    Chapter Index

Pei Xuezhi’s hand rests on Fu Chaoyun’s head: “…I like it.”

The black silk-like hair flowed through her fingers, Fu Chaoyun gently grasped two strands, holding them captive.

    Making them unable to escape.

Pei Xuezhi looked at the person opposite her, then suddenly glanced outside.

“Jiejie, we haven’t reached the highest point yet.”

The beautiful Alpha tilted her head, also looking at her, “…Mm?”

    Suddenly.

Pei Xuezhi’s palm came to rest on Fu Chaoyun’s hand, the temperature of a human’s hand being slightly cool. As she covered it, warming the other person while firmly covering the camera.

The Ferris wheel was slowly approaching its highest point.

Pei Xuezhi’s eyes closed then opened, she let out a light breath, seeming to finally accept certain “earth dog” [土狗 | tǔ gǒu | meaning unsophisticated or unrefined] behaviors.

    “Let’s try then.”

She said, her other hand moving to embrace Fu Chaoyun’s waist. At some point, Fu Chaoyun’s hand had also moved downward, coming to rest at the curve of Pei Xuezhi’s waist.

They remained thus, one hand joined, one hand at each other’s vital points, their eyes – different in expression yet equally beautiful – simultaneously reflecting each other’s image.

    Then.

It was Pei Xuezhi who actively lowered her head, soft warm lips pressing against the other’s once more, neither closing their eyes, even able to see the finest down on each other’s faces.

Once again a dragonfly touching water, utterly pure.

But Fu Chaoyun was prepared this time. Just as Pei Xuezhi was about to withdraw, her hand – which had retreated at some unknown moment – suddenly pressed against the other’s head.

In an instant, carrying the rich scent of red wine, the Alpha’s predatory nature surged forward, as if wanting to devour the prey before her whole.

    Pei Xuezhi’s pupils contracted slightly.

Yet what finally landed on her lips was just a gentle touch, that person’s scarlet tongue-tip lightly grazing her lip’s flesh.

Perhaps “licking” wasn’t even the right word – “nuzzling” would be more appropriate.

Though seemingly full of aggression, when it finally fell upon her, it always transformed into the gentlest touch.

    A feeling of being treasured.

    In that moment.

Pei Xuezhi’s breathing quickened, the ice-cold beauty continuously warming up. At the highest point, bang— fireworks exploded outside the window.

“Looks like we’re quite lucky, what perfect timing~”

Fu Chaoyun had withdrawn slightly, her gaze falling on the scene outside. The earlier sense of dangerous pressure had completely faded, leaving only warmth in this space.

    She laughed softly.

Her amber glass-like eyes revealed hints of playfulness. Facing the blooming fireworks filling the sky, she turned her head slightly, once again taking in Pei Xuezhi’s current appearance.

    “It’s beautiful, isn’t it, Zhizhi?”

Pei Xuezhi just stared steadily at her. The temperature from the tongue-tip was slightly higher than from the lips, which should have gradually dissipated, but perhaps because of the sealed windows and doors, not only did she not feel cooler, but rather like a spark.

Splashing onto her lips, instantly like oil poured on raging flames, burning into a blazing inferno, consuming from outside to within, finally devouring her whole.

Pei Xuezhi’s hair tie had just been pulled away by Fu Chaoyun, her long hair now cascading down. One who should have been like an otherworldly maiden free of desires, now had slightly parted red lips, her black eyes flickering with unclear emotions, finally tainted by the seven emotions and six desires of the mortal world.

She had always compared Fu Chaoyun to spirits and alluring ghosts, but now, wasn’t she herself the same in others’ eyes?

Fu Chaoyun helped brush away the long hair that had fallen on Pei Xuezhi’s cheeks, only to hear a soft laugh from the other.

She tilted slightly, in her pitch-black eyes, the fireworks’ glow, the night’s stars, and even the Alpha opposite her… each claiming an equal share.

    “Indeed.”

