Still Have This Side – Chapter 65
by Little PandaThey only slow down my piano practice.
“Doesn’t Auntie Aiyun know how to play the piano?”
Qui Zimin asked, lying on her bed.
“That’s right, she doesn’t.”
Qiu Baiyu helped tuck her in.
“But she’s very good at making money.”
“She and Auntie Wanyue each have their own strengths.”
One has profound musical accomplishments, while the other has an exceptional business mind; neither is inferior to the other.
“What about Grandma?” Qui Zimin asked, “Can Grandma do both?”
Qiu Baiyu’s eyes revealed a gentle gaze as she patted the blanket covering her.
“You can ask Grandma this question yourself the next time you see her, and let her tell you the answer.”
“Mm!”
Qui Zimin’s eyes were full of smiles.
“Auntie, I feel super happy today~”
In the afternoon, she went to play at her good friend’s house, in the evening she went to Auntie’s house for dinner, and she even got a gentle grandma.
Today, she is the happiest little child in the whole world!
The smile at the corners of Qiu Baiyu’s lips deepened.
Being able to see her so happy every day is certainly the best thing possible.
“Then go to sleep quickly, this way you might be able to extend this happiness into your dreams, and have a very beautiful dream.”
Upon hearing these words, Qui Zimin hurriedly closed her eyes: “Good night, Auntie!”
“Good night.”
Qiu Baiyu turned off the lights in the room and left, closing the door.
She returned to her own room, passing by the master bedroom, and was called to stop by someone standing at the door.
“Take out your phone,” Yi Wanyue suddenly said.
“What for?”
Qiu Baiyu did as told, not understanding why.
Then, her phone received several messages from Yi Wanyue in succession, all of them picturesโscreenshots of Yi Wanyue as a child sitting on the sofa covering her ears.
Qiu Baiyu: “?”
Yi Wanyue calmly put away her phone: “As memento, you need high-quality pictures.”
She wouldn’t miss any opportunity to make Qiu Baiyu find her cute.
Since Qiu Baiyu thought she was cute as a child, she’d send more pictures, letting Qiu Baiyu experience it fully. She could even set them as her screensaver to look at every day if she wanted.
Qiu Baiyu effortlessly obtained so many childhood photos of her beloved, and they were sent by her beloved on her own initiative.
Happiness really came very suddenly.
How could she refuse? She saved them all.
“You’re always so thoughtful.”
Yi Wanyue leaned against the door frame, her gaze catching Qiu Baiyu’s action of saving the pictures. The corners of her lips curved slightly upward as she asked, “Do you really think I was cute as a child?”
Qiu Baiyu paused upon hearing these words.
Then, she raised her phone, showing Yi Wanyue the screen with the image of a beautiful little dumpling covering her ears in shock: “Isn’t this cute?”
Yi Wanyue was amused by her serious demeanor, as if Qiu Baiyu would start doubting her own aesthetic sense if she said it wasn’t cute.
“I was cute before, but am I not cute now?”
Such words suddenly fell upon Qiu Baiyu’s ears.
She couldn’t help but look at Yi Wanyue, coincidentally meeting her curious and gentle gaze.
Her heartbeat once again slipped out of control.
Qiu Baiyu felt helpless.
Both lovestruck and helpless.
How could she not be cute?
She was clearly cute every single moment, so cute that it made her fall deeply and inextricably in love.
“Of course you’re cute,” Qiu Baiyu answered, following her heart, “You were cute as a child, and you’re cute now too.”
“Then I can rest assured.”
She took a step closer to Qiu Baiyu, her gaze tightly holding onto her eyes.
“I hope I can always be cute in your heart, more than anyone else.”
โShe was seeking to be special.
This realization popped up in Qiu Baiyu’s mind, her gaze seemingly locked firmly by Yi Wanyue, unable to look away.
She couldn’t help but say: “In my heart, you’ve always surpassed everyone else.”
She saw those peach blossom eyes gently curve into two crescent moons.
Yi Wanyue’s hand touched her face, tenderly cupping her cheeks.
