Bad Words
Su Xin and Chu Qiu spent another ten days together, and Su Xin lived quite comfortably.
After all, her days consisted of reading scripts and browsing Weibo, eating and sleeping, with Chu Qiu doing the cooking while Su Xin only had to eat and wash dishes.
Su Xin felt like she was being kept as a sugar baby, but without having to accompany her suger mommy with any hehehe, and there weren’t any improper physical transactions – her patron even cooked for her.
Moreover, their relationship wasn’t rigid or commanding. Most of the time, Su Xin maintained an obedient attitude toward Chu Qiu, who was her boss after all. Chu Qiu’s demands weren’t excessive; in fact, she barely had any demands except for having control over Su Xin’s sleepwear choices.
As for pajamas, whatever she wore was fine – having something to wear was better than running around naked.
“Boss, you bought too many pajamas, I can’t even wear them all.”
Su Xin sat cross-legged on the bed, holding up her new pajamas with a troubled expression.
“It’s fine, it’s not too many. I plan to buy you ten sets for each season – spring, summer, autumn, and winter. That should be enough to rotate through, with occasional new additions. You look cute in any kind of pajamas.”
Chu Qiu praised her while gently pinching Su Xin’s cheeks, careful not to pinch too hard.
“Pajama fetishist.”
“I don’t have a fetish for pajamas, only for you.”
Chu Qiu spoke the truth. These past few days of good sleep had improved her overall energy and work efficiency.
“Let’s sleep. I’ll wear this set tomorrow. I’m leaving the day after tomorrow, so you decide which two sets I should take with me – just put them directly in my suitcase.”
“Okay.”
Chu Qiu contentedly hugged Su Xin as they slept, somehow feeling like an old married couple when hearing Su Xin’s familiar tone – as if they had been together for a very long time.
She didn’t deny that she liked Su Xin being so compliant with her, even thoroughly enjoyed it. When holding her close, there was an exceptionally satisfying feeling.
“What color pajamas do you like?”
“Anything is fine, Boss. I trust your taste.”
Su Xin wasn’t particularly attached to sleepwear.
At night, Chu Qiu habitually slipped her hand under Su Xin’s clothes, feeling the warmth of her skin, not doing anything else – just enjoying the comfort of skin contact.
“Rub my belly.”
Since there was already touching going on, Su Xin simply lay flat, letting Chu Qiu massage her stomach.
“What’s wrong? Is your stomach uncomfortable?”
“Mm, it feels a bit uncomfortable. I don’t know why, but Boss, your hands are very warm.”
“It probably isn’t food poisoning. I’ll massage it for you, and if it still feels uncomfortable tomorrow, we’ll go to the hospital.”
“Okay.”
Generally speaking, there shouldn’t be any problems, since spirits have very healthy bodies and rarely catch colds or fevers, unless they’re in a weakened state and overexerting themselves.
Chu Qiu massaged Su Xin’s belly while Su Xin closed her eyes to sleep. After so many days, Su Xin had gone from being uncomfortable with someone lying beside her to being completely familiar with this embrace.
Su Xin slept peacefully through the night, and Chu Qiu, holding her, also had a good rest.
The day after tomorrow, Su Xin would be going to another film set.
The drama she was about to join was ready to air, a weekly series with two episodes per week – a large-scale historical fantasy drama where Su Xin would make an appearance near the end.
The TV series was approaching its conclusion, with seven or eight episodes remaining. Su Xin would play a minor good character who appears late in the series and dies after just three episodes.
The female lead was an incredibly powerful character who dominates everything, similar to a level-up story, though she starts at a high level and grows through various experiences. Su Xin’s storyline comes later.
The main appeal of this drama is how the female lead crushes all obstacles and her romantic entanglements with men of different backgrounds. Overall, it’s a satisfying Mary Sue story, with the female lead having a “everyone loves me” aura.
The continent has the Celestial Tribe, Human Tribe, Beast Tribe, Demon Tribe, and Witch Tribe. In this cultivation war, the Celestial, Human, and Beast tribes stand united against the Witch and Demon tribes.
At a crucial moment before the war, the protagonist is captured and imprisoned by the Witch tribe, along with the Celestial Tribe’s Holy Maiden.
Su Xin plays this Holy Maiden, who was captured before the protagonist. After the protagonist is also captured, she reveals certain information. Then follows scenes of their torture, but the protagonist cleverly and bravely manages to rescue them both, leading to a thrilling escape before the great battle.
The reason she doesn’t survive past three episodes is that her role exists to take a fatal blow. During the battle, when the female lead is ambushed, the Holy Maiden notices but has no time to warn her, so she takes the hit herself and dies protecting the protagonist.
She appears in episode 39 and meets her end in episode 42.