Pei Xuezhi’s gaze rested somewhere unknown as she softly said, “The moonlight is beautiful tonight.” [月色真漂亮 | yuè sè zhēn piào liang | a subtle way of expressing love, referencing a famous Japanese literary quote]

A Ferris wheel rotation takes about ten minutes.

Everyone came down from above. Qi Changfeng’s group of three had been together all day without gaining any advantage, and now they stared at Fu Chaoyun and Pei Xuezhi.

“The atmosphere between you two isn’t right… so what happened that I don’t know about?!”

Though Qi Changfeng usually had thick nerves [神经大条 | shén jīng dà tiáo | idiom meaning insensitive or slow to catch on], when it came to learning opportunities, he was particularly sensitive.

These two had been clingy before going up, but became somewhat distant after coming down—clearly hiding something!

    【Qi Changfeng, you’re speaking my mind!】

【The camera’s gone black twice today, these two are just lawless now, aren’t they?!】

【At least there was sound this time… tired of this, whatever.】

    【Ship it! Ship them all!】

【It’s easier to imagine things when there’s no camera footage ahhh!】

After his mention, others also turned to look.

Pei Xuezhi was always a person of few words, while Fu Chaoyun swept a glance over, “What are you talking about?”

Qi Changfeng extended one hand, raising two fingers.

    Fu Chaoyun: “…Mm?”

However, he then turned his hand over, making a gesture of dropping to his knees [扑通跪下 | pū tōng guì xià | describing the sound and action of suddenly kneeling], “Teacher Fu, please start the lessons! I’m willing to pay tuition!!”

    “……”

Xia Shiyi thought for a moment, still following his love rival’s lead, “I’d like to sign up for a session too.”

    “……”

Without waiting for Fu Chaoyun to speak, Qi Changfeng glared back, “What business is it of yours? Like a lingering ghost! Copycat!”

Soon, the two began quarreling directly, bypassing Fu Chaoyun entirely, while Pei Xuezhi pulled Fu Chaoyun away quietly.

The night wind was slightly cool, finally unlike the scorching heat of daytime. As they walked, Pei Xuezhi noticed that Fu Chaoyun, whom she was leading, had stopped moving.

Looking back, the Alpha was staring at a passing child’s… balloon.

    “……”

Pei Xuezhi was silent for a moment before asking, “Want one?”

Fu Chaoyun immediately snapped back to attention, nodding, her eyes sparkling.

Pei Xuezhi naturally couldn’t refuse such eyes.

“Wait for me a moment.” Before leaving, she added another caring reminder, “Stay here, don’t wander off.”

Fu Chaoyun’s head nodded extremely quickly.

【Childish wifey, buy it for her, buy it!】

【Really envious of Pei Xuezhi, hasn’t even gotten a wife yet but can already experience being a mother…】

    【Pfft!】

Pei Xuezhi found the balloon-selling spot. With her cold and elegant temperament, she seemed out of place standing among the group of parents, and no children dared approach.

Pei Xuezhi just stood in line.

    “Jiejie.”

Suddenly someone called her. Pei Xuezhi looked down to see the little girl whose face she had wiped earlier that day – what a coincidence.

“What is it?” Pei Xuezhi bent down slightly, “Where are your parents?”

    “Over there.”

The child pointed in a direction where a lady was on the phone, appearing quite busy. Noticing the gaze, she looked up and nodded to her.

It seemed she already knew about the incident from earlier today.

Confirming that the child had someone watching over her, Pei Xuezhi felt somewhat relieved. She actually didn’t like children, yet couldn’t ignore a crying child. Now, faced with the child’s soft and trusting gaze…

Lost in some thought, Pei Xuezhi reached out and patted the child’s head.

“Alright, you’ve said hello, now go back to your mother.”

“She just came to find you. Don’t worry, what could happen with me watching?” Pei Xuezhi turned her head at these words, seeing it was that somewhat capable, cocky little boy from earlier today.

    “Finally noticed me!”

He said somewhat angrily, then seeming to feel this was too obvious, turned his head with a cool attitude, but his words gave him away.

