Fu Lingfeng x Wen Wan ③
“Fu Lingfeng, you’re a f#cking idiot! A pure one!!!”
The Alpha’s gaze was dark.
“Don’t say those two words,” Fu Lingfeng said.
She clearly didn’t believe what Wen Wan said about divorce. She thought the other woman was joking, or even just throwing a tantrum. She even had the presence of mind to lecture her.
Fu Lingfeng couldn’t think of any possible reason why Wen Wan would ask for a divorce.
At most, it was because she had been busy with work recently and had spent less time with her wife. But she was done with work and back now, and had even come to pick her up personally. The worst that could happen was that she would take some time off later to accompany her more, making up for the lost time.
Was there a need to be so petty?
Wen Wan was still smiling.
In that instant, she seemed to understand Fu Lingfeng’s inner thoughts—after sharing a bed for five years, she still understood her to some extent.
This Alpha appeared strong and proud on the outside, and her heart was the same, if not more so.
She had never seen her bow her head. Or rather, even when the other woman lowered her head to speak to her, her heart was still high up in the clouds.
She was used to it.
But this time, she wouldn’t indulge her anymore.
And so, Wen Wan once again avoided Fu Lingfeng’s outstretched hand, her tone gentle yet clear. “Fu Lingfeng, I’m serious.”
She wasn’t joking with her.
She wanted to say it, so she would. She no longer wanted to be Fu Lingfeng’s wife; the other woman had no control over her anymore.
Twice in a row, the Omega had called the Alpha by her full name.
It was very formal, and very distant.
It instantly drew a clear line between the two of them, creating an uncrossable chasm in the middle.
Fu Lingfeng was still looking at her.
The Alpha’s eyes were dark and gloomy, yet she seemed unable to comprehend what was happening.
“What did you say?” she asked.
Her sleep-deprived brain suddenly began to throb with a sharp pain. The scene before her remained the same, yet Wen Wan, standing there, seemed to be very far away, gradually blurring. Even her ears started to ring.
But even so, Wen Wan’s voice still came through clearly—
“I said, let’s get a divorce.”
“Let me go.”
And let yourself go, too.
Her consciousness snapped back in an instant.
“I refuse!” Her voice was extremely fierce.
As the words fell, Fu Lingfeng’s body moved faster than her mind, grabbing Wen Wan’s wrist and gripping it tightly.
The Omega’s wrist was delicate and smooth, beautiful in every aspect. In a moment of leisure, admiring it would have been a fine pleasure, but right now, Fu Lingfeng was in no mood for appreciation.
She suppressed the sharp, stabbing pain in her head, trying to soften her tone and reason with her wife.
“I was only a few days late coming back, and I didn’t realize you’d left home right away, but it’s not so serious that we need to talk about divorce, is it?”
“Wen Wan.” She also started using her full name. “If there’s a problem, let’s talk it out properly. Don’t throw a fit.”
Her eyes darkening, she added, “You’ve never been the type to throw petty tantrums.”
Fu Lingfeng thought her words were rational and objective, but to her surprise, Wen Wan was furious after hearing them.
She had been suppressing her emotions, trying to speak to the other woman civilly. After all, they had been a couple for many years, and she didn’t want to make things too ugly.
Fu Lingfeng usually paid her no mind, her attitude always detached, even when she came home to this wife of hers in name only. But the moment divorce was mentioned, all these intense reactions came out.
Was she protecting her pride1 as an Alpha, or was it a tacit admission that she had long since considered Wen Wan her property?
There was only the logic of her tossing things aside and ignoring them, never of an object rising up to directly force an emotional response from her.
Besides—
A fit?
She actually said she was throwing a fit???
That’s right.
As Fu Lingfeng’s wife, “Wen Wan” was never the type to throw petty tantrums, because she knew that even if she did, no one would care. It might even make people dislike her.
But in this moment, Wen Wan’s suppressed emotions erupted.
“I left alone without explaining it to anyone, but even if you were abroad, even if you just took a moment out of your busy schedule to call me, would it have taken you ten days to find out?”
“I’m not the type to throw petty tantrums. Is that who I really am, or am I just too afraid to be?”
