    Orphan

Before entering the Wei family, I was an orphan.

Luo Zhouping had worked at Wei Tian for half his life and never thought he would one day sell his shares in Wei Tian. This was his final trump card, but now, faced with enormous profits, he couldn’t resist the temptation and decided to play this card. The sale of shares wasn’t going smoothly. Initially, he wanted to sell bit by bit, but there was a problem with that approach – the money would come in slowly. It would take at least two days to sell all the shares in his possession. As a compromise, he could only sell his shares to a single buyer, and there weren’t many who could digest this piece of meat. At nine in the morning, Secretary Yang called him, saying he had contacted a buyer willing to take everything.

Taking everything – he held thirty percent of the shares, no small amount, more than enough to fill the void left by the Shen family. Finally, Luo Zhouping decided to sell twenty-five percent, just enough to fill that hole.

Secretary Yang brought him to meet the buyer, who wore a suit with a red tie, gold tie clip, and a crew cut, about forty years old. Luo Zhouping had never seen this person before and asked with confusion, “You are?”

“My surname is Gu, Director Luo can just call me Mr. Gu.” Luo Zhouping nodded, “Director Gu, there’s no problem with the contract, right? I need the funds in place before ten o’clock.”

“I certainly have no issues. It just depends if Director Luo has any concerns.”

Secretary Yang told Luo Zhouping that Gu Huai was an executive from a foreign company. He had previously expressed interest in acquiring Wei Tian’s shares, but no one was willing to sell. Wei Tian had been developing steadily upward these years – who would be foolish enough to give up such a fat piece of meat? As he said this, he glanced at Luo Zhouping, seeing his cold expression.

Luo Zhouping was now being that fool, giving up the meat right in front of him.

But there was no choice. By giving up one piece of meat now, he could get an entire chicken. Moreover, the deposit had been paid. Between the lighter and heavier options, Luo Zhouping could still distinguish clearly.

The procedures were completed quickly. By nine-thirty, Luo Zhouping had signed the contract with Gu Huai. However, since this was a major share transfer, it still needed board approval. Luo Zhouping convened an online emergency board meeting. Wei Hui and Shiyi didn’t participate. Luo Zhouping couldn’t concern himself with them now – it was better if they didn’t participate. If they raised any objections, he wouldn’t be able to sell the shares, and the previous deposit would be wasted, so he didn’t care about these two’s whereabouts.

Shiyi wasn’t busy; she didn’t participate because she was the mastermind behind this, and currently, the shareholders were very dissatisfied with her failure to buy the land. If she showed up, it would likely prolong the meeting, and she couldn’t be bothered to have any more entanglements with Luo Zhouping, so she simply didn’t participate.

Her working style was different from Wei Hui. Wei Hui emphasized stability in everything, following rules and regulations, developing according to her predetermined path. She wasn’t like that – her methods were aggressive, but undeniably effective. This time, she wanted Luo Zhouping to lose both the person and the land!

At nine-forty, the meeting ended. Luo Zhouping and Gu Huai signed the agreement. The two shook hands cordially, and Luo Zhouping exhaled deeply, smiling as he said, “Shall I have Secretary Yang escort you back?”

Gu Huai shook his head, “No need, I still have to meet an old friend.”

Hearing this, Luo Zhouping could only nod, “Alright then, I won’t keep you, Director Gu. Take care.”

The funds were in place – there was now 800 million in the account, plus yesterday’s 200 million deposit, making up the full billion. Now they were just waiting for the bank’s loan. Secretary Yang had already urged them twice, saying it had been approved, but due to the large transaction amount, the procedures were complicated, so they needed to wait a bit longer.

Luo Zhouping sat in the room watching time tick by second by second. Suddenly, Secretary Yang’s phone rang. He glanced at it – it was the bank calling. Luo Zhouping lifted his chin, “Answer it quickly.”

Secretary Yang put it on speaker: “Hello, Mr. Yang, there’s a problem with your loan.”

Luo Zhouping’s face instantly turned pale, and he immediately grabbed Secretary Yang’s phone, “What problem?”

“Your company has been reported for food-related issues. Are you aware of this?”

    “What?”

Luo Zhouping frowned, “How is that possible!”

The voice on the other end responded coldly, “Haven’t you seen the news? Our bank can still provide loans to companies with poor credibility, but the interest rate will need to be adjusted. We can give you a response by ten-thirty at the latest.”

“What do you mean?” Luo Zhouping roared, “Are you telling me now that I can’t get the loan?”

The staff member on the phone spoke calmly: “Mr. Yang, please calm down. The situation is this: yesterday you didn’t report your company’s actual situation to us. Now your company needs to undergo inspection due to food-related issues. If the inspection results are good, we can certainly continue with the loan, but before the inspection results come out, our bank cannot release the funds.”

“You son of aโ€”” Before Luo Zhouping could finish cursing, Secretary Yang took back the phone, bowing respectfully to Luo Zhouping: “Let me talk to him.”

Luo Zhouping stood at the edge of the sofa and couldn’t help but kick it violently. He had just tidied himself up to meet Gu Huai, so he looked impeccable, but beneath this polished exterior lay a heart ready to explode at any moment!

