    Li Man’s Test

Ever since Ming Yu left with Songsong, Song Qingpei had been waiting in a state of anxiety.

The news Ming Yu brought back went so smoothly it was astonishing. The Ming Family had actually accepted Songsong’s existence with such ease. Song Qingpei said in disbelief, “I never thought your parents would be so reasonable…”

Before she could finish, she saw Ming Yu’s expression change, and she quickly swallowed her words.

Ming Yu clearly had no desire to continue the topic, much less tell Song Qingpei about her family’s affairs. “Grandma makes the decisions in the Ming Family,” she said, her face cold. “She has already accepted Songsong. You don’t need to concern yourself with it.”

Song Qingpei had wanted to ask more, but she knew better than to press the issue. She turned and took Songsong back to her room to sleep.

Halfway there, Ming Yu suddenly spoke, “After Songsong is asleep, come over.”

It was the same imperious tone, the coldness of her voice tinged with a hint of hoarseness. Song Qingpei knew all too well what that meant.

Her heat period wasn’t over. She still needed Soothing.

But she didn’t want to. In fact, she was disgusted by this kind of loveless, sexual relationship.

So she adopted an attitude of passive resistance. Pretending she hadn’t heard, she silently carried Songsong back to the room.

Songsong was exceptionally quiet today. Perhaps she was tired, or perhaps meeting so many people had been too much for her little mind to process. It wasn’t until they were lying in bed that Songsong snuggled into her arms with extra dependence, nuzzling against her contentedly.

Song Qingpei stroked her small head. “Songsong, did you have fun today?”

    Songsong shook her head.

Song Qingpei was a little surprised. “Why not?”

The little girl’s ability to express herself was limited. She recounted what she had seen in a jumbled, chaotic way. Song Qingpei vaguely guessed that Ming Yu and her mother did not seem to have a good relationship, and a sliver of worry crept into her heart.

But judging by Ming Yu’s reaction earlier, she clearly didn’t want to discuss her family. After some thought, Song Qingpei decided to wait and see. She comforted Songsong for a while, patiently lulling her to sleep.

Then she closed her eyes, pushed Ming Yu’s command aside, and chose to sleep while holding her daughter.

She wasn’t some plaything to be summoned at will.

Meanwhile, Ming Yu was waiting for Song Qingpei to arrive.

She waited and waited, her body slowly beginning to heat up, but Song Qingpei never came.

To think that she had been so proactive, yet Song Qingpei was still making excuses. Ming Yu’s face turned livid. Was she truly that unattractive to her?!

    Resentment, frustration, rage…

A torrent of negative emotions surged up, drowning her, driving her to the brink of madness.

    “Song Qingpei!” she growled.

However, Song Qingpei never came. And Ming Yu couldn’t bring herself to swallow her pride and go find her again.

That night, Ming Yu endured the sweltering heat of her heat period, forcing herself to hold out until dawn.

The next day, Song Qingpei could clearly feel the fury Ming Yu was struggling to suppress.

She pretended not to notice anything, silently resisting Ming Yu’s attempts to treat her like a personal vibrator. Ming Yu had to save face, after all. She wouldn’t resort to force, would she?

As it turned out, Ming Yu wouldn’t use force, but she would use underhanded tactics.

Ming Yu informed her coldly that a banquet would be held at the Ming Family Ancestral Home in three days to publicly announce Songsong’s identity. Then, she added lightly that Song Qingpei was not to attend.

Song Qingpei finally couldn’t take it anymore. She surrendered.

That evening, she reluctantly entered Ming Yu’s room and Soothed her once again. Because of her sullen expression, she was even harshly criticized for it.

But Song Qingpei was completely immune to it by now. After all, if Ming Yu could forget that the banquet was on the same day as her birthday, what other cruel things was she not capable of?

She no longer held any hope for Ming Yu. It was a pure waste of emotion.

Three days later, the Ming Family Ancestral Home was a blaze of brilliant lights. The courtyard was opulently decorated and filled with sumptuous food.

In the center of the resplendent, gilded hall, every lamp sparkled with a dazzling glow, reflecting the luxury and power of high society. Many guests had already arrived, impeccably dressed, conversing elegantly throughout the room.

Servants bustled back and forth, diligently attending to each guest. They silently offered champagne and hors d’oeuvres, taking care to maintain an extremely low profile. Soft music drifted through the air, adding a touch of elegance to the atmosphere.

Ming Yu, devastatingly beautiful in a black formal gown, descended the staircase holding little Songsong’s hand. Songsong wore a white princess dress, a tiny silver crown perched on her head. She looked like a real little princess.

All eyes turned toward them, and guests began to murmur.

“Is that the heir Ming Yu gave birth to?”

“The child is beautiful. She completely inherited her mother’s looks.”

But beneath these superficial compliments, some people’s eyes held hidden hostility and speculation.

“I just wonder who her mother is.”

