Morning Longing for Warmth – Chapter 50
by Little PandaLove Me
I’m sorry, I dare not.
“Shiyi, don’t you want me?”
How could she not want her? She thought about her day and night, until her heart ached. Several times when they slept, she didn’t dare meet her eyes, didn’t dare touch her, didn’t even dare breathe heavily. She was too fragrant, so fragrant that Shiyi feared losing control, so every night she would only return to the room after Wei Hui had fallen asleep, making excuses about being busy with studies.
She wasn’t that strong – to remain unmoved with the person she loved sleeping beside her. That cool fragrance was like an aphrodisiac, tempting her constantly.
But she couldn’t, and didn’t dare. She feared Wei Hui would have an attack. If not touching her could extend her life, she would willingly never touch her for a lifetime.
Shiyi’s mind was in chaos. Outside the window, lightning flashed and thunder rumbled. The room lit up for several seconds, and she saw Wei Hui lying beside her. Those phoenix eyes were watching her – usually cold and distant, but now gentle and tender. Shiyi’s heart trembled, her hands shaking. Wei Hui took her hand and placed it against her own cheek, gently caressing. The delicate skin made the air feel increasingly thin.
Shiyi suddenly sat up!
“Huihui,” Shiyi’s forehead was sweating as she swallowed and said, “I—”
Wei Hui embraced her from behind, hands touching randomly. Shiyi’s long hair was disheveled, with several strands falling against her skin, causing a ticklish sensation. She grabbed Wei Hui’s hands and shook her head, saying, “I don’t want to.”
The person behind her froze, and Wei Hui softly asked, “Is it that you don’t want to, or that you don’t dare?”
Shiyi bit her lip, her right hand still tightly gripping Wei Hui’s wrist, though not daring to use force, only trying to keep her still. The thin air made it difficult to speak. She lowered her eyes and said, “I don’t want to.”
Wei Hui smiled: “It’s alright.”
“I want to.”
The tip of Shiyi’s nose stung, her eyes growing warm, as she whimpered: “Huihui—”
Wei Hui easily withdrew her hand, straightened Shiyi’s face, leaned forward, and kissed her. Between them, it had always been Shiyi who initiated, while Wei Hui typically just responded to her desires and cooperated. Such initiative from her was rare, and its rarity made it all the more heart-stirring. Wei Hui’s unprecedented initiative left Shiyi unable to think clearly. The person who was always restrained and courteous in her heart had now cast aside all constraints, only wanting to be with her, completely and fully.
Shiyi’s vision blurred, as if stained with water, unable to clearly see Wei Hui’s expression. She could only respond by instinct.
Skin pressed against skin, the room filled with faint sounds of their embrace, while outside the heavy rain continued to patter. Rather than diluting the room’s intimate atmosphere, it only made it more intense.
Wei Hui’s phoenix eyes narrowed, and when occasional lightning flashed in, she could clearly see Shiyi’s expression – restrained, controlled, gentle. She couldn’t help but softly call out: “Shiyi.”
Her soft voice in such darkness made one’s blood boil even more.
Yet at the height of passion, Shiyi became even more rational. She gritted her teeth to control her body’s impulses. Her slender fingers touched Wei Hui’s sensitive spot and stopped, then she turned to lie beside Wei Hui, saying softly: “I’m sorry.”
“Huihui, I’m sorry, I don’t dare.”
“I don’t dare.”
She didn’t dare continue, didn’t dare go further. She was afraid, she had become cowardly. Wei Hui turned her head, and lightning illuminated the room. She saw Shiyi close her eyes, tears rolling into her hair strands. Her heart twinged, and she reached out to embrace Shiyi, pulling her into her arms, saying softly: “Alright, then we won’t do it.”
“I’m sorry,” Shiyi sobbed. “I’m sorry, I’m so useless, I’m sorry.”
She wasn’t foolish or stupid; she understood Wei Hui’s intentions. This time she was going to Weiss, not knowing when she’d return. Although such intimacy wasn’t mandatory between couples, Wei Hui might leave at any time after she went to Weiss. She was risking her life not for physical intimacy, but because she didn’t want to leave any regrets – her regrets, their regrets. In this lifetime, she had loved someone with all her might, giving everything without reservation.
