Ex-Girlfriend – Chapter 99

B U G Arc

Exam God 06

The middle-aged man was left dazed after being kicked, and he became somewhat irritated once he regained his composure.

Despite being a towering six-footer, he had been brought to his knees by a woman’s kick.

He cursed with a few vulgar words and rose from the ground.

“Watch your mouth, or I wouldn’t mind eliminating you ahead of schedule.”

Xin Lan’s gaze held a touch of coldness. She had encountered plenty of people who looked down on others, and to her, they were no different from fools. She wasn’t exactly angry; she just thought these idiots should keep their mouths shut.

“Hah, you’ve got quite the attitude. You only managed to catch me off guard with that kick earlier.”

The middle-aged man retorted, his irritation growing. He had already entered this damn test without knowing why and was filled with frustration, wondering where he could vent it.

Taking another look at these two women, he noticed they were quite attractive, even more so than the television stars he had seen. He figured he should show them what it meant to be superior, and if he won, he could even gain some advantages.

When Wan Yan saw the look in his eyes, she furrowed her brow and took a step forward but was stopped by Xin Lan.

“Stay aside and watch. Do you doubt my abilities?”

Xin Lan hinted at something, knowing they had experienced the first world together. Wan Yan must be aware of her capabilities, so there was no need to worry about her.

Wan Yan nodded and stood back, ready to watch the little tiger’s performance.

“Are you ready this time?”

“What?”

The middle-aged man was taken aback, and then he was kicked in the calf.

His calf tingled, his knees weakened, and before the middle-aged man could react, he was thrown to the ground with an over-the-shoulder throw.

Intense pain radiated from his back, his brow furrowing as he cried out in agony.

Xin Lan pressed her foot against his chest, and the middle-aged man struggled to get up, attempting to grab Xin Lan’s leg. Xin Lan agilely evaded his grasp. Just as the middle-aged man staggered to his feet, she delivered a powerful kick to his abdomen.

Xin Lan put all her strength into that kick, sending the man flying and causing him to spit out bile.

Onlookers stood in stunned silence, too afraid to make a sound.

Xin Lan’s demeanor while fighting resembled that of a Yama, and since the man being beaten was clearly in the wrong, no one dared to intervene.

Meanwhile, Wan Yan stood there, admiring Xin Lan’s fluid combination of moves, thinking her little tiger looked quite impressive.

The middle-aged man was still writhing in pain on the ground, unable to get up. Xin Lan paid him no mind and instead cast a victorious glance towards Wan Yan, who responded with a smile.

Xin Lan glanced at the mural on the wall, but Wan Yan gestured that she had finished looking at it.

“Is this the origin of this village?”

Xin Lan inquired.

“Yes.”

Wan Yan nodded.

“This mural depicts the story. From the very beginning, the villagers here suffered from the infestation of Gu, causing immense fear and suffering,” Wan Yan pointed to the first painting. “They tried various methods like pouring water and setting fires, but nothing worked.”

“Later, there was a woman who managed to cultivate a kind of Gu manipulation that could command the Gu, preventing them from threatening the villagers.”

“The people in the village revered this woman, honoring her as the Gu Goddess. The Gu she cultivated gave birth to the ‘Gu King.'”

“Later on, every person in the village learned how to raise Gu, command the Gu, but the only ones who could make the Gu submit were the Gu King and the Gu Goddess. So, the Gu Goddess cultivated another Gu King and implanted it in her own child’s body, and that child became the Guzi.”

“When the Guzi reached a certain age, during a ritual, they implanted the original Gu King back into the Guzi’s body.”

Wan Yan pointed at the mural, where a person lay on a platform, others holding a Gu nearby, and people kneeling below.

“This way, the Guzi became the new Gu God, protecting the village.”

“The name of the Gu King is White Star Gu.”

“How did you know the Gu King’s name?”

It was Huo Xu who asked.

He looked at Wan Yan inquisitively, his eyes filled with curiosity.

“It’s written here.”

Wan Yan pointed to the wall, where some strange symbols were carved, praising the White Star Gu.

“You can read it?”

Wan Yan raised an eyebrow, looking completely confident.

As one of the most exceptional systems, she had stored many peculiar scripts in her mind, and reading such texts posed no obstacle for her.

“The ritual starts tomorrow, which means that before the ritual, the person controlling the paper figurine will likely make another move. We must stick close to Xiao An and ideally never leave her side.”

Xin Lan said as she walked away.

Others followed suit, moving along with an air of deference.

They clung to their determination, embracing it tightly, believing that this approach would surely lead to success.

Xin Lan, however, didn’t backtrack but instead exited through the well, walking toward the direction the village head had recently left.

At the exit, there were no lights, only the faint, eerie moonlight illuminating the land.

From this vantage point, they could see uneven mounds of graves scattered about.

Under the moonlight, that patch of darkness became even more pronounced, and as the wind rustled through the branches, it produced a soft, sibilant sound.

One of the people emerging from the tunnel let out a startled cry, adding an extra layer of eeriness to the night.

“Why the screaming? You scared the life out of me.”

Someone grumbled, but upon seeing Xin Lan standing ahead, they fell silent.

Suddenly, from the tunnel they had just exited, a multitude of luminescent insects burst forth. In mid-air, they gathered into a small cluster and flew in a particular direction.

Wan Yan gently took Xin Lan’s hand and walked in the direction the insects had flown.

Xin Lan didn’t resist; back when she didn’t know Wan Yan’s true identity, back when Wan Yan had no memory, Wan Yan often held her hand.

It had seemingly become a natural, effortless gesture now.

Despite the road being shrouded in an eerie atmosphere, with nearby graves and strange insects in the sky, Wan Yan managed to create a sense of warmth.

The little tiger didn’t object to her holding her hand!

No objections!

Hand in hand today, an embrace tomorrow, a kiss the day after—wouldn’t that be delightful?

Wan Yan indulged in whimsical thoughts, her expression dead serious.

Though she knew these were temporary goals for now, just thinking about them brought her joy.

After walking for a while, they arrived at a house.

This house was noticeably better-looking than the others in the village, with lights shining from within.

Xin Lan and the others entered and found Xiao An sitting in a chair.

He appeared somewhat drowsy, his lips looking pale in the candlelight.

The village head was seated nearby, and upon seeing Xin Lan and the others, he promptly stood up.

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

His words were nothing more than pleas for them to take good care of Xiao An.

“Don’t worry, we will do our utmost.”

Spoke Yuanyuan. Seeing that Xin Lan didn’t seem inclined to respond, he quickly took on the role of spokesperson.

Xiao An went to rest in his room. When Xin Lan entered the room, she once again detected that peculiar scent.

It was likely that there were many insects in this room.

Xiao An lay down on the bed, while the others either stood or sat, crowding the room to its limits.

A breeze stirred, causing the candlelight to flicker.

Suddenly, from outside, there came a hauntingly beautiful song, carrying a sense of melancholy.

“Oh, traveler from afar, it matters not whence you’ve come. Stay upon our soil. I gaze upon the White Star Gu and ask, ‘When will you bloom, Ah-ya?'”
