Morning Longing for Warmth – Chapter 43
by Little PandaSleeping Together
We’ll sleep together tonight.
She and Wei Hui were together now. Shiyi was so excited she couldn’t sleep at midnight, and after thinking for a while, she still decided to message her only friend.
“Yueming, I want to tell you something.”
Du Yueming had just returned home after having enough fun with friends, and as soon as she sat down on the bed, she received the message: “What is it?”
She smiled mischievously [or: lewd/sleazy], looking at the screen with a cheeky expression, when suddenly a message popped up: “Third Miss and I are together now.”
Du Yueming rolled her eyes: “Obviously, weren’t you two already together?”
Shiyi was stunned by her words for a moment, then hugged her phone and smiled. Yes, to outsiders, she and Wei Hui had seemed to be together for a long time, but they didn’t know that they had just officially gotten together. Even though this joy couldn’t be shared with others, Shiyi didn’t feel bad; instead, she smiled even more happily.
She truly liked Third Miss.
She liked her so much that just thinking of that name made joy bubble up in her heart, and moreover, Third Miss liked her too. Such a wonderful Third Miss actually liked her!
Shiyi turned off her phone, still unable to suppress her smile. Her lips remained curved upward, her heart still pounding rapidly and hadn’t calmed down yet. When she closed her eyes, she seemed to return to the garden just now, Wei Hui’s soft breath falling on her cheek, her fragrance wafting through the air, and the sweetness of their lips meeting – Shiyi wanted to scream with excitement!
She tossed and turned on the bed, then heard another ring. She picked up her phone to look, and Du Yueming had sent: “Tell me when you develop new positions, I’m more curious about that.”
Reallyโas unreliable as ever.
But she was even more unreliable than Du Yueming. What kind of confession had she made? Just saying that seeing her made her happy, wanting to hug her, kiss her, wanting to do all intimate things with her – she actually had so many things she wanted to tell her, but in the end, she only said these few sentences.
Shiyi’s joyful mood faded slightly as she sighed. If only she could become as clever as Third Miss someday, then she could tell her all the happiness in her heart.
The phone in her palm rang with a crisp sound again. Shiyi thought it was Du Yueming sending more unreliable messages, but unexpectedly it was Wei Hui, with just two simple words: “Good night.”
Even when they weren’t together, she often sent messages to Wei Hui, but “good night” – this was the first time.
Shiyi stared at those two words in a daze. The excitement she had just suppressed bubbled up again, even more intensely than before, leaving her defenseless. She was so excited that she didn’t notice herself rolling to the edge of the bed, and she watched helplessly as her body fell!
With a “dong” sound, the charger on the bedside table was dragged down with her onto the floor with a crisp noise. Shiyi sat up hugging the blanket, and just as she was crawling back onto the bed, she heard movement at the door – it was a knock.
Shiyi quickly stuffed all the blankets back onto the bed, adjusted her pajamas, and walked to the door. After taking two deep breaths and making sure she looked okay, she opened the door. Sure enough, Wei Hui was standing outside, wearing pajamas with her long hair flowing loose, her eyes gentle as she asked, “What happened?”
Shiyi was too embarrassed to tell what had just happened. Her lips moved several times before realizing she wasn’t good at lying, so she simply told the truth: “I was too excited and rolled off the bed.”
Wei Hui laughed softly at her words, her cold and aloof expression melting away into tenderness and intimacy. Shiyi stared at her soft profile, her heart pounding up to her throat. As she watched Wei Hui laugh, she couldn’t help but smile too, her eyes curving like crescent moons, filled with galaxies, brilliant and bright. Wei Hui sighed after laughing, and to Shiyi’s surprise, walked in and sat on the bed, saying: “Come here.”
Shiyi shuffled her feet, moving toward her in a daze. Wei Hui looked up and said, “Let’s sleep together tonight.”
“Ah?”
Wei Hui smiled: “I’m afraid if I don’t watch over you, you’ll roll out of bed tomorrow.”
Shiyi didn’t catch the essence of her rare humor, her mind filled only with Wei Hui’s words, “Let’s sleep together.”
Let’s sleep together.
And Du Yueming’s unreliable message.
“Tell me when you develop new positions.”
Shiyi turned away in embarrassment, what on earth was she thinking about!
But she couldn’t help it, some thoughts were beyond her control, freely spreading. Seeing Third Miss sitting on the bed made her want to get closer, to hug her, to…
Stop thinking!
Shiyi shook her head to clear away the distracting thoughts, and obediently sat beside Wei Hui. Seeing Wei Hui arrange the blanket and sit down first, she also docilely lifted the blanket and sat beside her. The warmth under the blanket intertwined between them. The room’s light was still on when Wei Hui called out after a moment: “Shiyi.”
Shiyi turned to look at her. Wei Hui’s hair covered half her face, revealing her elegant features, dignified and extraordinarily beautiful. Seeing this made her heart race again, and her voice trembled as she responded: “Mm?”
Wei Hui reached out, holding Shiyi’s hand under the blanket. Noticing her palm was sweaty, Wei Hui smiled: “Are you nervous?”
Shiyi’s face turned crimson with honesty, her eyes glistening with small reflections as she bit her lip: “A… a little.”
Wei Hui lowered her eyes, holding Shiyi’s hand tightly as she said softly: “I’ve never been in love before. Since childhood, I’ve always planned everything, and dating wasn’t in my plans. Ziyan used to joke that no one would even miss me when I died.”
She had lived half her life this way, everything following a plan, doing things with purpose, never wasting time on meaningless activities, and certainly never getting to know new people.
