Plan A
Heavenly Voice 17
The End
Yan Shuang was transferred to a major hospital. Since she hadn’t suffered any fatal injuries, surgery wasn’t necessary. A CT scan revealed no major issues; she just looked rather miserable.
“After all that fuss, you scared me to death. It’s good that you’re okay. External injuries will heal with some rest and recuperation. My sis recovers very quickly.”
Yan Shuang was still unconscious. Yan Xi, now in the hospital room, let out a huge sigh of relief.
“Mm.”
Su Xin sat beside Yan Shuang, her mind somewhat blank, thinking about something.
“Um… I’ll get going first then. Please take care of my sis.”
Yan Xi thought for a moment. Although she really wanted to roast1 her twin sister for being too scheming, she was still on Yan Shuang’s side no matter what. After all, it was her own sister; who else would she help? So, Yan Xi very consciously started creating a world for two.
“Okay.”
Su Xin kept watch by the bedside. She dipped a cotton swab in water and moistened Yan Shuang’s lips. There was still some dirt on Yan Shuang’s face that hadn’t been completely cleaned off earlier.
This was a VIP ward in a major hospital, with excellent facilities. Su Xin went to the bathroom, dampened a disposable towel, and gently wiped Yan Shuang’s face. After wiping her face, she then cleaned Yan Shuang’s fingers one by one.
Su Xin had never done such attentive work serving someone before, but it wasn’t difficult, nor did it feel particularly awkward to do.
After finishing these tasks, Su Xin felt a bit thirsty. She had been too anxious before, hadn’t rested much, nor had she drunk or eaten much.
Su Xin wasn’t very hungry. After taking a sip of water, she took out a pen and paper from her backpack. She was writing a new song; the melody was already composed, but the lyrics hadn’t been filled in yet. She felt very inspired right now.
As Su Xin wrote the lyrics, she also made notes about where to revise the melody later.
What she was writing now was just a draft; it would definitely be revised repeatedly and continuously polished later on.
Writing and writing, Su Xin grew tired. After putting the pen and paper back in her bag, she rested her head on the side of the bed and slept for a while. When she opened her eyes again, Yan Shuang was already awake.
“The thing you promised me before, does it still count?”
“What thing?”
“Can I pursue you?”
“That’s your freedom.”
“Will you accept me?”
“That depends on your performance. I think I will accept.”
Su Xin’s eyes curved into crescents.
【Host, according to this one’s detection, your emotional fluctuations in this world are relatively rapid.】
Because I’ve figured some things out.
【Hm?】
Life is short, enjoy it while you can.2
In previous worlds, Su Xin would still get tangled up in missions and other things, but not anymore.
Although she didn’t remember what had happened before, that perspective had genuinely changed.
It’s so hard to live in this world. When you can, if you want to eat delicious food, go eat; if you want to play fun things, go play. If someone pampers and loves you, and you happen to not dislike it and are quite happy about it, then just be together.
On the eighth month and eighth day of Su Xin and Yan Shuang knowing each other, they fell in love.
Yan Shuang had an excellent memory and had memorized her research data. The lab equipment and materials had already been scrapped, so Yan Shuang used a computer to retype a copy by hand, earning widespread praise within the industry for this.
Su Xin’s career was also on a continuous rise. Her singing voice was very captivating, her resources were good, and she herself was extremely hardworking and talented; it would be hard not to become popular.
Gradually, the name ‘Lin Tang’ appeared on more and more lips.
Several months later, Su Xin met Zhao Yunhan again. They had kept in touch via a social media app. Today, Zhao Yunhan had asked her out without giving a reason.
“Shifu…”
Zhao Yunhan’s expression held joy, yet somehow, it drooped again.
“Hm? What’s wrong? What’s so important that you had to ask me to meet in person to say it?”
“It’s just been a long time since I saw you, Shifu, I missed you a bit. You’re so amazing now, Shifu. I knew you must be an exceptionally capable person.”
Zhao Yunhan scratched his head, his expression unchanged from back then.
“Not really. Just tell me what it is.”
“Actually, it’s nothing much. I originally wanted to ask Shifu about something that was confusing me, but it’s not necessary now. I already know the answer.”
Su Xin, this person, was definitely not stupid; in fact, she was extremely clever and didn’t lack shrewdness3. She knew what she should know, and what she shouldn’t know, she knew secretly. Her EQ4 used to be appallingly low5, but now it had slowly risen.
Who doesn’t have a woman’s sixth sense?
Su Xin knew the young man before her probably had some other ideas about her, beyond friendship, which was why Su Xin deliberately adopted such a cold attitude.
Some things that shouldn’t exist, things that won’t be reciprocated, are better cut off early. That way, people won’t get other ideas; giving no hope means there will be no delusion.
Zhao Yunhan was also a very perceptive young man. Perhaps he knew the gap between them was already vast, and the feelings maintained were simply insufficient to support the outcome he desired.
“Let’s just have a good meal. What do you want to eat? My treat.”
“Okay, then thank you very much, Shifu.”
When Su Xin returned, she was cornered by Yan Shuang and thrown onto the bed.
“What’s wrong? So worked up?”