The drama isn’t unnecessarily long and drawn out, with a tightly woven plot. While it’s not exceptionally innovative and the actors aren’t particularly outstanding, the pacing is handled very well, making it addictively watchable.
“I’m off, bye-bye.”
“It’s only three episodes, so you should be back in about four days. Let me know before you return, I’ll wait for you at home.”
Chu Qiu brushed Su Xin’s hair before she left, giving instructions while doing so.
“Mm-hmm.”
“Have a safe journey.”
“Work well.”
This relationship was truly peculiar – neither love nor friendship.
While traveling, Su Xin messaged Bai Qianqian. Bai Qianqian actually had a rather steady personality. After experiencing certain things, she learned how to maintain proper boundaries. Having hit rock bottom and seen all sorts of ugly sneers, her perspective broadened and her temper improved.
After experiencing even worse things, one discovers that what was once intolerable becomes more bearable, and those previously hurtful words become insignificant.
She might have been angry before, but now she could face things calmly – not because her temper improved, but because she couldn’t be bothered to care anymore.
Su Xin acted as a listener, quietly hearing Bai Qianqian out when she shared her stories. After Bai Qianqian expressed her feelings, Su Xin would help analyze them. Often, what seemed like earth-shattering grievances became less significant when shared with others.
For instance, when you encounter something that makes you extremely angry, you want to tell several people because they’re all close friends you can confide in. After telling the first person, a third of your anger dissipates. Their shared indignation reduces it by another third. After telling the second person, you’re barely angry anymore.
When the third person asks, you might still speak with some irritation, but you’re no longer agitated, no longer seeing it as such a huge issue. Perhaps by the fourth person, you can speak about it completely calmly as if nothing happened.
Bai Qianqian couldn’t find other confidants; Su Xin was the only person she could trust, so they shared everything.
“Sometimes, I really don’t think you’re like a younger sister. You’re very understanding, as if you’ve seen so much. Xinxin, you’re really different from how you look.”
“Don’t judge a book by its cover. Work hard on your filming today, Qianqian. I’m joining a new crew for a brief appearance, and will probably be off to another one in a few days.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Having sailed the seas, other waters seem shallow; after seeing Mount Wu, other clouds pale in comparison.
Nothing is more significant than life and death. When Su Xin had walked through gunfire, she had already let go of many things, seeing more clearly than others.
When life is at stake, everything else becomes meaningless.
Living in this world, people love to torment themselves, but sometimes instead of tormenting yourself, it’s better to torment your enemies.
Humans are creatures who can’t get along with themselves. Sometimes when others are clearly at fault, circumstances force us to bottle up our frustrations while our enemies live carefree lives – but how can letting go be so easy?
What kind of world is this, where good and bad mix together, creating complex, indiscernible human hearts?
Classmates copy your homework and get praised, copy your test and score better, and worse still, some are like thieves, using others’ work as their own, even turning the tables, while everyone blames the victim.
It seems all victims in the world should appear begging and crying pitifully, or else they’re not ‘perfect’ – how ridiculous.
This is the best of times, it is the worst of times.
Su Xin hung up the phone, put on sunglasses, and headed to board the plane with her assistant, heading to the film set.
When Su Xin arrived, all the actors were present. She greeted everyone politely but hit a snag with one person.
That was the male lead of the drama, a genuinely straightforward and handsome guy in the industry. When Su Xin greeted everyone, they all responded well except him, who just gave a cold “mm,” making no attempt to hide his unwelcoming attitude.
Su Xin didn’t get angry, maintaining her smile as if unbothered, without putting on any airs.
After all, she wasn’t a delicacy – how could everyone like her?
Su Xin first familiarized herself with the female lead, since most of her scenes would be with her, and she didn’t have much interaction with the others.
Su Xin shot her first scene, taking several takes to get it right. During the break, she heard the dissatisfied voice of Chen Bai, who played the male lead.
“Director, wasn’t Ji Yu previously considered for the Holy Maiden role? Why the sudden change? There’s no need to make pulling strings this obvious, right?”
“We only said we were considering her. And where did you hear that from? Ji Yu isn’t available, and we can’t afford her anyway. She took other projects and turned us down. Am I not allowed to find someone else?”
The director, who seemed to have a good relationship with Chen Bai, answered directly while playfully tapping Chen Bai’s head with the script.
“But it shouldn’t have fallen to her. What has she ever acted in? There are so many actresses to choose from.”
“Can’t I do what I want? Just focus on your own acting and stop meddling.”
The director, apparently not wanting to continue this topic, dropped the script on the table.
Su Xin walked out, and both of them fell silent.
“She even eavesdrops.”
Chen Bai muttered, earning a fierce glare from the director.
“First, this is a public space, and I could hear you from around that corner, so it’s not eavesdropping – your voice was quite loud. Second, it seems you were talking about me behind my back?”
Su Xin said calmly, even managing a smile at the director.