“Um… are you buying a balloon for that whatever-her-name-is from earlier today?”

    “Mm.”

“Jiejie wants a balloon?” The little girl heard this and, though somewhat reluctant, still held out her pink Hello Kitty balloon, “Then take this one.”

The little girl clearly loved it, but Pei Xuezhi shook her head, “No need, this is yours. I can buy my own.”

“I don’t want it anymore, Jiejie take it.”

The little girl was very stubborn, but finally the little boy spoke up, “Dummy, yours is too childish. That what’s-her-name is so fierce, she definitely wouldn’t like pink kitties!”

While speaking, he pointed at the balloon stand, “That green one, the Hulk one, it’s super cool! She’s so fierce, she’ll definitely like that!!”

    “Is that so?”

The little girl seemed half-understanding, looking at Pei Xuezhi again.

Pei Xuezhi also saw that muscular Hulk balloon. She fell silent for a moment, thinking that certain childish Alpha probably wouldn’t like it. Seeing such a large mass of dark green, she might even… cry?

Though she might be cute when crying, when it was Pei Xuezhi’s turn in line, she still chose an orange cat balloon.

The kitty balloon’s head was puffed up, with two pointy ears, very cute.

Makes one want to pat it.

The little girl exclaimed, “Wow! The kitty is cute, Jiejie has good taste just like me.”

The little boy was very dissatisfied that his suggestion was rejected, “Why did you still choose such a cute one? I told you Alphas like more masculine things, even I, a future Alpha, gave you advice…”

Pei Xuezhi pulled the balloon’s string, bringing the cat down, touched its ears – slightly hard, not having the satisfying feel she had imagined.

Then she looked at the little boy, “When you have someone you want to give a balloon to in the future, you can also choose what you like.”

Pei Xuezhi felt she had been influenced by Fu Chaoyun; normally, she wouldn’t bother arguing with children, let alone say so much.

The little boy paused, “That’s true.”

He just had a lively personality, giving what he thought was the best advice, without any ill intent.

Looking up at Pei Xuezhi again.

“You and that what’s-her-name are really friends after all, both actually so fierce…”

Pei Xuezhi smiled faintly, “Thank you.”

Then she patted the little girl’s head again, telling them to quickly return to their families, and bid farewell.

The little girl only felt that Jiejie’s hand was fragrant and soft, while the little boy still stood there puzzled.

“What was she thanking me for just now? Ahhh, the adult world is so hard to understand!”

Pei Xuezhi returned carrying the balloon, only to find that Fu Chaoyun, who had been ordered not to wander off, was gone again.

    Pei Xuezhi: “……”

How could someone get lost in such a short time? What kind of oversized child is this?!

Finally, with the cameraman’s indication, she found the lost grown-up Fu Chaoyun near some landscaping under a streetlight.

This spot had few people around. The Alpha was crouching there, the streetlight’s warm orange glow falling down, sketching her facial features particularly soft, and in front of her was a little cat.

The kitten sat with its bottom on the ground, upper body propped up, and by coincidence, it was orange too.

“Fu Chaoyun.” Pei Xuezhi called her.

    “Zhizhi?”

Hearing the voice, Fu Chaoyun looked up, seeing the balloon in Pei Xuezhi’s hand. They hadn’t communicated at all about what balloon to buy, but her eyes crinkled with a smile.

    “What a coincidence.”

Fu Chaoyun’s hand rested on the cat’s head, gently stroking it. The cat was either brave or Fu Chaoyun had some cat-attracting talent, as it stayed crouching there, allowing Fu Chaoyun’s various pats, occasionally letting out adorable meows.

    Such a little charmer.

Pei Xuezhi had walked to her side, looking at the cat, then at the large child-like person.

    “Like cats?”

“Mm.” The Alpha, currently petting the kitten, had gentle eyes, perhaps too gentle.

It was obvious she thoroughly enjoyed this tender moment.

“If you like them so much, why haven’t you kept one yourself?”

“Can’t,” Fu Chaoyun said regretfully, “My father is allergic to cat fur, so we can’t keep any.”

