Plan A
Divine Vestige 5
There was a certain class for the human race: the Thief!
They come and go like shadows, untraceable. They love challenges, thrills, treasures, and thievery, appearing in every corner of the world.
Arrogant, uninhibited, and forever fearless.
Su Xin felt that this class suited her quite well, if she were the one playing this game.
This class challenges a person’s sensitivity, physical agility, and strength. Very few people could become a Thief, and even fewer could become the thief of thieves.
That was absolutely the most badass of them all.
That movement! That speed!
Su Xin really wanted to switch places. Not only was it a style she liked and was familiar with, but it was also faster, with no need to chant poetry-like incantations!
“You can’t kill me! I’m human! I’m a player!”
Sheng Yan realized the gravity of the situation and immediately shouted at Su Xin.
“Oh, really? A moment ago… you were still asking me what I was saying.”
Though Su Xin said this, her attention had already shifted completely elsewhere.
The Thief was as beautiful as her hands.
Her flaxen hair was tied up, with a single strand falling beside her face. Her sky-blue eyes seemed to hold the vastness of the heavens and the deep affection of the sea.
Her lips were pale, as if she lacked vitality.
Most importantly, there was nothing above her head.
Not the blue of a player, not the gray of a Lost One, and not the black of an NPC.
There was nothing at all, making her look like a true anomaly.
Master Fourteen, check her for me.
【Host, I can’t find anything.】
What?
【Her data set seems rather special. It doesn’t belong to this game, but she isn’t a player either. I can’t find any historical records on her.】
Understood.
“If you kill me, you’ll be committing a crime.”
“I think if we kill you, we’d be doing a good deed.”
“If you do this, you’re violating my right to life as a citizen of our country. You’re breaking the law.”
“Then what about when you were killing others? Why didn’t you think about that then? Besides, who’s to know that I killed you? This is just a game, isn’t it?”
Because it was a game, she only knew them as Sha Ying and Sheng Yan, nothing deeper. Although she could investigate them, they were just insignificant people. There was no need for her to do a full background check.
Sheng Yan was just an ordinary person. The era and technology were advancing, but his way of thinking hadn’t progressed much.
One could say that awareness for environmental protection and cherishing food had indeed grown much stronger, but there seemed to be no improvement in other aspects.
Sheng Yan was someone who, to outsiders, had no distinguishing features. He liked playing games, liked finding a sense of presence in them to realize his self-worth. He was very good at putting his mind to figuring out a game. He couldn’t be called a top-tier expert, only above average, and there were many people like him in the game.
But when the game became reality, his abilities here far surpassed what he had in his old reality, so he yearned to become someone even more extraordinary here.
Shakespeare once said that a person who craves to be extraordinary is the most ordinary of all.
Such a person might not commit crimes in reality, not only due to a lack of ability but also because there were no strict legal sanctions here.
But if she let him go, who knew what other kinds of people would die at his hands. He had surely killed people before, and those people were now gone forever. Yet he knew this outcome and continued to do it.
What was the difference between him and a murderer?
“Your Excellency, if it’s convenient, please take care of him.”
“Of course.”
The Thief’s lips curled into a smile. In fact, she had been observing from a distance for some time and roughly understood what was happening.
Sheng Yan collapsed to the ground, the name above his head turning gray.
“Hello, my name is Slayer.”
The young Miss Thief put away her dagger, her eyes shimmering in the sunlight.
“A good name.”
Su Xin smiled and nodded.
Slayer, the slaughterer.
“May I join you?”
Slayer walked to Su Xin’s side. Her legs were long, her steps light as she spoke.
“Your reason?”
A reason for wanting to join, and a reason why she thought she was qualified.
“I smell the same scent on you.”
Slayer lifted a strand of Su Xin’s hair and sniffed it. Her attitude seemed somewhat flippant, yet it wasn’t off-putting. Instead, it was full of allure.
“Oh?”
“You are an anomaly.”
Slayer stated this in a light, cheerful tone. She moved closer, her breath brushing against Su Xin’s fair earlobe.
“And so am I.”
“That sounds like a good reason.”
Su Xin’s vigilance deepened. Even Master Fourteen couldn’t find out this person’s origins. To be precise, she might not even be human.
Not a player, not an NPC… so how did she get in?
Could she be something created when Lang Ning and his colleagues were programming? But if so, how could Master Fourteen not find her?
“I believe we have a common goal.”
“Which is?”
“Deicide.”
To kill a god.
Slayer spoke very softly, almost whispering right next to Su Xin, so even Sha Ying couldn’t hear what they were saying. Because Su Xin was blocking his view, Sha Ying couldn’t see Slayer’s lips move either.
