Want to Run Away With the Ball?

    Gotten Bold

Lin Sifei shifted her bottom, burying her face in the crack of the sofa.

After lying there for a while, she started to get drowsy and wanted to sleep.

She was only halfway asleep when her butt was suddenly smacked.

Lin Sifei’s eyes shot open. She looked up at Luo Ke, stunned.

Luo Ke’s expression was cold. “Did you think you wouldn’t have to work just because you’re a cat? Get up and take some pictures.”

Lin Sifei was still in a daze as a phone was placed in front of her. Luo Ke was planning to give her an in-your-face shot.1

However, Lin Sifei knew all too well about her crappy photography skills, her socially-lethal2 photo angles and manual Gaussian blur.

She immediately leaped up and placed a paw on Luo Ke’s wrist.

“Meow, meow, meow!” I’ll do it myself!

Luo Ke raised an eyebrow, switched the phone to selfie mode, and then helped by holding up a light for her.

Lin Sifei took a deep breath and pushed the light a little farther away with her paw.

She looked at herself in the lens, beautifully extended one paw, rested her cheek on it, and widened her eyes adorably.

After taking a dozen shots in a row, she picked out three and diligently edited them.

Once the editing was done, Luo Ke took the phone and posted the three pictures.

【Aaaahhh! What wonderful day is it today, to be blessed with beautiful pictures twice!】

【Person above, where was the other time?!】

Someone immediately tagged Boss Fang, then continued to scream in excitement, hoping for more photos.

For the next few days, Lin Sifei experienced in every possible way what it meant to have to work even as a cat.

Every day, Luo Ke had Auntie Wu cook a variety of dishes and even made all sorts of all-fish banquets herself, determined to help her recuperate.

Then, every day, she would herd Lin Sifei onto the treadmill, followed by photo and video shoots.

Lin Sifei’s paws flew across the keyboard as she attacked her.

【You’re actually making a cat work, are you even human?!】

As a salted fish3 who stayed up late, was addicted to games, and hated exercise, she really couldn’t get used to such a disciplined lifestyle.

Luo Ke poured a glass of water and took a sip. “This is the perfect time to train you while you’re recovering. Your schedule is always a mess, and you love to eat junk food.”

Lin Sifei covered her face, whimpering. What a trashy scum woman. No wonder she hadn’t kissed her recently. It was intentional. She was afraid that if Lin Sifei turned back into a human, she would go out and fool around, so she deliberately wasn’t kissing her.

Lin Sifei scratched furiously at the scratching post. Luo Ke really wasn’t acting human!4

Just as she was fuming, the doorbell rang.

Lin Sifei immediately looked up, kicked off with her legs, and leaped over, eager to be the cat who opened the door. Anything to avoid more exercise.

She zipped past Luo Ke and jumped up to hang on the doorknob before she could.

Luo Ke couldn’t help but laugh, letting her swing her body to open the door.

Standing outside were Bai Xingrui and Diana. Bai Xingrui bounced in with a smile. “Ta-da! Where’s the gorgeous superstar?”

Luo Ke gave her a death glare, and behind her, Diana’s own death glare shot into the back of her head.

Bai Xingrui sheepishly rubbed her nose and turned to hug Diana. “Look, look, I brought my partner. You don’t have to worry anymore.”

Diana’s gaze softened as she reached out to ruffle her hair.

Luo Ke sneered. “Your partner… doesn’t seem all that trustworthy either.”

Diana instantly glared over, as if a Siberian cold wind was radiating from her entire body.

Lin Sifei felt like her face was about to freeze. She turned back to Luo Ke. “Meow, meow, meow!”

Luo Ke looked down and scooped her up, rubbing her in her arms.

Lin Sifei nuzzled her hand and looked up, letting out a soft meow.

Luo Ke took a deep breath, understood her meaning, and stopped targeting them. “Come in.”

Bai Xingrui pushed the door open and came in, setting down the gift she was carrying. “Where’s Feifei?”

    “Not home.”

“Huh?” Bai Xingrui was a little confused. “I specifically checked that she wasn’t on set before I came.”

“She went out. She’s been working too hard lately and needs to rest and recover.”

Bai Xingrui believed her but looked at her with shock. “She went to recuperate, and you’re still at home playing? You’re such a scumbag.”

