【Side Couple】In her past life, Wen Wan and Fu Lingfeng got divorced.

Fu Chaoyun always had a kind of sixth sense, or perhaps, a sense of crisis.

    Right now.

Meeting Fu Lingfeng’s gaze, she immediately went for the standard triple denial—1

    “I’m not! I didn’t! Don’t talk nonsense!”

Fu Lingfeng’s eyes were a different color from Fu Chaoyun’s; her pupils were black, holding an inscrutable depth even under the corridor lights. “Really?”

“Really and truly!” Fu Chaoyun answered extremely quickly, suddenly remembering that internet meme and adding pointedly, “Sis, you gotta believe me!”

Fu Lingfeng’s gaze remained on her. Finally, she let out a soft “tsk,” sounding somewhat regretful.

    Crisis averted.

Fu Chaoyun let out a long sigh of relief.

Working for someone else was impossible; she could only rely on slacking off at her office job to barely scrape by…

The two outside kept their movements extremely quiet, not disturbing those inside the room.

Pei Xuezhi wasn’t entirely ignorant of worldly matters.

She felt that Fu Chaoyun wasn’t the type to silently dedicate herself and suppress her own existence. So, it probably wasn’t that she didn’t want to compete for glory with others, but rather… she was just lazy.

Fragmented images flashed through her mind. In that other life, Fu Chaoyun’s brilliance hadn’t been overshadowed, and her relationship with her older sister was also excellent. In both lifetimes, even without Fu Chaoyun’s help, Fu Lingfeng had managed the Fu Corporation extremely well.

    Moreover, the most crucial point—

If Gu Huaiyi had said such things to her privately, it wouldn’t have mattered. But right now, Wen Wan was also present. Wen Wan was Fu Lingfeng’s wife; saying this was somewhat inappropriate, and even biased.

Although this Fu Chaoyun’s father probably didn’t mean it that way, judging from Wen Wan’s storyline in the previous life, Wen Wan was a delicate and sensitive Omega. Gu Huaiyi had always favored his younger daughter. They were all family, destined to live under the same roof in the future.

Even if Pei Xuezhi wasn’t naturally tactful, she had to brace herself now and help Father Gu smooth things over.

Unexpectedly, Gu Huaiyi acted faster, looking directly at Wen Wan. “My saying this isn’t entirely biased towards Ah Yun.”

    Pei Xuezhi looked over.

Wen Wan always had that gentle and soft appearance. Her position at her own family’s company wasn’t demanding; she could often leave during the day, essentially just a clock-puncher. Her career wasn’t outstanding; she focused more energy on her family.

From a privileged background, with a good personality, she married Fu Lingfeng not long after graduation, seemingly playing the role of a clinging vine completely dependent on her Alpha.

But Pei Xuezhi, reborn, knew better.

It was this quiet, unassuming Wen Wan who, seemingly fine the night before, had resolutely divorced Fu Lingfeng the very next day. Family, friends, even the child still growing in her belly—no matter who tried to persuade her, it was useless!

Before speaking the words, she had already struggled and deliberated countless times in her heart, had given innumerable chances. Once the bow is drawn, there’s no turning back; once it was said, her heart was dead, it was a clean break.

From a trickling stream transformed into an erupting, scorching volcano.

Gu Huaiyi said, “I say this partly because Ah Yun has indeed done well recently, showing improvement and progress; partly also because Lingfeng is too busy. The two sisters can help each other out, which would also give Lingfeng more time to come home.”

    Hearing this, Pei Xuezhi understood.

Although Gu Huaiyi doted on his younger daughter, it wasn’t that he didn’t care for his elder daughter.

He didn’t understand company affairs. When Fu Lingfeng finished her studies years ago, Madam Fu directly stepped down, becoming a hands-off manager and dumping everything onto her elder daughter. On this matter, no amount of pillow talk influence from Gu Huaiyi had worked.

Omegas often had delicate sensibilities; Wen Wan did, and so did Gu Huaiyi. And when it came to matters involving Fu Chaoyun, Pei Xuezhi was the same.

