Recovering from Injuries | Connects to the Main Story

    “Let’s get married.”

Luo Ke looked into her eyes, choking up. Just as she was about to nod, Lin Sifei’s eyes blinked twice, as if unable to bear the weight of her eyelids, and then fluttered shut.

Luo Ke shot to her feet. “Xiao Xiao? Xiao Xiao?”

Lin Sifei didn’t react; she had completely lost consciousness.

Luo Ke frantically pressed the call bell, summoning all the attending physicians.

Hearing the urgent ringing, doctors and nurses rushed over. After a careful examination, they breathed a sigh of relief.

“This is normal. The anesthesia hasn’t worn off yet,” the doctor said, relieved, and they each left.

Luo Ke let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding and sat back down on the stool, watching the sleeping Lin Sifei.

Her phone rang. It was Zhao Min.

“President Luo, Yan Yafei’s court date has been set.”

Luo Ke’s eyes lowered slightly. She told her to instruct everyone to be a bit more discreet recently and not to leave any traces.

Exiting the message list, she saw the sleeping cat on her screensaver and suddenly froze.

She snapped her head up to look at Lin Sifei. That’s right! It seemed Lin Sifei hadn’t turned into a cat this whole time.

The time for it had long since passed.

Luo Ke frowned, looking at Lin Sifei. She opened her phone to note the time, planning to keep a close watch on her.

If she suddenly turned into a cat, it would be very troublesome. Should she call a veterinarian over first?

Just in case, she had Special Assistant Lin contact a veterinarian and arrange for them to be near the hospital.

Lin Sifei remained unconscious, sleeping for a full day, and stayed in her human form the entire time.

Luo Ke’s eyes were bloodshot, but she felt a little more at ease. She gently brushed a strand of hair away from Lin Sifei’s forehead.

After Lin Sifei woke up, Luo Ke told her about how she hadn’t turned into a cat. Lin Sifei wanted to try, but Luo Ke stopped her.

“In your current state, if you turn into a cat, what will happen to the steel pins in your body?”

Although Luo Ke’s intention was simply to state a fact, Lin Sifei’s mind conjured a bloody scene, and she couldn’t help but shiver.

With Yan Yafei arrested and her trial imminent, Lin Sifei, as the victim, was also the focus of the media. Every day, people surrounded the hospital, staking it out.

Luo Ke didn’t want these things to disturb Lin Sifei’s rest, so she posted on Weibo, detailing Lin Sifei’s injuries and providing the recovery time estimated by the doctors.

It would take about half a year before she could move around normally, and she couldn’t overexert herself.

The fans cried their hearts out, both aching for her physical condition and worrying that this delay would prevent her from filming for the foreseeable future.

All this anger was naturally directed at Yan Yafei.

Luo Ke, however, paid no attention to this. She only cared about Lin Sifei’s recovery.

Lin Sifei was worried about something even more specific than she was: her hair.

Because of the injury on her head, the nurse-jiejie had mercilessly shaved the hair around her wound. Now she had a bald patch, as ugly as could be.

After Luo Ke took the mirror away for the Nth time, Lin Sifei finally couldn’t take it anymore. “You think it’s super ugly too, don’t you.”

“It doesn’t look any different,” Luo Ke said, pinching her chin and studying her carefully. “Your face is beautiful, so even like this, it just has a different kind of aesthetic.”

Lin Sifei didn’t believe her for a second. She tilted her chin up slightly. “Then tell me, what kind of aesthetic?”

Luo Ke’s expression froze for a moment. Then, she put on an air of careful observation and deep contemplation. “There’s a sense of frailness, a bit of the tragic feeling of a withered flower, and also a touch of crazed, sharp beauty.”

Lin Sifei stared at her. “Thinking up such a long phrase couldn’t have been easy, huh.”

Luo Ke took a deep breath. “I really don’t think it’s ugly. Besides, it’ll grow back.”

Lin Sifei couldn’t resist asking Luo Ke to bring the mirror over again. Looking at the smooth patch of skin, she sighed silently.

The vitality of youth is always vigorous, just like hair that will gradually grow long. After a month of recuperation, Lin Sifei could finally cruise around in a wheelchair.