Lin Sifei could clearly see a vein pop on Luo Ke’s forehead. She quickly patted her chest, telling her to calm down.

Sigh, she’s been your best friend for years, you absolutely can’t beat her to death. Besides, she found herself a partner who can really fight.

Lin Sifei recalled the events of that day again. The way Diana descended from the sky was just too cool.

Luo Ke saw her eyes glued to Diana again and covered them with her hand.

Jealous again. Lin Sifei sighed and lay down on Luo Ke’s lap.

When Bai Xingrui saw Lin Sifei, she reached out, wanting to hold her.

Luo Ke smacked her hand away and hugged Lin Sifei closer to her side.

Bai Xingrui put on a wounded expression and collapsed onto Diana.

Luo Ke’s eyes swept over them. “You two are on good terms now?”

“Ah, it’s okay for now.” Bai Xingrui flicked her hair, not minding at all that Diana was right there. “Still in the trial period.”

“Are you trying her out, or is she trying you out?”

Bai Xingrui tossed her hair. “Of course I’m trying her out.”

Diana looked at her and nodded in agreement.

Luo Ke understood. Bai Xingrui was the one being tried out. But seeing the two of them, the trial period was probably something Bai Xingrui’s parents had forced on them.5

“Did you two just come over to show off your love?”

Bai Xingrui quickly shook her head, looking away awkwardly. “I’ve been wanting to put on a fashion show recently, and I’m still a bit short on investment.”

“Investment is simple. What benefits do I get?” Luo Ke stroked the cat’s fur and leaned back on the sofa, looking like she was about to fleece someone.

Bai Xingrui knew it. Even though they were best friends, Luo Ke never went easy on her.6 If there was no benefit, she wouldn’t budge an inch.

“The show can promote Luo Corporation! My styles are very diverse this time, and you could incorporate some of them into the company.”

Luo Ke looked disgusted. “No one would buy those clothes of yours even if you hung them up.”

Bai Xingrui was a designer with a typically bold style; the clothes she designed were basically unwearable in public. Luo Corporation’s apparel company, on the other hand, focused on ordinary, mass-market designs, on a completely different path from her fashion.

“I can collaborate with Luo Corporation,” Diana said, her Mandarin much more standard now.

Luo Ke’s eyes shifted slightly. “After collaborating, it’s not certain who would benefit more.”

“It can be a win-win.” Diana lowered her gaze slightly, her long lashes hiding her blue eyes. “My brand is more famous than Luo Corporation’s, and my designers are stronger. After collaborating, we can redesign using Rui’er’s design elements.”

Bai Xingrui nodded repeatedly. “You can extract elements from my designs to create new clothes. Don’t be so inflexible.”

Luo Ke snorted. “Then you could just invest directly. Why go through such a big detour?”

“Because Rui’er’s family said that since we aren’t married yet, our finances should be kept separate.”

Luo Ke’s hand, which was petting the cat, paused. True, Bai Xingrui’s method of using designs as a substitute for money wasn’t clearly priced and could easily lead to disputes.

“I can consider it. I’ll have the legal team draw up a contract,” Luo Ke said, propping her head on her hand.

Bai Xingrui hadn’t expected it to be so simple. “How did you agree so quickly?”

She had originally prepared all sorts of methods to brainwash her, and had even thought about how she would grovel.

“Well, why don’t you come take a look? My venue is all set up and is being renovated right now.”

Luo Ke just wanted to stay home and train her cat. “No need.”

“Come on, come on.” Bai Xingrui felt her conscience wouldn’t be clear if she didn’t go; she felt like she had secured the investment through emotional blackmail.

Hearing this, Lin Sifei’s eyes lit up. As long as they went out, Luo Ke would let her off the hook. And given Bai Xingrui’s level of cat-huffing,7 she could easily trick her into getting some junk food.

She immediately started meowing, “Meow, meow, meow,” and crawled toward Bai Xingrui.

Bai Xingrui’s heart instantly melted, and she pounced forward to catch the cat.

However, Lin Sifei had only taken the first step of her ten-thousand-li journey when she was ruthlessly intercepted by Luo Ke. She picked up the cat and held her. “Is there anything else? If not, you can go.”

