    I Will Take Responsibility

Song Linlin first lowered her head to look at her own clothes, afraid she wasn’t wearing anything at all. Fortunately, when she looked down, the most embarrassing situation hadn’t occurred; she was still wearing a thin layer of clothing, but why did these clothes feel a bit strange?

Her memory of last night’s end was very fuzzy. She only remembered seeming utterly exhausted, climbing into bed after washing up, and practically falling asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.

And now, Song Linlin looked at the clothes she was wearing. They were clearly on inside out; she had put the inner layer on the outside.

Moreover, the clothes were obviously a bit large for Song Linlin’s frame, the sleeves too long by a section. Song Linlin flipped open the collar to look at the pattern, only then realizing—weren’t these the clothes Chi Qianning had worn yesterday?

The clothes were wrinkled from Song Linlin sleeping in them. Not only were they inside out, but even the buttons at the placket were fastened haphazardly. No wonder she kept feeling uncomfortable around her neck while sleeping.

Song Linlin lifted the covers on Chi Qianning’s side. Just as she expected, Chi Qianning’s clothes were also messy. The only thing slightly better for her than Song Linlin was that her clothes weren’t inside out.

The blanket covering her body was suddenly lifted. Chi Qianning squinted her eyes, still somewhat unaccustomed to the bright environment, raising a hand to shield her eyes.

Song Linlin just sat quietly beside her, watching her, her eyes glancing towards the other woman’s neck. Sure enough, she saw the red marks, exactly the same as in her memory. The marks extended from the neck down to the collar, the part beyond hidden by clothing, making it impossible to see what was underneath.

Seeing these marks, Song Linlin finally confirmed that last night wasn’t just a dream she had imagined. It had really happened. She and Chi Qianning had mistakenly ingested two doses of Hehuan San, and later, in a muddle, ended up kissing.

Of course, Song Linlin was still a person of principle. Even though things had gone that far yesterday, in the end, nothing truly irreversible had happened.

Recalling how Chi Qianning had seemed even more exhausted than herself later last night, Song Linlin couldn’t help her ears burning. She couldn’t pretend nothing had happened either. At this moment, her gaze flickered away evasively as she spoke, embarrassed, “Um… how are you feeling now? Is anything wrong?”

Hearing the person beside her speak, Chi Qianning lowered her hand and turned her head to look at Song Linlin. Naturally, she also noticed at a glance that Song Linlin was wearing her own outer robe from yesterday. As for the inner clothes, they had gotten wet and couldn’t be worn anymore.

Lowering her head to look at her own clothes, Chi Qianning was now wearing Song Linlin’s Disciple Uniform. Last night, after her bath, it was Song Linlin who had dressed her.

Chi Qianning also avoided meeting Song Linlin’s gaze. Although one place still felt a bit uncomfortable, she still spoke, her voice hoarse, trying her best to maintain a blank expression, “It’s nothing.”

    “Oh.” Song Linlin nodded.

“Then I’ll go change. You should change out of this outfit too.”

If Song Linlin remembered correctly, the clothes she was wearing now were probably picked up from the floor after her bath yesterday. Her mind wasn’t very clear then either, but regardless, having something to wear was better than waking up to find herself naked.

By the time Song Linlin walked out of the room holding clean clothes, Chi Qianning was unbuttoning her top. She looked down at the marks on her body, then silently fastened her clothes again.

Song Linlin had already changed her clothes. Only after washing up did she return to the room. Pushing open the bedroom door, her eyes subconsciously glanced towards the bed, searching for Chi Qianning’s figure. Sure enough, she saw Chi Qianning sitting on the edge of the bed.

Chi Qianning had already changed into a clean dress by now. The Disciple Uniform she had taken off was neatly folded in a corner.

Hearing the door open, Chi Qianning looked up and saw Song Linlin at the entrance. Their gazes met briefly, then awkwardly shifted away again.

What happened last night had occurred too suddenly. There was already something ambiguous between the two, and coupled with the effects of the drug, Song Linlin momentarily lost control and leaned in to kiss her. Chi Qianning hadn’t refused, leading to the subsequent events.

It felt as if the two had done everything, yet also as if they hadn’t done much at all.

Song Linlin swallowed nervously and moved closer to Chi Qianning, sitting down beside her. Unsure what to say, her dark blue eyes stared intently at the person next to her.

Being stared at like this, Chi Qianning couldn’t bear the direct gaze for long and was the first to break the awkward silence, turning her head away to avoid Song Linlin’s eyes. “Stop looking.”

Seeing the other woman avoiding her, Song Linlin actually smiled. She reached out, took hold of Chi Qianning’s chin, and turned her face back to face her. “What are you hiding from?”

Then, Song Linlin cupped Chi Qianning’s face with both hands, preventing her from turning away again. Being held like this inevitably reminded Chi Qianning of certain experiences from last night. The tips of her ears uncontrollably started to burn. Her red eyes looked at Song Linlin, her gaze unintentionally landing on the other’s lips.

Yesterday, Song Linlin had held her face just like this, lifting her head to kiss her.

