Morning Longing for Warmth – Chapter 38
by Little PandaRemember
This is what a kiss truly is.
Wei Hui had heard her own heartbeat countless times – steady, calm, during episodes, and chaotic – always through medical devices. She never imagined that one day her heartbeat would pierce through her eardrums, creating intense vibrations, completely irregular.
The moment she was kissed, she pushed Shiyi away, her delicate brows furrowed: “Shiyi?”
Shiyi kept her head tilted up, face slightly flushed, eyes glistening. Her palm holding Wei Hui’s hand was unusually warm, unlike typical symptoms of intoxication. Wei Hui lowered her eyes and called again: “Shiyi?”
She patted Shiyi’s cheeks, feeling the high temperature. Shiyi found Wei Hui’s cool hand particularly comfortable against her skin. While staring at Wei Hui, she nuzzled against her hand like a cat, her gaze bold and uninhibited.
Wei Hui asked helplessly: “Shiyi, do you still recognize me?”
Shiyi smiled: “Third Miss.”
She still hadn’t released Wei Hui, holding her while speaking, nuzzling against Wei Hui’s palm. Finding it unsatisfying, she moved her face next to Wei Hui’s cheek and nuzzled there. Wei Hui’s breath caught as she tried to retreat, but being held too tightly, she couldn’t break free, and was taken advantage of a second time.
The fragrance at her nose was rich and bewitching. As Shiyi’s cheek brushed against hers, Wei Hui’s heartbeat inexplicably quickened, beating faster than before. Her heart couldn’t handle such strain, and she let out a muffled groan, collapsing against Shiyi.
Pain shot through her chest, leaving her breathless. Just as she tried to call Shiyi for her medicine, her lips were sealed with a kiss – this time firm and thorough, not just a fleeting touch. Shiyi had never kissed before; she was acting on instinct as she gently bit and nibbled Wei Hui’s lips, her tongue exploring Wei Hui’s mouth, seeking every sweet taste, hearing her call out: “Shiyi…”
The broken, fragmented sounds seemed more like an invitation.
Wei Hui’s forehead was covered in a thin sheen of sweat. With her lips sealed and her heart painfully racing, she could still sense Shiyi’s agile tongue exploring, causing her body to react strangely – this feeling was absolutely terrible!
Covering her chest with her hand, just before fainting, she grabbed her phone from under the pillow and forcefully threw it at Shiyi!
The weight on her body froze for a moment before quickly withdrawing. As it lifted, she heard Shiyi’s regretful voice: “Th-Third Miss.”
“Get the medicine.” Wei Hui was tense to her limit, her fingers trembling, her body shaking lightly. Seeing this, Shiyi immediately retrieved medicine from her bag, dispensing two pills for Wei Hui, who swallowed them immediately without water.
“Are you alright?” Shiyi’s heart ached seeing Wei Hui’s weak state. Wei Hui’s nightgown buttons were half undone, revealing her undergarments, her chest heaving with each breath, long hair disheveled. Shiyi didn’t dare look, keeping her head down as her head throbbed and shame washed over her.
She had just done such a thing to Third Miss.
How outrageously bold of her!
Shiyi felt so ashamed she wished she could find a hole to crawl into!
After taking the medicine, Wei Hui leaned against the headboard, methodically rebuttoning her nightgown and pulling the covers over herself. Finally, she asked: “What did you eat tonight?”
Shiyi looked up at the question, her eyes rimmed red and glistening with tears, shaking her head: “Nothing.”
Wei Hui coughed softly and said: “Hold out your hands.”
Shiyi extended both hands, palms sweating and radiating heat. Wei Hui touched them with her cool fingertips and asked softly: “How does it feel?”
Shiyi bit her lip in silence until Wei Hui lost patience: “Speak.”
“It’s… it’s very comfortable.”
At such honest words, Wei Hui coughed lightly several times, her breathing slightly quickened. Shiyi hurriedly said: “Third Miss, please rest. I won’t get in bed anymore, I promise.”
