Plan A
Interstellar Guardian 6
Living Together
Su Xin followed Renee out of the training room, steadying her breathing.
She put on her jacket, feeling uncomfortably sticky all over.
She followed Renee back to her office and sat properly beside her.
“General, what should I do now? And how do we explain this to the Second Legion?”
Those people probably already knew she was here – Su Xin had good reason to suspect that they had planted people around Renee.
“Whatever, I’ll handle that side.”
“Aren’t you worried they’ll find out? And General, it’s still under your command… Also, about the insect beasts appearing on Planet B-32, should we notify them?”
Su Xin’s tone was somewhat urgent and confused.
“There are plenty of people who want me dead, they’re just minor players. Let’s wait and see. Now be quiet, don’t disturb me.”
Renee replied indifferently. Su Xin swallowed her questions and fell silent.
“If the Second Legion doesn’t even know about the insect beasts appearing there, they might as well pack up and get lost.”
Renee continued coldly.
Su Xin thought about it and realized – those people sent the original host there precisely because they knew Planet 32 would definitely have insect beasts.
Leaning back on the sofa, Su Xin contemplated the situation. Renee’s rise to her current position wasn’t just due to her tactical and leadership abilities, but also public opinion support and, inevitably, power struggles.
The Federation had three Grand Generals in total. The three generals’ positions weren’t absolutely equal, but were determined by their power and military achievements.
The military division was clear: the Empire had four legions in total. The First and Second were controlled by the Grand General, while the Third and Fourth were under the Second and Third Generals.
Of course, this didn’t mean the Third and Fourth Legions’ overall strength was inferior to the First and Second.
As everyone knew, General Renee was an exceptionally gifted Beta, transcending limits, with a mysterious background, a military genius, cold and distant personality, and commanding presence.
Such a person had many brain-dead fans in the interstellar realm, with very positive public opinion – she was many people’s idol.
But because of this, she bore even more burden.
In Su Xin’s view, those people had practically deified Renee, worshipping her as the embodiment of perfection.
Renee said many people wanted her dead.
If someone is determined to send another person to their death, they must have interfered with enormous interests.
Who would see Renee as a nail in their eye? (meaning someone who is considered an obstacle or nuisance)
From the original host’s memories, Su Xin learned that whether in military school or the army, everyone seemed to highly revere General Renee. However, Su Xin felt that all of this seemed like an illusory bubble.
The Second Legion was under Renee’s command, stationed at the frontier. The original host, Ge Wei, was the captain of the Third Squad, with the Chief Commander as her superior, and above them were the Legion Commander and Vice Commander.
Who were those people talking in that room, and why would the Chief Commander protect them to such an extent, showing such attitude towards the biggest BOSS’s life safety?
Su Xin struggled to recall what was in the original host’s mind, but no matter how hard she tried, everything was fragmented – just bits and pieces of tiny voices, without any useful clues.
Su Xin wanted to grab her hair to express her frustration but held back, turning to check the light brain as she opened the light brain, she received a call request from the original host’s roommate.
Su Xin sneered, muttered “idiot”, ignored it, rejected the request, and quickly blocked the person.
That “idiot” comment was meant for both the original host and the roommate.
What kind of brain did they have, still trying to say something after all this?
Tsk, though it wasn’t impossible – it depended on who it was. The original host would probably have accepted, after all, she really believed that roommate was her good comrade and friend.
In the system space, Ge Wei, who was watching 《Detective Conan》, inexplicably sneezed, wrinkled her nose, and continued watching her Conan, guessing who the culprit might be.
Although she couldn’t understand what these people were saying, at least there were subtitles.
Fourteen sighed quietly at Ge Wei, who was completely immersed in Conan and ignoring the daily events on the screen. Fortunately, this child is missing a wire in her brain (meaning not very sharp), otherwise, others might not be so easily placated.
There were many episodes of Conan to watch, and after finishing them, there would be others – no rush, no rush.
Fourteen couldn’t stand seeing others criticize its host – no one could question the host selected by the system designed by the universe’s number one genius programmer.
On Planet B-30.
Tang Mi saw her rejected call request and her expression turned very ugly. She looked at her superior and tried calling again, but this time there was no response at all, indicating she had been blocked.
“Fine, don’t think you’re so special just because you’ve run to the General’s side.”
The Chief Commander sneered, patting Tang Mi’s shoulder.
“She won’t be coming back. The position of Third Squad Captain is now yours.”
“Thank you, sir!”
Tang Mi gave a military salute. Though unsettled by the news that Su Xin was still alive, the joy in her heart overshadowed it – after all, this was her temporary goal, and she had achieved it, hadn’t she?
