Plan A
Heavenly Voice 2
Neighbor
Someone living under such fear—how could they possibly have the mind to dress themselves up nicely, let alone have the mind to tidy up their home?
The apartment here was rented for her by that rich second generation guy. Back when he was pursuing her, knowing the original owner wanted to rent a place outside to make it easier to work part-time, he helped her choose this place and even paid a year’s rent. This area isn’t cheap, and the rent isn’t low either, but the living environment is excellent.
The original owner was deeply moved at the time, thinking this man wasn’t pursuing her in a vulgar way, like gifting an apartment, but rather by offering help. Yet, looking at it now, it was clearly just that rich second-gen unwilling to make a larger investment by buying a place, choosing renting as a method to conquer her.
Such a young and naive girl.
The floor was covered in scattered clothes and some takeout boxes. When Su Xin stood up, her legs felt a bit weak—this was from hunger. It seemed the original owner hadn’t eaten or drunk anything for a day or two. For Su Xin, this was completely OK, but for an ordinary person, this would be unbearable.
Su Xin first made a call to order takeout, then went to the bathroom to wash up.
By the time she finished washing up, the takeout had pretty much arrived.
Su Xin took the delivery and started eating in the somewhat messy living room. After finishing her meal and replenishing her energy, she drank a glass of water and began to tackle cleaning the place.
A three-bedroom, one-living-room apartment with good natural light—tidying it up was still a bit tiring. Besides, for someone like Su Xin, she’d rather get into a fight than clean house once.
Su Xin tidied for a while then got too lazy to continue. Seeing there was still a balance in the original owner’s account and some cash on hand, she searched online for the number of a local housekeeping company and hired a housekeeping auntie.
Someone like her was better suited to indulging in comfort, after all.
Su Xin put away the bank cards and such, locking valuables in a small safe.
The original owner hadn’t kept much in the safe, just a photo of herself and her brother.
Su Xin picked it up, thinking about taking it out, but then thought better of it and put it back.
After all, it was something the original owner considered important; best to just leave it there.
Su Xin sat on the sofa, legs crossed, playing with her phone while the housekeeping auntie cleaned.
Half a month had already passed since the original owner was injected with drugs and forced into video recordings. During this half-month, the original owner had seemingly vanished from everyone’s sight. In reality, she was either hiding at home in fear or being called out to film things.
Fifteen days, called out a total of five times—a frequency of once every three days.
The original owner hadn’t turned on her phone for two days. Inside were numerous missed calls and texts, and many messages on social media apps as well.
The most frequent caller was the bar owner. After all, the original owner could be considered an employee, and having skipped work without reason for half a month, he naturally had to ask.
The original owner sang beautifully; many customers stayed at the bar just for her, so the owner was reluctant to let her go.
Su Xin didn’t bother replying to any random messages. After clearing them, she directly called her boss. The call connected instantly, and she was met with a roar from the other end.
“Lin Tang, you finally know how to answer your phone, huh! Haven’t been abducted by aliens, have ya! Do you even want this job anymore? Disappearing for half a month—are you trying to ascend to the heavens?!”
Su Xin waited until the yelling stopped and he had calmed down before speaking.
“I’m sorry, something happened here that I couldn’t really talk about, that’s why I haven’t shown up for so long. Once I’ve handled everything here, I’ll come back to work, if Boss still wants me back. Otherwise, you can fire me, no need to pay me for the first half of the month.”
Su Xin apologized, making her voice sound weary.
“What1? Something happened to you? What2 is it, why didn’t you tell me! Don’t you trust your Ming-ge3?!”
The boss was a straightforward Northern man4, but he looked quite refined and usually spoke standard Mandarin with an air of sophistication. However, he had a fiery temper, and when agitated, a thick Northeastern accent5 would burst out in his shouts.
“I’ve almost got it sorted out. I can come back and sing the day after tomorrow. Ming-ge, you won’t kick me out, right?”
“Nah, won’t kick you out. It’s not like I don’t know you need the money. Unless you’re going back to school, my place always welcomes you. But… you’ve been gone for so many days… you gotta make it up to me, right?” the boss requested cheekily over the phone.
“Of course, no problem. How about I sing an extra hour every day?”
“Alright, it’s settled then.”
Su Xin hung up the phone, took stock of the assets she currently possessed, and then started returning calls to others.
Next, she called her mother.
“Tang Tang, you finally called Mom! I called you before, why was your phone always off? Did you see the message Mom left you last time? Your brother already woke up in the hospital, he’s been awake for several days now! He’s asking why you haven’t come to see him yet.”
“My phone had some issues the past few days, it was being repaired, so I didn’t see the message. It just got fixed today. My brother’s awake? That’s great! But I’m still not done with things here… How about I go see him the day after tomorrow? He probably hasn’t been discharged yet, right.”
“Come home the day after tomorrow to see your brother. You haven’t been back to see us in a long time either.”
