She and Her · Side CP

Fu Lingfeng x Wen Wan ②

“Fu Lingfeng, let’s get a divorce.”

    1

The overseas partnership was a complex and tangled affair. Fu Lingfeng had been abroad for quite some time, and by the time she returned to the country, half a month had already passed.

    “Where is Madam?”

“Madam went back to her parents’ home.”

    “When did she leave?”

“On the third day after the Eldest Young Miss went abroad.”

Her parents were often traveling internationally, and her younger sister had recently started dating, so she came home less and less. With just one person left in such a massive villa, it was truly a bit desolate.

Thinking of this, Fu Lingfeng said, “I’ll go pick her up.”

“Madam will be so happy to see you go and get her the moment you’re back!” the maid praised sweetly.

Fu Lingfeng didn’t say anything as she took the keys. If one looked closely, a hint of a smile seemed to touch her cold, stern face and color her features.

    2

    The Wen family home.

“Lingfeng, what are you doing here? What? You’re here to pick up Wanwan? She hasn’t come back here!”

Fu Lingfeng’s movements paused for a second. The Wen family members, who had just been welcoming her enthusiastically, immediately soured.

“What’s with Wanwan? You’re back from your trip, and she isn’t even here to greet you. Who knows where she’s run off to now…”

“She probably went out shopping with friends,” Fu Lingfeng said, covering for Wen Wan while also hiding the fact that she had been gone for many days.

But the Wen family still seemed dissatisfied. “How can an Omega behave like this? I’ll have to give her a good talking-to later!”

    “There’s no need.”

Fu Lingfeng’s brow furrowed slightly before smoothing out again. It seemed criticizing their own daughter had become a habit for them. When she looked at Wen Wan’s parents again, the Alpha’s gaze was sharp, devoid of the courtesy she had shown earlier as a junior member of the family. “My wife, I will teach her myself.”

The two of them fell silent.

She wasn’t at the Fu residence, nor was she at the Wen’s. Every call to her phone went straight to voicemail; she was completely unreachable.

    Not a single word.

Wen Wan seemed to have very few friends. Fu Lingfeng, usually busy with work, knew even fewer of them, and she never had the contact information for her wife’s close friends.

In the end, she had to get a few numbers from her parents-in-law. But when she called, they all said Wen Wan wasn’t with them. A few even mentioned that they hadn’t been in touch with Wen Wan for a long time.

    She’s not with them?

    “Thank you.”

Fu Lingfeng thanked each one and left a message. “If Wen Wan contacts you in the next few days, please call this number and let me know.”

    The call ended.

Fu Lingfeng looked up, rubbing her throbbing temples, and let out a long, heavy breath.

The business overseas was supposed to have dragged on for another two days, but she had forcefully pushed the partnership to an early close. The very day the contract was signed, she had her assistant book a flight back home. Upon arriving, she heard her wife was gone, and on a whim, decided to go to her parents’ house to pick her up. She hadn’t rested at all and was utterly exhausted.

And now, not only had she failed to pick her up, but a whole series of problems had emerged.

Where could her wife be right now?

Why did she leave so suddenly? Why was her phone off? Could she have met with some kind of accident? It had been a full ten days since the third day after her departure. If she were in danger…

In an instant, countless thoughts flooded Fu Lingfeng’s precise mind, and she even began to consider the worst-case scenario. The numbers “110”1 were already on her phone’s dial pad when she suddenly remembered something she had overlooked.

Fu Lingfeng summoned the maid again, her gaze deep and sharp. “Why did you say Madam went to her parents’ home?”

Sensing the gravity of the Eldest Young Miss’s mood, the maid desperately tried to recall the situation and recounted it once more.

“I asked Madam if she was going back to her parents’ home, and Madam nodded and said ‘en’… Also, I have a feeling that Madam probably didn’t get into any accident.”

“Why?” Fu Lingfeng appeared extremely serious.

“Madam was smiling when she left that day.” She looked so free, as if she were about to fly away.

The maid didn’t say the last part.

    She didn’t dare.

Madam was smiling when she left that day.

The call to the police was never made, nor was it necessary. Fu Lingfeng belatedly realized that Wen Wan had left willingly, of her own accord, without telling a single soul.

    In other words.

    —She ran away from home.

    3

Rest was now out of the question. Fu Lingfeng immediately dialed another number. “Help me find someone.”

“What’s going on?” The voice on the other end was drowsy. “Who are we looking for? Jiang Siyu?2 No need to look for her.”

At the mention of this name, the person on the other end became much more talkative. “Everyone knows she’s coming back to the country soon. Why don’t I check her flight for you so you can go pick her up at the airport? But didn’t you two just see each other in M Country a while ago? You had quite a bit of contact, right…”

Fu Lingfeng cut her off directly. “My wife, Wen Wan.”