Afraid Wei Hui wouldn’t believe her, she lowered her raised hands: “Should I leave instead?”
Seeing her expression of fear about causing more harm, Wei Hui shook her head: “Where else are you feeling unwell?”
“Don’t hide anything, tell me truthfully.”
Shiyi had no choice but to tell Wei Hui about all her physical discomfort, ending with: “I’m sorry, Third Miss. I didn’t mean to, I don’t know howβ I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
Her voice was tearful; she truly hadn’t been able to control herself, as if she’d gone mad.
Wei Hui softly interrupted, asking: “The fragrance on you, who gave it to you?”
“Fragrance?” Shiyi’s clouded mind thought for a moment before answering quietly: “Miss Du.”
Wei Hui pressed her hand to her forehead and told Shiyi: “Go take a shower.”
Even someone as slow as Shiyi finally understood the implication. She hadn’t realized this was what Du Yueming meant by her private collection – of course it wouldn’t have been skincare products. How foolish of her!
The bathroom echoed with the sound of running water. Wei Hui leaned against the headboard, drinking warm water. Her heartbeat had steadied, the earlier chaos seeming like an illusion. Yet the sensation of their lips meeting, that soft pressure against hers, wouldn’t fade – just thinking about it made her heart skip a beat.
She closed her eyes briefly, her tongue pressing against her lips, feeling a slight sting.
Shiyi’s kisses had been completely artless, purely instinctual – gentle bites and slow nibbles, taking everything she wanted. Wei Hui never imagined she would be forcefully kissed one day, and even more surprisingly, that she would find herself longing for it afterward.
She must truly be losing her mind.
When Shiyi came out of the bathroom, she saw Wei Hui lying on the bed but didn’t dare approach, instead standing far away and saying: “Third Miss, please rest first.”
Wei Hui tilted her head to look at her and called: “Come here.”
Shiyi hesitated before walking over, but didn’t get on the bed, just standing beside it with lowered head, wringing her nightgown in her hands. Wei Hui said softly: “It’s fine, get in bed and rest.”
“But I just…”
Wei Hui cut her off: “When I say it’s fine, it’s fine.”
Though Shiyi had never dared disobey her decisions before, this time she didn’t comply, standing in place and saying: “I’m sorry, Third Miss. Maybe I should sleep on the couch.”
“Get in.” The words were short, cool, and tinged with impatience. Shiyi bit her lip and walked to the other side of the bed, lifted the covers and lay down on her side. Wei Hui watched her movements before reaching over to turn off the bedside lamp, and the room fell silent again.
Neither was asleep, but neither spoke. Wei Hui lay with eyes open, looking to the side. After a long while, she asked: “Have you ever thought about finding your family?”
Shiyi, who had been mentally repenting her earlier actions with a heart full of remorse, was startled by the question. After a few seconds, she came back to herself: “No.”
“Don’t you want to find them?”
Shiyi shook her head: “I don’t know where to look.”
Wei Hui said in a deep voice: “What if I help you find them?”
“Would you go back?”
Shiyi turned her head in surprise: “Third Miss?”
Wei Hui asked again: “Would you go back?”
Shiyi remained silent in the darkness. Parents were just a term to her. She was found by Grandmother when she was four. Grandmother said it was right after New Year’s when she was visiting relatives and found her crouching alone in the snow, wearing tattered clothes. Grandmother took her home, changed her clothes, and brought her to the police station. They learned that her parents couldn’t be found, and she was most likely an orphan. So Grandmother took her back home and named her Shiyi.
Therefore, she had no memory of her parents at all.
But regarding Wei Huiβ Shiyi said softly: “I don’t want to, I don’t want to go back.”
It seemed that only after her bold actions toward Wei Hui did she realize she had feelings for this person.
She wanted to stay at the Wei household, stay by Wei Hui’s side, wanted to bear her child.
