B U G Arc
Exam God 14
When Xin Lan found herself once again in the white lounge, she glanced around but didn’t spot Wan Yan.
Her brow furrowed slightly, and in the next moment, she felt someone approaching, grasping her hand.
Sensing the familiar presence, Xin Lan relaxed.
“I thought we might never meet again.”
Wan Yan murmured, resting her head on Xin Lan’s shoulder.
Her face carried a light and cheerful smile, in an incredibly good mood.
Xin Lan responded gently and took a seat.
“As soon as I appeared there, I recognized it wasn’t you.”
“So impressive?”
Xin Lan’s tone rose slightly, even though her expression remained unchanged, a small smile curled up in her heart.
“Of course, because you’re unique in my heart.”
【Ah.】
【Ah ah ah.】
【Ah ah ah ah ah.】
Zero Nine couldn’t help but sigh in a triple sequence.
“Too cheesy, too greasy, too old-fashioned!”
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah!
Xin Lan was amused by Wan Yan and couldn’t help but chuckle.
The people in the lounge all looked at the two beautiful girls sitting there with strange expressions, as if saying, “Are you two devils?”
Oh my goodness, how can they laugh in this situation?
Just moments ago, they had escaped from the siege of ghosts in the fourth examination room, and every one of them looked like they had narrowly escaped death. Yet these two were still laughing.
Wan Yan grinned madly, looking absolutely delighted.
Orange is right, she can’t hold back too much; love should be expressed loudly! No host would like a seemingly emotionless and cold system!
Yeah! She’s learning!
After ten minutes of break time, that distinctive voice resonated in everyone’s mind once again.
“The fifth round of the examination is about to begin. Welcome to the fifth examination room. Please, all candidates, prepare yourselves.”
“There are a total of eight candidates for this round, and the time allotted is fifteen days.”
“Please, candidates, feel free to showcase your abilities.”
“The examination begins!”
Xin Lan opened her eyes, and in front of her was a transparent barrier.
The room was not spacious, resembling a prison. Two surveillance cameras hung from the ceiling. The furnishings in the room were simple, with monotone white colors.
Xin Lan looked at the card in her hand and raised an eyebrow.
[You are Experiment A1403, in the midst of a biochemical crisis outbreak, with the virus spreading. Your mission is to escort Dr. Canabo’s research specimen to the Hope Base in the north. The successful delivery of the research specimen to the base marks the completion of the examination.
Note: Not turning into a zombie is a privilege for examiners, but be cautious not to get eaten.]
I won’t turn into a zombie?
Xin Lan turned her neck slightly, feeling somewhat excited.
(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)
During her time as a villain, she had been to such dimensions before.
In apocalyptic crises, she usually played the role of a madman intent on destroying the world. She had been the source of a virus and even a zombie king, so she had a certain familiarity with such scenarios.
Xin Lan looked at the broken barrier in front of her, where something had breached its confines.
This layer of barrier seemed to have lost its protective energy, shattering with a single blow from Xin Lan.
“Host, the commander says she’s currently in the central control room and has already seen you on the surveillance. Let me guide you.”
Xin Lan stepped out from the barrier and looked at the surveillance.
Wan Yan’s gaze met hers through the screen. Despite knowing that Xin Lan couldn’t see, she still wore a smile.
“Professor, A14003 has also come out. Is she going to deal with those monsters?”
The assistant looked helplessly at the beautiful woman in a white lab coat, his voice trembling.
The laboratory had completely gone out of control, with many researchers infected. The central computer, for some unknown reason, had unlocked the energy barrier, allowing those specimens to escape as well.
For now, the control room was still relatively safe, but it was uncertain if it would remain so.
“Where is Dr. Canabo?”
Wan Yan didn’t answer his question but asked another one, putting her hand in her pocket and gazing at the NPC in front of her.
“I’m not sure; the last time I saw him, he was in Zone S.”
Wan Yan nodded, her hand quickly flickering across the touchscreen.
“Professor, you don’t have the authority to access Zone S surveillance. Gaia wouldn’t allow it.”
The assistant, seeing Wan Yan’s actions, became somewhat anxious.
Insufficient permissions, unable to access!
The words kept flashing on the touchscreen, but Wan Yan seemed oblivious, her fingers sliding continuously across the screen, modifying the program.
Insufficient permissions, unable to access!
Unable to access!
“Insufficient permissions, unable to access” nearly covered the entire screen, exuding an overwhelming sense of oppression.
The assistant’s forehead was beaded with cold sweat, and he looked at Wan Yan in a state of helplessness, his heart racing with anxiety.
Suddenly, the full-screen red turned into green, and the assistant widened his eyes.
“Professor, did you modify the permissions?!”
Wan Yan remained expressionless. After all, this was just a lower-level computer program in a sub-world. If she couldn’t even crack this, how could she be a system commander? She might as well retire and start over.
“Gaia, retain surveillance over Zone A3, and cover the rest with Zone S.”
Gaia executed the command, and the monitoring screens began to change.
Wan Yan’s fingers glided across the screen, searching for traces of Dr. Canabo.
Her fingers stopped at a particular spot, continuously zooming in.
“It’s Dr. Canabo! From the looks of it, he seems to be in the central area.”
Wan Yan nodded and noticed the people around Dr. Canabo.
“Lock onto facial features, retrieve the data.”
Wan Yan pointed to the person next to Dr. Canabo, and Gaia immediately locked on, retrieving the person’s data.