“Isn’t your wife always at home? Why look for her? Are you worried she’s cucking you3 while you’re away? No way, no way, could it really be—”

“No.” Fu Lingfeng’s voice was cold as she cut her off. “Just do what I told you to do. What’s with all the questions?”

“Eldest Miss Fu, you at least have to give me a direction.”

“She’s not at home, and she’s not at the Wen’s. I’ve heard nothing from her old friends. I need to find her now.”

    “Understood.”

Her friend, Wei Jiaming4, took the job, though her tone remained dismissive. “Ah, she’s gone missing. So she found out your former white moonlight is coming back and decided to throw a tantrum5? That’s a lot better than just standing there looking dumb like she used to. But at this point, Jiang Siyu is about to return. What’s the use of all this drama now?”

“Wei Jiaming.” Fu Lingfeng said her friend’s name.

She hadn’t rested, and a nerve in her head had been stretched taut this whole time. Even through the phone’s slight distortion, Fu Lingfeng’s voice was exceptionally cold, carrying a clear warning.

“That is my wife. I don’t want to hear anyone talk about her in that tone again.”

    “Got it.”

The call ended quickly, but the other side didn’t quiet down, muttering, “Now you suddenly care and remember she’s your wife,” “What were you doing before,” “Don’t tell me she wants them both…”

But even while grumbling, the work at hand never slowed for a moment.

Even as Fu Lingfeng’s friend, her impression of the wife she had married a few years ago was faint, far less distinct than that of their former classmate, Jiang Siyu.

She vaguely remembered that woman was an Omega whose gentle personality bordered on meek. She would occasionally appear by Fu Lingfeng’s side, rarely speaking. But the way her eyes rested on her Alpha, even without a word, was filled with a gentle love that couldn’t be hidden.

Now, hearing Fu Lingfeng say she was missing, and combining it with the information she knew, Wei Jiaming shot up. “Good heavens! Is Wen Wan planning to drop a bombshell this time?!”

And Fu Lingfeng’s attitude during the call just now seemed to indicate…

At the thought of watching a good show—and possibly being the first to know about it—the person who had been exhausted from pulling all-nighters was suddenly energized. Her hands flew across the keyboard, moving so fast they were almost a blur.

    4

The next morning, Fu Lingfeng received a reply.

“This address. She’s living here now.” After working overtime, Wei Jiaming looked even more haggard, with heavy dark circles under her eyes. But today, she had made the trip in person—when a simple text would have sufficed.

Fu Lingfeng didn’t understand her actions but didn’t care. “Thanks.”

She glanced at the address and was about to leave again when she heard Wei Jiaming ask from behind her, “You’re going to pick up Wen Wan, but what are you going to do when Jiang Siyu gets back?”

Fu Lingfeng’s steps faltered. She stared at her friend with a profound look in her eyes. The latter was completely unafraid and even shrugged.

“To put it simply, between Wen Wan and Jiang Siyu, who will you choose?”

Is there a choice to be made?

“Wen Wan is my wife.” Leaving this sentence behind, Fu Lingfeng’s figure gradually disappeared into the distance.

    5

Following the results of Wei Jiaming’s investigation, Fu Lingfeng traveled through several places before finally stopping in a small water town.

Wen Wan had rented a single-story house with a courtyard. It was now afternoon. After lunch and tending to her flowers, she was now drinking tea and basking in the sun.

Compared to the restless turmoil of the first few days, Wen Wan’s mood was much more peaceful now, especially during the day. The warm sunlight on her skin felt as if it could evaporate all her troubles.

Until now, when she saw Fu Lingfeng’s face once again.

Seeing her so suddenly, she thought it was an illusion. She blinked, but the person before her didn’t disappear. Only then did she realize that this was real, that the other woman was truly standing in front of her, not a figment of her imagination.

First came surprise. Seeing her nominal spouse again brought a long, sour wave of emotion, a sweet surge of joy that she couldn’t control, which was then immediately replaced by endless panic and unease.

Every night, she missed this person before her so, so much. But seeing her for real filled her with such dread.

Wen Wan’s hand instinctively covered her flat abdomen, carefully shielding it.

The Fu Lingfeng before her was the same as ever, dressed in a suit that made her look even more divinely elegant and handsome. When she looked over, her eyes held an unthawing, majestic coldness, like a perfectly carved statue.

Or perhaps like a precision machine in constant operation.

In any case, there wasn’t a trace of human emotion around her.

“Are you done playing?” Fu Lingfeng walked toward her wife, step by step, getting straight to the point. “Come back with me.”

It was a single-story house, and even the courtyard garden was open. Although there was a fence, the hedge was low, and with Fu Lingfeng’s long arms and legs, she crossed it in two or three steps, offering no obstacle at all.

The Alpha approached, reaching out to grasp Wen Wan’s wrist—the very one that had just been resting on her stomach.

    Don’t!!

