    Plan A

    Divine Vestige 10

Su Xin looked back at Slayer, a little confused. What’s going on?

“I think… I did a pretty good job just now.”

Slayer clasped her hands, her ten fingers interwoven in front of her, and spoke with some hesitation.

A few seconds later, as if convinced by her own reasoning, a smile crept up to her brow.

“So, can I have a reward?”

That sounds like a good reason?

Su Xin could see Slayer’s nervousness, finding it both strange and a little amusing.

    “Lower your head a bit.”

Su Xin beckoned with her hand. The rogue was tall, a little taller than this body of hers; Su Xin’s head only reached her forehead.

Slayer obediently lowered her head and closed her eyes.

Su Xin kissed her on the forehead, holding the gentle press for a few seconds.

It was actually a beautiful scene. The sun was setting, hovering just above the horizon, not quite gone, its light still reflected in the sky.

And against this backdrop, a young woman in white softly kissed the forehead of a girl with her eyes closed.

Though it was but a moment, it felt like an eternity.

    “How did it feel?”

Su Xin touched her own lips. She hadn’t really felt much herself.

    “A little strange.”

Slayer touched the spot that had been kissed. Su Xin’s touch had been so light, as if something impossibly soft had landed on her forehead. But in her chest, her heart couldn’t help but start to pound—not fiercely, but slowly, in a way that even made her nose tingle with emotion.

    “Let’s go.”

    “En.”

Su Xin glanced back one last time at the Elf Forest and left without any lingering attachment.

It was a beautiful place, but that had nothing to do with whether it had a god or not.

The fall of a god sounded like a momentous event.

But Fairy hadn’t truly fallen; her godhead was still with Su Xin.

Just as Slayer had described, she was just an ‘it,’ a stream of data.

Their disappearance could allow many people to ‘live’ again.

Sha Ying had been waiting for them in a distant village. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw them approach.

It was a remote little place where the people were self-sufficient, with almost no contact with the outside world.

It was simply too isolated. A coastal area should have been very developed, but that depended on what kind of sea it bordered and what was around it.

The people here could have developed a fishing or shipping industry, but this sea was unusual. It wasn’t an ordinary sea, but the Sea of Delusion.

There were fish in it, but they could never be caught.

No boats were allowed here; nothing could float on its surface. No matter what it was, it would sink and be swallowed up.

That was why the area had become so desolate. When Su Xin and the others had arrived, they had only seen a handful of people.

Because there was no communication with the outside world, the population had dwindled.

But it wasn’t as if no one ever came here. When the game was open, this place was an instance dungeon. As long as you had a high enough level, you could come.

Many players who reached the required level would rush here at the first opportunity, but they would often return in failure.

The reason Lang Xuanxuan had been able to overthrow the Elf Queen NPC was because she had completed a hidden quest—a super, ridiculously long quest. Most people would have lost their patience long ago, but Lang Xuanxuan persisted until the very end, no matter how many times she failed, because her brother, Lang Ning, had told her there would be a surprise if she kept going. In the end, she found her way here.

    “Let’s get going.”

Sha Ying nodded and followed beside Su Xin.

“Boss, I think I’ve been feeling a bit unwell these past two days.”

Sha Ying looked dejected. He spoke as he walked, looking at Su Xin, completely at a loss.

    “What’s wrong?”

    “I keep forgetting things…”

Sha Ying’s heart was heavy. He felt like he had aged faster these last few days. He wasn’t much help, didn’t know what he was doing, and kept forgetting things. The thought of the Lost Ones made him miserable.

Would there come a day when he, too, would forget who he was, forget his girlfriend in the real world, and become just another person here? If he got killed one day, it would be a complete game over.

Su Xin patted Sha Ying’s arm and looked him up and down.

“Brother, you’re probably just lacking vitamins and under too much psychological stress. Don’t imagine the worst. At least for now, you’re not beyond saving.”

“The Lost Ones don’t just forget what they were doing. At most, you’re just suffering from amnesia. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”

    “But…”

“I know it’s not that easy, but the more you doubt yourself, the more you’ll forget. Trust me, brother, I’ll get all of you out of here.”

Sha Ying nodded, though he still didn’t look very happy.

“Try to look on the bright side.”

That was all Su Xin could say. This kind of psychological issue was something he had to regulate himself, and Su Xin wasn’t very good at comforting people.

Su Xin was used to being the strong one. She could empathize, but it depended on the person. She understood Sha Ying’s current state and knew the situation was still under control.

Slayer was admiring the scenery off to the side, a blade of grass dangling from her lips. She looked carefree and unrestrained.

They walked for half a month before reaching a more populated area.

It was a bustling harbor, the city within brightly lit with lamps.

This place was far beyond the reach of the Sea of Delusion, and the people seemed peaceful and at ease.

