My Romance Game Updated – Chapter 27
by Little PandaMission
Looking at the new daily missions that had suddenly appeared in the Mission Panel, Ren Chenxi felt the situation was ironic to the extreme. She knew it. How could this dogshit game be so kind? Would it really give her some “Escape from Death’s Jaws Gift Pack” for free?
There was no Escape from Death’s Jaws Gift Pack, but there was a Licking Dog Gift Pack for continuing to chase after and flatter the goddess!
Back when this dog cunt game was still a brain-dead campus romance game, there was no Mission Panel or system-issued missions at all. There was only the wooden goddess’s Favorability Value, waiting for Ren Chenxi to max it out. Without any hints, Ren Chenxi could only fumble around on her own, trying her best to figure out the wooden goddess’s preferences, trying her best to please her and raise her Favorability Value.
After the game updated into an apocalypse survival game, a Card Center and an Apocalypse Mall were added to the game panel. At the same time, a Mission Panel was also added. Initially, the Mission Panel only displayed a single main mission: Player Survival Time: 2×22 β 2×32.
But now, the Mission Panel Ren Chenxi was looking at had Reunion Missions and Daily Missions added to it.
Reunion Mission 1: A long-awaited reunion with the goddess you adore. Please start with a loving hug! Mission Reward: SR1 Recovery Card x5. (Completed)
Reunion Mission 2: You have longed for the goddess for so long and have finally won her heart. Please have an intimate contact with the goddess~ Mission Reward: SR Explosion Card x5. (Completed)
Ren Chenxi stared intently at those two reunion missions, especially the three words “Completed” after them, feeling both annoyed and utterly baffled. When had she ever hugged or had “intimate contact” with that wooden goddess??? Especially that “intimate contact”βjust how intimate was it! Could it beβ¦ when the wooden goddess groped her chest? Orβ¦ did that woman do something else she didn’t know about while she was unconscious?
At this thought, Ren Chenxi’s head snapped up, her gaze landing on Mu Ning, who was sitting diagonally across from her, full of suspicion. Coincidentally, her eyes met Mu Ning’s sweeping gaze. This time, however, Ren Chenxi didn’t shy away. Instead, she glared back defiantly.
What are you looking at! You female pervert!
Being glared at by Ren Chenxi, Mu Ning was also a little baffled. But thinking back on how this person had been so obviously resistant to her since they met, Mu Ning grew even more curious as to why this person would treat her this way. She clearly had the exact same face as Ren Muhui, but this personβwhether it was the look in her eyes or her attitudeβwas completely different from Ren Muhui!
Gazing at the pair of eyes that were once so familiar to her, now devoid of the overflowing adoration they once held, Mu Ning felt another dull ache in her heart.
“Ren Muβ¦ Ren Chenxi, you said you’re Ren Muhui’s twin sister. Then what about your brother, Ren Muhui? Where is he?” If this person really wasn’t Ren Muhui, then there was indeed no need for her to keep holding on to this person, wasting her own time and her ownβ¦ feelings.
The moment Mu Ning’s words fell, the few young people who had been chatting lively together fell silent in an instant.
Everyone present knew that Ren Muhui was gone. Everyone except Mu Ning.
“B-Boss⦔
Chen Gu swallowed hard. He glanced hesitantly at the expressionless Ren Chenxi, then at the cold-faced Mu Ning, wondering how to gently break the unfortunate news to his boss, only to be cut off by Ren Chenxi.
“Why are you asking about him!”
“Hey, hey, hey, your brother is the boss’s boyfriend. It’s normal for the boss to be concerned about her boyfriend!”
Hearing the somewhat aggressive tone in Ren Chenxi’s voice, Chen Gu hurriedly tried to smooth things over. Because of Ren Chenxi’s spatial ability2 and the medicinal supplies in her space, none of Mu Ning’s teammates wanted Ren Chenxi to get into a conflict with Mu Ning and anger their boss. Especially since they still had to tell their boss that her boyfriend was gone.
The boss’s boyfriend was dead. Who knew how much tolerance the boss would have for his sister? What if the boss got upset and drove her away?
Chen Gu and the others were being very considerate of Ren Chenxi, but she couldn’t appreciate their good intentions at all right now.
When Mu Ning had asked where Ren Muhui was, Ren Chenxi hadn’t wanted to look at her infuriating iceberg face, so she had glanced away at the new daily missions on the Mission Panel. But that one glance was enough to make her anger flare up!
Ever since reuniting with the wooden goddess, the missions refreshed by the system were basically all related to this wooden goddess. Besides those two reunion missions, the several daily missions listed right below them also revolved around the wooden goddess. Moreover, these missions actually wanted to force her back into being the licking dog3 she was before the game update, following the goddess around every day, fawning over her and trying to curry favor!
Things like “make the goddess smile,” “make a love breakfast4 for the goddess,” “sing a love song for the goddess”β¦
The rewards for these missions were very tempting; completing them basically awarded an SR-rank card.
But, on what grounds!!!
