    Extra IF-Line – Modern Arc

    Series Finale

Today, Chi Qianning needed to go to school for a project discussion, so she had left home bright and early after breakfast.

At this point, only Song Linlin was left at home. With nothing to do and having not cleaned the room yesterday, she diligently started tidying up the house.

After sweeping and mopping the floor clean, Song Linlin took the mop back to its spot on the balcony. Her gaze then fell upon the clothes that had been hung out to dry yesterday morning and hadn’t been taken in yet.

These clothes had been drying outside for a day and were surely dry by now. Song Linlin conveniently took them down from the hangers and carried them back to the room.

She pushed open the wardrobe door. The wardrobe was quite spacious. Originally, it only held Chi Qianning’s clothes, but now with Song Linlin’s clothes added, more clothes probably made it look messy. At a glance, Song Linlin just felt the wardrobe was cluttered.

“Might as well take them all out and fold them then!” Song Linlin said, full of motivation.

Song Linlin took out all the folded clothes from the wardrobe and tossed them onto the bed in a heap, planning to reorganize them piece by piece.

However, after she cleared out the last layer of clothes, she discovered a flat, black cardboard box beneath the pile.

“En? What’s this?” Song Linlin looked at the box in front of her, puzzled.

From the outside, it was impossible to tell what was inside. The box wasn’t very big, so it probably couldn’t hold anything too large.

Especially since this box was hidden at the very bottom of the wardrobe, it was really hard not to be curious.

Song Linlin let her imagination run wild for a moment, feeling like she had discovered some little secret she hadn’t known before. Chi Qianning wasn’t home right now, so she decided to open the box and secretly take a peek.

Taking the box out of the wardrobe, Song Linlin opened the lid. Inside the mysterious box was an outfit.

    “Clothes?”

This was an outcome Song Linlin hadn’t expected.

Was it necessary to put clothes in a box and then hide it at the very bottom of the wardrobe?

Once she saw clearly what was inside, the initial sense of mystery vanished completely. Song Linlin didn’t know if the clothes were new and unwashed. She subconsciously reached out, picked up the garment to take a look, intending to smell it. Generally, new, unwashed clothes smelled very different from washed ones.

The neatly folded clothes were picked up, and she could smell the faint scent of laundry detergent on them. It seemed Chi Qianning had washed them.

Song Linlin unfolded the garment and held it up. She then realized it was a two-piece black dress. The inner dress had cute bows and white lace trim, and the outer piece was a small white apron. It was just that this style…

“Isn’t this a maid outfit?!” Song Linlin was shocked.

The box even contained matching white thigh-high stockings, a garter, a choker, and a headpiece.

Holding the dress, Song Linlin was utterly stunned for a moment. After repeatedly confirming she wasn’t seeing things, she still couldn’t believe Chi Qianning was the type of person to buy this kind of ‘little dress’.

This didn’t match Chi Qianning’s style at all; the difference was just too huge!

It wasn’t the kind of maid outfit that looked improper at first glance; it was the type of dress one could normally wear out. If Song Linlin had seen this kind of ‘little dress’ back in middle or high school, she probably would have loved it. But now… The accidental discovery that Chi Qianning had bought a maid outfit gave Song Linlin a huge shock. Chi Qianning’s usual clothes were of a simple and sophisticated style; Song Linlin couldn’t imagine what Chi Qianning would look like wearing this outfit.

Song Linlin held the outfit, examining it from all angles, when she suddenly noticed a problem. She voiced her confusion, “This size… seems a bit off, doesn’t it?”

Chi Qianning’s height without shoes was over 1.7 meters, and she was… well-developed in all the right places, with a great figure.

As for the maid outfit before her, Song Linlin compared it to Chi Qianning’s other dresses and found this one was noticeably a bit smaller. It would clearly be too small for Chi Qianning. If she, Song Linlin, were to wear it, however, it might just be the right fit.

    “Wait a minute…”

“This couldn’t really be for me, could it?!”

This thought suddenly popped into Song Linlin’s head. Logically speaking, Chi Qianning wouldn’t have nothing better to do1 than to buy clothes a size smaller than her own. If she had bought ill-fitting clothes online, she would definitely have returned them.

Yet this maid outfit had been tucked away by Chi Qianning at the very bottom of the wardrobe, and even had its tag removed and been washed. Didn’t that mean Chi Qianning had no intention of returning it?

Song Linlin immediately took off her pajamas and tried on the dress. Chi Qianning knew Song Linlin’s clothing size very well; when she put it on, it was a perfect fit. It seemed it really was for her.