Sitting in her wheelchair, Lin Sifei looked in the mirror at the short stubble of hair that had grown back and nodded in satisfaction.

The wound on her head had already scabbed over, and she no longer wore gauze on the small injury on her forehead.

The doctor said this wound might leave a scar.

Luo Ke was very nervous when she found out. Xiao Xiao loved beauty; she would probably find it hard to accept having a scar on her face.

She worried for a long time, but as it turned out, Lin Sifei was quite accepting of it, even refusing Luo Ke’s suggestion for scar removal treatment.

“I think it’s fine. It can be a testament.”

“A testament to what? This kind of memory isn’t good at all.” Luo Ke knelt in front of the wheelchair and kissed the back of her hand.

Lin Sifei smiled, her fingers brushing against Luo Ke’s lips, but she didn’t say anything.

She didn’t plan on telling Luo Ke what it was a testament to, afraid it would make her sad.

When the car overturned and the sharp pain hit her, she had only one thought in her mind: she hadn’t married Luo Ke yet.

She had been quite afraid of marriage, but when she truly faced life and death, her biggest regret was actually that.

This feeling of regret had clung to her heart, which was why she had woken up before the anesthesia wore off, looked at Luo Ke, and said she wanted to marry her.

Lin Sifei sat in her electric wheelchair, zipping around like a child in a toy car. Luo Ke just followed closely beside her, watching to make sure she didn’t fall.

Lin Sifei carefully sized up Luo Ke. After that day, Luo Ke hadn’t brought up the subject again. It was as if the two of them had tacitly put the matter to the back of their minds.

This made her breathe a small sigh of relief. She had promised Luo Ke a shocking and unforgettable proposal, but the “shocking and unforgettable” part of this post-car-accident proposal wasn’t the kind she wanted!

She mentally schemed about how to plan it. She couldn’t delay for too long, but she also had to consider her physical condition.

“What are you thinking about?” Luo Ke noticed she was lost in thought and paused the electric wheelchair’s controls, afraid she might accidentally crash into a wall.

Lin Sifei snapped back to reality. Unwilling to say what she was really thinking, her eyes darted to the window. “Let’s go down and bask in the sun today. I haven’t seen sunlight in so long, I’m going to die.”

“Don’t talk like that,” Luo Ke said, her brow furrowing slightly.

Lin Sifei stuck out her tongue, knowing that Luo Ke had suddenly become superstitious about certain words.

There weren’t many people in the hospital. Luo Ke followed behind, watching Lin Sifei maneuver the wheelchair into the elevator.

Outside the inpatient building was a large lawn. The moment they went out, the air felt fresh. The sun shone down from above; the afternoon sun was still a bit strong.

Lin Sifei squinted, still not quite used to the bright light.

“I must have scared you this time, didn’t I? I’m sorry.” Lin Sifei reached out and took Luo Ke’s hand.

Luo Ke half-knelt, reaching out to stroke her head. “Don’t say sorry. The best thing is that you’re still by my side.”

Lin Sifei smiled, revealing her small, sharp canines. “It’s a promise. I’ll stay with you. I won’t go back on my word.”

“Mm.” Luo Ke kissed the back of her hand and sat on the lawn, face to face with her.

As Lin Sifei looked at her, her brow suddenly furrowed. She glanced to one side, where a man in a beige coat was turning away.

Luo Ke followed her gaze. “Paparazzi?”

Lin Sifei nodded. “He took a picture.”

Luo Ke contacted someone. Soon, security guards came to escort the man out, confiscating his camera and deleting the photos.

Seeing the paparazzi reminded Lin Sifei to ask about Yan Yafei’s situation. That woman had tried to murder her with premeditation; she couldn’t be let off easily.

“She’s already been arrested,” Luo Ke said softly.

She didn’t tell Lin Sifei that Yan Yafei had also suffered multiple fractures—in her hands, feet, and ribs—and that they were crushed by repeated impacts.

After all, having a man who was a trained fighter deliberately smash into her was more than enough to do severe damage. Her internal organs were also damaged to some extent, and a portion had to be removed.