But she didn’t dare, she didn’t dare!
She couldn’t risk anything. Just thinking about Wei Hui leaving her made her cry uncontrollably – how could she possibly be intimate with her?
What did it matter that Dr. Su said moderate intimacy was acceptable? She couldn’t overcome her mental barrier.
She truly feared that like last time, it would trigger her condition!
Shiyi’s voice choked: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
Wei Hui kissed away her tears: “Don’t cry.”
Shiyi tried to hold back: “I can’t help it.”
In the darkness, Wei Hui said softly: “If you keep crying, if you keep crying…”
Shiyi turned her head as lightning flashed, and she saw Wei Hui say somewhat awkwardly: “If you keep crying, I’ll cry too.”
She burst out laughing.
In the late night, they lay together without sleepwear, just cuddling. Shiyi’s voice had grown hoarse from crying when Wei Hui tilted her head and said: “Sing me a song.”
Shiyi thought for a moment: “Alright.”
“Two tigers, two tigers
Running fast, running fast
One has no eyes, one has no tail
How strange, how strange
Two tigers, two tigers
Running fast, running fast
One has no eyes, one has no tail
How strange, how strange…”
Wei Hui laughed: “Why are you singing a children’s song?”
Shiyi buried herself in her embrace: “Love songs would be too intense.”
Wei Hui: …
When they woke up, the sky had cleared. Du Yueming was knocking on the door: “Shiyi, get up for breakfast, we need to leave.”
Shiyi opened her eyes to find Wei Hui still sleeping. They had talked late into the night, and she wasn’t sure when they’d fallen asleep. Her eyes were still sore. Worried about disturbing Wei Hui’s rest, she put on a robe and opened the door, saying: “We’ll be out shortly.”
Du Yueming peeked inside, saw Wei Hui still sleeping, and chuckled: “Nice going, sister! Had fun last night, huh? Well, you’re about to part ways, so of course you would.”
“Alright, I’m going to eat breakfast first.”
Shiyi closed the door. Wei Hui had awakened, sunlight streaming through the curtain gaps. As Wei Hui sat up, the thin blanket slipped to her waist. Shiyi walked forward two steps and calmly pulled the blanket up, saying: “Yueming called us for breakfast.”
Wei Hui: “You go wash up first.”
Shiyi nodded, straightened up, took two steps out before turning back to give Wei Hui a quick kiss on the corner of her mouth, saying: “Good morning.”
She then turned and went to the bathroom. Wei Hui touched the kissed corner of her mouth, smiling.
After breakfast, they headed back to Jiang City. Shiyi and Du Yueming had a 4 PM flight. Wei Hui asked Pei Tian to take Shiyi back to the Wei family home, but Shiyi said she wanted to spend time with her before leaving. Wei Hui silently agreed, and they went to the company together.
Everyone at the company knew about their relationship. During New Year’s, Shiyi had slapped Shen Suqing, making her the laughingstock of Jiang City. Because of this, Shen Hao often came looking for trouble and tried to ally with Luo Zhouping. This person had contacted her before, initially thinking they could quickly reach an agreement with Luo Zhouping, but it kept getting delayed. Previously, Luo Zhouping wanted to cooperate with Shen Hao because he had leverage with the abandoned building project, but now that construction had started and with the Du family’s backing, he had no reason to work with Shen Hao.
Despite Shen Hao’s repeated attempts at goodwill, he received no response, making him hate Wei Hui even more, though he could do nothing about it. Recently, for meetings about the abandoned building project, Shen Hao had been sending another vice president in his place. He didn’t come, and Wei Hui couldn’t be bothered with him – just a clown, not worth her energy to deal with.
Her indifference was like an invisible slap to Shen Hao’s face, making him feel humiliated, so he rarely appeared at other events lately.
All of Jiang City was watching to see when the Shen family would confront Wei Hui and cancel their cooperation, but after nearly half a year, the Shen family showed no movement. The longer this went on, the more people mocked the Shen family – taking a slap and still having to bow their heads, truly shameful.