However, the fact that Ge Wei had gotten close to the General… Tang Mi jealously gripped her knuckles. Someday she could do it too, she could get close to her target as well.
Although she didn’t know why the Chief Commander wanted to deal with Ge Wei, supposedly Ge Wei had offended him, so he wanted to make her miserable and disappear on Planet 32. All she needed to do was sabotage Ge Wei’s light brain, and after succeeding, Ge Wei’s position would be given to her.
Tang Mi’s resolve wavered almost immediately. In truth, she was very irritated by her roommate-turned-superior. That person appeared clever but didn’t understand social graces at all. Tang Mi found her extremely annoying but had to maintain good relations with her.
Because Ge Wei was terrible at hiding her emotions and controlling her mouth, if Tang Mi made her unhappy, she would definitely speak up and make Tang Mi feel uncomfortable.
This might sound straightforward, but Tang Mi didn’t like this kind of straightforwardness at all.
Planet A-16.
Su Xin was unaware of events happening dozens of planets away. Currently, she was absorbed in watching mecha combat videos, mecha practical training, and virtual mecha combat games.
A simple search on the light brain brought up many such videos, with Renee’s floating at the top.
Her techniques and attacks had been analyzed countless times by many people, yet no one could reach her level.
Every one of Renee’s combat videos had been recorded, becoming rare elite teaching materials.
The other two generals were naturally very powerful too, but Renee’s position at the top proved her capability.
Su Xin thought there were other factors too – for instance, while the other two generals were imposing figures, they were middle-aged men, weren’t they?
Their real age was much older than they appeared. Undeniably, their minds were still sharp, but they were gradually aging. Renee’s popularity exceeded theirs, partly due to her face as beautiful as peach blossoms. The best era of those two generals was slowly passing.
Sometimes time easily eliminates and forgets a person. Humans tend to forget the past easily – when new glory appears, it washes away the old shadows until they fade.
No one can maintain their glory forever. Even the greatest heroes will be gradually buried by time.
Su Xin was curious about Renee’s actual age. Military achievements weren’t easy to earn, yet Renee still appeared very young, like a blooming rose. However, she didn’t give off a passionate feeling; rather, it seemed as if her petals’ brilliant red was dyed with blood.
Su Xin first set aside the videos and eagerly went to look up information.
The original host’s memories contained many of Renee’s exploits – in fact, all military academy students should know about those famous battles.
After all, wars were constantly being fought, and military academy textbooks were always being updated.
Renee’s physical data was fully displayed – height 187 cm (6’1″), wow, so tall. Su Xin then remembered her current body was about 181 cm (5’9″), and felt more at ease.
Actually, everyone was tall, so Su Xin didn’t feel like a giant. She thought if she ever met an Omega, she’d really notice her height, since Omegas were famously petite.
All measurements were listed, including hair length, but age remained unknown.
No one knew where this general came from or how old she was – mysteriously incredible. But one thing was certain: she had been fighting on battlefields for twenty-five years.
Wow, cool.
Su Xin cupped her chin while watching Renee work. The serious general’s expression was stern, appearing almost inhumanly cold. Renee rotated the electronic pen in her hand, rapidly reviewing military affairs.
Renee had always been frighteningly aware of her surroundings, so she noticed the moment Su Xin looked at her.
However, Renee didn’t raise her head or even give Su Xin a sideways glance, continuing to handle her work.
Su Xin thought to herself that she was just a hardworking bodyguard – staring at Renee’s face wouldn’t make a flower bloom (“看也看不出來一朵花” – meaning no matter how hard you look, nothing will change).
More than Renee’s face, she admired her tactics and skills.
Really wanted to fight again – it was exhilarating.
Though Su Xin noticed that since she arrived, she couldn’t avoid fighting and killing – so violent.
【Does the host not like it? I’ll be more mindful next time.】
System missions were shared. How to put it – with so many dimensions having so many desperate, obsessed, and peculiar people, there were more than enough missions to handle.
But sometimes many would be filtered out. The system wouldn’t be so hungry it won’t choose what to eat (meaning not being picky). Although the creator needed soul power for support, it didn’t mean they would accept just any cats and dogs (meaning random nobodies).
Actually, Fourteen had told Su Xin a lie before. When Su Xin asked about their standards for selecting hosts, Fourteen said it was based on the level of obsession and being of legal age.
But the truth wasn’t like that, and it wasn’t complicated either.
The system would receive many wish requests that reached the target – that target being the degree of soul compatibility with the creator.
