Okay, goodbye.
Su Xin was still lying on Qiu Qingqing’s bed when she left, now she’s back and rubbing her eyes.
“Qingqing, I’m sleepy, let me take a nap.”
“Mm.”
Qiu Qingqing’s voice was soft as she watched Su Xin’s back, lying flat and closing her eyes too.
Su Xin slept happily, and when she turned over to get up, she found Qiu Qingqing still hadn’t woken up.
Wow, this is rare – being able to see Qiu Qingqing’s sleeping face.
Because Qiu Qingqing either goes to sleep later or wakes up earlier than her, so chances to see her sleeping face are very rare.
In her dreams, something seemed to make her especially happy – her features were relaxed, lips slightly curved upward, looking like a beautiful dream.
Wonder what she was dreaming about.
They were very close, and Su Xin saw Qiu Qingqing open her eyes.
“Awake?”
“How could I not wake up with you staring at me like that?”
Qiu Qingqing sat up in bed, stretched lazily showing her slender waist, and Su Xin smilingly stroked it a couple times.
“What good things did you dream about? You were smiling so happily.”
“Of course I dreamed about you.”
Qiu Qingqing pinched Su Xin’s face and looked at the sky outside.
“Oh? What about me?”
“I dreamed you became a princess.”
“Ew, then weren’t you my knight?”
“Of course not, I was the evil dragon who kidnapped you.”
“Pfft, then you got killed by my knights?”
“How could that be? I chased away everyone who tried to take you, then happily guarded the castle with just you.”
“So cheesy. Me, a princess? I’m more like a dragon-slaying warrior. Next time dream of me being more fierce, okay?”
“Alright, alright, alright.”
They began another journey together, this time going to Disney.
“Hey, you really want to bring me here?”
“A princess should live in a castle, of course.”
“Qingqing, ‘you need medicine if you’re sick’ [meaning: you’re being ridiculous], you’re more of a princess than me, you look more like one in every way.”
Though Su Xin protested verbally, her body was honest [meaning: actions betrayed true feelings], and she had great fun once inside Disney. After all, they weren’t short on money.
After staying at Disney for about seven days, they went to their next destination, moving unhurriedly and leisurely, since they had no time limit and no one rushing them to complete missions.
This trip they visited two places before returning home, planning to conduct a proper training session.
They couldn’t relax their physical conditioning requirements at any time, including precision in killing.
Weight training, high-altitude jumping, aerial target practice, stealth.
Su Xin and Qiu Qingqing entered a specialized training facility, both changing into combat suits, conducting chase games in the jungle – whoever drew first blood would win.
They played cat and mouse for several days, setting various traps. In such situations, even underhanded tactics were fair game.
They ended in a draw because they fired simultaneously, both “dying.”
“Tch, same result again.”
“If you were a bit lazier, maybe you would’ve lost to me.”
Qiu Qingqing took off her combat suit, and they walked arm in arm to take a shower.
“No way, just wait, I’ll definitely defeat you someday.”
“Alright, I’ll wait for you.”
Actually, you’ve already defeated me, shooting straight through my heart – your sharp gaze was the bullet that pierced me.
A month flew by, and Su Xin’s old friend arrived.
【Host, received a request from a parallel dimension. Accept?】
Accept, accept.
Su Xin entered the system space and saw the waiting client, feeling struck by moe [Japanese-derived term meaning adorably cute].
It was a beautiful young girl, though perhaps “beautiful” wasn’t quite the right word – more like cute, a moe-style girl with two small ears on her head. Ugh… ears.
“Are you the one who can help me?”
“Yes, I am. What’s your wish?”
“Well, actually I’m a spirit, a hamster spirit. I don’t have a name, you can call me Little Hamster, though it feels weird. In our world, spirit have no powers except being able to cultivate human form. We’re just like normal people, just slightly better physically. There are many spirit mixed among humans, with no real differences and no special abilities.”
“What can you do?”
Su Xin found it strange – this task shouldn’t necessarily need someone else to do it. Being a spirit was different from the world where she became a Pear Blossom Spirit. The Pear Blossom Spirit feared being unable to control their emotions, leading to the destruction of their most beloved, but this girl seemed different.
