    Fever

    Promise me one thing

Shiyi carried Wei Hui to the back rest room, fed her medicine but saw no improvement. With no choice left, she had to call Su Ziyan. By the time Su Ziyan hurriedly arrived, Wei Hui had fallen asleep.

The person on the bed had her phoenix eyes tightly closed, long eyelashes casting small shadows, face pale, forehead sweating uncontrollably. Shiyi wiped her sweat while asking: “Doctor Su, what’s wrong with her?”

After taking her temperature and completing the examination, Su Ziyan said: “She has a fever.”

Shiyi hurriedly grabbed Wei Hui’s hand, fingertips still ice-cold, she worriedly said: “How did she suddenly get a fever? She was fine just now?”

Seeing her anxiety, Su Ziyan comforted: “Her immune system is too weak now, even a cold wind can make her collapse, so a fever is perfectly normal. I’ll give her an IV drip first.”

Shiyi’s eyes turned red with distress, gaze fixed unwaveringly on Wei Hui. After settling Wei Hui, Su Ziyan turned to look at her – taller and thinner now, more composed. She wore a light blue suit, sharp and capable, hair tied back, looking like an elite who had climbed the social ladder, completely different from her modest appearance when she entered the Wei family three years ago.

Wei Hui had succeeded; she had educated this child very well.

After hooking up Wei Hui’s IV, Su Ziyan said: “You know how to remove the needle. Let her sleep after the drip is done. She can’t be disturbed now. Bring her to my office after work, she needs another examination.”

    Shiyi nodded: “Okay.”

Su Ziyan patted her shoulder, wanted to say something, but ultimately said nothing and turned to leave.

Only after he left did Shiyi walk to sit by the bedside in the rest room. Wei Hui was sleeping deeply. This person who would cry, laugh, and sweetly call “Shiyi” in her dreams now lay in bed, soft, delicate, breathing slowly, as if she could leave at any moment.

Fear gripped Shiyi tightly, her extended fingertips trembling, she held Wei Hui’s hand tightly against her own cheek, calling softly: “Huihui.”

“Huihui, I’m back, I’ve returned from Weiss, I missed you so much.”

“Do you know when I was most tired these two years? Not when studying, not when being criticized by professors, but when thinking of you.”

“Huihui, please don’t go, okay? You told me to be greedy, I just want to be greedy this one time, please, don’t go, okay?”

Shiyi’s vision blurred, crying tears, she clutched Wei Hui’s hand very tightly, as if this way she wouldn’t lose her, the warmth in her hand was gradually disappearing, the medicine bottle dripping slowly, Wei Hui kept her eyes tightly closed, never moving.

    “Huihui…”

Shiyi called softly, then came a knock from behind: “Third Miss.”

It was Pei Tian’s voice, very urgent, he rarely spoke with such an anxious tone. Shiyi took tissues from the bedside to wipe her eyes, lightly coughed: “Come in.”

But Pei Tian didn’t enter, still knocking: “Third Miss, Shiyi?”

Shiyi’s thoughts stirred slightly, she stood up and walked to the door, opened it, meeting Pei Tian’s anxious expression, she said: “What’s wrong?”

“Luo Zhouping has brought shareholders to see Third Miss.”

    Shiyi’s brows furrowed: “Where?”

Pei Tian glanced at her: “Right outside.”

Shiyi blinked, telling Pei Tian: “Wait here for a moment.”

As she spoke, she walked into the rest room, quickly touched up her makeup, concealing the redness around her eyes, watching the girl in the mirror gradually shed her innocence, becoming mature. She sighed in relief, finally picking up Wei Hui’s lipstick, applying it to her lips, bright red.

A few minutes later, Pei Tian saw Shiyi walk out wearing stilettos and light makeup, her exquisite beautiful face incomparably cold, somewhat resembling Wei Hui, her bearing confident and composed.

The two walked to the door, where Luo Zhouping was still arguing with the secretary: “I need to see President Wei right now!”

The secretary was anxiously sweating: “Mr. Luo, President Wei is receiving guests inside, and said without special instructions, no one is allowed in.”

“I have urgent business.” Luo Zhouping exchanged looks with two shareholders behind him: “Regarding the abandoned building development project, we must report now. If anything goes wrong, will you take responsibility?”

“I will take responsibility.” A clear voice exploded in everyone’s ears as Shiyi appeared in her suit with her tall figure. The secretary saw her and sighed in relief, bowing: “Miss Shiyi.”

Shiyi waved: “You may go first.”

Luo Zhouping sneered at Shiyi: “What do you mean by this?”

Shiyi raised an eyebrow: “I don’t mean anything, but what does Mr. Luo mean?”

Luo Zhouping didn’t take her seriously at all, his face mocking: “If I remember correctly, you’re just President Wei’s little lover, since when do you have a say in company matters?”

“And you appearing in President Wei’s office now, everyone knows, recently the company lost tens of millions due to information leaks…”

Before he could finish, other directors chimed in: “That’s right, who are you anyway?”

    “What are you doing here?”

“President Wei really doesn’t know proper conduct, letting a stranger into the office!”

Their righteous indignation was truly laughable, Shiyi laughed out loud: “Mr. Luo’s memory isn’t very good, so let me remind you of two things. First, I am a shareholder of Qimao, and Qimao is now the investor in the abandoned building project. Second, I am President Wei’s partner, both emotionally and rationally, is there a problem with me standing here?”