She agreed to that proposal, and wouldn’t ask for money.
In the darkness, Shiyi glanced sideways at the person beside her. Wei Hui lay flat, hands atop the blanket, frowning as she heard the response: “You don’t want to go home?”
Shiyi answered: “I have no other home.”
Her voice was soft yet firm. Wei Hui turned to look at her, meeting Shiyi’s gaze. In the darkness, their eyes shone as they looked at each other wordlessly. Wei Hui turned back to stare at the ceiling and soon fell asleep with steady breathing, but Shiyi couldn’t fall asleep listening to her peaceful breaths.
Afraid of doing anything improper again, she kept her eyes open all night. By morning, she had faint dark circles under her eyes and looked exhausted and listless. When Du Yueming came knocking, Wei Hui gave her a glare. Du Yueming shrank her neck and found Shiyi: “What’s wrong? Is she in a bad mood?”
Seeing Du Yueming reminded Shiyi of the item she’d given her yesterday. Though she wanted to be angry, she felt Du Yueming wasn’t wrong – in her view, Shiyi and Wei Hui did have that kind of relationship, so giving that item wasn’t unreasonable. So she still answered softly: “Maybe she didn’t sleep well last night.”
“You’re amazing, sister!” Du Yueming looked proud: “You’re really something. Did Wei Hui beg for mercy last night?”
“It wasn’t like that.”
“Not like that? Then how was it? Top and bottom? Left and right? On your sides? You two have quite the variety!”
Shiyi shook her head and entered the bathroom as Du Yueming’s words became increasingly inappropriate. Du Yueming leaned against the door, chuckling: “Hey, I’m just joking. Remember, you can’t use too much of that at once, only a small amount.”
The door opened, and Shiyi hesitated: “What happens if you use too much?”
Du Yueming laughed exaggeratedly: “Do you need to ask? You’ll lose control of yourself, of course!”
Her phone rang then. She smiled at Shiyi and turned to answer it, running into Wei Hui returning. As they faced each other, Du Yueming winked at her with a smile, making Wei Hui’s expression darken.
Encountering Wei Hui’s unfriendly expression first thing in the morning, Shiyi felt nervous. She put her changed clothes in her bag and said: “Third Miss, I’ve packed all the luggage.”
Wei Hui nodded: “There’s breakfast downstairs. Let’s go eat.”
“What about you?” Shiyi looked at Wei Hui. “Aren’t you eating?”
Wei Hui glanced sideways: “I’m not hungry yet.”
Seeing Wei Hui sitting on the sofa, her profile serene, Shiyi’s mind inexplicably returned to last night’s scene. She lowered her eyes and said sincerely: “Third Miss, are you still angry about last night? I’m sorry, I won’t do it again.”
“Last night?” Wei Hui raised her eyelids, saying softly: “What happened last night?”
Shiyi stammered: “Last night I, I k-kissedβ”
“Shiyi.” Wei Hui smiled: “Sit down.”
Shiyi didn’t hesitate to sit beside her, her face slightly flushed from her words, eyes unable to meet Wei Hui’s, darting about. Wei Hui moved closer, their fragrances intermingling. Wei Hui placed one hand on her shoulder and said casually: “That wasn’t a kiss.”
She met Shiyi’s bright eyes, leaning in slightly, her crimson lipstick striking. Shiyi closed her eyes slightly, hearing her say: “This is.”
Shiyi’s eyes widened, Wei Hui’s image becoming clearer in her pupils. She froze as Wei Hui’s tongue traced her lips. Unlike her clumsy attempts yesterday, this kiss was full of tenderness and intimacy. Her heart felt wrapped in honey, bubbling with sweetness, immense pleasure rushing through her nerves. Her hands unconsciously moved to embrace Wei Hui, but before she could touch her, Wei Hui pulled away, her lip color seemingly more vivid. She asked: “Did you remember that?”
R-remembered.