In the past, knowing full well it was a brain-dead romance game, she had still foolishly messed with her older brother’s game save and gotten trapped inside. That was her own damn fault, she accepted it. So she had diligently worked day after day on the task of raising Mu Ning’s Favorability Value.
Now, she had already conquered Mu Ning, had already escaped the game, yet this brain-dead game had dragged her back in. Powerless to resist, she could only survive cautiously and unwillingly in this updated apocalypse survival game.
So, since this was already an apocalypse survival game and no longer that brain-dead romance game from before, on what grounds was this dog system forcing her to do these daily tasks of pleasing Mu Ning and being her licking dog? Could it be that she could only survive in this hellish apocalypse by continuing to be Mu Ning’s licking dog?
She didn’t want to! And she wouldn’t!
She had had enough of endlessly giving, only to wait for a response that never came! Even if Mu Ning’s favorability towards her was now at one hundred percent, why should she pretend like nothing had happened and continue to debase herself by revolving around this cold-hearted, unfeeling, cold-blooded goddess! Back then, this woman was the one who got annoyed first and told her to get lost, wasn’t she!
Ren Chenxi’s original reason for going traveling was indeed to clear her head. In this one-sided romance game of endless giving, she had grown weary and frustrated. She wanted to leave the game’s main stageβthe campusβand travel around the country for a change of scenery.
The root of her weariness and frustration in this game wasn’t just the lack of any response from Mu Ning, but the fact that when she finally did get a response from the goddess, it was a heartbreaking one.
That was the first time Ren Chenxi had cautiously worked up the courage to confess to Mu Ning. After chasing Mu Ning for so long, the favorability value had constantly risen and fallen, but Ren Chenxi still wanted to know what Mu Ning’s attitude towards her truly was. And Mu Ning’s response?
“That’s enough, Ren Muhui. You’re so fucking annoying, you know that!”
“Can you stop pestering me? Disgusting me with your fake concern?”
“Get lost! Don’t come near me again!”
On Mu Ning’s birthday, she had presented a handmade cake and her confession, but the result was having the gift slapped out of her hands by the recipient, smashing onto the grass. Piercing her at the same time was that heartless “Get lost!”.
As a girl herself, Ren Chenxi knew that girls didn’t like it when guys overstepped their boundaries. So, in the process of pursuing Mu Ning, she had been careful to maintain an appropriate distance. When Mu Ning was in a bad mood, she would play a soothing piece of music from afar. Knowing Mu Ning didn’t have the habit of eating breakfast, she insisted on bringing her homemade breakfast every day. Before the first snowflake of winter fell, she gave Mu Ning a scarf and gloves she had knitted herself.
Even for that birthday before summer vacation, Ren Chenxi had waited until Mu Ning was walking back to her dorm alone, found her, and asked her to come to a small, secluded grove where she had hastily set up a little scene.
Mu Ning disliked crowds and liveliness, so she detested those boys who would set up flowers and candles downstairs from the girls’ dormitory for a heart-wrenching, public confession. In the end, regardless of whether the girl liked the boy or not, there would always be some onlookers jeering, morally pressuring the girl to accept him.
She had carefully considered everything Mu Ning disliked and put her heart into planning a surprise. And the result? On what grounds did you use one word, “hypocritical,” to negate all my efforts?
Yes, at first, she treated pursuing Mu Ning as a game, a mission. But how did you know that I didn’t put my real feelings into this game? And what happened? She had offered up her heart time and time again, only to have it ruthlessly trampled on. A heart like that, no matter how genuine, would be shattered to pieces!!!
She was done playing this romance game, tired of it, and now, she didn’t want to play anymore!
Ren Chenxi let out a soft breath. Ignoring the frantic looks Chen Gu and the others were shooting her, she simply stared at Mu Ning’s still-indifferent face and asked in a cold voice, “When was Ren Muhui your boyfriend? Didn’t you find him annoying, find him disgusting, and tell him to get lost? When did he become your boyfriend!”
The last sentence, Ren Chenxi practically screamed!
When I was sincerely revolving around you, you treated me like an annoying fly. But after I left this game world, you’re saying I’m your boyfriend? Isn’t that ridiculous?
Facing Ren Chenxi’s furious glare, Mu Ning was completely stunned.
“How do you know that?”
Those words were the last few things she had said to Ren Muhui before the apocalypse. They were also the words she regretted saying the most.
How did normal people celebrate their birthdays? Mu Ning didn’t know. But at the very least, they should be happy, right? But on her birthday each year, she had never once been happy. Although, her birthdays had always been lively, with many gifts and many well-wishes. But among those well-wishes, how many were sincere?
All sorts of fake smiles, false flatteryβeveryone’s wonderful blessings for her were only because of the family behind her.
And her parents? They just treated her as an outstanding exhibit. Every year, besides her birthday, they would take her out to be displayed at all kinds of gatherings and banquets. Displaying her appearance, her academics, her various talents. And in the end? Perhaps they would evaluate the various “buyers” and sell her to the “buyer” with the highest “bid,” right?
So, her birthday each yearβwas it really for her, or for them?
Mu Ning hated celebrating her birthday. Until Ren Muhui appeared.