Luo Zhouping looked at Shiyi in bewilderment, when had this girl who smiled shyly before him last time grown up like this?

He had heard Wei Hui sent Shiyi abroad, but thought it was just keeping a concubine in luxury, who knew she was sent for further studies. One Wei Hui was enough to give him headaches, now with Shiyi too, he feared his plans to empty Wei Tian would fail.

    No, this couldn’t continue!

He must act quickly, couldn’t let Wei Hui and Shiyi have any chance to counterattack!

Luo Zhouping’s face showed desperation to burn bridges [็ ด้‡œๆฒ‰่ˆŸ | pรฒ fว” chรฉn zhลu | idiom meaning: point of no return], he said: “I don’t care why you’re here, whether you’re Qimao’s representative or President Wei’s girlfriend, I have issues that must be discussed with President Wei now.”

During this time, he had been closely watching Wei Hui and Su Ziyan’s movements. He couldn’t catch any slip-ups from Wei Hui’s side, but today someone told him Su Ziyan came to the company. What else could he be here for? Most likely to treat Wei Hui, which is why he gathered all the directors and eagerly came to the office to confront people.

    Unexpectedly, he encountered Shiyi.

Shiyi remained calm: “President Wei is inside having a remote meeting with President Du, whatever the matter is, I can relay it.”

Luo Zhouping looked at her: “I wouldn’t trust relaying this matter to anyone, I must see President Wei in person!”

Shiyi didn’t back down at all: “What if I don’t let you see her today?”

    “On what grounds!”

“We have the right to see President Wei!”

“What do you think you are, girl!”

    “Where did you come from!”

Various idle comments followed immediately, but Shiyi’s expression remained calm, speaking as usual: “Fine, since none of you welcome me standing here, I’ll call President Du right now to terminate the cooperation with Wei Tian.”

As soon as she said this, Luo Zhouping’s face changed several times. He hadn’t completely hollowed out Wei Tian yet, hadn’t moved the most important resources, if Wei Tian were to fall at this time, it would be extremely disadvantageous to him too. Besides, his original intention was to force Wei Hui out, not terminate the contract. The other directors also understood this well, their previously aggressive attitude gradually softening. One of them played peacemaker: “To be honest, we’re concerned about President Wei’s health. There have been many rumors lately saying President Wei isn’t well. We just saw Doctor Su downstairs, so we thought we’d come check on President Wei, what do you think?”

The question was thrown back to Shiyi, who replied methodically: “If that’s the case, please wait a moment while I go check if President Wei’s meeting has ended.”

Luo Zhouping didn’t dare force the issue, could only nod: “Thank you for the trouble.”

The other directors whispered among themselves. Shiyi turned around, the casual expression on her face disappeared, her eyes full of worry. Wei Hui was still feverish, she hadn’t recovered, and now she didn’t know if the fever had subsided. If she hadn’t woken up and these people insisted on seeing her, they would surely be exposed. She had just returned and couldn’t yet take Wei Hui’s position – they absolutely couldn’t find out!

With this anxiety, Shiyi strode into the office. No one was there, the empty office had only the rustling sound of wind blowing papers. Shiyi quickly walked into the rest room, saw Wei Hui still lying in bed, she went closer, saying softly: “Huihui?”

The sleeping person didn’t respond to her, completely motionless. Shiyi thought for a few seconds before adjusting Wei Hui’s body, removing her IV, speaking a bit louder: “Huihui!”

Seeing Wei Hui didn’t move, Shiyi had no choice but to carry her to the office chair outside, facing away from everyone, with a phone placed on her shoulder. After everything was prepared and confirming nothing looked unusual from behind, she was about to leave to open the door when she heard a very soft call: “Shiyi?”

The voice was hoarse and low. Shiyi was so excited she almost cried, immediately walking to Wei Hui’s office chair, half-kneeling: “Huihui, you’re awake?”

    Wei Hui nodded: “What’s wrong?”

Shiyi briefly explained the situation outside. Wei Hui nodded: “Okay, I understand.”

“Can you hold on? Don’t say anything later, let me do the talking.”

“As long as they see you’re conscious, they’ll have no choice.”

Wei Hui who had just woken looked somewhat fragile, but the determination in her bones hadn’t faded, blending together, unlike typical patients looking sickly. Shiyi ran to the bathroom, reapplied her makeup, fingers trembling. Wei Hui held her slender wrist, saying softly: “Don’t be afraid.”

Shiyi’s eyes were blood-red, she smiled: “I’m not afraid.”

As long as she could wake up, there was nothing to fear.

After finishing the makeup, Shiyi asked Wei Hui: “Shall I open the door?”

Wei Hui thought for a moment and called out: “Shiyi.”

Shiyi turned her head, meeting Wei Hui’s clear eyes, hearing her low voice say: “After we get through this, think of a way.”

She spoke while lowering her head, not feeling at all that she was saying something incredibly cruel. Shiyi froze in place, her ears and head buzzing, hands clenched at her sides, teeth gritted tightly, a bloody sweet taste filling her nose and throat, making her almost vomit, her face paler than Wei Hui’s.

Wei Hui’s voice was cold and unique, yet heartless.

“Shiyi, after we get through this, think of a way to injure my legs.”