Wan Yan gazed at the face on the screen, swiping the screen to shift her focus to Xin Lan’s side.
Xin Lan walked in the white corridor, barefoot, making no noise at all.
This level was eerily silent, incredibly quiet, with no sound whatsoever. She could only hear the faint sound of her own breathing.
(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)
This level appeared to have about four laboratories of varying sizes, each door damaged.
The signs of destruction varied in size, and even the large door at the forefront was warped and deformed.
Xin Lan walked out, with an elevator on one side and a staircase on the other.
The elevator indicated the first floor, but Xin Lan wasn’t foolish enough to take it. She had no desire to encounter a bunch of zombies waiting for her on the way up.
【Host, take the stairs, go up two floors. The commander says there’s something in the elevator, but the surveillance facilities in the hallway have been destroyed, so we can’t see the situation in the stairwell. Be cautious, she’s waiting for you there.】
Zero Nine’s voice module worked diligently.
Xin Lan turned into the stairwell, and the lights in the stairwell were on. A quick glance revealed that there seemed to be nothing there.
She moved quietly along the wall, going up the stairs. After ascending one floor, she suddenly heard the sound of chewing.
The sound was crystal clear, as if it were right next to her ear. Xin Lan looked upstairs, but she didn’t hear anything at all.
Her hearing had indeed been enhanced to its maximum, but it shouldn’t be this effective. It was probably something inherent to this experiment’s body.
As she ascended the next half-flight of stairs, she spotted the thing.
It was a researcher, dressed in work attire, hunched over a corpse on the ground, gnawing away.
She caught the scent of a living person, and her head shot up, abandoning the meat in her hand. She swayed to her feet, her movements slow, dragging her body along. Her decaying face was partially exposed, making her look extremely gruesome.
Someone who hadn’t witnessed this scene before would probably be disgusted, but Xin Lan was completely immune to such things. She approached, efficiently snapping the zombie’s neck.
She continued up the stairs, pushed open the door on the floor where she had agreed to meet Wan Yan.
The door had only a small gap, and after Xin Lan made a sound, the zombie that had initially lunged at Wan Yan turned its head toward the source of the noise.
Wan Yan exited the central control room’s door, and the NPC was practically clinging to her legs, almost in tears. he felt incredibly real.
However, when the NPC saw the multitude of zombies outside, he decided not to follow, which Wan Yan didn’t mind. She wielded her weapon and began attacking the zombies outside.
There were many zombies in this hallway, and almost all the zombies from the previous two floors had been attracted here. Wan Yan held an energy gun and aimed for headshots on the zombies.
The zombies rushed toward Xin Lan, but she had no weapons in her hands, effortlessly crushing the ones that pounced on her.
The process was somewhat nauseating, and the sensation wasn’t great either.
Wan Yan tossed a gun over to Xin Lan, who caught it in mid-air using a wall for leverage. She then turned and proceeded to eliminate the zombies.
It wasn’t until all the zombies on this floor lay lifeless and silent that the two of them gathered together.
Xin Lan had intended to inquire about Wan Yan’s identity badge, but Wan Yan spoke first.
“I’ll go find you a pair of shoes to wear first.”
Wan Yan looked at Xin Lan’s bare feet and led her back to the central control room.
“A1403?!”
The assistant inside the room, upon seeing Xin Lan, instinctively moved back a bit.
“There should be spare clothes here.”
Wan Yan opened the door to the rest area and found a set of clothes and shoes in the cabinet, prompting Xin Lan to change into them.
When Xin Lan emerged, Wan Yan was busy examining the surveillance screens.
“This is the surveillance for Zone S. Dr. Canabo is right there, but there’s also someone familiar beside him.”
Wan Yan retrieved the surveillance footage for Xin Lan to see.
Xin Lan hadn’t expected to encounter a former classmate here. It was the same guy she had met in the second examination room, the one who introduced himself as “Yuanyuan.”
“To get to Zone S from here, you’ll have to pass through here, here, and here. There are two locations with denser zombie populations, and one area with very few.”
Wan Yan pointed to the routes on the surveillance and indicated three paths for Xin Lan.
Regardless of which player was here, they would certainly choose the route with fewer zombies. However, Wan Yan still outlined all the routes.
(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)
“Once you reach this point and pass through a door, you’ll be in Zone S. He’s in the central area of Zone S, so it shouldn’t be hard to find.”
“Let’s go then. Have you seen anyone else?”
Wan Yan shook her head, indicating that she hadn’t seen anyone else.
There are eight participants in this exam, including the two of them and Yuanyuan, making it three. That means there are five more.
Wan Yan and Xin Lan walked out and followed the planned route.
They chose the path with fewer zombies, and indeed, there were only a few sporadic zombies wandering on that route. Before the zombies could react, Xin Lan and Wan Yan had already rendered them motionless.
“Is your mission to escort Dr. Canabo’s research findings?”
“Yes, it seems like his research findings might be an antidote, but it might not have been fully developed yet.”
Wan Yan nodded. The text on this card always seemed to reveal some information. It either indicated research findings or that the serum was still under development.
“Escort to the Northern Hope Base?”
Upon hearing this, Wan Yan paused, her expression taking on an unusual twist.
“You aren’t?”
Seeing her peculiar expression, Xin Lan also came to a halt.
“No, mine says ‘deliver to the White Deer Base in the north.'”