The moe-style girl across from her blushed slightly, appearing somewhat embarrassed.
“I can run on a wheel, roll in wood shavings, act cute, and eat sunflower seeds.”
What use are you?
“We hamsters have very short lifespans. Even though I’ve cultivated into a spirit, I can only live ten times longer than normal. But my tenfold lifespan is insignificant compared to humans. I don’t know how to help her, so I want to ask for your help. She’s my benefactor – her dream is to become a star. She’s very talented, but just can’t become famous. She can only participate in unknown variety shows or play unnamed supporting roles. Yesterday she refused a producer’s casting couch [meaning: sexual harassment], and impulsively injured that producer. Now it seems her agency wants to shelve [meaning: blacklist] her.”
The hamster girl drooped, not knowing what to do.
A hamster’s normal lifespan is 2-2.5 years.
“I don’t know how to help her or comfort her. She’s especially afraid of rats – actually afraid of all rodents, even cute hamsters like me. But she saved me once, even though she was scared. I’ve tried approaching her in human form, but she seems allergic to me – she keeps sneezing whenever I get close. What can I do? I’m feeling desperate too.”
Su Xin: emmmmmm [expression of contemplation]
“So your wish is for me to help her…?”
“I want you to help her reach the highest position in the entertainment industry, to become an undisputed queen.”
Star-making project?
“No problem.”
“Besides this method, I have no other way to help her. It’s just offering my soul, that’s all. If it weren’t for her, I would have been washed into the sewers by flood waters years ago and died. Please do your best.”
“Yes, I won’t let you down.”
Su Xin nodded, looking very professional and competent.
Su Xin opened her eyes and found her vision completely different.
This was in a pitch-black hole without light, but she could still see clearly. This was the home of her cousin, a certain Mr. Rat.
The original host was a small hamster who didn’t know who her parents were. When she gained consciousness, she was already being sold in a cage by merchants. Becoming a spirit in this world was rather mysterious – it didn’t require much difficulty, just a coincidence, because even after becoming a spirit, one could only transform into human form, with no other abilities to cause harm to others.
The hamster became a spirit and secretly escaped from her cage, transforming into a girl, but was unclothed, which scared her into quickly changing back.
Since she escaped the cage, there was no going back, so the hamster spirit prepared to begin wandering.
There were many spirit in this world, mostly animals that had become spirits, but they were strictly disciplined with a specialized governing organization called the Spirit Alliance.
The founder of the Spirit Alliance was a high official whose true form was a fox. After transforming into human form and mixing among humans, he initially planned to eat more chickens, but discovered that with money and power he could eat plenty of chicken every day. Using his wisdom and cunning nature, he gradually climbed to the upper echelons of human society, becoming a government worker. Deeply influenced by socialism, he established the Spirit Alliance, deciding to organize supernatural beings into a structured organization.
When the hamster spirit first became a spirit, she was contacted by the person in charge of her area. It’s said there’s some connection between spirit, though some can hide themselves well. Newborn spirit are at a disadvantage because they don’t know how to conceal their aura.
The hamster had received a legal human ID card, but the Spirit Alliance didn’t provide food or lodging. Spirits had to make their own way, and their success was their own responsibility. The Alliance’s only initial help was providing them with human ID cards.
The hamster spirit couldn’t adapt to human life and chose to continue existing as a rodent. She hid her ID card somewhere and started building nests around the area. But her abilities weren’t as good as rats’, and she was spotted and adopted by a passing little girl. She lived comfortably for a while, but then the little girl started school, and her parents went to work daily. No one remembered to feed her, so the hamster had to run away. Unfortunately, it started pouring rain while she was outside, and she almost got washed into the sewers. Hamsters are much more delicate than rats – they get sick easily and die easily.
The hamster spirit wanted to transform into human form then, but she was too exhausted – too hungry and tired to have energy for transformation.
That’s when a passing young woman saved her – that woman was this world’s mission target, Bai Qianqian.
Bai Qianqian passed by with an umbrella, hesitating whether to save the small creature because she was terrified of rats and all rodents. After much hesitation, she decided to overcome her fear to save that dirty little thing, placing it in a pavilion where it could avoid the rain.
This single action was remembered by the hamster spirit for a very long time.