Bai Xingrui was desperate for the cat, so how could she leave obediently? “Just come with me and take a look. You can use your business eye to help me check things out.”

“As if you’d listen to anything I say,” Luo Ke sneered.

Bai Xingrui looked up at the sky innocently. Alright, she really wouldn’t listen.

She had the common flaw of most designers: her eyes were higher than the top of her head.8 She was devoted to her art. Everyone else’s words were bullshit, people who didn’t understand art. Only her own work had soul.

“Just come take a look. This is my first collection since I came back. I think it’s quite different from before.”

With such a sincere invitation, Luo Ke finally relented and got in the car, holding the cat.

As the invited guest, she certainly wasn’t the one driving. She sat in the back, quietly stroking the cat.

The car soon drove into a large plaza. “It’s over here.”

Bai Xingrui led the way in front, walking into a spacious, rough-looking building. Inside, many workers were busy with renovations. Beautiful flower boats were suspended in mid-air.

Lin Sifei’s mouth fell slightly open as she stared at the display above, unable to look away.

“These flower boats can actually move,” Bai Xingrui said with a smile. “They just aren’t ready yet, so we can’t go up for now. Once the show is over, I can bring you here to play.”

    Lin Sifei nodded frantically.

Bai Xingrui froze, looking at her. “Can… can she understand?”

Lin Sifei’s neck stiffened. Luo Ke pinched her neck. “This cat has been acting up recently. She just nods at everything.”

Given an out, Lin Sifei immediately nodded again.

Luo Ke chuckled lightly. “Xiao Xiao is a big dummy.”

Enduring humiliation to carry out her mission,9 Lin Sifei continued to nod.

Luo Ke couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Lin Sifei turned her head and shot her a glare. Just you wait. When we get home, all your clothes will be gone. Prepare to face a cat’s claws and teeth.

“This place is near the airport.” Bai Xingrui led them to the second floor. “There’s a screen here. When the time comes, I’ll drop the curtain, and behind it will be planes gliding past. A collision of modern and artistic sensibilities.”

“That’s quite an idea.” Luo Ke hadn’t expected her to come up with such a trick, making use of existing elements.

Bai Xingrui’s ears turned red shyly. “It was actually Diana’s idea.”

Luo Ke glanced at the white-haired beauty beside them and gave a slight nod. “Thank you for taking care of her.”

“I like her, so of course I have to take care of her.” Diana put her arm around Bai Xingrui’s shoulders.

Bai Xingrui’s cheeks also reddened, though it wasn’t very visible on her dark skin. She shot Diana a glare, but the smile never left her face.

After looking around the venue, the group slowly walked out.

There really wasn’t anything to eat near the airport. They had to head back before noon, or they’d go hungry.

Just as they reached the car, a foreign man with blond hair and ruby earrings came over, pulling a suitcase.

“Hello, I’d like to ask, where is this place?”

He handed a slip of paper to Diana. Diana wasn’t familiar with the locations here either, so she passed it to Bai Xingrui.

“This…” Bai Xingrui looked confused. “This looks like an office building. It’s in the city center, but I can’t say for sure which road.”

She took out her phone. “Let me check the map.”

“Thank you!” The blond man smiled, revealing dimples.

Bai Xingrui’s eyes couldn’t help but light up again. Oh my, this little gege is so handsome. I can totally go for him!

She smiled while checking the map. “It’s on Century Avenue.”

She looked at the man and smiled. “Why don’t we give you a ride?”

Diana’s brow twitched. She said to the man, “You sit in the back.”

Luo Ke looked at Bai Xingrui. “Then I’ll take the front passenger seat.”

In the end, Diana drove, the blond man sat in the front passenger seat, and Luo Ke and Bai Xingrui sat in the back.

Bai Xingrui, being a face-dog,10 had no resistance to good-looking men or women.

    She beamed. “What’s your name?”

“My name is Erik Wesley Enwort.”

“What’s your name?” Bai Xingrui looked completely lost.

“My name is Erik Wesley Enwort.” This time, the blond man thoughtfully slowed down. Perhaps knowing his name was too long, he smiled and said, “You can call me Erik.”

“Hello, Erik. I’m Bai Xingrui.” She smiled and extended her hand.