“You think me bringing up divorce is being unreasonable, that I’m just throwing a fit. What? Are the words ‘divorce’ something only you, Fu Lingfeng, are allowed to say?”
“…Fine, let’s put that aside for now. I know you hate being disturbed when you’re working. But privately, even though most of the clothes in your closet are black, white, and gray, you actually like ginger yellow and wear it for casual occasions. You don’t seem like a picky eater, but you never touch a single piece of eggplant on the table… See? I know all these things about you. But you, Fu Lingfeng, how much do you know about me?!”
Wen Wan’s questions came one after another, her eyes blazing as if a bright fire was burning within them, instantly engulfing everything.
The Wen Wan in Fu Lingfeng’s memory was always sweet and gentle. When they first started talking, Fu Lingfeng would ask a question, and the other would answer, her replies never too long. Gradually, after being married for a while, it was Wen Wan who took care of her.
Occasionally, she would murmur reminders in her ear like “Eat on time,” or “It’s getting cold, you should add a layer of clothing…” But her tone then was always slow and gentle, her voice soft and delicate.
This Wen Wan, erupting like an active volcano, was someone Fu Lingfeng had never seen before.
Wen Wan was still gentle.
This explosive questioning drained all her energy and emotions. After composing herself, the person standing before Fu Lingfeng was once again that gentle Wen Wan.
The Omega could see there was still light in her own eyes, but her own reflection was gone from them.
She knows.
Fu Lingfeng wanted to speak, but her words were cut off—
“I’m sorry.” Wen Wan’s voice came first, interrupting whatever Fu Lingfeng might have said. The Omega’s attitude was sincere. “Fu Lingfeng, I didn’t want to bring up old scores.”
“I was just—”
See? She’s still her, still that same Wen Wan.
Her tone gradually took on a sob. “I’m just so tired. Being with you is too tiring. Please, let me go.”
Wen Wan’s wrist had been held by Fu Lingfeng the whole time, but now, all they could both feel was a chilling cold.
The arrogant Alpha finally began to reflect. Had her performance in this marriage really been that bad?
All this time, she had thought her marriage was harmonious and happy. Her wife was gentle and tolerant. Compared to other couples who bickered and fought, they had never had a problem, let alone gotten angry with each other.
Today, when she came to pick up Wen Wan and heard the word “divorce” from her lips for the first time, Fu Lingfeng was incredulous. She thought it was a crude joke.
She couldn’t understand, much less accept it. So she asked again, but the answer was always the same—
“Fu Lingfeng, let’s get a divorce.”
It was repeated over and over, like a broken old machine that could make no other sound.
It all happened so suddenly. But why?
Before she could reach a conclusion, before she could even process Wen Wan’s baffling attitude, another, more powerful emotion surged in her heart—panic.
“It’s my fault,” Fu Lingfeng said.
The perpetually strong Alpha made a rare apology, even making a concession. Even her cold, hard voice softened a few degrees. “I didn’t consider your feelings. From now on, I’ll push off some of my work and try to spend as much time with you as possible, to get to know you better. Actually, I do know…”
Fu Lingfeng was no fool. She understood that when the other person was angry, especially someone as good-tempered as Wen Wan, admitting fault was often more effective than explaining.
—So, please don’t get a divorce, okay?
“There’s no need.”
Wen Wan interrupted the Alpha’s self-criticism. Clearly, she wasn’t buying it. A gentle smile returned to her face. “It’s not necessary anymore.”
It was beautiful.
Fu Lingfeng finally understood what that smile—the one that had made the maids feel unusually at ease when Wen Wan left that day—was like.
—It was just like this. Gentle, relieved, no longer holding onto anything, having let everything go.
And likewise, it no longer belonged to Fu Lingfeng.
The proud Alpha lowered her head and continued her placating words. Perhaps fearing Wen Wan would react badly, she finally released her wrist. But no matter how Wen Wan interrupted or refused her, she wouldn’t stop. Helpless, Wen Wan was forced to listen.
How strange.