Lying on the bed, Su Xin looked bewildered. Didn’t she just go out for a meal? Why did Yan Shuang seem like she’d gone berserk? Where did she get so much strength!
“You smell of another man.”
Yan Shuang lowered her head, sniffed Su Xin’s neck, and then nuzzled against it.
“I only smell of food. What? Jealous? He’s just a kid.”
“You two are the same age.”
“So you are jealous?”
Su Xin teased, wrapping her arms around Yan Shuang’s neck.
At this moment, Yan Shuang finally had the chance to realize her previous thought. Although the location wasn’t the lab, it didn’t matter where; what mattered was who the subject was.
“Naughty.”
Yan Shuang held Su Xin down and patted her lightly.
This action was really too shameless. It’s quite common between children and parents—getting disciplined, right? More severe ones involve getting spanked with a slipper on the butt, or even having pants pulled down for a good thrashing. But if the two people are adults, the nature is entirely different.
This wasn’t some special hobby performed on a specific occasion, so naturally, there were no other untoward thoughts involved; it was just flirtatious fun.
Su Xin flailed and struggled, a flush rising to the corners of her eyes.
“Yan Shuang, don’t go too far, okay? Once is enough. Otherwise, I’ll kick you off and won’t let you climb back up. Pouting won’t work next time either.”
As it’s said: tumbling amidst crimson waves, necks entwined in sleep.
Yan Shuang lowered her head, captivated. Perhaps, this was the taste of love?
Peach cheeks and cherry lips distantly connect, waist bends, knees curve, an inverted lotus hangs.6 The butterfly trapped amidst the flowers. Swaying the flower’s heart, feeling no fatigue, willow waist and jade thighs fully displayed.
A clear stream trickles down like a thread.
The flower’s heart sways on its own, feelings in disarray, just moments ago pouring red candle wax, suddenly shifting to a night-traveling boat. Lotus-seated embrace, cranes with necks entwined.
The first thing Su Xin did when she woke up the next day was to fiercely kick Yan Shuang’s butt. This person was truly sneakily mischievous.
Yan Shuang sat in the laboratory, writing records while looking into the microscope.
Beside her was her assistant, who looked like they wanted to speak but stopped.
“If you have something to say, just say it. You’ve been with me for so long, what’s there to hem and haw about?”
Yan Shuang swiveled her chair to look at the assistant.
“Laoda7, I want to request some leave.”
“How long?”
“Three months.”
“That long?”
“I’m going back to get married. After getting married, I should at least have a honeymoon, right?”
The assistant’s face beamed with a happy smile, an undisguised air of joy.
“Hm? Congratulations. Leave approved. Go back and prepare well for the wedding.”
“Mhm, mhm, thank you, Laoda.”
The assistant left happily, leaving Yan Shuang alone in the lab.
Marriage, huh… Marriage is really nice.
Yan Shuang wanted to get married too, but she just didn’t know if her little girl would agree or not.
Yan Xi had once asked her why she liked the ‘kid’.
Because she’s good-looking? Because she’s young and beautiful? Because she has a good personality? Because she sings well?
When you like someone, you should be able to give a reason, right?
Yan Shuang had shaken her head at the time. She couldn’t explain it clearly; she wasn’t very good at articulating things.
She didn’t fall for the young woman because of her appearance or her singing voice; rather, she liked her appearance and singing voice because she had fallen for her.
The first time Yan Shuang spoke with the young woman, she felt an inexplicable fondness for her. Later, she discovered they were so compatible in every aspect.
Every blink, every breath Su Xin took, she liked it all.
Rather than saying there was a soul that captivated her within this beautiful shell, it was more like this soul that turned her world upside down happened to have a good exterior.
Some year, some month, some day, a song became a huge hit.
Along with it, its creator, Lin Tang, also became hugely popular.
It was a pop song. If scrutinized meticulously, it might not quite measure up, but because of its lighthearted melody and lyrics that felt sweet, it was deeply loved by many love dogs.8
For a time, karaoke apps9 were filled with this song.
This was just a small gift from Su Xin to Yan Shuang.
The song’s name was 《Tang Shuang》10, sweet to the point of being cloying11, emanating the sour stink of love.12
She wrote this song because, on that day, Yan Shuang had proposed to her.
“Hm? Are you serious?”
“Tangtang, marry me. Although I cannot give you legal status, I can have all my relatives acknowledge your status. I just don’t know if you are willing—willing to let me stand by your side, never leave, never abandon.”
“What if I say I’m not willing?”
“Then I will wait until you agree.”
“I will give you a reply in three days.”
Three days later, 《Tang Shuang》 was released.
Su Xin took Yan Shuang back to see her mother and stepfather. The stepfather remained relatively calm, but Mother Lin nearly fainted.
“Dad, Mom, this is my partner. I brought her to meet you today. Don’t try to persuade me; this is something I’ve already decided. As for grandchildren and such, let older brother worry about that. He can definitely find you a daughter-in-law who meets your approval.”
“But Tangtang… with your current status, if this kind of thing got out…”
The stepfather was thinking on another level.
“It’s alright, Father-in-law. I will protect her,” Yan Shuang stated affirmatively.