There was a large full-length mirror next to the wardrobe. Song Linlin looked at herself in the mirror. According to her own aesthetic taste, it was actually a very good-looking dress, but for some reason, the more she looked, the more awkward she felt.

However, in the end, Song Linlin didn’t take off the outfit just because she felt awkward. Since Chi Qianning had bought it, and she herself had found it, she figured she might as well wear it for now.

Chi Qianning was busy at school the entire day and didn’t have time to come home. She had both lunch and dinner at the school cafeteria. She had sent a message to Song Linlin in advance and only came home after it was completely dark.

Chi Qianning parked her car in the garage. She glanced at the time displayed on the screen; it was already a little past eight in the evening. Chi Qianning pulled out the car key, picked up her bag and a stack of documents from the passenger seat, and got out of the car. After being out for so long, all she wanted now was to go home, take a bath, and relax properly.

Exiting the underground parking lot, she took the elevator to her floor. The door lock was a fingerprint lock, saving her the trouble of fumbling for keys in her bag. Chi Qianning raised her hand and opened the main door. All the lights in the house were on.

“Song Linlin, I’m home,” Chi Qianning said into the house as she closed the door.

Placing the things in her hand on top of the shoe cabinet, Chi Qianning bent down to change her shoes. She had worn high heels out that morning, and her heels were still a bit sore. Hearing the sounds Chi Qianning made outside, Song Linlin, who was in her room, immediately ran out.

By the time Chi Qianning had changed into her slippers and put the high heels back in the shoe cabinet, she looked up and saw Song Linlin standing there, dressed in a black and white maid outfit.

Suddenly seeing Song Linlin dressed like this, Chi Qianning froze at the doorway.

The hem of the black skirt reached just above her knees, revealing her calves clad in white thigh-high stockings. The stockings were the thin summer type, slightly sheer.

A small white lace-trimmed apron was tied over the dress. Around her neck was a choker with a small bell, and she even wore a sweet lace headband on her head.

Chi Qianning stood stunned for several seconds. She naturally recognized at a glance that the outfit Song Linlin was wearing was the very same maid outfit she had hidden at the bottom of the wardrobe.

What Chi Qianning couldn’t figure out, though, was—she had clearly hidden the outfit in such a concealed place, so how did Song Linlin still manage to find it?

One day, on a sudden whim, Chi Qianning had opened a shopping app and ordered this maid outfit. As if guided by some unseen force, she had bought it in Song Linlin’s size.

After the outfit arrived, Chi Qianning washed it. But since she couldn’t possibly wear it herself, it had been left unused in the wardrobe.

Later, when Song Linlin moved in with her, Chi Qianning felt embarrassed just thinking that she had actually bought such an outfit. She was even more mortified at the thought of Song Linlin discovering she had bought a maid outfit, so she put it in the box and kept it hidden at the very bottom of the wardrobe.

For all these days, it had remained undiscovered. But today, Song Linlin had not only found the clothes she’d hidden but had even put on the dress.

Chi Qianning was suddenly overcome with awkwardness. She looked Song Linlin up and down, trying to act nonchalant, but when she spoke, her voice betrayed her embarrassment, “You… why are you wearing this?”

    “What’s wrong with these clothes?”

Seeing Chi Qianning’s embarrassed and shy expression, Song Linlin’s boredom from Chi Qianning being away all day lifted considerably. Now, she really wanted to tease her a bit.

So, Song Linlin feigned ignorance and retorted, “I was tidying the wardrobe today, Teacher Chi. Guess what I found?”

Chi Qianning pressed her lips together, her gaze darting elsewhere, too embarrassed to answer. But the more she didn’t answer, the more pleased Song Linlin became.

Song Linlin walked over to Chi Qianning, reached out to link arms with her, pressing close. Then, she continued on her own, her tone feigning surprise, “Teacher Chi, I actually found a black box at the very bottom of the wardrobe!”

“But why would there be a box in the wardrobe? And it even had this outfit inside.”

“Teacher Chi, who do you think put this box at the very bottom of the wardrobe? And even specially put this outfit in a box.”

Chi Qianning was naturally thin-skinned; having such a little secret exposed to her face made her feel incredibly awkward, especially since Song Linlin had actually put on the clothes.

Now, Song Linlin was wearing the maid outfit she had hidden, and to top it off, was linking arms with her, knowingly asking her why.

Chi Qianning’s ears turned slightly red. Too embarrassed to continue this topic, she just wanted it to end quickly. She patted Song Linlin’s hand that was linked with hers, trying to pull her arm free, “Alright, stop fooling around.”

