    Kiss

In an instant, their lips met. The touch was soft, yet carried a slight coolness. This kiss came too suddenly, too caught off guard1; Chi Qianning hadn’t even fully reacted before Song Linlin had abruptly kissed her.

Unlike the previous pecks on the cheek, this was, in the truest sense, their first real kiss. The kiss interrupted by Zhang San in the tent that night was only now truly completed, fulfilling the regret of that moment.

Both were newbies2 in this regard, with no experience to draw upon. Their reactions now were naturally exceedingly awkward. Song Linlin had only acted on impulse, kissing her, and then her mind went completely blank, unsure of what to do next, what actions to take.

The other person’s lips were even softer than imagined. Song Linlin simply kept her lips pressed against Chi Qianning’s, making no other movements. Chi Qianning was also completely stiff, eyes wide open, her hand raised and hovering in the air, fingers clutching the corner of Song Linlin’s clothing.

This kiss lasted for quite a while before Song Linlin silently drew back slightly, leaving Chi Qianning’s lips. She opened her eyes, her lashes fluttering uneasily, her dark blue eyes beneath them fixed intently on Chi Qianning, observing her reaction.

She saw Chi Qianning opposite her, also with eyes open. Their gazes met. Song Linlin could see her own reflection in the depths of the other’s eyes. Those red irises usually held a cool indifference, yet at this moment, they looked back at her with the same emotion. Song Linlin pressed her forehead against the other’s, their exhaled breaths mingling, feeling each other’s respiration.

Song Linlin couldn’t help but feel her face flush hot; she knew without looking that her cheeks must be thoroughly red. She swallowed nervously, her throat bobbing, the sound of her heartbeat thrumming incessantly in her ears, difficult to calm. In this quiet environment, Song Linlin suspected even the person opposite her could hear her heartbeat. She met Chi Qianning’s gaze nervously for several seconds, unsure of what to say.

Only uneven breathing echoed in the room. Song Linlin just looked at the beautiful face opposite her, her gaze shifting from the scarlet eyes beneath silver lashes, to the high bridge of her nose, finally landing on those soft lips. Chi Qianning’s skin had always been very fair, her lip color always pale. Now, perhaps because they had just been kissed, her lips carried a moist sheen, tinged with a faint pink, like light-colored jelly. Song Linlin couldn’t help her breath catching.

“Is this okay?” Song Linlin suddenly asked in a small voice, the words mumbled, unclear what exactly she was asking permission for.

Chi Qianning couldn’t withstand the other’s fervent gaze and subconsciously looked away, letting out an extremely faint “Mm” from her nose, so soft it was almost inaudible, like a feather drifting down. But Song Linlin was close enough; even though the sound was faint, she heard Chi Qianning’s response clearly.

Having received the other’s affirmative answer, Song Linlin couldn’t help but chuckle softly. She raised a hand to cup Chi Qianning’s cheek. The touch of her palm was delicate, but the other’s cheek was equally warm, her fair skin flushed with a faint pink. The sensation was like stroking a piece of fine suet jade. Song Linlin only held her gently, carefully, afraid to use force, as if handling a fragile treasure.

She lowered her head again, her warm lips pressing against the other person’s eyelid. The moment they touched, the lashes beneath trembled like tiny brushes, tickling her skin. This was still a gentle and restrained kiss. Song Linlin raised her other hand, placing it on the back of Chi Qianning’s head, preventing her from dodging backward, securing her head in place.

Then, the kiss began to move, landing between her brows and on the tip of her nose, tentatively, before finally returning to Chi Qianning’s lips. Song Linlin felt Chi Qianning’s body tremble slightly, sensing her inner nervousness. Song Linlin wasn’t much better off herself; nervousness, panic, and a deeply hidden excitement and thrill mingled together, her mind a chaotic mess. She only followed the instinctive desire to kiss the other’s lips.

Although Song Linlin was also a complete newbie regarding kissing, with her practical hands-on experience tallying at two instances so far, she fortunately had abundant theoretical knowledge. Having seen such things many times, she at least knew quite a bit. This time, it was no longer just a stiff pressing of lips followed by inaction. Since the other person had agreed, her courage had grown considerably now. She tentatively tried to gently take one of Chi Qianning’s lips between her own.

This move succeeded easily. Only then did Song Linlin close her eyes, concentrating on experiencing the moment. With her eyes closed, she couldn’t see anything; her vision plunged into darkness, which conversely allowed her to focus more intently on other details.

For example, Chi Qianning’s usually shallow breathing had now become much heavier, the temperature of her cheeks rising along with it. The hand supporting the back of her head could feel the tension in the person before her.

Between their breaths, often one person’s exhaled air was inhaled by the other. This feeling was quite strange. Song Linlin’s breath was much hotter than Chi Qianning’s; merely the exchange of breath uncontrollably made Song Linlin feel thrilled.

Song Linlin focused on kissing the person who captivated her. Every part of the other’s beautiful face was flawless. Even without any adornment, just standing quietly in a crowd doing nothing was enough to be attention-grabbing3.

