    Chapter Index

Morning sunlight reflected in the Alpha’s eyes, brimming with honeyed affection: “Zhizhi, morning~”

Returning to the Fu residence, it was already one in the morning.

Fu Chaoyun walked over; the light in Fu Lingfeng’s study was still on.

Madam Fu spends all day dating and doing nothing; poor Little President Fu has to work overtime late into the night even on weekends, with absolutely no marital life.

    Knock knock.

“You go to sleep first, don’t worry about me.” Fu Lingfeng’s voice came from inside the room. Perhaps because it was late and she was tired, it actually held a hint of softness.

Fu Chaoyun paused, realizing the other person thought she was her Saozi1, Wen Wan, she immediately spoke up.

    “It’s me.”

There was a moment of silence inside.

“Come in.” The voice turned cold.

    “…”

Fu Chaoyun sighed. Talk about differential treatment!

Fu Chaoyun went in. Fu Lingfeng seemed to be in some kind of international conference call. She first gave her younger sister a gesture to be quiet, then waited for about ten minutes or so, and the meeting, already winding down, finally ended.

Fu Lingfeng turned around. Her face, bearing some resemblance to Fu Chaoyun’s, was revealed in the light, but her aura2 was completely different, unmistakable.

    As soon as she spoke.

“You didn’t bring back those nephews and nieces of mine (the goldfishes)? Wanwan3 specially prepared red envelopes for them; don’t they want the first-meeting gifts4?”

    “…”

Fu Chaoyun’s mouth twitched. She thought, Incredible, even the most serious person in the family, Fu Lingfeng, is teasing me now.

“I left them at another apartment.” Fu Chaoyun replied, then added, “Did you watch the livestream?”

“No, but Dad and Wanwan both mentioned it.”

“Little President Fu attends to a myriad of affairs every day5.”

Fu Lingfeng ignored this insincere flattery6, “Then where is the younger sister-in-law you said you were bringing home for the family?”

    “…”

Really hitting where it hurts with every word,7 and just because she’d gone against her a few times recently. Fu Chaoyun could only say again,

    “I still need some time.”

Fu Lingfeng’s gaze fell on her younger sister. As a married person, she could naturally tell that Fu Chaoyun had used inhibitors, and when would an Alpha need to use inhibitors…

Fu Lingfeng looked away again. Given that Fu Chaoyun had been behaving well recently, in the end, she only said lightly, “Mind your own limits.”

    She then asked, “Anything else?”

Fu Chaoyun was silent for a moment. “I want to ask about some things from my past.”

“Want to hear about what a jerk8 you used to be? Or has your brain stopped working properly again?” Fu Lingfeng truly inherited Madam Fu’s ways9, hitting from all angles; as soon as she opened her mouth, she was the same old sharp tongue10.

Fortunately, after being tempered and polished11 by Madam Fu during this period, coupled with Fu Chaoyun’s own thick skin12, these words couldn’t hurt her. She just twitched her lips, but she once again caught the key point.

    “…Again?”

Fu Lingfeng glanced at her. “You were reasonably smart as a child, at least not as stupid as you are now, nor as annoying. Later, in your second year of high school, you went riding with someone, fell off a horse, hit your head, and started being stupid.”

    Fu Chaoyun frowned.

According to the System’s account, she had transmigrated here. What was clearest in her mind now was the plot, followed by the memories of the Scumbag Alpha’s debauchery13. But strangely, just like her memories from before transmigration, she hadn’t completely inherited the original Scumbag Alpha’s memories either; a large portion from earlier on always seemed somewhat blurry and indistinct.

Now that Fu Lingfeng mentioned it, it really did seem that the second year of high school for this body was the watershed moment14.

In the memories that were relatively clear, the Scumbag Alpha wasn’t close to her original family. Her best friend, Zhao Yujun, wasn’t an important character in the plot; she had very few scenes, and not much ink was spent on her15. But equally strange, the people she interacted with most after transmigrating were these very individuals. There were some gaps in her memory regarding them, yet she got along with them like a fish in water16, handling interactions with ease17.

The System explained it was because she was the original owner of this body, so there was naturally a bond of blood kinship.

    But what about Zhao Yujun?

As a friend, Zhao Yujun had no blood ties, yet her interactions with her were also extremely familiar.

    This didn’t make sense.

This layer of memory being deliberately blurred only further proved something was hidden within. Fu Chaoyun tried hard to dig into the memories left by the Scumbag Alpha, especially digging further back, when suddenly her head started to ache.

It wasn’t the dull ache from lack of energy or poor sleep, it was as if a needle was piercing her mind, blocking all her memories. The slightest thought brought a sharp, stabbing pain, yet it couldn’t be pulled out.

    【What’s wrong?!】

Even the System, which had been playing dead, was startled awake. It reviewed the preceding events and couldn’t help but exclaim!

    【Are you crazy!!】

【Why are you suddenly asking about these things? Although you are the original body’s owner, the one who lived with your family for over twenty years was always the Scumbag Alpha! If they find out the core18 inside their second daughter has been swapped, it’ll be disastrous!】

【If you have any questions, just ask me!!!】

If I asked you, would you tell me?

    Probably just another ‘Insufficient permissions’.

Fu Chaoyun thought, then replied to the System in her consciousness, “Then let them find out. Coincidentally, I don’t particularly feel like living anymore anyway.”

The System was stunned: 【What’s wrong now?!】

“Lovesick.” Fu Chaoyun said listlessly, “Didn’t you say that after tonight, Pei Xuezhi and I would reach a BE? I figure, since it’s already like this, anything else is pretty meaningless.”

    【…】

The System vaguely felt like it was watching an idol drama bleeding into reality. What kind of ‘driven mad by love’19 crazy persona20 was this?