“How am I fooling around? Don’t tell me you hid this box there yourself, Teacher Chi?” Song Linlin didn’t go along with Chi Qianning’s wishes, instead hugging her arm even tighter and asking with a smile.

Chi Qianning was speechless and couldn’t refute it, because she really had hidden it secretly. Song Linlin watched Chi Qianning’s face turn a shade redder before deciding to let her off the hook for now.

“Alright, you’ve been busy outside all day, you must be tired. Come in and rest.”

Hearing this, Chi Qianning relaxed a little. Song Linlin, still linking arms with her, walked into the room. Song Linlin also conveniently picked up the stack of documents from the shoe cabinet and placed it on the living room table.

The two returned to the room together. Chi Qianning put down her bag, then turned to look at Song Linlin. Just seeing Song Linlin in this outfit made her feel awkward, so she asked, “Aren’t you going to change out of that?”

“What’s the rush? I’ll change after my bath, of course,” Song Linlin replied unhurriedly, sitting on the edge of the bed.

Chi Qianning couldn’t very well strip the clothes off her, so she had to settle for the next best thing—as long as she could avoid seeing it for a while. She nodded. “Alright then, I’ll go take a bath first. You can go later.”

Saying that, Chi Qianning started towards the bathroom, but before she had taken more than a few steps, Song Linlin grabbed her arm, stopping her from going any further.

“En?” Her arm held, Chi Qianning had no choice but to stop and turn her head, looking at Song Linlin in confusion.

Song Linlin pulled Chi Qianning down to sit on the edge of the bed beside her. They sat shoulder to shoulder. Song Linlin said, “It’s only a little past eight, no need to rush to bed. Let’s go later.”

“Teacher Chi, we can’t let the clothes be bought for nothing. How about we play a role-playing game?”

“What kind of opening scenario do you want? I’ll be the diligent maid, and you be the master?”

Song Linlin pestered Chi Qianning, saying several sentences in one breath, not feeling awkward at all. Just listening to her words made Chi Qianning’s face burn.

Yet, only Chi Qianning felt embarrassed listening; Song Linlin didn’t feel awkward in the slightest.

Seeing Chi Qianning didn’t answer, Song Linlin leaned closer, bringing her face right in front of Chi Qianning’s, and asked with a smile, “What do you think… Master?”

Chi Qianning felt that if she didn’t agree, Song Linlin probably wouldn’t let up. She could only blush, nod, and turn her head away slightly. “Alright, fine.”

    “Yes, Master.”

“You’ve been busy outside all day. Would you like your maid to give you a massage to help you relax?” Song Linlin quickly got into character, asking in a soft voice.

Chi Qianning did indeed feel quite tired, but a massage and all that… felt a bit too embarrassing. She was just about to say something, but Song Linlin gave her no chance to speak.

“Alright, it seems Master is very much in need of a massage. I will do my best to serve you well!”

The moment Song Linlin finished speaking, Chi Qianning felt herself being pushed. Song Linlin’s move was too sudden; Chi Qianning didn’t react in time and found herself lying directly on the soft bedding. The mattress underneath was very springy, so the push didn’t hurt.

“Just lie comfortably, Master, and enjoy it,” Song Linlin said, kneeling beside her and placing her palms on Chi Qianning’s back.

Although Chi Qianning felt embarrassed, she really did just lie there on her stomach without moving. It seemed that after a busy day out, having someone give her a massage at home in the evening wasn’t too bad.

Thinking this, Chi Qianning’s tense body relaxed considerably. She remained lying face down on the bed, her back to Song Linlin.

    “Then I’ll begin, okay?”

With that, Song Linlin’s fingers gripped Chi Qianning’s shoulders. She often massaged the shoulders of elders and older relatives at home, so she had some experience in this area.

She controlled the pressure well, neither too hard nor too light. As Song Linlin massaged her, Chi Qianning, lying on the bed, felt much of her day’s fatigue lessen, and her whole body completely relaxed.

“Teacher Chi, is this pressure okay?” Song Linlin asked, her hands not stopping their movements.

Chi Qianning would be graduating in a few days. These days, she was busy with various academic matters every day and wasn’t as relaxed as before. Song Linlin, on the other hand, was still leisurely and carefree.

Seeing Chi Qianning so busy every day, Song Linlin naturally felt for her. But she couldn’t help much with Chi Qianning’s academic affairs, so she could only try her best to do what she could for Chi Qianning in other aspects. That’s why Song Linlin was massaging her so earnestly right now.