From these compatible soul wishes, the system would select suitable ones. They would first listen to the wishes, then analyze whether they suited their hosts. If unsuitable, they would abandon them.
Some suitable candidates would retreat after hearing about sacrificing their souls, and after retreating, the system would delete that memory segment.
Fourteen had been choosing missions convenient for fighting for Su Xin, since she seemed to be good at that sort of thing.
No, no, no, it’s not that I dislike fighting. If something can be solved with force, why bother using your brain, right? Though occasionally changing things up would be fine too.
Su Xin mentally smacked her lips, thinking it might be interesting to play the role of a weak and sickly beauty, but then decided against it – how frustrating it would be not being able to fight.
Su Xin immersed herself back in the videos, watching carefully.
On the light brain, someone had analyzed each of Renee’s movements, explaining why she moved in certain directions and attacked in specific ways.
Su Xin was absorbed in watching when Renee raised her head. They were facing the same direction, allowing Renee to see what Su Xin was watching from the side.
“I just did that instinctively, without thinking that much about it.”
Su Xin was startled for a moment, realizing Renee was talking to her, and nodded.
The analysis was quite authoritative, with many people replying in agreement, admiring the analysis.
Su Xin’s mouth twitched. Combat could truly become instinctive behavior – sometimes you don’t need to think too much to know your next move.
Someone knocked on the door. Renee said “enter,” and the door opened automatically.
The person who came to report saw Su Xin in the room, their expression changing for just an instant.
But even in that instant, Su Xin understood the meaning clearly. It was obvious: “Wow, that big fool is still sitting here, actually sharing space with General Renee in her office – absolutely jealous and envious!”
If Su Xin knew what Ge Wei was thinking in the system space, she would definitely marvel at their mysterious synchronization.
“Speak.”
Renee rotated her electronic pen and raised her eyes slightly, signaling the subordinate to report.
“General, please look at these…”
The person handed over paper materials for Renee to review.
Despite so many years passing, paper hadn’t been eliminated.
Because some things were about sentiment, and some things were about evidence.
Electronic formats were easily forged, while special paper versions couldn’t be.
Everything was progressing, including paper.
Military-grade paper was special – water-resistant, dirt-resistant, fire-resistant, and tear-proof – quite miraculous indeed.
Su Xin thought if they made clothes from this paper, it would be like something straight out of a wuxia novel in past eras.
Though it wasn’t exactly bulletproof – far from it – it was still convenient for making things, even if disposing of evidence wasn’t so easy.
Su Xin consciously avoided looking that way, staring at the carpet beneath her feet, appearing very well-behaved.
The subordinate barely spoke while handing over the materials, and Su Xin couldn’t hear anything. She didn’t want to look up at Renee either, knowing she’d definitely be noticed, so Su Xin continued watching her videos, wanting to improve her abilities and techniques.
After the subordinate finished their business, they immediately left, and the door automatically closed.
Voice-controlled unlocking – high tech was indeed different.
When Renee was about to finish work, Su Xin inquired about something.
“Ma’am, do you have mecha repair specialists here?”
Of course they did – such a large place being the First Army’s station, how could they not have mecha repair specialists?
“Is it serious?”
“Not too bad, just damage from the space jump turbulence that hasn’t healed, plus that hit you gave me from behind earlier wasn’t light either.”
Su Xin spoke honestly.
“Come back with me, I’ll fix it for you, and make some improvements too.”
Renee said without hesitation.
“What? You’ll repair it personally?”
This was an unexpected surprise – Su Xin hadn’t planned for this.
Ge Wei, watching Detective Conan in the system space, also witnessed this scene and exclaimed:
“Wow, General Renee is so nice!”
Fourteen calmly ignored this, continuing to select the next mission world.
Honestly, after being a system for so many years, it could tell at a glance this person would be difficult to deal with.
Su Xin happily followed Renee out of the military department, boarding Renee’s spaceship.
Renee’s home wasn’t very large, but it was spacious – spacious in every sense of the word.
Su Xin was a bit dazed looking at the well-decorated but somewhat empty house.
The living room was large and empty – how empty? The entire living room had only one sofa.
And the sofa was placed in an odd direction, as if it was frequently moved around.
The kitchen also occupied a large area but looked rarely used. From the corner, a household robot quickly came over to welcome its master home.
The robot wasn’t the popular humanoid type, seeming to maintain its initial appearance settings.
Round and simple-looking, it had a cheerful child-like voice.
The robot performed a full-body scan of Su Xin, registering her information.
“Level two.”
Renee commanded the robot.