But this had nothing to do with Lin Sifei. For such a vicious person to meet a vicious end… even mentioning it to Xiao Xiao would be dirtying her ears.

When Lin Sifei heard Yan Yafei had been arrested, she snorted coldly. “I hope she gets a heavy sentence. This isn’t the first time she’s tried to harm me.”

“We’ll have the lawyers bring that up.”

This would lengthen Yan Yafei’s prison sentence. Although Erik would certainly spend a fortune on a legal team, Luo Ke was well-prepared. She would make sure the other side suffered a crushing defeat.

Lin Sifei looked down at Luo Ke and saw the faint smile on her lips, and her own couldn’t help but curve upwards.

Her President Luo was truly wonderful—so caring and so capable. Simply perfect.

“Luo Ke, why are you so good? I’ve never met anyone as good as you.”

Luo Ke looked up, a little surprised. “Am I that good?”

“Of course.” Lin Sifei nodded earnestly. “Wow, don’t tell me you never knew.”

Luo Ke tilted her head and thought for a moment. “I think I have a lot of problems. Didn’t you used to say I was too controlling?”

“That’s a kind of love, too. And I don’t find it annoying at all when you’re controlling.” Lin Sifei grinned. “You must know some kind of amazing magic. You’re a fairy, aren’t you?”

    “Maybe I’m a witch.”

    “Then you’re a beautiful witch.”

Hearing her words, Luo Ke’s eyes curved up. “Well, if I’m so good, when are you planning to marry me?”

Lin Sifei’s smile instantly froze on her face. Why did she have to bring it up! Couldn’t she just wait for her to think of a stunning and unforgettable proposal?!

She puffed out her cheeks. “I already said you have to wait for me to propose. You’re a little too desperate to get married,1 aren’t you?”

“I am, I am. Who was it that said Xiao Xiao would be the one to propose? Of course I can’t wait to be married, right?”

Lin Sifei retorted, “Well, I want to be married too.”

Luo Ke couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “You’re really something. What’s the difference?”

“I don’t know, but I want to be married too.”

Luo Ke nodded. “Alright, alright. I’ll marry you, and you’ll marry me. So, when’s the proposal?”

“Wait a little longer. I haven’t thought of it yet.”

Luo Ke knelt on the ground, placing her hands on the wheelchair’s armrests and trapping Lin Sifei between them. “You haven’t thought of it yet? I’m getting impatient.”

“Soon, soon,” Lin Sifei said hurriedly, afraid Luo Ke would go back on her word.

Luo Ke smiled and poked her cheek. “Okay, I’ll wait a little longer then.”

Lin Sifei let out a sigh of relief, then noticed that Luo Ke’s fingers hadn’t left her face but were slowly tracing her cheek.

Lin Sifei’s ears turned red in a flash. She stammered, “Wh-what are you doing?”

“You’ve lost weight.” There was a hint of disappointment in Luo Ke’s eyes. “You’ve been recuperating for so long, but you’re still getting thinner. There’s no meat on your face at all.”

Lin Sifei raised a hand to touch her own cheek. It did seem less round than before.

“It’s fine. I’m focusing on recovering my strength right now. You can fatten me up slowly.”

Luo Ke smiled and gave her a kiss. “Okay, I’ll fatten you up slowly. I’ll make it my goal to make you chubbier than before by next year.”

Lin Sifei refused with a straight face. “No way. Being too fat looks terrible on camera.”

    “Then you should exercise more.”

“How do you get fat from exercising?”

“Turn soft fat into solid muscle. Firm flesh.”

“Tasty, is it? Are you raising a pig?”

“Not raising a pig, but still tasty.”

“Ehh~ You’re thinking about that again.”

“You’re clearly the one thinking about it. I didn’t say anything.”

    “You did!”

    “I did not.”

The author has something to say:

I wanted to write Yan Yafei’s ending in more detail, but it would definitely involve under-the-table dealings and the like, which seems a bit sensitive, so I don’t really dare to write it. You all understand. Anyway, it won’t be comfortable for her once she’s in there.

A super big heart for you all.