Although Pei Xuezhi had the advantage of her past life’s memories, coming here today, she could also see that between the couple, Wen Wan and Fu Lingfeng, there was more respect than intimacy. Based on the experience of her past life, continuing like this could only lead to the “runaway wife divorces her while pregnant” ending.

How could Gu Huaiyi, who was often at the Fu residence, not know this?

But among the three Alphas in the family, aside from Fu Chaoyun, the others were strong-willed. And Fu Chaoyun only seemed easygoing when dealing with things she didn’t care about; once she decided on something, she was equally extremely stubborn.

Bringing this up now was partly hoping his younger daughter could live more freely, and partly to help lighten the burden on his elder daughter, allowing her to free up more time for family and to accompany her wife.

“Dad,” Wen Wan smiled and nodded. “You’re doing this for our own good, I know.”

“Getting old, I just like to ramble on about these things. Hope you don’t find it annoying.”

    “We don’t.”

    “How could we?”

Pei Xuezhi and Wen Wan spoke in unison. Coincidentally, they looked up and met each other’s eyes, both smiling.

    Gu Huaiyi came from an ordinary background and married into the Fu family when he was young. Although protected by Madam Fu, his stable marriage and happy family life over several decades naturally meant he wasn’t simple;

    Wen Wan possessed an exceptionally perceptive heart;

Pei Xuezhi, though somewhat lacking in social graces, was always more conscientious when it involved Fu Chaoyun.

The three didn’t dwell on it, quickly moving past the topic and continuing to look through old photo albums, including those of the Fu couple and Fu Lingfeng.

As the eldest daughter, the burden of the Fu family rested on Fu Lingfeng’s shoulders. She received an elite education from a young age. Except for being dragged into mischief by her younger sister when she was very little, she grew increasingly proper later on, rarely engaging in foolishness.

By middle school, her appearance was already prim and proper. Following that were pages of graduation photos.

Gu Huaiyi had told Wen Wan all these stories before. Out of consideration for the elder, it was now Wen Wan’s turn to tell Pei Xuezhi.

    As for Gu Huaiyi…

He was summoned downstairs by Madam Fu, who missed her Omega. When he left, the two Alphas who had sneakily come upstairs earlier were long gone.

Only Pei Xuezhi and Wen Wan remained in the room.

Turning a page revealed two or three photos, while the other half of the spread was entirely taken up by a single horizontal graduation picture.

Inscribed above: Senior High Grade 3 (Class 1)

Fu Lingfeng’s appearance was equally outstanding. In the group photo of forty to fifty people, Pei Xuezhi spotted her at a glance. Then, her gaze was captured by the person standing in front of Fu Lingfeng.

It was an extremely gorgeous face, smiling brilliantly at the camera. Pei Xuezhi recognized at first sight that this must be an Omega.

She wasn’t someone easily captivated by beauty—besides, she already had the top-tier Fu Chaoyun by her side. The reason her gaze lingered was only because this face felt strangely familiar, as if she had seen it before…

Due to the combination of two lifetimes and rebirth, Pei Xuezhi’s memories of some past events were often unclear. Initially, the deepest memories were of the harm caused to her by that scum in her previous life.

So profound… it felt as if someone had carved it into her head with a knife.

But gradually, as time passed and the current Fu Chaoyun drew closer, these memories were no longer as sharp, let alone others. Added to that were the strange images flooding her mind recently.

They felt like memories, yet she couldn’t recall them, making it even harder to remember other trivial matters.

Pei Xuezhi’s gaze remained fixed on that person for three or four seconds. Not long, but Wen Wan, being sensitive and perceptive, had already noticed by this time.

Just as Pei Xuezhi was about to cover up her lapse, she saw Wen Wan turn the page directly. Wen Wan naturally murmured a few words about it, but her action was extremely fast compared to before, and she didn’t seem to notice Pei Xuezhi’s abnormality at all.

    Connecting all the dots.

Pei Xuezhi suddenly remembered—that Omega in the graduation photo just now seemed to be Fu Lingfeng’s first love, her white moonlight.2

In her past life, Pei Xuezhi hadn’t been interested in love and romance. Hating someone meant hating everything associated with them; she didn’t pay much attention to the Fu family members, let alone retaliate against all of them.