In the past, these nagging words would have come from her mouth, but now Fu Lingfeng was the one saying them. She had become the one wasting the other’s affection. This role reversal was certainly something else.
But after listening to just a few sentences, Wen Wan started to feel impatient again.
Right.
Everything she once yearned for was no longer needed.
It was just like her emotional journey. The first few days after leaving the Fu residence and moving here had been truly difficult. But once the adjustment period passed and she realized she had truly walked away, truly escaped that circle, the moments of happiness seemed to far outnumber the moments of sorrow.
Now, the Alpha lowered her noble head. “Wanwan, give me another chance—”
Wen Wan suddenly didn’t want to listen anymore.
She chose to interrupt, “Then how do you plan to handle Miss Jiang?”
Fu Lingfeng paused. “What does this have to do with her?”
These past few days, Fu Lingfeng kept hearing that name. It was truly annoying. Now that Wen Wan brought it up again, she replied subconsciously.
Fu Lingfeng genuinely didn’t understand how this person had gotten involved in her divorce proceedings.
However, in Wen Wan’s eyes, this hesitation was an admission.
As expected.
Her already silent and sealed heart sank a little further. On her face, Wen Wan smiled again.
“She’s coming back to the country. Your first love, your white moonlight, is about to rekindle your past romance. Isn’t it good that I’m tactfully making way for her in advance?”
Wen Wan looked at her, her tone light, gentle, and sincere. “It’s clearly a happy ending for everyone.”
Until now, the ringing in Fu Lingfeng’s head had never stopped. But now, she finally realized a clue in Wen Wan’s request for divorce that she had been ignoring.
Or rather, the key.
After untangling the threads, Fu Lingfeng asked in return, “You think it’s because of her?”
If it was because of that person, then things would be easier to handle.
Although it was a bit cruel, putting two and two together, Wen Wan’s reason for asking for a divorce was, at its core, because she cared about her. Cared enough.
And as long as it was proven that Wen Wan still had her in her heart, the situation could still be turned around, as long as she solved all the problems.
Thinking of this, the perpetually tense Fu Lingfeng showed a rare hint of relaxation. “My relationship with her isn’t what you think—”
“And what is it that I think?”
Wen Wan interrupted again, her gaze locked on Fu Lingfeng’s eyes, somehow deeper and heavier than the Alpha’s. She suddenly exploded, hysterical, her voice so sharp it nearly pierced their eardrums.
“The point is that everyone thinks you’re in that kind of relationship!”
Fu Lingfeng’s brows knitted together.
Wen Wan turned around, her back to her.
Forget it. It doesn’t matter anymore. Just as I said, I’ve already decided to leave. As for who fills the empty position, Miss Jiang, Miss Li… the title of “Fu Lingfeng’s wife” will belong to someone else in the future.
“Wanwan…”
Fu Lingfeng called from behind, her voice tinged with hoarseness and a desperate plea. Wen Wan composed herself and turned around again.
“Miss Fu, let’s divorce. Let me go.”
This time, she wasn’t smiling as she spoke. As she talked, tears rolled down from her beautiful eyes, but the eyes washed by her tears were so clear and bright, like the sky after a rain.
“I wish you both happiness.”
Fu Lingfeng returned empty-handed.
Perhaps it was due to physical exhaustion; perhaps she felt that the current Wen Wan was so different that communication was impossible, and decided to wait until they both calmed down; or maybe she just didn’t care—she had offered an olive branch, tried to coax her, and if Wen Wan wouldn’t take it, both of them would lose face.
In any case, Fu Lingfeng left, leaving Wen Wan in the courtyard garden, waiting for her divorce papers.
After crying, Wen Wan’s mood improved a lot, just like it did on all those other nights.
Now, she sat on the swing in the courtyard. The Omega lowered her head, her left hand gently stroking her own belly.
Just now, while arguing with Fu Lingfeng, she had intentionally controlled herself not to make this gesture.
After days of indecision, she had finally decided to keep the child.
She couldn’t quite say why she was doing it. To keep a memento?