However, just the powerful, unapproachable4 aura and cool temperament she unintentionally radiated were enough to make anyone who saw her dare not entertain defiling thoughts. And now, Song Linlin was kissing her.

It was hard to say whether it was the effect of those two small Hehuan San5 from earlier, or if it was her own long-buried thoughts acting up6, but once Song Linlin kissed the other’s lips, she didn’t want to separate again.

It was like a child gazing at an exquisite cake in a glass display case, having longed for it for ages but only able to watch helplessly7 from outside due to the high price. Now, suddenly obtaining the imagined treasure, she was naturally reluctant to devour it all at once, instead savoring it bit by bit.

The taste was indeed as wonderful as imagined. The other’s lips were very soft, no dead skin, and cool to the touch. Even the simple contact of lip against lip made Song Linlin’s fingertips tremble uncontrollably with nervousness and honor.

She had fantasized about such a thing happening many times, but when it truly arrived, all the imagined ability to handle with ease8 dissolved into foam. All those kiss scenes she had watched before transmigration were all watched in vain9. She could only follow the instincts of her consciousness and body, awkwardly kissing the other person.

Fine and dense kisses fell. Song Linlin softened her movements, vaguely fearing this was all a dream of hers, and that being slightly more reckless would shatter this fragile dreamscape. After waking from the dream, would these things she had longed for disappear? Song Linlin didn’t want to gamble.

As the kiss continued, Song Linlin felt as if a long-buried seed within her heart was rapidly taking root and sprouting. But right now, she had no time to pay attention to other things, her entire focus consumed by the kiss with the other person.

Inside the quiet room, only the occasional gust of wind from outside could be heard, rustling the leaves, the sound drifting indoors. Outside the window, the sky was still in the twilight of sunset, orange sunlight illuminating the heavens. This place was sufficiently secluded; no one would come to disturb them.

The bedroom was equally silent. After quite a while, Song Linlin finally stopped the gentle kiss. She hadn’t dared to breathe while kissing, and only now, slightly separated, did she take large gulps of air. Perhaps it was Song Linlin’s imagination, but she felt the surrounding air had unknowingly warmed up considerably.

Song Linlin opened her eyes, her gaze fixed on Chi Qianning. They were still sitting on the chairs by the tea table. Even with the two chairs pushed close together, sitting naturally left some distance between them. Currently, Song Linlin was bending her body, leaning forward to get close to Chi Qianning. Holding this position for a long time inevitably made her waist a bit sore.

The sitting posture was undoubtedly too inconvenient. Song Linlin simply stood up now, switching to using both hands to cup Chi Qianning’s face. Her hands compelled Chi Qianning to lift her chin high upwards, while Song Linlin bent down to once again kiss the face she held.

This way, Song Linlin felt much more relaxed, no longer needing to exert so much effort to get close to Chi Qianning. Plus, with the experience of the first two tentative kisses, she was undoubtedly much more practiced this time, her movements no longer as clumsy as at the very beginning.

The night always seemed so short. The next day, sunlight from outside shone through the window into the bedroom. A beam of light happened to fall right on Song Linlin’s face. Feeling the brightness on her eyelids, she couldn’t help but frown, groggily opening her eyes.

Having been closed all night, her eyes suddenly received such bright light, causing Song Linlin’s opened eyes to narrow again. She habitually reached up and rubbed her still blurry eyes. The first sensation upon waking was dizziness.

Her head felt like a pile of mush, her consciousness hazy and drowsy. Memories hadn’t yet returned. At this moment, Song Linlin, eyes open, only felt utterly bewildered.

    Who am I?

    Where am I?

    What did I do yesterday?

Song Linlin lay in bed, remaining bewildered like this for several seconds before memories gradually returned to her mind, recalling her past experiences.

She subconsciously wanted to sit up and get out of bed for morning class. However, seeing the obvious sunlight in the room, she groggily realized it probably wasn’t early anymore; she seemed to have overslept past the time for morning class.

Song Linlin, who had intended to sit up, ultimately chose to give up. Her head was spinning right now; better to keep sleeping. So, Song Linlin rolled over and saw someone lying quietly in the spot beside her, their silver hair scattered on the pillow, face buried in the covers.

Seeing the familiar hair color, Song Linlin’s memories of yesterday slowly recovered. Then her expression froze. Her previously fuzzy mind instantly became clear, no longer able to lie there so calmly. She shot up into a sitting position with a thump.

Perhaps Song Linlin’s reaction was too drastic. Chi Qianning, who had been sleeping soundly beside her, was woken up by the noise. She opened her eyes, those red irises clearly still hazy with sleepiness, her voice somewhat hoarse:

“Song Linlin, what are you doing?”

The author has something to say:

Things have been too busy in real life10 recently, haven’t had much time to write a lot. That part of the process won’t be skipped, I just haven’t finished writing it yet. I’ll let you know when it’s done.
