    Seduction Perfume

After the banquet ended, Song Qingpei left the Ming Family Ancestral Home alone.

It was already dark when she returned to Shanshui Manor. Her mind was heavy with thoughts, and she wandered aimlessly through the vast estate, feeling more lost with every step, unsure of what to do next.

Doctor Li was right. Nothing here ever truly belonged to her. Forcing herself to fit in was only counterproductive; it didn’t give her a sense of belonging, but instead made her feel even more isolated.

In such a short time, she had become someone she barely recognized: insecure, sensitive, overly cautious, and melancholic.

Was this still her? This wasn’t how she was supposed to be.

Even when she was an orphan, a wanderer since childhood, she had persevered with tenacity and resilience.

Back then, after saving Ming Yu, she had resolutely learned a new skill from scratch, worked hard to earn money, and adapted to a new environment, all to provide a stable life for Ming Yu and their future child. She wasn’t incompetent. She had once given everything for the person she cared about, striving to become a better version of herself.

    It was just…

Ming Yu’s starting point was simply too high, so high that she could never reach it, no matter how hard she tried.

But Ming Yu’s appearance in her life had been an accident from the start. She should have a life of her own, not be reduced to a puppet controlled by Ming Yu. In that moment, Song Qingpei decided to set aside the accident that was Ming Yu and begin to seriously plan her own life.

First, she should find a job. If she was busy, she wouldn’t have time for these idle, painful thoughts.

Once the idea took root, Song Qingpei’s mind suddenly cleared.

That was right. She had to break free from Ming Yu’s control, or at least stop depending on her to live. Besides, Song Song would be starting school soon, and facing Ming Yu alone then would be even more uncomfortable.

Her mind made up, Song Qingpei turned and headed back, preparing to have a calm and rational discussion with Ming Yu.

She returned to the Great Hall and waited for a while before Ming Yu finally came back, looking exhausted, with a sleeping Song Song in her arms.

Song Qingpei hurried forward to take her. “Let me.”

Ming Yu passed the child to her, her brow tightly furrowed. Without a word, she turned and started up the stairs toward her bedroom.

After a moment’s hesitation, Song Qingpei called out to her. “Ming Yu, I need to talk to you about something.”

Ming Yu paused and turned around, her gaze cold and distant. “What is it?”

“I’ll put Song Song to bed first. We can talk after.”

She finished, looking at Ming Yu with a questioning gaze.

Ming Yu gave her an inscrutable look, assuming Song Qingpei had finally lost her nerve and was coming to make amends. The corner of her lip curled in a barely perceptible smirk. “Fine. I’m going to my bedroom to take a shower. Come find me in a bit.”

    That tone…

It was exactly like when Ming Yu used to order her around for soothing, laced with a faint, ambiguous intimacy.

Song Qingpei frowned inwardly. Ming Yu’s heat period should have been over for days. Was she just overthinking things?

She carried Song Song back to her room and gently laid her down.

Remembering that Ming Yu had mentioned a shower, she deliberately waited an extra twenty minutes before knocking on her door.

Through the door came Ming Yu’s slightly hoarse, languid voice. “Come in.”

Pushing the door open, she found Ming Yu wearing only a light, thin silk nightgown that exposed a long, fair thigh. She was standing with her back to the door, facing the floor-to-ceiling window.

Hearing the sound, she turned. The deep V-neck revealed a large expanse of alluring, snow-white skin. Her still-damp curls were scattered languidly across her chest, vaguely concealing the rising and falling valley between her breasts. Under the light, her skin was whiter than snow, her features stunning. Her long, deep-set eyes and thick, slender lashes cast a soft shadow.

Fortunately or unfortunately, faced with such a tempting sight, Song Qingpei was able to remain as calm as still water as she walked toward Ming Yu.

“What is it?” Ming Yu raised an eyebrow at her.

Song Qingpei took a deep breath and said in a low voice, “Song Song will be starting school soon. I was thinking of getting a job. Would that be okay?”

“Song Qingpei, did you really come here just to talk about this?” Ming Yu asked with a smile.

Her words were strange. Song Qingpei froze. “What do you mean by that?”