“Yes, we have no way of knowing how this all came about.”

“I imagine she’s not a presentable1 figure. Otherwise, why would Admiral Ming refuse to mention her?”

Standing at the edge of the crowd, Song Qingpei gripped her wine glass tightly, her eyes never leaving her daughter on the stage.

She knew this moment belonged to Songsong, and she should be happy, but an indescribable loneliness filled her heart.

No one knew that today was also her birthday.

Song Qingpei gave a bitter smile, slowly set down her glass, and retreated into a corner.

Just then, a familiar voice sounded by her ear. “Miss Song, we meet again.”

Song Qingpei turned in astonishment. “Doctor Li, what a coincidence. You’re here too.”

Li Man, dressed in a white gown, wore a perfectly polite smile. She glanced at the little princess in the center of the stage. “Songsong is so beautiful today. You must be very proud of her, right?”

Song Qingpei smiled courteously. “Of course. She has always been my pride.”

Hearing this, Li Man chuckled. “But the date they chose isn’t great. Isn’t it your birthday today? What a coincidence.”

“How did you know today is my birthday?” Song Qingpei looked utterly stunned.

Li Man smiled and explained, “Have you forgotten? You filled it out when you did your tests.” Then she added in feigned surprise, “You didn’t just fill in a random date, did you?”

Song Qingpei shook her head repeatedly. “No, no.”

“That’s good.” Li Man leaned closer and suggested, “It’s crowded in here. Why don’t we go for a walk outside?”

“Alright.” Song Qingpei nodded and followed Li Man out of the bustling banquet hall.

Under the night sky, the lights in the Garden outside the Ming Family Ancestral Home softly illuminated the path, serene and elegant.

They walked slowly along the path, flanked by neatly trimmed hedges and blooming flowers. A light night breeze drifted by, bringing with it a hint of coolness and a measure of tranquility.

Li Man walked ahead, glancing back at Song Qingpei from time to time.

She was the first to broach a topic. “Have you ever thought about whether this kind of life is really suitable for Songsong?”

Song Qingpei frowned slightly. “What do you mean by that…?”

Li Man stopped and turned to face Song Qingpei. “Nothing, really. Just a reminder that wealthy, powerful families are complicated. Once you and Songsong have entered this world, you’re destined to face these things.”

Of course, she understood. This life was already foreign to her, and Songsong was just a defenseless little girl. The future was destined to be entirely unfamiliar and challenging.

Song Qingpei thanked her sincerely. “Doctor Li, thank you for telling me this.”

“Alright, it’s your birthday. Let’s not talk about such unhappy things.”

Li Man cut the topic short and took an exquisitely wrapped gift box from her bag. She held it out to Song Qingpei with a faint smile. “This is a birthday gift I prepared especially for you. I hope you like it.”

Song Qingpei was surprised. She hadn’t expected Li Man to prepare a birthday gift for her and was momentarily too stunned to react.

“Go on, open it and see,” Li Man urged.

Song Qingpei came to her senses, opened the lid, and found a beautiful bottle of perfume inside. A single glance told her it was priceless.

“Doctor Li, thank you so much.”

She didn’t know what else to say, so she just offered her thanks.

“Don’t be so formal,” Li Man said with a laugh. “Come, try it. See if you like the scent.”

With that, she reached out, opened the perfume bottle for Song Qingpei, and spritzed it twice. A faint fragrance drifted into the air.

“It smells wonderful,” Song Qingpei said, unconsciously taking a deeper breath.

“This is a perfume I formulated based on the results of your pheromone test. It’s called ‘Tease’.2” Li Man’s lips curved slightly in a mysterious smile. “Its effects are extraordinary. Just one drop can make pheromone concentration skyrocket. I’m sure the Admiral will be very satisfied.”

Hearing this, Song Qingpei quickly stuffed the perfume into her pocket, an embarrassed blush rising on her cheeks. “Heh heh… Doctor Li, you have a great sense of humor.”

Li Man winked at her. “Trust me, it works really well.”

Too embarrassed to continue the conversation, Song Qingpei could only change the subject. “Well, it’s getting late. We should head back.”

Li Man nodded, and the two of them turned and walked back toward the banquet hall.

Song Qingpei couldn’t stay by Songsong’s side, and she didn’t know anyone else at the party. Fortunately, Li Man remained by her side the entire time. When the banquet ended, Song Qingpei couldn’t help but thank her again. “Doctor Li, thank you so much for today.”

Li Man bid her a polite farewell, but as she turned away, a triumphant smile touched her lips.

The moment she got in her car, she immediately made a call.

“Teacher, I’ve tested her. Song Qingpei had no reaction at all, even when faced with such a potent Seduction Perfume. It must be her.”

    “Excellent.”

A pleasant voice came from the other end of the line. “Don’t make any rash moves for now, lest you arouse Ming Yu’s suspicion. I will find a way to get close to Song Qingpei.”