It touched upon Fu Chaoyun’s emotions, landing precisely in the area Fu Chaoyun had deliberately manufactured for it to see. There was indeed a sense of having nothing left to live for.

Fu Chaoyun is… She can’t have anything happen to her, ahhh!

【Calm down!】 the System immediately yelled, 【We still have ways to fix this! Besides, Pei Xuezhi doesn’t completely hate you. Even though you temporarily marked her, as long as we perfect the technique, there will be plenty of chances to reverse it later!】

    “Oh.”

    【Believe in yourself!】

The System was trying hard to encourage her21, when it was suddenly interrupted by Fu Chaoyun.

“I suddenly realized, when I’m messing around22 with Pei Xuezhi, you don’t seem to have any particularly strong objections?”

    【…】

“At most, just verbal warnings. But are verbal warnings useful? As a System, you can even control my body; shouldn’t there be more severe punitive measures, like electrocution, or perhaps erasure?” Fu Chaoyun listed them nonchalantly23.

The System stammered, 【We are a proper System, besides which… who would wish harm upon themselves?】

    “True.”

Fu Chaoyun chuckled, then said, “Actually, I was wondering if there’s a possibility… that you actually know my personality very well, and kept emphasizing that I mustn’t develop feelings for Pei Xuezhi precisely because you hoped I’d develop rebellious feelings and thus pursue her?”

    【Ahhh! Don’t casually slander the System, ao~!】

    “Just kidding.”

Various speculations were raised, but in the end, Fu Chaoyun brushed them all aside lightly24, as if she really only meant to scare the once arrogant25 System, and she murmured softly.

“Anyone would know just by thinking about it, how could that be possible… After all, I’m not the Daughter of Heaven’s Mandate26, not anyone important…”

The System tensed up at first, but this time, it managed not to show anything, because it was still monitoring Fu Chaoyun’s emotions on its end. Seeing that she had indeed stopped pursuing the matter, it finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But it didn’t dare say anything more, afraid of revealing its slip-up27.

Meanwhile, Fu Lingfeng saw Fu Chaoyun looking down, silent for a long time, and asked, “Forgotten everything?”

“Mm… Just recalling what a jerk I was back then.”

Fu Lingfeng glanced at her, finally said lightly, “If you’ve forgotten, then let it be forgotten. Although you’re not exactly likable now either, at least you’re slightly better than before.”

Fu Lingfeng still remembered, her younger sister before the second year of high school, while somewhat rowdy, was generally sensible. She herself had even helped her in a fight once. Later… she couldn’t be bothered to recall what happened later.

Their parents didn’t say it aloud, but they were quite happy to see her change back now.

But why hadn’t they mentioned it in the past? Why hadn’t doubts arisen? And back then… what was it like back then?

Fu Lingfeng frowned slightly. She had always been outstanding, with an exceptional memory, but now, when she tried to recall, various past events also became blurry in her mind.

“Since you put it that way—” Fu Chaoyun suddenly raised her voice, “Can I not go to work tomorrow then?”

Fu Lingfeng shot her a cold glance.

“You’re already married, but I’m still a lonely soul28. I need to chase my wife29!” Fu Chaoyun’s reasoning was ample.

“How long have you been chasing her, and you still haven’t caught her!”

“Can’t be helped.” Fu Chaoyun spread her hands. “Great beauties are always hard to pursue. Isn’t this all for the sake of raising the family’s average IQ?”

This time, it was Fu Lingfeng’s turn for her mouth to twitch slightly.

    “Raising yours is enough.”

She stared at Fu Chaoyun for another moment, then finally lowered her head.

    “Only half a day.”

    “Yay~!”

    The next day, early morning.

As soon as Pei Xuezhi opened the door, she saw Fu Chaoyun waiting right outside her doorstep.

The winding stairwell of the old-style residential complex had no glass enclosure, and the faint morning sunlight filtered in through the openwork sections, shining on Fu Chaoyun’s fair and delicate cheeks. She blinked, her eyelashes trembling; it was as if those feathery lashes were plated with a layer of brilliant Gilt Gold30, which also made her amber eyes appear even warmer and more affectionate.

The little cat, Nao Nao, was also up early.

Just yesterday it had been held in Pei Xuezhi’s arms, now, seeing the actual person31, it quickly slipped out through the crack in the door, jumped onto the Alpha, and meowed coquettishly.

    Little traitor.32

Fu Chaoyun rua’d it a couple of times, her eyes full of warmth. She really only stroked it two or three times, then immediately placed the cat back into Pei Xuezhi’s hands. Even though Nao Nao looked back reluctantly, meowing, it didn’t make her change her actions at all.

    She still remembered yesterday’s words.

    Are they making up again?

Pei Xuezhi took the cat, looked at Fu Chaoyun, and after just a moment’s thought, had already decided to follow yesterday’s script and continue acting, but then she saw the Alpha’s eyes curve into a gentle smile.

The flowing honeyed affection seeped directly into the very tip of one’s heart33.

    “Zhizhi, morning~”

—No matter what happened, she was always the same as ever, unchanged by anything.

The author has something to say:

Still a long way from the ending, we’re at 400k words34, it’s about time to reveal a little bit of the ‘book transmigration’ truth. Still focusing on the relationship line first, then other things. Goodnight everyone la~ w

Soooo the day she hit her head the OG FC (Fu Chaoyun) “died” and transmigrated into the other world and the scumbag replaced her?? And then when PX ( Pei Xuezhi) regressed and the world turned back time, the OG FC was placed back in her OG world? I’m way too stupid for the plot and incoming plot twist 😭🥲

I can’t wait to know the truth, I wonder If there will be a point where Fu Chaoyun would be forcefully be put to her own world again? Or the current world right now is really hers?

    Note
