
Her voice was also soft and sweet. Anyone who saw her would know that this was definitely a well-behaved child.
The previous ethereal feeling vanished. Su Xin swore that no one would be able to see through this act.
“Slayer, you truly surprise me.”
“Thank you. I should be leaving now. I will be properly sick later.”
Slayer stood up, smoothed out her dress, and walked towards the door.
Halfway there, she suddenly turned back and gave Su Xin a smile—a smile belonging to the young thief.
Su Xin sat on the swing, continuing to think while conversing with Fourteen.
Master Fourteen, that was absolutely Oscar-level acting.
【This one believes Host could take it as a reference.】
Master Fourteen, are you trying to say my acting isn’t good enough?
【Host is one of the more special ones I have seen.】
Fourteen had a total of three hosts. Sun Yixiao was the first, who had already departed forever. Su Xin was the second, currently doing a mission. The third host was also currently doing a mission.
The first and third were both the type to become whoever they were playing. Sun Yixiao would always break character when she got clingy, but was perfect at all other times. The third was even stricter with herself. Although she was usually a goofy joker, once she entered a mission, aside from her inner thoughts, she never went OOC, sticking to it from beginning to end. Even if it was a character whose personality was the polar opposite of her own, whose methods she disliked, she could still act it out perfectly. During a mission, only her inner self was her own, while her actions were not.
Su Xin, on the other hand, played everyone as herself.
Of course, this wasn’t a criticism. While Su Xin was playing others, she never hid herself.
Her straightforward, unrestrained, and direct nature was always present. She never hesitated in her actions. She wouldn’t do things she felt were wrong, only doing what was beneficial to her, and she would not back down.
Her sense of self was always there. She completed tasks using her own methods, not the “client’s” methods.
Each host had different characteristics, and Fourteen approved of them all.
【This one has no intention of making Host change. After all, this is what makes Host, Host.】
Master Fourteen, I’ll take that as a compliment?
【This one is indeed complimenting you.】
A host with no failure rate could be described as absolutely perfect.
Thanks. In my eyes, you’re the best system too.
【Apologies, Host. This one may need to repair its database.】
As an AI, Fourteen couldn’t blush, but just now, its database had indeed become disordered for a moment.
Okay.
Two days later, the little elves came running over in a hurry, circling around Su Xin who was on the road.
“Your Majesty the Queen, you must go see Her Highness Su’er, she’s fallen ill.”
“Alright.”
Su Xin hurried to Su’er’s residence and saw Slayer lying in bed with a sickly expression.
This acting truly was Oscar-level!
Her originally soft and beautiful silver-white hair had become dull and lackluster. Her face was extremely wan and had lost all color, making her look incredibly weak, as if she might scatter with the wind in the next moment.
“Su’er, what’s going on?”
The elf lying in bed opened her eyes in pleasant surprise, her expression filled with reliance.
“Mother.”
Every time she heard this form of address, Su Xin’s tiger-like body would tremble2.
The author has something to say:
Xin-jie: Tiger-like body trembles?
Author: …Delicate body trembles? A delicate shout?
Xin-jie: Tiger-like body trembles! I’m scared, I’m scared! So gangster! So gangster!3