“Level two visitor, settings confirmed.”
The robot said cheerfully.
“That’s your room, bathroom’s at the end, training area is underground. Don’t disturb me unless necessary.”
“I demand absolute silence – that’s the most basic rule for staying by my side.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
Su Xin responded with perfect attitude. No problem, not talking was fine – she could still communicate directly with Fourteen, so she wouldn’t be bored.
“Go take a shower first. Leave the mecha to me – I’ll repair and improve it. If you need food, ask Little One.”
The robot’s name was Little One, casually given.
“Alright.”
Su Xin took off the pendant from her neck and gave it to Renee, watching as Renee issued a command at some floor tile, causing a gap to suddenly appear in the ground with stairs extending down.
“Don’t wander around unnecessarily – you might get lost here.”
Renee cautioned as the floor sealed seamlessly, disappearing without a trace.
Su Xin thought, there’s even operations like this?
She wanted to get lost, but there weren’t even paths to get lost on – the floor tiles looked normal, who knew how it worked.
Su Xin scratched her hair, thinking of an important problem: showering, but she had no clothes! Should she run around naked? But running around naked without a “big stick” would be scandalous, though running around with one would be even more inappropriate.
The robot seemed to sense that the house guest was experiencing some difficulty and came forward to inquire.
“Could I have a set of clothes?”
The robot seemed to pause for a moment, walked to a room, and brought out an outfit.
“After scanning, this is the only suitable outfit currently available for the guest.”
Little One held out the clothes with its mechanical hands, presenting them to Su Xin.
“What kind of clothes are these?”
Su Xin couldn’t help but cough when she saw the style.
“These were gifts the master received two years ago, never worn. The style might be outdated – please excuse this.”
Little One appeared very intelligent, speaking and expressing emotions just like a human.
Su Xin took the clothes and went to the bathroom.
No choice – she couldn’t go without clothes, but these clothes were really in bad taste, looking like a prank.
After showering, with nothing for top or bottom, Su Xin could only awkwardly put it on directly.
The outfit wasn’t revealing, but looking at herself in the mirror, Su Xin felt like a wrapped present waiting to be opened – what was with the red ribbons and bows in front and back? Super embarrassing!
Plus, the clothes were made of some strange material – Su Xin couldn’t even tear off that eye-searing bow, so she had to leave it.
Though not revealing, it didn’t mean it covered much – the hem ended just below the upper thighs, with long red silk ribbons hanging down both sides, clearly meant to be wrapped decoratively around the legs. Su Xin wouldn’t put those things on her legs, so she just let them hang.
After Little One entered the bathroom and put the dirty clothes in the washing machine, having completed all this, it walked toward the person sprawled shapelessly on the sofa and asked a question.
Since Renee wasn’t around, Su Xin was completely letting loose, lounging with legs crossed, looking quite comfortable.
“Would the guest like to eat?”
“What do you have?”
The first meal since arriving in this interstellar world, at the General’s home – there was a bit of anticipation. In the original host’s memories, it was nothing but nutrient solutions, which Su Xin found quite unappetizing just looking at them.
Despite technological advancement, to save time and resources, and due to the gradual decrease in food ingredients, these nutrient solutions were created.
“Would the guest like strawberry flavor, watermelon flavor, or mango flavor?”
“Watermelon, then.”
Could it be juice?
“Very well.”
Little One went into the kitchen, and Su Xin was a bit worried that Little One’s small frame wouldn’t be able to reach the kitchen counter.
To Su Xin’s anticipation, Little One brought out a cup – pink and pleasing to the eye, but it couldn’t hide the fact that it was still a nutrient solution.
The boss’s level was different indeed – even the nutrient solutions were more premium.
Su Xin finished drinking the nutrient solution. Though it was supposed to be watermelon-flavored, it barely tasted like it – just a hint, but still much better than what the original host usually drank.
The usual nutrient solutions, that taste, tsk.
Su Xin missed the crab-insects from Planet B-32; those were really delicious.
Su Xin put the cup back and continued sprawling on the sofa watching videos, fearless about being idle.
Having already been through the ordeal of losing the important bits, what was there left to fear?
The washing machine washed clothes quickly, and Little One immediately dried them – very efficient.
Su Xin quickly took off those cursed clothes, and just as they were about to change, a hole suddenly appeared in the floor. Renee stepped up through it, holding Su Xin’s mecha in hand.
Su Xin paused while putting on underwear – this happened so fast.
Renee’s eyes swept over the fully exposed body before her, raising an eyebrow.
The situation was a bit awkward.