    He was truly furious!

Soon it was ten o’clock, and there was a knock on the door. The staff member said with a smile: “Director Luo, it’s time to pay the final payment.”

Luo Zhouping looked at him, gritting his teeth: “Can we wait another half hour?”

The staff member frowned: “We can. I can apply for a one-hour extension for you, but if you don’t pay the final payment after that hour, it will be considered a breach of contract, and the deposit cannot be refunded to you.”

Luo Zhouping was very anxious inside, but still maintained a smile on his face: “I know, I know.”

As soon as the person left, Secretary Yang came to Luo Zhouping with a tablet: “Director Luo, look at the company news.”

The screen displayedโ€””Pingshi Group to undergo investigation for food testing violations…”

Luo Zhouping didn’t read the rest of the content. He stumbled back two steps, feeling dizzy, and closed his eyes tightly: “Really, why did these things have to come out at this time!”

    “This must be premeditated!”

Secretary Yang heard his words and closed the tablet, analyzing: “Director Luo, are you saying someone is setting us up?”

“That goes without saying!” Luo Zhouping said through gritted teeth: “Call other directors, see if we can raise 300 million.”

Secretary Yang immediately went to arrange it, but forget about 300 million – even 30 million would be impossible for others to transfer so quickly. So at eleven o’clock, Luo Zhouping’s account still only had a little over 800 million. The staff member outside knocked for the second time, asking: “Director Luo, have you prepared the final payment?”

Luo Zhouping’s face was as white as paper: “Could we…”

“Sorry,” the staff member calmly interrupted him: “Our auction house has rules. We’ve already made one exception for you, we can’t make a second. If you can’t raise the final payment, it can only be considered a breach of contract.”

Something flashed through Luo Zhouping’s mind. He narrowed his eyes and caught onto that thought, asking: “If this is considered a breach of contract, what happens to that piece of land?”

The staff member looked down at the form, responding emotionlessly: “It will go to the second-highest bidder, which would beโ€”Director Wei.”

    Good, very good, excellent!

Wei Nuan, so she was the one who planned all this, making it impossible for him to get that piece of land!

Luo Zhouping now understood everything. He strode to Shiyi’s door and knocked forcefully. The door opened quickly, and Pei Tian came out, calling: “Director Luo, what can I help you with?”

“Stop pretending!” Luo Zhouping shouted inside: “Won’t Director Wei come out and explain?”

Pei Tian lowered his head: “Director Wei is meeting with clients. May I ask what Director Luo needs? If it’s nothing urgent, Director Wei is not receiving visitors!”

It was a direct dismissal, but Luo Zhouping refused to give up, standing at the door shouting: “Wei Nuan! Come out! You b*tch! You set me up!”

Just as his words fell, the door opened, and who should walk out but Gu Huai. Seeing Luo Zhouping, Gu Huai smiled: “Ah, what a coincidence, didn’t expect to meet Director Luo again. I just happened to have some news for you. I recently acquired Wei Tian’s shares, but found they weren’t of much use, so I transferred them to Director Wei.”

“Ahโ€”look at my memory, there’s no point telling Director Luo anyway, since you now only have five percent of the shares, merely a minor shareholder. There’s no need for you to know about such share transfer matters.”

“You!” Luo Zhouping was so angry smoke seemed to come from his seven orifices, and he nearly choked. He was breathing heavily as Secretary Yang held him tightly: “Director Luo, calm down, calm down!”

Calm down his ass! He got nothing – he lost his Wei Tian shares, lost the land, and lost 200 million in breach of contract penalties. F*ck Wei Nuan, he just wanted to drag her out and beat her severely!

Secretary Yang couldn’t hold him – Luo Zhouping was too fat, and with one movement, Secretary Yang lost his grip. It was Pei Tian who reached out, grasping Luo Zhouping’s raised hand, saying softly: “Director Luo, you’d better mind your status and not do anything unbefitting your position.”

Just as they finished speaking, the auction house staff member arrived behind them, asking at the doorway: “Is Director Wei in? That piece of land, does Director Wei still want it?”

Pei Tian nodded, opening the door: “Please go in, Director Wei has been waiting for you for a long time.”

The auction house staff member smiled and stepped into the room. Luo Zhouping’s eyes were bloodshot, his face filled with a murderous expression, as he glared fiercely at the door that was about to close.

The door didn’t close. Wei Nuan stood in the doorway wearing a crisp suit, her long hair casually tied behind her ears. She called out: “Assistant Pei, please release Director Luo.”

Luo Zhouping clenched his teeth tightly, his mouth full of the taste of blood. His chest heaved heavily – he had never been outmaneuvered like this in his life. His eyes were already clouded with hatred. Shiyi showed no regard for him at all, stepping closer, speaking unhurriedly: “Director Luo, hasn’t anyone told you that before seeking the truth, you should investigate everything thoroughly?”

“Since you don’t know how to investigate, let me tell you.”

“Before I entered the Wei family, I had no parents. I was an orphan.”

“I have only one relative in this life – she has the surname Wei, and her name is Wei Hui.”