Erik also extended his hand and shook hers.

After the handshake, he looked at Luo Ke beside him. Luo Ke was coolly looking at the cat in her lap, her hands engaged in a great war with the cat’s four paws.

Erik awkwardly retracted his hand. “Are you all here to pick someone up?”

“No, I’m a designer. I came here to check on the renovation of my show venue.”

Erik looked confused. That sentence contained vocabulary he hadn’t learned. Although his Mandarin was decent, he could really only handle simple daily conversations.

    “Haha, models, fashion design, venue.”

With the simple word breakdown, Erik understood. “You’re very impressive.”

“Not at all, not at all.”

Bai Xingrui waved her hands very modestly.

Diana watched the two of them chatting happily and suddenly slammed on the brakes.

Bai Xingrui’s head hit the seat in front. She clutched her forehead in pain. “What are you doing?!”

“I hit the wrong pedal.” Diana shot a cold glance at Erik.

Erik wasn’t stupid. He understood the look in her eyes, silently sat up straight, and stopped chatting so much, only answering when asked a question.

Seeing this, Bai Xingrui seemed to be used to it. She reached out and tugged Diana’s long hair. “Jealous again.”

Diana was also used to having her hair pulled and remained very calm.

“Erik, what are you here for?” Bai Xingrui still wanted to talk. She remembered that Erik had come with an address for a commercial building, so he probably wasn’t here for tourism.

“I’m here to find someone,” Erik said with a smile. “A younger sister from my family went missing when she was a child. I’m looking for her.”

Bai Xingrui looked surprised. “Oh, is that so? I hope you find her soon.”

“I will.” He smiled and nodded.

After dropping him off, Erik happily thanked them.

Diana drove to find a restaurant. After eating, Luo Ke rejected Bai Xingrui’s invitation to hang out more and took the cat straight home.

Back home, Lin Sifei lay on the sofa, her stomach grumbling.

The restaurant they went to was obviously a human restaurant, with basically nothing for a cat to eat. Although Bai Xingrui had bought cat food and canned cat food, she was a human at heart and had little interest in that stuff. She still preferred freshly made cat meals.

“Your cat is so picky,” Bai Xingrui had complained.

Lin Sifei’s favorability rating for her plummeted. How dare she say I’m picky? The food was just bad!

She had been completely spoiled by Luo Ke.

Luo Ke knew she hadn’t eaten much, so she started making food for her as soon as they got back.

Lin Sifei looked at the full bowl of cat food but was very wary. She typed: 【Are you sure I don’t have to run on the treadmill this time?】

“You don’t have to. I made you run to exercise your body. You’ve had enough exercise for today. Eat up.”

Lin Sifei immediately pounced on the cat food and feasted.

After eating, she lay blissfully on the sofa.

Luo Ke brought a handkerchief to wipe her mouth and paws.

Lin Sifei’s ears twitched. She lay on Luo Ke’s lap, dragged over the tablet, and looked for a variety show to watch.

The season of The Journey that she had filmed before had already finished airing, and she hadn’t even watched it.

She immediately clicked on the video. This episode was right when they were making their great escape, and everyone was scattering.

The program team’s main camera focused on Lin Sifei and Feng Tingyun, as they were the two most famous.

Lin Sifei’s side was all thanks to Luo Ke’s cheating. The program team knew they had announced their relationship and openly edited Luo Ke into the show. As a result, everyone saw Luo Ke blatantly going easy on Lin Sifei.

The subtitling team even mischievously added wide, noodle-like tears and a small arrow pointing at Luo Ke.

“The investor mommy, can’t afford to offend her QAQ”

The bullet comments were all “hahaha,” saying it was too sweet.

【So President Luo really was there for Feifei.】

【You go crazy, I’ll take care of the escape route.】

【This isn’t just going easy on her, this is opening the floodgates!】

Lying on her stomach, Lin Sifei watched the bullet comments, her old face blushing.

Ahem, this program team is so shameless. How could they just show something like that? Although Luo Ke did go easy on me, wouldn’t it be better if everyone just knew it tacitly?

Lin Sifei became the first person to arrive and also tipped off the others.

The camera cut to when everyone received the message. Yan Yafei had already been caught by then, her phone confiscated.