Chi Qianning lay on the bed, her cheek resting on the soft bedding. She hummed a languid “Mm,” her voice muffled through the bedding, sounding like a cat having its belly rubbed. If she had a tail, it would surely be sticking up and curled right now.

Seeing Chi Qianning’s look of enjoyment was undoubtedly the greatest encouragement for Song Linlin. She naturally became even more earnest, her hands moving from massaging her shoulders to kneading her entire back.

While massaging, Song Linlin also found time to think about what breakfast to make for Chi Qianning tomorrow. “Do you have to get up early for school again tomorrow?”

If she still had to leave early, Song Linlin wouldn’t have much time to prepare, so they could only have a simple meal, or just buy breakfast on the way.

Chi Qianning had been leaving early these past few days. Seeing her so busy, Song Linlin really wanted to make a more sumptuous breakfast tomorrow to treat her.

Chi Qianning shifted her head to the other side, her voice even more languid. “Not tomorrow. Today’s preparations are pretty much done. My advisor told me to rest for these two days and just wait for the graduation defense later.”

Hearing that Chi Qianning wouldn’t be so busy anymore, Song Linlin was happier than if she herself had suddenly gotten a few days off. She quickly said, “Great! Then I’ll make a delicious meal tomorrow to treat you!”

    “Mmm…”

Chi Qianning’s voice was very soft, her tone already tinged with drowsiness and sleepiness. She lay on the soft bed, Song Linlin still massaging her back. She had been busy all day, and tomorrow she could finally rest properly. The accumulated fatigue from these past days seemed to surge all at once, making her eyelids feel heavier and heavier. “What would Teacher Chi like to eat tomorrow?” Song Linlin asked.

Song Linlin hadn’t noticed Chi Qianning was already drifting off. While massaging the person beneath her, she continued, “I recently learned a new dish. I tried making it myself when you weren’t around, Teacher Chi, and it tasted pretty good. Want me to make it for you to try tomorrow?”

    “Okay.”

Chi Qianning responded drowsily, her mind increasingly unable to clearly register what Song Linlin was saying. She could only answer by instinct.

Song Linlin kept talking. Even if Chi Qianning only responded occasionally, she herself could talk non-stop. Especially when it came to Chi Qianning, it seemed Song Linlin had an endless supply of things to say.

By the time Song Linlin noticed Chi Qianning hadn’t responded for a long while, she realized the silence had stretched on a bit too long. Song Linlin stopped massaging and tentatively called out, “Teacher Chi?”

Chi Qianning didn’t reply. The only sound in the quiet room was the echo of their breathing; otherwise, it was completely silent.

    “Fallen asleep?”

Song Linlin leaned down. Due to the angle, she couldn’t directly see Chi Qianning’s face. Song Linlin moved closer to Chi Qianning’s head and saw her lying on her stomach with her eyes closed, breathing steadily.

She even fell asleep during a massage. Looks like she’s really been exhausted lately… Song Linlin thought to herself.

Since Chi Qianning was already asleep, Song Linlin didn’t intend to wake her. After being busy for so many days, she deserved a good rest.

Song Linlin leaned closer to Chi Qianning again, lowered her head, and gently kissed her exposed cheek. Her movements were extremely soft and cautious, afraid of waking Chi Qianning.

After the kiss, Song Linlin looked at Chi Qianning’s sleeping face and said softly, “If you’re tired, just sleep. Good night, Teacher Chi.”

The next day was Saturday. Song Linlin had no classes. When she went to bed, she deliberately turned off her alarm clock, afraid it would disturb Chi Qianning’s rest. In the morning, she woke up entirely due to her biological clock.

The curtains in the room were drawn tightly, so even though it was past nine o’clock, it still looked like nighttime. Chi Qianning was still asleep. Song Linlin got out of bed by herself.

There was no need to make breakfast now. Song Linlin decided to let Chi Qianning sleep a while longer. It wasn’t until noon, when Song Linlin had almost finished making lunch, that she went to wake Chi Qianning up.

After Chi Qianning washed up, she looked at the lunch Song Linlin had meticulously prepared for her and suddenly said earnestly, “Thank you, Song Linlin.”

“What?” Song Linlin was just walking out of the kitchen with a bowl of rice.

“I said, thank you,” Chi Qianning repeated.

Song Linlin put down the porcelain bowl in her hand, tilted her head as she looked at Chi Qianning, her intonation rising at the end, “En? Just thank you?”

“More than that. And I love you.”