Yi Wanyue’s voice fell by her ear, full of laughter: “Then I can rest assured.”
In an instant, a subtle feeling flashed through Qiu Baiyu’s heart.
She tried to grasp it to explore further, but this feeling came and went so quickly that she couldn’t even catch its tail, leaving her only able to helplessly sigh inwardly.
“Why are you comparing yourself with others? Like a child.”
Yi Wanyue was completely at ease, her smile undiminished: “It’s okay to be childish occasionally in front of you.”
“That’s true,” Qiu Baiyu patted the back of her hand, “Childishness is welcome, please feel free.”
“Then I’ll sleep with you tonight.”
“?”
“Didn’t you say to feel free?”
“โฆAlright.”
Qiu Baiyu moved aside: “Miss Yi, please.”
โExactly what she wanted.
Yi Wanyue said: “I’ll sleep with you tomorrow too.”
Qiu Baiyu nodded calmly: “Alright.”
“The day after tomorrow as well.”
“Okay.”
“For the next month, I’ll sleep with you.”
“That’s all fine.”
“How about this entire year?”
“No problem either.”
Yi Wanyue looked at Qiu Baiyu.
She saw the other person say with considerable composure and indulgence: “Didn’t I say to feel free?”
Yi Wanyue instantly couldn’t help but smile.
She felt she was about to fall in love with her.
These days, when Qui Zimin went out for classes, Qiu Baiyu and Yi Wanyue stayed at home to watch her childhood USB drives compiled by Yi Huayu.
This afternoon was no exception.
Yi Wanyue’s family had a home theater, and today they sat in this room to watch.
The large screen displayed Yi Wanyue’s childhood, recording many of her firsts.
Her first birthday, first steps, first time playing the piano, first piano competitionโฆ The child in the images grew up step by step as the videos changed.
Watching and listening, Qiu Baiyu felt as if she had participated in Yi Wanyue’s childhood.
She couldn’t help but wonder, what if they had met when she was little?
She quickly came to her senses and swept this question out of her mind.
The price she paid to come to this world was death. If she had passed away at such a young age, her grandmother would certainly have been very sad, so it’s better that they met after growing up.
Some encounters are just right when they happen a little later.
“Our Wanyue has indeed been cute from childhood to adulthood, no wonder she’s so likeable.”
Hearing these words, Yi Wanyue looked over at Qiu Baiyu.
They were sitting on the carpet, leaning against the sofa, their eyes meeting.
Yi Wanyue raised her hand to prop up her temple, gazing intently at Qiu Baiyu, and said very directly: “Am I likeable to our Baiyu too?”
This move caught Qiu Baiyu off guard.
She unconsciously began to guess in her heart what kind of “like” was being referred to.
Friendship? Or love?
Could it be love?
But one shouldn’t be too narcissistic. What if I think it is, but she doesn’t mean it that way? Wouldn’t that be very awkward? How could this friendship continue then?
“Mm, I like you too,” Qiu Baiyu answered.
Regardless of which kind of “like” Yi Wanyue meant, her answer encompassed both.
She liked being her friendโฆ and also liked her.
This answer made Yi Wanyue very happy, but not entirely happy.
She even wanted to specifically emphasize: it’s romantic love.
But she held back.
Liking someone makes one become timid.
If she were to rush forward recklessly and receive a reciprocal answer, it would naturally be a joyous occasion. But what if she didn’t?
If Qiu Baiyu didn’t like her yet, and she exposed herself completely, how would Qiu Baiyu think of her, how would she face this relationship?
She didn’t want things between them to become silent and awkward.
So the corners of her lips curved slightly, and she only said: “I like Baiyu too.”
At this moment, the phone placed on the table suddenly rang.
It was her phone.
The incoming call screen displayed a familiar contact: Mom.
“I’ll take this call.”
She picked up the phone and stood up to answer it.
“Mom, what’s the matter?”
Qiu Baiyu watched her walk towards the window, leaning against it as she spoke softly with her mother on the other end of the line.