“What do I mean? Don’t you know perfectly well?”

Ming Yu scoffed and shrugged off her robe, revealing the sensual form beneath her nightgown.

Her proportions were perfect, her figure curvaceous in all the right places. The arc of her chest was beautiful, her waist slender and soft, and her long legs were straight and perfectly shaped, enough to rival a runway model’s.

Song Qingpei was caught completely off guard by Ming Yu’s directness.

She quickly took a step back, a sense of helpless anger rising in her. “I… I’m trying to have a serious conversation with you.”

Ming Yu’s smile was mocking. She slowly approached Song Qingpei and reached out to hook her chin, but Song Qingpei turned her head, dodging the touch.

Rejected again, Ming Yu’s expression changed. A cold smile touched her lips. “Song Qingpei, that’s enough. Don’t push your luck.”

Before Song Qingpei could figure out Ming Yu’s bizarre attitude, Ming Yu’s fingers once again clamped firmly around her chin. Forced to tilt her neck back and meet Ming Yu’s gaze, her initial intention to talk things out calmly was incinerated by this dismissive treatment.

Song Qingpei stared daggers at Ming Yu and growled through clenched teeth, “Ming Yu, I am not a plaything for you to toy with!”

At her words, Ming Yu’s face darkened.

She could already feel the faint scent of pheromones leaking into the air, yet this woman was still putting on airs, acting as if she would rather die than submit. What a joke.

She couldn’t help but mock, “Song Qingpei, aren’t you ridiculous? Who are you putting on this act for, playing hard to get?”

This vile attitude was the last straw. Song Qingpei wrenched herself free from Ming Yu’s grasp and turned to leave.

Feeling like she’d been played, Ming Yu grabbed her arm and yanked her back. In the struggle—

    CRASH!

The bottle of perfume from Li Man was flung from Song Qingpei’s pocket, hit the floor, and shattered into pieces.

Both women froze. In an instant, a rich fragrance filled the entire room.

The moment Song Qingpei smelled it, she felt her body begin to heat up. Recalling what Li Man had said about the perfume’s effects, she knew this was bad.

Ming Yu was far more sensitive. The Seduction Perfume, so similar to an Alpha’s pheromones, crashed through her senses, instantly igniting the desires of her heat period. Her body went limp, her face flushed, and she could barely stand.

And at that moment, Ming Yu’s sharp eyes caught Song Qingpei’s guilty glance.

This perfume was a Seduction Perfume!

In an instant, a colossal wave of fury engulfed Ming Yu.

This hypocritical woman, spouting self-righteous words while resorting to such despicable tricks behind her back. No wonder her pheromones had started acting up the moment she saw Song Qingpei today. Her heat period, which should have been over, was stirring again.

She must have sprayed the perfume earlier, then come here to put on this little show, all to make Ming Yu beg her for pleasure.

“Song Qingpei, you have some nerve! How dare you use Seduction Perfume on me!”

Furious and flustered, Ming Yu slapped Song Qingpei across the face.

    SLAP—

Song Qingpei didn’t manage to dodge. The sharp sound echoed through the room.

At that, it was Ming Yu who looked stunned, as if she couldn’t believe Song Qingpei would just stand there and take the blow.

Song Qingpei rubbed her reddening cheek with the back of her hand and explained tonelessly, “It was a gift from a friend. I forgot to put it away. I didn’t bring it in here on purpose.”

Ming Yu let out a derisive laugh. “Such a pathetic excuse. You think I’ll believe that?”

“I can’t do anything if you don’t believe me.”

Song Qingpei said no more and turned to walk out.

Ming Yu reached for her again, but stimulated by the pheromones, she was weak and had no strength at all. Song Qingpei easily broke free.

The two of them stood there, facing off.

Thoroughly enraged, Ming Yu’s eyes glinted with a dangerous light. She spat out the most hurtful words she could think of.

“Song Qingpei, what do you think you are?”

“Don’t think I don’t know. A lowly, low-grade A like you would do anything to climb the social ladder.”

“I’m warning you, get rid of those thoughts you shouldn’t be having. If I catch you pulling these kinds of tricks again, I won’t let you off.”