To insist on keeping their child even though we’re divorcing… what an ugly way to act. Is she planning to disturb her quiet life in the future? Definitely! Saying she wishes them well but not meaning it in her heart at all, what false magnanimity! Clinging on like this is so disgusting…
She had heard too much of this kind of malicious talk over the years. Even now, with no one whispering in her ear, Wen Wan could imagine the tone in which those people would say these words, sentence by sentence.
No, that’s not it.
She thought, perhaps she simply wanted a child, a child connected to her by blood, a bond that could support her in the future, even after she had abandoned her former Alpha and family.
After the baby is born, it will be her child, hers alone, with nothing to do with Fu Lingfeng.
She would go far, far away, so Fu Lingfeng would never know. And in the future, she would not tell the child about her other biological mother, nor let the child disturb the other’s life.
Perhaps because her focus had successfully shifted, Wen Wan cared a great deal about this child now, even more than she cared about Fu Lingfeng herself, the other half of the child’s bloodline.
Earlier, during her conversation with Fu Lingfeng, she had suddenly erupted, even bringing up the painful existence of that other person, all as a way to divert the Alpha’s attention.
To prevent her from noticing the child’s existence, to protect this child.
Now, it seemed that although that person had found her location, she didn’t know about the child.
At least, not for now.
During these days, she hadn’t just been thinking and hiding; she had also erased the traces of her hospital visit, while simultaneously leaving another trail of her whereabouts.
Half and half, letting Fu Lingfeng think she had her completely under control, when in fact that wasn’t the case.
A proud Alpha like her, once she grabbed the little clue Wen Wan had deliberately exposed, wouldn’t bother to check for anything else.
In the other’s eyes, she had never seemed to be a particularly clever person—which was, in fact, true.
It was only at this critical moment, when she wanted to protect this child, that Wen Wan had been clever for a rare change.
In the now-quiet courtyard, Wen Wan stroked her abdomen, gently swinging on the swing.
Her feet would leave the ground from time to time, then tap it again, swaying back and forth. Her gentle eyes squinted, light falling on her fair, delicate cheeks. Her eyelashes trembled, revealing a tranquil beauty as she sat there alone.
In this moment, even the wind was gentle.
Meanwhile, Fu Lingfeng, weary from her journey, returned to the Fu residence.
Wen Wan’s escape plan hadn’t been meticulous; it seemed to be on a whim, and the city she chose wasn’t far. But the round trip still took Fu Lingfeng half a day.
Her body was exhausted to the extreme, but the turmoil in her heart was even worse.
As she approached, she saw Wei Jiaming standing at the main gate like a door god2, craning her neck to look out.
The dark circles under her eyes were still just as heavy. The other woman had probably never left, waiting here the whole time!
Seeing her, Wei Jiaming glanced behind her, suppressing the urge to whistle, and whispered, “Where is she? You didn’t bring her back?”
Fu Lingfeng’s expression grew colder.
A long moment seemed to pass. “She doesn’t… She wants to stay outside for a while longer.”
She wasn’t willing.
“Oh,” Wei Jiaming said sullenly.
In truth, looking at that expression, what was there for Wei Jiaming not to understand? In her heart, she was eating a huge melon, but she had to keep her mouth shut.
But they were friends, after all, so Fu Lingfeng still let her in.
On the way back, Fu Lingfeng had been thinking, constantly thinking.
Wen Wan bringing up divorce was like being suddenly stabbed. At first, it was a sharp pain, which slowly subsided. But just when she thought she was getting used to it, Fu Lingfeng discovered it was a dull knife.
It scraped at her again and again, the pain a slow, dull ache that, once inflicted, would not disappear. And as time went on, it would only grow more painful, and the pain would spread.
It stabbed repeatedly, impossible to ignore.
Fu Lingfeng couldn’t figure it out. So, even though her body and mind were pushed to their limits, and even her cold, proud eyes were bloodshot, she still had no intention of resting.
Even if she just took a short nap to soothe the pain in her head, the moment she closed her eyes, her mind would be filled with Wen Wan’s gentle yet determined voice—
“Fu Lingfeng, let’s get a divorce.”
She couldn’t understand it, and she couldn’t accept it.