Su Xin raised her hand and chanted an incantation, unfreezing her magic.
“You lot, get away from here. If you’re leaving, don’t ever appear before my eyes again.”
At Su Xin’s signal, the few people scrambled away. Sha Ying consciously stood a little further back. He knew these two big shots were about to talk. Two soft-looking girls, yet it seemed he couldn’t beat either of them. They were pros, both of them.
“What do you know?”
“I don’t know anything. Hmm… or maybe I know a little?”
Slayer moved back a bit, facing Su Xin.
“Who are you?”
“A thief.”
“Where are you from?”
“From whence I came.”
“Where are you going?”
“To the place where the gods reside.”
“To do what?”
“To take them down.”
“How?”
The young Miss Thief opposite her gave a cunning smile and winked at Su Xin.
“Beautiful mage, your Induction Spell is useless on me. It seems you have more secrets. Isn’t this Light Magic?”
Slayer’s lips curved upwards, looking as if she knew everything.
Su Xin had just used the Induction Spell from Light Magic, which could make people subconsciously tell the truth. The higher the user’s magic ability, the higher the success rate and the longer the duration.
Since Lang Xuanxuan had overthrown the Saintess, Su Xin naturally had access to this spell on her skill panel. There was no need to chant; she only had to recite it silently in her mind.
“How do you know what I’m going to do?”
“The Creator God is a bad guy. ‘It’ stripped this place of everything it was supposed to have, but your things weren’t taken away. You know a lot. I think you’re going to take ‘it’ down.”
In the Western fantasy game 《Divine Vestige》, players’ IDs could be in Chinese or English; it didn’t affect anything. However, the words spoken by the players themselves and the NPCs were all in English.
It was just that it had been processed by a translation system. What everyone heard was still English, and even those who were terrible at the language would mysteriously understand what was being said.
Su Xin noticed that Slayer had used ‘it’ instead of ‘he’. This meant Slayer believed the Creator God wasn’t a person, not a deity, but an animal, or perhaps non-living… data.
“Yes, you guessed right. So, do you have a good method? For instance, a way to kill it directly?”
“Of course not. In here, it’s the master. We first have to take down its most powerful running dogs. The other gods, for example?”
“Do you have a way to deal with them?”
“Of course. As long as I can grasp their weaknesses, I can kill them. I believe you can too, though it might be a bit more troublesome for you.”
“Then do you know their weaknesses?”
“Still looking.”
The young Miss Thief seemed a little troubled. She had searched many places, but only in passing. She had, however, visited all the libraries. But what kind of book would record the weaknesses of gods?
The gods were high and mighty, mysterious, and almost never appeared. Humanity and the other races were too busy singing their praises to know their weaknesses, let alone record them.
In their eyes, the gods were invincible and certainly had no weaknesses.
Su Xin didn’t know if real gods existed, but they certainly did in this game. As a boss that could be overthrown, how could it not have a weakness?
“I have one last question. Why do you want to commit deicide?”
“Good question. Because that is my mission.”
“Mission?”
“Yes. An inexplicable, deeply rooted mission that cannot be defied and must be carried out. Or you could call it a command.”
The young Miss Thief smiled and pointed to her own head.
“That’s certainly strange.”
Su Xin didn’t know where Slayer came from or why her identity was so bizarre, but she understood one thing: she should be an ally.
“Your Excellency, I believe I’ve passed your test?”
“Of course. Welcome to the team.”
“In that case, is it my turn to ask questions?”
Slayer gazed into Su Xin’s eyes, where her own reflection was visible.
“Of course.”
Su Xin gave a noncommittal nod and removed the veil from her face, allowing Slayer to see her clearly and placing them on an equal and harmonious footing.
“What’s your name?”
“Ning Xuan1.”
“A very nice name.”
Slayer nodded and continued her questions.
“How will you kill ‘it’?”
“By killing its main children.”
The Creator God created everything, so it was the Father God. Its children were, of course, the major gods.
“How will you kill them?”
“Through their weaknesses.”
“You know them?”
“Of course.”
Su Xin nodded confidently, her dark gold hair swaying with the movement.
“Well, that’s not bad at all. We’re going to be a great pair of partners.”
“Yes, that sounds quite good.”
Su Xin nodded in agreement.
“Do you know why I sought you out?”
“Because I’m one of your kind.”
“More than that. I love all kinds of rare treasures. When I saw it, I just had to steal it.” Slayer pointed at Su Xin’s eyes. “It has captivated me.”
The author has something to say:
“I want to steal your heart! Signed, Bai Yutang.”
“If only you weren’t a thief.”
“If only you were a thief.”