But even with the shame, they had no choice. The abandoned building project’s profits were too high for them to act on emotion and just abandon it. Now, forget about Shiyi slapping Shen Suqing – even if Wei Hui had slapped her, they would have to offer Shen Suqing’s other cheek for another slap.
The strong become kings – this has been the way of things since ancient times.
After reaching the office, Wei Hui looked at the high stack of reports. Before she could start, Shiyi said: “Handle the urgent ones first.”
Pei Tian stood at the desk, originally intending to report the company’s weekly status, but after glancing at Wei Hui and Shiyi, he lowered his head: “Third Miss, I’ll step out first. Call me if you need anything.”
Wei Hui nodded, and after Pei Tian left, she asked: “Really not going back to pack?”
Shiyi looked down at her reports – the astronomical figures no longer seemed so incomprehensible now. She made an affirmative sound: “The luggage is already packed. I’ll head back at three, and you don’t need to see me off at the airport.”
Wei Hui’s brows furrowed: “You don’t want me to see you off?”
Shiyi glanced at her tense profile: “If you come to see me off, I probably won’t be able to leave.”
Wei Hui’s lips moved slightly, but she finally said nothing, lowering her head to browse through documents.
In the quiet office, Shiyi organized documents for her, brought hot water, and they ate lunch in the office. They didn’t act like they were about to part ways; everything seemed normal until two-thirty in the afternoon when Shiyi brought the last cup of warm water to Wei Hui, saying softly: “Well, I’m going.”
Wei Hui’s signing hand paused, and she said in a deep voice: “Alright.”
Shiyi smiled at her: “Continue with your work.”
Wei Hui stood up, hands behind her back: “Nothing else to say?”
Shiyi thought for a moment and said: “You have to call me and message me every day from now on, eat on time, exercise regularly, visit Dr. Su on the twentieth of each month – don’t get the date wrong. Also, you have a cold constitution, just drinking hot water during your period isn’t enough, have Aunt Liu make you red date chicken soup…”
Her mouth grew dry as she spoke. She took a breath: “That’s all for now, I’ll message you if I think of anything else.”
Wei Hui listened to her rambling and nodded: “Alright.”
She had only one thing to say: “Come back soon.”
Shiyi’s nose stung: “Mm.”
She strode out of the office. Du Yueming was already waiting downstairs. After they returned to the Wei house to get the luggage, Du Yueming asked: “Your Third Miss isn’t seeing you off at the airport?”
Shiyi tilted her head: “She’s busy with work.”
“Shiyi, you know what you look like right now?” Du Yueming slapped the steering wheel and laughed: “A neglected wife!”
“I really don’t understand you two. Why go for further studies now? Wouldn’t it be better to stay together being sweet and loving every day? I’d love to have an awesome girlfriend – I’d just need to move my hands in bed to make her happy, oh—”
Shiyi glared at her irritably, using her gaze to stop her unrestrained words. After getting their luggage from the Wei house, they headed straight to the airport. Unlike Shiyi who had no one seeing her off, the entire Du family came, including Du Yueming’s older brother, the politician Du Yuexing. Unlike Du Yuehan’s ever-smiling face, Du Yuexing’s face was expressionless. He examined Du Yueming thoroughly and said: “Take good care of yourself when you get there.”
Du Yueming was naturally afraid of him and nodded: “I know.”
Just as Du Yuehan was about to speak, Du Yueming, not wanting to hear his lecture, said directly: “Shiyi, hurry up, we need to board.”
Shiyi clutched her ticket, looking around, and quietly said: “Alright.”
At the moment she turned her head, someone behind an airport pillar stepped back twice. Through the crowd, she saw Shiyi’s slender profile and thin back. With her hands behind her back, she heard Pei Tian ask: “Third Miss, really not going over?”
Wei Hui shook her head, watching Shiyi pass through security and walk inside. As if sensing something, Shiyi turned to look in their direction. Wei Hui quickly turned sideways, hiding herself behind the pillar. She leaned against it, hand pressed to her chest, her face slightly pale. Pei Tian stood beside her, hearing her suppressed voice: “Help me to the car quickly.”
Her heart was beating painfully abnormal – she was likely about to have an attack.