She couldn’t hear what they were saying, so she politely averted her gaze and continued watching the cute little Yi Wanyue on the screen.
Soon, Yi Wanyue came back.
She put down her phone and sat down next to Qiu Baiyu again.
“Jiang Shen’s parents have gone to my house.”
She suddenly said this sentence.
Qiu Baiyu immediately became solemn: “What did they go to your house for?”
Yi Wanyue said carelessly: “To discuss my marriage with Jiang Shen with my mom. They want to arrange a marriage between our two families.”
Qiu Baiyu: “โฆ?”
Yi Wanyue: “My mom didn’t agree. She called to tell me they had been there.”
Qiu Baiyu was instantly relieved: “So that’s how it isโฆ”
Given the Yi family’s status and background, Jiang’s parents would certainly be very willing to have Yi Wanyue as their daughter-in-law, and it’s understandable for them to visit to propose marriage for their son.
Fortunately, Yi Huayu didn’t agree to this matter.
“Will Director Yi interfere with your love life and marriage?” Qiu Baiyu suddenly asked.
Yi Wanyue replied without hesitation: “No.
“She supports our freedom to love, as long as we manage our lives and careers well.”
Getting married was never the purpose of Yi Huayu’s education, otherwise she wouldn’t have chosen to cooperate with the system in the first place.
She doesn’t need her children to marry into a good family in the future; she wants her children to become that “good family.”
Living one’s own life well, managing one’s own affairs, and being one’s own destination is also great.
Qiu Baiyu nodded in understanding.
Freedom in love is good, but she didn’t know if this freedom included same-sex relationships, nor did she know if Yi Wanyue would have such an inclinationโฆ
Qiu Baiyu then curiously asked: “By the way, besides Jiang Shen, you must have other suitors, right? Have they all appeared?”
This book has female supporting characters pursuing the male lead, and male supporting characters pursuing the female lead.
However, they rarely pay attention to the male supporting characters, and Yi Wanyue never mentions these men, as if they had never appeared.
At the mention of men, Yi Wanyue suddenly lost interest.
She turned her head to look at her sister and herself on the screen, her attitude languid: “They’ve appeared, but none of them are interesting.
“They only slow down my piano practice.”
A bunch of men who think they’re deeply passionate and believe women can’t do without them, truly lacking any charm to speak of.
Except for their different personalities, they’re not much different from Jiang Shen; they all fail to interest her.
Qiu Baiyu is better; her Baiyu is good in every way.
Thinking about how the person she likes is right by her side, Yi Wanyue’s mood suddenly brightened considerably.
At this moment, Qiu Baiyu looked at her as if she were looking at an otherworldly person immersed in the art of piano, without desires or demands, uninterested in anything besides the piano.
If they hadn’t kissed, she would have really believed that Yi Wanyue was without desires or demands.
But this is good too; at least she won’t neglect her career because of men.
Women should still have their own careers.
Qiu Baiyu spoke again: “Did Jiang Shen go along with them?”
Hearing this question, Yi Wanyue turned her head to look into Qiu Baiyu’s eyes, then turned back to watch the video playing on the screen, and said: “No.”
In the scene, she and her sister were playing house in the study.
Her sister was sitting behind their mother’s desk, pretending to be a strict and efficient CEO in the company, while she was the vice president responsible for having meetings with her sister. Both of them were acting quite convincingly.
Looking at her sister who was so serious while playing house, she curved her eyes, full of smiles.
“He probably hasn’t had time to pay attention to these things lately.”
Author is milking this way too much at this point haha.
i kept thinking that this writing style feels similar to the one and only “She is the protagonist” novel, so i checked the author for these two novels and found out it’s indeed from the same author
i knew it!!!!
her novels are just *chef’s kiss*
she’s just know how to write comedic powerful and empowering female leads perfectly
Man no wonder this is so good and I kept thinking about that series, no joke I was just thinking I should go back and reread that while reading this chapter haha.
Author always does this “does she like me” stuff and keeps it going for a little too long though haha, though this one is the worst it’s felt.
Thanks for the chapter!