The flow of people here was immense. Su Xin put away her mount and Sha Ying’s as well, otherwise they would attract too much attention.

    “Are there any players?”

Sha Ying could only see the people coming and going. He seemed to recall coming here once for a quest, but he didn’t have much of an impression of it, only remembering a few NPCs he had interacted with.

    “Yes, and quite a few.”

Su Xin’s eyes scanned the heads of the people. There were many Lost Ones and NPCs, but there were also a good number of players.

    “How many?”

“There are at least ten over here.”

Su Xin pointed to a distant area where at least a few hundred people were milling about.

“Don’t worry about them. Let’s find a place to rest first.”

    “Three rooms.”

“My apologies, Your Excellency, but we’re completely full.”

The innkeeper said apologetically. Running a small inn here, one never had to worry about a lack of business, as there were simply too many people passing through.

“Is that so? Sorry to have bothered you.”

This was already the third inn Su Xin had tried. All of them were packed, even the large communal rooms were full.

    “It’s really lively here.”

Sha Ying folded his arms, occasionally glancing at the vendors selling their wares.

“If we can’t find a place to stay, we might have to spend the night on the streets.”

Slayer didn’t mind. She could sleep on rooftops or in trees. But she felt that a mage like Su Xin, being so delicate and frail, couldn’t possibly sleep just anywhere.

    “Should we go back?”

When they had been staying in the wild, they had slept on the backs of their magical beasts. All of Su Xin’s mounts were huge in their full forms, large enough to lie on and sleep comfortably.

“No need. We’ll go to the Magician’s Guild.”

    “But you’re the only magician.”

    “It’s fine.”

They went to the Magician’s Guild, where someone came to receive them.

“How many magicians are in your party?”

    “Just me.”

Su Xin put on her magician’s insignia.

“Lord Magician, is there anything I can do for you?”

The moment the receptionist saw the magician’s insignia on Su Xin’s chest, her expression immediately became respectful.

A high-level magician would be respected wherever they went.

“My friends and I need a place to stay, but many places here are full.”

The receptionist’s gaze swept over Slayer and Sha Ying, her sweet smile unwavering.

“Of course, my lord. We will arrange it for you immediately.”

“Oh… my apologies, my lord, we only have two rooms left. If you are willing, would it be possible…? If it’s inconvenient, you can wait a moment. We will take care of it and clear out another room for you and your friends.”

“It’s fine, two rooms are enough.”

    Su Xin nodded.

    “Will you be requiring dinner?”

    “Yes.”

“Very well. Please wait a moment.”

The receptionist registered them and handed over a magic plaque.

“Someone will show you the way. I wish you and your friends a pleasant evening.”

    “Thank you.”

Someone led the way in front, and the three of them followed behind.

Sha Ying went into one room. Just as Su Xin was about to enter hers, she saw Slayer preparing to head to the roof.

    “Slayer?”

    “What is it?”

    “Where are you going?”

    “To sleep.”

    “You’re not coming in?”

“Are you saying… I’m sleeping in the same room as you tonight?”

Slayer was a little surprised. She hadn’t assumed that. Since there were only two rooms, it would be one for Sha Ying and one for Su Xin. She would be fine on the roof.

    “What else?”

It was a very logical arrangement.

    “I thought…”

“Or do you prefer sleeping on the roof?”

Su Xin rested one hand on the door, pushing it open with her back to Slayer before turning her head to ask.

“Of course not! It’s hard as a rock.”

    “Then come on in.”

Su Xin closed the door. It was clearly a very well-appointed room.

Of course, the Magician’s Guild wouldn’t let a high-level magician stay in some shabby little place.

The bed was huge, more than enough for two people. It was wide enough for three adults to roll around on.

The quality of the quilt was excellent, and even the tea set was exquisite.

“If I didn’t know better, I’d think this was some noble lady’s room.”

Slayer sat down in a chair and poured herself a glass of water.

Su Xin wasn’t surprised. Magicians generally lived in very comfortable places and rarely traveled, which was why their bodies were generally weaker—they didn’t need to engage in close-quarters combat.

There was even a hot spring thoughtfully prepared, since not all magicians were water-elemental and they needed to clean themselves.

There were even bathrobes in the wardrobe. Su Xin felt like she was in some five-star hotel.

Before Su Xin could get ready for her bath, there was a knock on the door.

“Respected Lord Magician, your dinner and your friend’s has been prepared and placed on the small table outside the door. You may retrieve it at your convenience.”

    “Alright.”

Su Xin replied, gesturing for Slayer to get the dinner.

Slayer didn’t actually need to eat or sleep, but since there were two portions, she ate anyway.

There were also two glasses of wine on the tray, which looked quite romantic.

“I’m going to take a bath. Want to join?”

    “Of course.”

She was a human now, Slayer thought, so she had to eat, sleep, and bathe… that was a matter of course, right?
