Su Xin took a car to Chu Qiu’s company, got out at the company entrance, and followed the boss inside.
Many celebrities establish their own studios after becoming famous, signing artists and leaving their original companies to become their own bosses. However, some celebrities won’t do this, especially those from Tianyu. Industry insiders praise Tianyu’s CEO’s abilities and strong cohesion, as their money-makers never leave.
In truth, it’s because spirits have strong unity and loving relationships, and would never betray trust. Moreover, they wouldn’t dare leave since their manager is a tiger, their immediate superior is a wolf, and that wolf particularly loves money.
The receptionist’s eyes lit up when she saw a pretty young girl following her boss, thinking this must be a new talent the boss discovered somewhere. A new face for the screen, and quite adorable too – another beautiful face to admire.
“Follow me to my office to meet your manager. I’ll have someone print the contract, and you can sign it shortly.”
Chu Qiu was very methodical, explaining everything clearly.
“Alright.”
Su Xin was carrying an empty clothing bag with Yangyang inside.
Su Xin took the elevator straight to the CEO’s office on the top floor, following Chu Qiu inside.
She placed the clothing bag on the sofa. Yangyang huddled inside, not daring to come out, being very well-behaved – after all, a rat suddenly appearing in this place would seem quite unsanitary.
“Boss.”
The incoming assistant was an attractive woman in professional attire, emanating a capable aura.
“Go print a contract. How about signing for thirty years?”
Chu Qiu looked at Su Xin, seemingly asking for her opinion, but her tone carried an undeniable authority.
“That won’t work.”
“Why not?”
“Boss, I might not live that long.”
Though Su Xin appeared only eighteen or nineteen years old, due to her life expectancy, she might only live another 25 years.
“Hmm? Why would your lifespan be so short?”
Su Xin nodded, explaining that rodents naturally have very short lives because of their strong reproductive abilities. If they could both reproduce prolifically and live long lives, they would become a plague. Nature is always fair – each species has its reason for survival and its life limits.
Su Xin had previously researched wolf lifespans; a boss-level wolf like Chu Qiu could live at least two hundred years.
Su Xin hesitantly glanced at the assistant, unsure whether to speak.
“Don’t worry, she’s a rabbit spirit. Though a bit timid, she’s very diligent. When you can’t reach me, you can contact her.”
Timid???
Su Xin observed carefully as the capable young lady’s eye twitched upon hearing Chu Qiu’s words.
“I think she’s quite brave.”
“Indeed, indeed.”
The assistant nodded.
“For a rabbit to dare work beside a wolf, that’s extremely courageous.”
“I was forced into it.”
The young lady’s expression crumbled, looking like she wanted to bang her head against the ground.
“If she wasn’t so plain-looking, I would have sent her to act long ago.”
The CEO looked at her dramatic assistant and said coldly.
Su Xin smiled, seeing that the boss wasn’t so serious after all – the atmosphere was quite pleasant.
The young lady immediately closed her mouth, making an expression of utter heartbreak.
“My natural lifespan is only 2.5 years. After becoming a spirit, it increased tenfold, though that’s still not very long by human standards.”
Su Xin spread her hands helplessly, her small face downcast, looking pitifully adorable.
Speaking of which, Yangyang wouldn’t live very long either.
Her rat cousin had only achieved sprite status [jīng – lower level than spirit], and although he lived longer than an ordinary rat, his lifespan was much shorter than Su Xin’s.
“I see… Then let’s make it twenty years.”
Chu Qiu ordered, and the assistant sister nodded.
“Alright.”
She was quite the tyrant, not giving others any chance to refuse.
Su Xin complained internally while maintaining an obedient and docile expression.
“Later, I’ll have Ling Tian, your manager, come pick you up and take you to your new home. You won’t need to pay rent. I’ll take my cut from your future earnings through commission.”
“Thank you, boss.”
She was truly grateful.
“The residential complex where you’ll live has excellent security. Most neighbors are wealthy spirits or those from the entertainment industry, along with some humans. You can visit other spirits when free, though I doubt you’ll have much chance since you’ll all be busy.”
The words came like machine gun fire, yet each syllable was crystal clear, creating an overwhelming pressure.
“I understand.”
There weren’t many spirit artists, but since Chu Qiu first established this entertainment company, she had drafted specific agreements for spirits. After decades of development, the contracts had become increasingly comprehensive.