The original owner’s brother had been in a coma for three months. The original owner had also been working for three months, sending her wages back home each month without returning.
“Okay.”
The original owner wasn’t working near home, but rather in the next higher-level city6.
The housekeeping auntie was very efficient. Soon, she had cleaned the balcony, rooms, kitchen, bathroom, and living room spotless. She even put new liners in the trash cans and piled the bags of trash by the door, ready to be taken out.
After Su Xin paid her, the housekeeping auntie left, taking the trash with her.
The dirty clothes were in the washing machine but hadn’t finished washing yet.
Su Xin decided to take a shower and then get some sleep; the original owner had barely slept properly this past half-month.
It was only in the bathroom that Su Xin directly confronted just how messed up7 this body was.
Just simple washing, lathering up with soap, was enough to make Su Xin feel her legs were so weak she could barely stand, and that area8 also felt very uncomfortable.
Su Xin finished her shower, clenching her teeth, her face flushed but her eyes filled with icy coldness.
Her current mood couldn’t even be described as ‘having f%cked a dog’9. Su Xin got dressed. As the fabric brushed against her chest, she felt an urge to kill someone.
Lord Fourteen, this is seriously messed up. Is there any function that can let me block this body’s sensations, or is there any way to nullify this drug?
【Very sorry, I don’t possess such a function and can’t provide you with this service.】
Okay, I understand.
There were still many bruises and marks on this body. Su Xin felt a wave of irritation looking at them, wishing those dog-things10 would just explode on the spot.
Su Xin lay down on the bed with its changed, clean sheets and closed her eyes, falling asleep.
It felt like she had slept for a very long time, but in reality, only two hours had passed.
Su Xin hung up the clothes from the washing machine, then put her own dirty clothes in to wash. The bedsheets had already been hand-washed by the auntie and hung outside.
Su Xin planned to go out to buy dinner and some snacks. She went to the bathroom, combed her hair in front of the mirror, and then put on some makeup.
Actually, it barely counted as makeup—just some lipstick, a bit of powder, and a touch of blush. The complexion of this body was simply too pale, as were her lips, making her look sickly. If she went out like this, people might think she had some serious illness.
Just as Su Xin opened her door, she heard a fierce argument erupting from the apartment opposite hers.
Their door was open. A man stood outside the door, and a woman stood by the doorway.
Su Xin saw the woman at a glance: thin-framed glasses, white casual clothes, a cold expression, her eyes revealing a detached light, looking extremely impatient with the person before her.
The key point was that the woman was very beautiful, but the aura she exuded wasn’t the aloof coldness of a secluded orchid or a snow-mountain flower, but rather an icy quality, easily reminding one of cold medical machinery.
Su Xin thought, this woman might be a doctor or a researcher.
“Divorce! I absolutely cannot live with you anymore! How can there be a woman like you in the world? You wouldn’t even let me touch you on our wedding night! Before that, you didn’t even let me kiss you or hold your hand! Yet you still call me dirty, say I have lots of bacteria! Who the f%ck doesn’t have bacteria on them!”
“So this is your reason for cheating?” After listening to the man’s pile of accusations and complaints, the woman only said this one sentence.
“You didn’t fulfill your wifely duties, why couldn’t I cheat!” the man retorted, his face red.
“I believe we had a prenuptial agreement: no touching me for two months because I had a research project I hadn’t finished yet, so I didn’t want any external disturbances. You agreed to it. But why did you have to do… that kind of thing?”
“It’s already been two months!”
“No. It has only been one month, 29 days, four hours, and twenty-seven—oh wait, twenty-eight minutes now.” The woman glanced at her watch and stated very calmly.
“You’re just frigid11, aren’t you? Why bother getting married and ruining someone else’s life?”
“Let me remind you about these things: you were the one who pursued me first. I only married you under pressure from my parents, understand? If you want a divorce, then hurry up and prepare for it. Just put the divorce agreement in front of me. I wish you and your lover a long and happy life together, and may you soon have a precious child12.”
“You… Just spend the rest of your life with your laboratory!” The man stormed off angrily.
Su Xin’s eyes met the woman’s. Su Xin offered a smile.
The woman nodded back at her, looking like she was also preparing to leave.
“Are you in research?” Su Xin asked casually as she closed her door.
“Mm, pharmacology.” The woman pushed up her glasses and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
This kind of person, you could tell at a glance, was an elite.
“So, do you guys research… chemical agents?”
“Hm?” The woman’s steps paused.
“It’s like this: I was injected with a type of chemical agent. This agent might be permanent, semi-permanent, or something else—I’m not quite sure about its duration. But it has clearly altered my body and brought me a lot of trouble. I want to know if there’s any way to treat this kind of thing?”
A regular hospital definitely couldn’t treat it, but this thing was very troublesome. For the sake of her future life, Su Xin definitely had to get herself cured.