Their gazes met, breaths catching slightly. Then Song Linlin leaned closer to Chi Qianning, her lips feeling a soft touch. The lips merely brushed lightly for a second, like a dragonfly skimming the water, before separating again.

It was a very light kiss. Song Linlin didn’t dare use force, afraid that kissing for too long would lead to some other mishap. The moment she touched the other’s soft lips, she immediately retreated, lowering the hands that cupped Chi Qianning’s cheeks.

Song Linlin opened her eyes, meeting Chi Qianning’s red irises up close. Her face flushed red, and although very embarrassed, she still spoke in a small voice:

“Mm… about last night… I will take responsibility!”

Song Linlin waited for three seconds without receiving a response and couldn’t help but start to panic. But then, Chi Qianning’s lips suddenly, caught off guard, pressed against hers. As if dissatisfied with Song Linlin’s brief touch just now, the force was heavy, the kiss fervent.

The sudden kiss stunned Song Linlin for a moment; she hadn’t expected the other woman to kiss her so directly. But she quickly reacted, reaching out to wrap an arm around Chi Qianning’s lower back, pulling their bodies closer.

Song Linlin deepened the kiss, regaining dominance within seconds. Her free hand grasped Chi Qianning’s, their fingers tightly interlaced. After last night’s practice, Song Linlin had undoubtedly accumulated some experience in kissing techniques, especially since the practice partner was the same person, making it easy to figure out ways her partner liked.

Such a kiss was very effective on Chi Qianning. Her body relaxed, and she closed her eyes, feeling the distinct emotion brought about by the simple touch of lips. A sweet taste bloomed in her heart, filling her completely with the sensation.

It was truly a unique feeling. If time could just pause here, stopping permanently at this moment, it seemed like it wouldn’t be a bad outcome.

After a long while, Chi Qianning raised her free hand and pushed hard against Song Linlin’s shoulder, forcibly pushing away Song Linlin, who was attempting to slip her tongue in. The kiss, which had lasted nearly three minutes, finally broke apart.

Chi Qianning glared at Song Linlin. She hadn’t forgotten how yesterday’s situation had slowly escalated from simple kissing until it got completely out of hand1. Wasn’t it precisely because she hadn’t guarded against Song Linlin and ended up being kissed into a daze?

Only one night had passed, and moreover, it was early morning. That kind of experience was too mortifying; Chi Qianning wasn’t particularly eager to go through it again.

So she glared at Song Linlin and emphasized, “Song Linlin, it’s still morning. You should go do something proper.”

Of course, when Chi Qianning said this, her face still held a faint blush. Neither of them had yet learned to breathe properly while kissing, so she was still panting slightly, possessing absolutely no intimidating presence.

Song Linlin could only nod regretfully. Thinking about it, it did make sense. Besides, she really did have things she needed to do now. So Song Linlin released Chi Qianning’s tightly held hand and nodded, “Oh, okay. I’ll go do something proper.”

Chi Qianning had just said it casually, not expecting Song Linlin to agree so easily, without trying to haggle or just lie flat. This was truly beyond Chi Qianning’s expectations.

After all, having spent so much time with Song Linlin, it wasn’t just a day or two that Song Linlin had been idling around doing nothing. Usually, when Chi Qianning urged her, she completely ignored it. Why did she agree so readily today?

Seeing that Song Linlin had indeed put away her playful expression, she stood up from the edge of the bed and rolled up her sleeves, clearly preparing to do something. Chi Qianning couldn’t help asking curiously:

“What are you going to do?”

Song Linlin abruptly pulled back the covers on the bed. Chi Qianning’s eyes followed her movements. Where the covers were lifted, there was a large, dark stain on the sheet underneath.

Chi Qianning was puzzled for a second, then, as if recalling something, a wave of heat immediately rushed to her face, even the tips of her ears turning bright red.

Song Linlin was actually in the mood to chuckle lightly now. Seeing Chi Qianning blushing like a shrimp inexplicably improved her mood quite a bit. She leaned in and planted a kiss on that thoroughly red cheek; it felt warm to the touch. Then she smiled:

“I’m going to wash our bedsheet. If I take it to wash now and let it dry all day, it’ll definitely be dry by tonight.”

As Song Linlin spoke, her hands didn’t stop moving. She deftly untied the knots securing the bedsheet and turned her head, “Get up for a second, I need to take the sheet off.”

Chi Qianning stood up awkwardly, practically unable to look directly at that sheet.

“The mattress pad underneath probably needs to be taken outside to air out too,” Song Linlin muttered to herself.

After all, judging by the extent of things back then, the pad surely couldn’t have avoided getting stained as well.

“Alright, stop talking!” Chi Qianning spoke up from the side, glaring fiercely at Song Linlin.

    “Oh…”

Song Linlin silently gathered the bedsheet and the mattress pad, turned, and walked towards the door. As she passed Chi Qianning, she paused for a moment. Since she wasn’t allowed to talk about the bedsheet, she decided to be a bit provocative2 about something else. “Actually, you still have clothes left on the rack where you put them during your bath. Those are soaked too. I’ll wash them for you later!”