The contract was printed quickly, and the assistant sister soon knocked on the door to deliver it.
“Since you can read, take a look at this agreement. If there’s anything you don’t understand or are unsatisfied with, feel free to speak up. But don’t delay too long.”
“Alright.”
Su Xin took it, casually flipped through it, and went straight to the last page to sign her name.
“Good, now you’re officially an artist under our company. Would you like to choose a stage name, or use your current name?”
“I’ll just use my current name.”
“Alright.”
“Relax, would you like some coffee?”
“May I ask if you have tea? I find coffee rather bitter.”
Su Xin’s face flushed slightly as she asked shyly.
“Of course, no problem. Rabbit, go pour her a cup of tea.”
The boss spoke, and the assistant nodded and left.
After the assistant sister brought the tea, someone knocked on the door shortly after.
“Sister Wolf, I’m here. Is this one a little mouse?”
A man with a gentle smile entered, wearing black-framed glasses, looking amiable and approachable. One would never guess he was a tiger spirit, much less a top-tier manager.
“Yes, the one on the sofa. I think she has good spiritual qualities. Develop her well.”
“Understood.”
Su Xin looked at the tiger spirit, the term “smiling tiger” [xiào miàn hǔ – someone who appears kind but is dangerous] coming to mind.
“Manager sir, I’m a hamster.”
Hamster, understand? Very fierce.
Not the same species as a mouse – she only called Yangyang brother because she was a spirit while he was a sprite.
Actually, hamsters are very territorial animals that live alone. After reaching adulthood, each hamster must have its own cage, preferably even before adulthood, as they will attack their own kind.
It’s not just about food and water, or territorial instincts. Hamsters sometimes eat their own kind, especially when one dies or carries potential disease. Hamsters become extremely frenzied at the sight of blood.
The hamster lady had been suppressing her instincts since becoming a spirit, while Su Xin wasn’t affected at all since she didn’t have such instincts. Though she naturally preferred solitude anyway, except when with Qiu Qingqing.
Qiu Qingqing was her exception, and she was Qiu Qingqing’s exception.
“Alright young lady, just call me Brother Ling, and I’ll call you Xiaoxin. Is that okay?”
The tiger spirit said politely. On his way here, the rabbit spirit had already sent him her information.
“Of course, no problem. Hello, Brother Ling.”
Su Xin nodded at Ling Tian’s completely unthreatening face, but her mind wandered to another thought – why did Ling Tian wear glasses? Could spirits be nearsighted too?
Tsk, scary.
“Take her to get familiar with her new neighbors. Put her next to Mountain Chicken [pheasant, not the frog], no wait, that woman likes to compete over beauty. Put her next to Snake instead.”
Snake… although Yangyang wasn’t a field rat, he still trembled in the bag.
“Boss, snakes like to eat mice,” said the knowledgeable Ling Tian.
“Oh, is that so? Let me think… who else lives in that complex?”
“How about next to Miss Snail? She’s quite gentle.”
“Then do as you say.”
Miss Snail hadn’t entered the entertainment industry; she was the founder of a cosmetics brand, mainly producing skincare products that were very popular – her snail essence [wō niú yuán yè – snail-based skincare product] was excellent.
“Come with me. I’ll look for suitable resources for you tomorrow and secure them as quickly as possible.”
“Thank you, Brother Ling.”
Su Xin nodded, picking up her bag.
“Don’t rush to take on work yet. I’ll first arrange for teachers to train you. Once they confirm you’ve passed, you can go out and enjoy yourself. Though before that, you can appear on some variety shows to build your name.”
“Yes.”
“By the way, Boss, won’t my sudden appearance in the entertainment industry raise suspicions? I’ve never attended school and have no experience.”
Su Xin thought of an issue – after all, once someone becomes a star, their past experiences would be dug up, especially their schooling.
“No need to worry. You’re a direct entry [kōng jiàng – someone who enters a position without going through normal channels]. It’s fine to say that publicly. You’re my new talent that I’m promoting. Don’t mind what others say, just focus on doing your best. I’ll handle the rest.”
“Mm-hmm.”
“If you’re unsure about how to respond to something, just smile silently.”
“Yes.”
Su Xin forced a smile.
“Yes, that kind of smile. You’ll be successful. I have a feeling you’ll become my treasure.”
Chu Qiu said confidently.
And indeed, this spirit later became her treasure – in her hands, in her heart, and in her fingers.