Xu You was hiding in a haystack, wearing a straw hat for cover.

Feng Tingyun and Lu Heng were more audacious, riding around on a bicycle. Lu Heng, in the back, received the message and stood up on the seat to give Feng Tingyun directions.

    【It really is real.】

    【This is kinda shippable.】

    【But they had a falling out. My CP11 got a bad ending.】

    【It can’t be!】

The camera quickly cut to the two of them breaking through the siege. Feng Tingyun let out a loud shout and, with Lu Heng’s tacit cooperation, broke through the defensive line.

Their movements were slick, like something out of a martial arts movie.

【Fuck,12 as expected of the Film Emperor, amazing.】

【The two of them have such great chemistry.】

【How close do you have to be to understand each other’s secret signals?】

    【My CP is real.】

However, the happy bullet comments didn’t last long before the solo stans arrived on the battlefield, and the two fanbases started tearing each other apart.

Lu Heng had also accumulated some fans, and although they weren’t numerous, there were also Feng Tingyun’s anti-fans, so the fight was evenly matched.

Only then did Lin Sifei realize. Oh, right. What’s the situation with those two? Are they planning to reconcile or not?

She immediately went online to dig for news. However, Feng Tingyun, who had been quite active before, was completely silent recently. He hadn’t interacted with fans, and hadn’t even announced a new schedule.

Lin Sifei went to check on Lu Heng; he was just as quiet.

The variety show had indeed pushed the two of them onto the hot search again. Fans were all demanding an explanation.

Lin Sifei looked at the fans’ comments and sighed helplessly. This really is pretty uncool of them. No matter what the outcome, they owe their fans an explanation.

Just as she finished that thought, Feng Tingyun posted on Weibo.

Lin Sifei was a little stunned and immediately went to look.

【Feng Tingyun: Thank you all for your companionship for so long. Lu Heng and I met when we were just starting out. I developed feelings for him back then. We went through a lot in between, and I still haven’t been accepted. A lot of what was said before was due to a misunderstanding. Now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, I am still pursuing him. Regarding the issue of a fake persona mentioned in the video, I am actually a rather short-tempered person, not as gentle as I appeared. I’m very sorry for deceiving everyone for so long. There are many different opinions online right now, but the only ones I have wronged are you, the fans. I am sorry for deceiving you.】

Feng Tingyun’s self-exposure of his persona immediately sent him to the top of the hot search.

However, this wave didn’t cause many fans to leave; instead, a group of them comforted him.

    【Does Yun-ge still think he’s gentle?】

【What kind of misunderstanding does Yun-ge have about himself? Look at how you were selling things on the variety show. Gentle? It’s like I don’t even know those two words.】

【Sigh, my baby is really too innocent. We already knew you weren’t like that.】

【Even though you’re not gentle, you’re gentle to your fans! Your reply letters are all real.】

Seeing this comment, Lin Sifei did a search and discovered that Feng Tingyun actually replied to fan letters frequently and even helped fans solve real-life problems.

No wonder his fans were so devoted.

【I hope Yun-ge successfully woos his beloved soon!】

【My Feng Yu Yun are all here, I’ll always be with Yun-ge!】

【Will Yun-ge show his true self in the future? I don’t know if I should unfollow. I don’t know if I’ll love the real you QAQ】

Feng Tingyun replied to this one: 【I will show my true self. Whether you like it or not doesn’t matter. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Liking someone is very pure; don’t let it become a burden.】

Lin Sifei put down her phone and lay on her back on the sofa.

She felt that Feng Tingyun’s confession was even more high-profile than hers. Back when she and Luo Ke made their official announcement, it was mutual love, and everyone was screaming their blessings.

What was that kind of bland stuff compared to the thrill of an angsty love so deep,13 of loving but being unable to have?14

Lin Sifei silently clenched her paws, looked at Luo Ke who was handling documents beside her, and quickly typed.

【President Luo, how about a ‘you chase me, I run from you,’ angsty-love-so-deep, love-but-cannot-have, past-lives-and-present-fates kind of thing?】

Luo Ke’s hand, which was propping up her chin, dropped. She looked down at her. “What? Are you also thinking of running away with the ball?”15