It was only after those two separated that she heard some things—

Fu Lingfeng had loved someone passionately and tumultuously in her youth.

That person was her classmate, her first love. Both were equally outstanding and attractive, participated in many competitions together, were friends as well as rivals, and came from well-matched families. Naturally, they ended up together.

Unfortunately, this beautiful campus romance didn’t last long. The white moonlight’s family encountered sudden disaster, and they went far away. By the time they returned to the country, Fu Lingfeng had already married someone else. But inevitably, the two became entangled again, involving Wen Wan, making it a trio, causing one drama after another.

There were even rumors that Wen Wan, the wife, was actually the third party, that she wasn’t worthy of her, that Fu Lingfeng had never loved her, and that from beginning to end, she was just helping hold the position. Fu Lingfeng, deeply devoted and without regrets, had actually been waiting all along for that person’s return.

    The rumors outside escalated.

But from what Pei Xuezhi had seen, she felt Fu Lingfeng probably wasn’t that kind of person. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have pursued Wen Wan after the divorce, rather than that white moonlight old flame.

However, judging by Wen Wan’s current behavior, she had known about this person’s existence early on. Thinking more pessimistically—setting aside Fu Lingfeng’s feelings—everyone around them believed that other person was Fu Lingfeng’s “true love.” How much had Wen Wan heard over the years, how much had she endured…

Connecting all these things, it was no wonder Wen Wan had insisted on divorcing Fu Lingfeng back then, even while pregnant.

The entanglement after the white moonlight returned was likely the last straw that broke her.

“Wen Wan-jie.” Pei Xuezhi called out.

Wen Wan had been slightly lost in thought. Pei Xuezhi’s voice carried a natural coolness, startling Wen Wan for a moment.

    “What?”

“She won’t let me call you ‘Wen-jiejie,’ so I can only call you this. Trying it out.”

‘She,’ naturally, referred to Fu Chaoyun.

Wen Wan paused, her mood slightly low from thinking about unpleasant things earlier. Seeing Pei Xuezhi explaining the form of address so earnestly now, she couldn’t help but smile gently. “That’s fine.”

“I’m originally two years older than you anyway, calling me this is very normal.” Wen Wan smiled somewhat teasingly. “If you called me the other way, Ah Yun would probably get jealous.”

“It’s not jealousy.” Pei Xuezhi also explained earnestly. “She gets unhappy.”

Wen Wan somewhat understood this Fu Chaoyun’s personality. “Isn’t that just her acting cute?”

Pei Xuezhi nodded. “You could say that.”

“But she explicitly told me not to call others ‘Jiejie.’ I don’t want her to be unhappy.”

“That’s really nice…” Wen Wan sighed.

“Her personality is quite lively. She tells me clearly whether she’s happy or sad. Of course, sometimes she deliberately plays pranks or jokes, but it’s usually distinguishable, and she apologizes right away.”

Pei Xuezhi rarely spoke so seriously to others about her interactions with Fu Chaoyun, but facing Wen Wan, who had helped her and suffered in the past life… Pausing for a moment, Pei Xuezhi continued.

“I’m not a talkative person. Influenced by her, I occasionally express my emotions too. It’s probably true that the crying child gets the candy; the results are usually good.”

Wen Wan watched her quietly throughout, acting as a listener.

    “So I think—”

Pei Xuezhi’s fingertips rested on Fu Chaoyun’s photo album, an subtle gesture of possession. Her dark eyes looked across at Wen Wan.

“Wen Wan-jie could also try talking to her sometimes.”

The author has something to say:

Still not feeling well, but stopping updates is addictive, and laziness breeds cancer. I was afraid if I didn’t update today, you wouldn’t see me again this month. This chapter might be revised tomorrow, adding a bit more content/word count.

PS: The main text will only touch upon the side couple slightly; they won’t overshadow the main characters. It should be after the main text + main couple extras are completely finished, then depending on the situation, I’ll decide whether or not to write extras for the side couple.