Beside her, Wei Jiaming, who had stayed up all night and then insisted on waiting for Fu Lingfeng’s return to watch the show, wasn’t in much better shape. However, though her body was failing, her spirits were high. She even nudged Fu Lingfeng’s arm.
“What happened? Tell me all about it~”
“Are you very experienced?”
“Even if I haven’t eaten pork, I’ve seen a pig run3!” Wei Jiaming, sporting two huge dark circles, puffed out her chest, her spirits high as she guaranteed, “In high school, so-and-so and so-and-so only got together because of my guidance.”
Fu Lingfeng recalled for a moment; it seemed that had happened. She looked at her friend appraisingly.
Wei Jiaming grew even more smug. “I—am good at this!!!”
Might as well… try?
Right now, she was stuck in a dead end, completely unable to find a solution. So, Fu Lingfeng dismissed the household staff, led Wei Jiaming to the study, and told her what happened after she found Wen Wan.
In the process, she subconsciously omitted some parts that were unfavorable to Wen Wan.
Fu Lingfeng had been suppressing things for too long. After narrating rationally and objectively, she even added her personal thoughts, rarely confiding in a third party about her emotional problems.
“At the time, she mentioned… that person. I don’t understand why she thinks that way. I’ve already explained it to her clearly, and I’ve told her before, more than once, not to mind it, that my wife now is her…”
At first, Wei Jiaming managed to control her expression. Then it went from fascinated to gloating, then to confused, then to incredulous. Finally, the way she looked at Fu Lingfeng was utterly bizarre.
As if she were looking at a freak.
“Hold on,” she said. “You really don’t have those kinds of feelings for Jiang Siyu?”
“No,” Fu Lingfeng answered without hesitation.
She was already married, so how could she betray her marriage? If she had had such thoughts back then, she would never have married Wen Wan.
Besides, she had schemed to get this marriage in the first place.
Of course, it wasn’t convenient to tell Wei Jiaming about these latter details, even though she had helped a lot in the process of finding Wen Wan.
“Then why didn’t you say anything!” Wei Jiaming felt like she’d just eaten a rotten melon and said irritably, “And just now, when you mentioned Jiang Siyu, you paused and used ‘that person’ to refer to her!”
“There was no need,” Fu Lingfeng replied. “Too much time has passed. I don’t really remember her name clearly. And besides, Wanwan gets unhappy when she’s mentioned.”
The Alpha’s voice was icy, as it was with strangers, business partners, and friends. Perhaps it only softened slightly when she faced Wen Wan, but that bit of gentleness was too faint, so faint it was hard to discern.
However, the one person who received this special treatment had now thrown it away, no longer wanting it.
!
Wei Jiaming was completely stunned. Now, the way she looked at Fu Lingfeng was no longer like looking at a freak. She was staring at a non-human entity.
Two seconds later, Fu Lingfeng received the profound opinion of this armchair relationship expert.
“Is there something growing in your brain?”
Fu Lingfeng: ?
No.
Three months ago, the Fu Corporation had organized a group physical. The report proved that Fu Lingfeng was extremely healthy in all aspects, even superior in some areas.
“Alright, then let me put it another way…”
Wei Jiaming said seriously, “Are you a f#cking idiot?”
???
Fu Lingfeng, who had been sitting at her desk, her fingertips tapping the surface—an unconscious habit when she was troubled—suddenly froze. The look she shot at her friend grew colder, her eyes laced with shards of ice.
“No, no, no, I misspoke.” Wei Jiaming took back her words, giving a thumbs-up to this model friend, the “other family’s child4” that all their parents had talked about since they were young. But she wasn’t apologizing; she was correcting herself, mocking her.
—This person, sure enough, is not perfect. Whatever you gain in one area, you’re bound to lose something in another.
In the study, Wei Jiaming’s super-loud assessment echoed continuously, the sound lingering in the air, never-ending.
“Fu Lingfeng, you’re a f#cking idiot! A pure one!!!”
The author has something to say:
There will probably be at least two or three more chapters for this arc. My writing gets longer and longer, and I have trouble wrapping things up. It’s always been a problem of mine _(:з”∠)_