That simple reaching motion made Wen Wan recoil like a startled rabbit, instinctively taking a step back to dodge.

Fu Lingfeng watched her, her gaze sinking unconsciously.

Fu Lingfeng bore a five or six-tenths resemblance to her sister, Fu Chaoyun. Though both were Alphas, their personalities were completely different.

And then there were her eyes. Compared to Fu Chaoyun’s gentle, amber-colored eyes, Fu Lingfeng’s, while not pure black, leaned toward it. And since her emotions rarely fluctuated, that deep color appeared all the more unfathomable.

Fu Lingfeng had always been decisive and efficient, prioritizing maximum productivity.

The moment she got back, she received the news that Wen Wan was gone. Since then, she had been busy trying to find her as quickly as possible without alarming either set of parents, and had barely rested.

While waiting for news, she had only dozed off lightly, waking at the slightest sound.

She had to go get Wen Wan back.

Fu Lingfeng didn’t know why Wen Wan was looking at her like that, but her reaction was displeasing. After seeing Wen Wan’s avoidant posture, the headache in her sleep-deprived mind suddenly began to throb.

Her emotions surfaced on her face as an icy impatience, unconsciously adopting the demeanor of President Fu at the company.

    “Stop messing around.”

Saying this, Fu Lingfeng reached for Wen Wan’s hand again. This time, her posture was exceptionally firm. She caught it precisely, giving the other no chance to refuse.

Once she had her hand, Fu Lingfeng looked down at her and lowered her voice. “Wanwan, let’s go home.”

    It wasn’t a typo.

Wen Wan’s nickname was Wanwan (晚晚). After their marriage, only Fu Lingfeng called her Wanwan (婉婉)—the same sound, but a different character.

It signified the Alpha’s unique place in her life.

Her wrist was held tight. Wen Wan’s pupils were somewhat unfocused as she was pulled back into the memory of their wedding night.

“Your nickname is Wanwan, so can I call you Wanwan (婉婉)?”

    She had nodded shyly.

“Not Wanwan (晚晚), but Wanwan (婉婉).”

She still didn’t understand. Fu Lingfeng could have just explained it with words, but the young Alpha had suddenly taken her hand and written it out on her palm, stroke by stroke. “This ‘Wan.’ Is that okay?”

The light that night was hazy. When she looked up and asked, even Fu Lingfeng’s cold eyes seemed to hold a hint of tenderness, almost overlapping with her posture now. Back then, she truly believed she would be happy after marriage.

    But was it real?

Were those memories real? Or were they just her own delusion? Or had she simply misremembered and beautified everything?

The wedding night was too long ago, and it had overlapped with reality. The two intertwined, blurring even the memories, making it impossible for her to recall any of those so-called details.

Just like the nickname “Wanwan.” It was clearly the other’s suggestion, something exclusive to that person, and she had shyly and joyfully agreed. But afterward, it was rarely ever used.

Having it was the same as not having it.

Just like her nominal other half. Having her was the same as not having her.

So this time, Wen Wan didn’t let herself be pulled back with a single tug from Fu Lingfeng. Her hand came to rest on the back of Fu Lingfeng’s.

She had been basking in the sun, her palm warm, but the Alpha’s body temperature was a little cold. Wen Wan was startled by the chill, and then, one by one, she pried the other’s fingers off her own.

“I’m not leaving,” she said, her voice soft yet clear. “Just pretend you never saw me.”

    Fu Lingfeng stared at her.

She saw that Wen Wan’s head was lowered, as if she didn’t dare to look at her, revealing only a beautiful, slender neck.

    Fragile yet firm.

Just like how she had pried her fingers away one by one.

“What are you saying?” Fu Lingfeng heard her own voice, distant, as if it were coming from someone else in the third person.

She could no longer restrain herself. The suppression and anger in her tone were unmistakable.

    What is she doing?

Her posture now must look even more terrifying than before, but the usually timid Wen Wan suddenly lifted her head.

Those eyes that used to so often rest on her were now reflecting her image.

The same as in the past, yet completely different.

Because there was no longer any softness or adoration in them. Nor was there cold hatred. It was just a calm statement of fact. Wen Wan even managed a small smile.

The Omega’s face was clean and gentle, like a piece of flawless jade. Her features were soft and agreeable, neither stunning nor the least bit aggressive.

Standing there, she was as delicate and pitiful as a little white flower6.

Only, this flower no longer belonged to her.

It no longer belonged to Fu Lingfeng.

“Fu Lingfeng,” Wen Wan said with a smile, “let’s get a divorce.”

The author has something to say:

I revised a detail in the previous chapter. Wen Wan’s rental balcony is now a courtyard. If it’s a single-story house, they can meet face-to-face. If it were a high-rise, how could Fu Lingfeng possibly see her if Wen Wan didn’t open the door!

I won’t allow such a logic bug to exist!