Meeting Shiyi, initially she only thought that she could bear her children – a transaction, neither owing the other anything. But gradually, Shiyi’s place in her heart became distinctly different. Perhaps it was because she was superficially enchanted by those eyes from their first meeting, perhaps because despite suffering so much wrongdoing, she still maintained an innocent heart of a child, or perhaps because of the gifts she bought and the blessings she gave.
She couldn’t remember exactly when this person had taken root in her heart. She never thought she would like Shiyi, but that was the reality, and there was no escaping it.
She had always been clear-headed in dealing with people and things, making decisions after considering the consequences, never regretting them. Only her relationship with Shiyi made her hesitate.
Shiyi’s racing heart gradually calmed under her peaceful voice, then a thread-like pain pierced through. She gripped Wei Hui’s hand back without speaking. Wei Hui continued: “So I don’t know how to be in a relationship, how to get along, or whether what I’m doing is right or wrong. I was thinking in my room for a long time just now, maybe…”
“Just like this,” Shiyi concealed her shyness, her beautiful eyes meeting Wei Hui’s. She held Wei Hui’s hand tightly, propped herself up on her elbow, and pecked Wei Hui’s lips, saying while biting her lip: “Just like this, I think it’s perfect.”
“Third Miss, can I kiss you?”
Wei Hui nodded, her eyes twinkling with laughter. Under her clear gaze, Shiyi kissed her again, then smiled and fell into her embrace.
Her whole body was like a little heater, warming Wei Hui’s body and heart. Wei Hui, who usually had cold hands and feet, was now filled with warmth, her body radiating heat. She loved this feeling. Wei Hui couldn’t help but hold Shiyi tightly. The room was quiet, with howling winter wind outside hitting against the windows, making the room feel even more peaceful and cozy. Their breathing steadied as they fell into deep sleep.
Shiyi was woken up by noise. Among her phone contacts, besides Wei Hui and Su Ziyan, there was only Du Yueming left. So early in the morning, with Wei Hui still sleeping in her embrace, Su Ziyan wouldn’t possibly call at this hour, so it must be Du Yueming.
Shiyi picked up the phone, and sure enough, saw Du Yueming’s name on the screen. Afraid of disturbing Wei Hui’s sleep, she deliberately answered in a low voice: “Hello.”
The other end was full of energy: “Shiyi, what exactly did you mean last night?”
Du Yueming had been too excited last night and even dreamed about Shiyi. In the morning, she kept pondering over that message, not understanding its meaning, so she called early to ask. Shiyi bit her lip: “Nothing, it didn’t mean anything.”
Wei Hui was sleeping beside her, eyes tightly closed, her long eyelashes casting small shadows beneath, her skin slightly pale, fine hair strands clinging to her cheeks. Shiyi’s gaze softened as she gently tucked Wei Hui’s hair behind her ear, revealing more of her delicate features. On the phone, Du Yueming was still chattering excitedly: “What do you mean nothing? No, it must mean something. Did she propose?”
Shiyi choked at her unexpected wild imagination, coughing twice before hurriedly responding in a quiet voice: “No, don’t overthink it. I, I sent it by mistake.”
Du Yueming clicked her tongue, and since her mind wasn’t quick enough, she decided not to dwell on it and changed the subject: “There’s a gathering at my house on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year. Will you come?”
“At your house?” Shiyi hesitantly asked back. If it was just meeting Du Yueming alone, she wouldn’t need to think about it and would definitely go, but since it was a gathering, there would certainly be others. Shiyi had met these other people twice before and could feel that some of them didn’t like her. She didn’t agree immediately, considering carefully: “Let’s talk about it later.”
Du Yueming nodded: “Alright, I’ll hang up then. Let me know if you’re coming, and I’ll send a car to pick you up.”
Shiyi bit her lip: “Okay.”
After hanging up, Shiyi held her phone, when a slightly hoarse voice came from beside her: “What’s wrong?”
“Who was on the phone?”
Shiyi turned her head to see Wei Hui was already awake, her hand on her forehead, elegant brows slightly furrowed, face pale. Shiyi quickly put down her phone and asked: “It was Du Yueming. Did I wake you?”
Wei Hui propped herself up to sit halfway, the blanket falling to her lower abdomen, and she smiled lightly: “No.”
Shiyi twisted the blanket with both hands, biting her lip, not knowing what to say. They had just confirmed their relationship and were already sleeping in the same bed. Although nothing had happened, such quick progress still made her feel a bit lost, not knowing how to ease the awkwardness. Fortunately, Wei Hui didn’t seem uncomfortable at all, and asked in a casual tone: “What did you talk about?”
Shiyi gradually relaxed at her calm voice. She looked at Wei Hui’s cool profile, her heart filled with both peace and excitement. What was there to be awkward about? This was the person she liked most, and who liked her back. They could talk about anything, do anything, without need for excessive consideration or taboos. They would be the closest of people, doing the most intimate things, so there was no need for awkwardness.
Thinking this way, she gazed intently at Wei Hui, and under Wei Hui’s slightly surprised expression, she actively leaned over and kissed her cheek, saying softly: “She said there’s a gathering at her house on the fifth day of the New Year, and asked if I’m free.”
Wei Hui’s heart skipped a beat when she came close, her cheek touched by that softness. She turned to look at Shiyi and met those beautiful eyes, showing no trace of just-woken haziness, only clarity and purity, along with undisguised joy. Wei Hui’s eyes showed pleasure as her face unnaturally turned red, and she lowered her gaze: “Do you want to go?”
Shiyi shook her head: “No, I want to stay with you.”
Her childish words made Wei Hui laugh. The morning sunlight poured over them both, painting the room with warmth. After thinking for a moment, Wei Hui said: “Go ahead.”
Shiyi looked confused, and Wei Hui reached out to ruffle her hair, continuing with gentle eyes: “I’ll go with you.”