In her memories, both her original self and sister quite liked small animals, but Father Gu was allergic to all animal fur. Madam Fu had always been strict, depriving the two children of the right to raise pets from childhood.

After thinking, Fu Chaoyun added, “I’ve never kept one, but they say cats are very troublesome to raise. I might just be like Ye Gong who claimed to love dragons [叶公好龙 | yè gōng hào lóng | idiom about only liking something in theory]. If I actually raised one, I probably couldn’t handle it. Being able to pet street cats like this already makes me very happy…”

At some point, Pei Xuezhi had crouched down beside Fu Chaoyun, listening carefully to her words.

    A moment later.

Fu Chaoyun felt her other hand being taken, then a string was placed in it, that person’s palm enveloping hers, gradually helping her fingers close around it.

Fu Chaoyun turned from petting the cat to look at the person beside her.

Pei Xuezhi’s expression remained completely calm. Her hair, which Fu Chaoyun had undone during the Ferris wheel ride, hadn’t been tied back since it wasn’t too hot. It still hung loose, stirring in the evening breeze.

    Strand by strand, particularly enchanting.

“The cat,” Pei Xuezhi said, “is for you.”

Fu Chaoyun froze, accepting the orange cat balloon from Pei Xuezhi, then smiled with curved eyes.

“Thank you Zhizhi, Zhizhi is the best.”

Now the Alpha held the cat balloon in one hand while petting the real cat with the other, and asked Pei Xuezhi, “Then what about Zhizhi? Does Zhizhi like cats?”

    Does she like them?

Pei Xuezhi seemed to be thinking. After a while with no response, Fu Chaoyun made another request, “She’s super well-behaved, Zhizhi come pet her too!”

    “Alright.”

    Pei Xuezhi agreed.

The two childishly crouched by the roadside like little kids. Pei Xuezhi reached out as if to pet the cat, but her hand turned, touching Fu Chaoyun’s hair ends instead, climbing upward, giving just a gentle tug.

The goose-yellow hair tie she had personally tied earlier came loose, like a replay of the earlier Ferris wheel scene. That thick mane of hair instantly cascaded down, flowing through Pei Xuezhi’s fingertips and spilling everywhere.

The pure high school girl instantly transformed into a beautiful enchantress in the night.

Pei Xuezhi’s palm rested on Fu Chaoyun’s head, gently stroking back and forth, as if there really were horns or ears there.

She had just touched the balloon cat’s ears, filled with hydrogen, puffy and somewhat hard; she hadn’t yet felt what real cat ears were like.

But Pei Xuezhi felt that this beautiful kitty’s texture right now was the best.

    Cats?

    Naturally—

Pei Xuezhi’s voice was soft, “…I like them.”

Another pat, and under Fu Chaoyun’s somewhat dazed gaze, she tilted her head slightly, appearing rather cute, while the wind caught both their long hair, intertwining them together.

The streetlight, along with moonlight and stars, reflected in Pei Xuezhi’s eyes as if stars were rippling within. She smiled.

“Hm? Am I not petting correctly?… Why isn’t the kitty meowing?”

The author has something to say:

    Let’s have something heartwarming today~

    【A brief off-topic explanation】(can be too long; didn’t read)

Because this story has ABO elements, and it’s the most classic AO romance, I wrote it following the most common A-dominant approach.

The perspective marked indicates the main dominant role (I would have marked and explained switch if there was even one instance), and throughout the story until now, I haven’t given any warnings about switching or versatile roles. I saw the comments in Chapter 58 requesting switch roles, from more than one dear reader, but I don’t know if other readers – the silent majority – might actually dislike this, so I’m staying consistent and won’t include any switching or versatile roles, including in extras and Weibo posts. I can only apologize to some dear readers, but there really won’t be any.

However, there will be mutual marking, and topping, which is actually quite spicy too~

Personally, for stories with ABO elements and normal AO relationships, I write with a fixed dominant role without switching. For stories without ABO elements, they’re all versatile. Other works in my column basically follow this pattern.