“And don’t even think about using our daughter to achieve your goals, or I’ll make sure you never see Song Song again.”

“The most humiliating thing in my life was being marked by a despicable and shameless low-grade A like you. The possibility of marrying you is even more so. Don’t you dare harbor any delusions!”

Every sentence was like a knife twisting in Song Qingpei’s heart, the pain so sharp it left her breathless.

Song Qingpei’s fists clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms as she fought to control her crumbling emotions.

She lifted her head and looked at Ming Yu coldly. “I must have been blind to save you back then. It’s the biggest regret of my life. You’re not worthy of it!”

“Say that again!” Ming Yu’s voice was ice.

“Heh…” Song Qingpei gave a cold laugh, as if she could see right through her. “Admiral Ming Yu, you put on such a high-and-mighty act, looking down on everything about me with disgust. You think everything I do is to curry favor with the powerful, to climb the ladder, to live a better life. But you just can’t bring yourself to believe that I truly loved you!”

This was the first time she had ever dissected their relationship in front of the Ming Yu who had regained her memory. And the word she used was ‘loved’—past tense.

Yes, loved. But now, that love had been worn away to nothing.

Hearing this so suddenly, Ming Yu froze, her expression momentarily dazed.

Then, as if in self-denial, she stammered, “No, impossible! You… Why should I believe a word you say?”

Faced with this reaction, Song Qingpei found it laughable, but also a little pathetic. Her own past insecurities dissolved in that moment. Ming Yu, it seemed, was even more pitiful than she was.

She had truly loved, been truly hurt, and then decided to let it all go.

But Ming Yu, from beginning to end, had never dared to admit that she had loved, or been loved. Her indignation had always been that she was marked by a scheming woman who coveted her power, and had even borne that woman’s child.

At this, Song Qingpei felt a flicker of understanding for Ming Yu. A low laugh escaped her. “Admiral Ming Yu, if you strip away your status and position, are you so afraid to believe that someone could genuinely love you?”

Ming Yu narrowed her eyes, studying Song Qingpei. After a long moment, she forced out a few words. “What are you trying to say?”

    “That you’re pathetic!”

Song Qingpei’s smile was scornful. “As you wish. You truly aren’t worthy of love. I was blind back then.”

Her words struck Ming Yu’s weak spot like a heavy stone, making her heart clench in a sharp, violent spasm.

Ming Yu’s eyes suddenly turned scarlet, burning with rage. “Get out!”

Since Song Qingpei had no desire to entangle with her further, she readily complied and got out.

At the door, she stopped and turned back. “By the way, I don’t like being falsely accused, so I need to be clear about the perfume. It was a birthday gift from Doctor Li Man. She misunderstood our relationship. Rest assured, I have absolutely no interest in you now.”

With that, Song Qingpei left without a backward glance, leaving a stunned Ming Yu in her wake.

Today is actually Song Qingpei’s birthday?

    She remembered…

Before she’d regained her memory, she had celebrated a birthday with Song Qingpei once.

Back then, Song Qingpei had told her that she was an orphan and didn’t know her real birthday. The day they celebrated was the anniversary of when her adoptive mother had found her. Song Qingpei had even joked with her: “Since you don’t remember anything, from now on, let’s celebrate your birthday on the day I found you!”

Later, Song Qingpei really had celebrated her birthday on that day. Though there was only a simple, small cake, the two of them had eaten it happily. At the time, Song Qingpei had even promised her that for the next birthday, she would work hard to earn enough money to take her out for a big meal.

Song Qingpei’s words echoed in her ears: “Admiral Ming Yu, if you strip away your status and position, are you so afraid to believe that someone could genuinely love you?”

“As you wish. You truly aren’t worthy of love. I was blind back then.”

Suddenly… Ming Yu felt a sense of unease.

She couldn’t stop herself from picking up her phone and calling Li Man to verify the story about the perfume.

When Li Man chirped cheerfully on the other end, “Admiral, you two used it so quickly? How were the results?”

Ming Yu could no longer hear what she was saying. She only felt a vast, terrifying dread envelop her as an unbelievable truth became clearer and clearer before her eyes.

Song Qingpei seemed to have truly loved her.

    But what about her?
