    A Little Answer

Inside MILK Bar, the DJ music throbbed loud enough to shake the heavens, activating the most unrestrained and excited factors within the human body; the darkness granted souls their freest release.

It also gave human nature its most arrogant delusions.

Screams and joyous shouts filled the bar.

Cheng Jiqing1 felt that hand slowly creep up from her waist, until it touched something. Cheng Jiqing’s mind went weng2, and her body instantly heated up.

In this deafening environment, her body froze.

    Was Bai Xin3 crazy?!

In a place like this! Qin Yufu4 and Song Ling5 were still around, and especially before the lights dimmed, Qin Yufu had been right beside her!

She hurriedly pulled Bai Xin’s hand down. It was pitch black all around, and she wanted to lead the person out of the dance floor.

However, in the next second, Bai Xin grabbed her hand in return. The lighting was ridiculously dim; Bai Xin was already standing right in front of her.

She couldn’t even see Bai Xin’s entire face clearly.

“30 seconds!!!” The countdown to the lights coming on blared from the DJ booth.

Amidst the explosive DJ music and screams, in the atmosphere of darkness and danger, they couldn’t see each other clearly, and others couldn’t see them either.

But after 30 seconds, the lights would turn back on.

Cheng Jiqing’s hand tightened slightly, like a warning—if they didn’t leave now, they would really be discovered. But Bai Xin still didn’t move.

    Instead, she pulled her back…

Cheng Jiqing was caught off guard and pulled forward.

At the same time, Bai Xin was also approaching. Her hand slipped away from Cheng Jiqing’s warm palm, and then both her hands rested on Cheng Jiqing’s neck, lightly encircling it as she tilted her head up.

    In the darkness.

The two were merely inches apart6.

    Their breaths mingled.

The surroundings were filled with a chaotic mix of smoke and alcohol, blended with various perfumes, yet Cheng Jiqing could only smell the lily fragrance on Bai Xin.

Even though that scent was incredibly faint.

An Omega’s body was too fragrant and soft, pressing against her as if boneless.

Cheng Jiqing’s mind was filled with only one word: ‘hot’.

Bai Xin’s entire being was hot.

An Alpha’s thoughts surged with the soaring rhythm, growing stronger. She suppressed her innate desire to conquer an Omega.

Suppressed the gradually awakening, fierce Alpha factor full of desire.

She merely raised her hand, shielding Bai Xin’s body, preventing anyone else from touching her even a bit.

“20 seconds!!! Cherish life and keep on partying!!”

The crowd’s movements became even wilder.

    There was no time left.

Cheng Jiqing focused, this time preparing to forcibly drag the person away.

Suddenly, someone from behind bumped into her, and she lurched forward due to inertia—

    Her lips met Bai Xin’s.

In the dance pool crowded with people.

Her lower lip was gently enveloped by the Omega’s dry, soft lips. Bai Xin seemed not the least bit flustered.

She even felt Bai Xin part her lips, as if welcomingly waiting for her…

Cheng Jiqing’s lips, teeth, and tongue were trembling lightly.

    “Last 5 seconds! 5, 4…”

The DJ was counting down. Cheng Jiqing thought, Bai Xin must really be crazy, or was it that she no longer needed to hide her identity?

So she wasn’t afraid of others seeing them like this?

    “3!”

    “2!”

A sharp pain on Cheng Jiqing’s lip—the Omega had bitten her, with a fierce intensity, yet it was incredibly alluring due to the humid heat.

Her eyes darkened. Cupping Bai Xin’s face, she lifted her head and pulled back.

It was indeed very difficult for her to resist Bai Xin, but it also depended on whether she was willing to resist.

    “1!”

    The lights came on.

Dazzling spotlights once again crisscrossed over everyone. Cheng Jiqing looked at the person before her; those eyes, under the multicolored lights, held a trace of moisture. She could almost see the redness at the corners of her eyes.

    “Bai Xin?!”

Qin Yufu was also still on the dance floor. She looked surprised upon seeing Bai Xin, then a look of delight spread across her face. She walked over to Bai Xin in two steps.

In such a noisy environment, Bai Xin couldn’t hear Qin Yufu’s voice.

Her gaze shifted from Cheng Jiqing’s face, and as usual, she gave Qin Yufu a faint glance.

She nodded, considered it a greeting.

Song Ling soon spotted Bai Xin too. It was unclear whether she had completely forgotten the past relationship between the three of them or if she just enjoyed stirring up trouble, but she suggested Bai Xin join them for a drink.

Cheng Jiqing was right beside them. After hearing this, she tugged on Song Ling’s clothes and said, “That’s enough from you.”

She hadn’t forgotten the blow-up with Bai Xin half a month ago, the fuse for which was her and Qin Yufu looking at cats. Though she still didn’t know where Bai Xin had heard about it.

Now that their relationship was like this again, it was best if they didn’t get involved with each other.

Cheng Jiqing’s actions, in Bai Xin’s eyes, turned into rejection. She composed herself, enduring the dizziness in her head: “Okay ah.”

    Cheng Jiqing froze.

Just now, when she pulled away, she had clearly seen the emotions in Bai Xin’s eyes—between anger and disappointment, there was also a faint trace of resentment.

So she had thought Bai Xin would definitely refuse.

    And then leave.

    But Bai Xin had agreed.

A beam of white light swept over, and she noticed Bai Xin’s cheeks were flushed. It was just for an instant; after the light moved away, it wasn’t clear anymore.

    VIP booth.

Originally, Qin Yufu was sitting on the outermost side, with Cheng Jiqing beside her, followed by Song Ling and two friends.

Upon returning, Cheng Jiqing looked at Bai Xin and Qin Yufu, paused silently, and then sat down on the inside first.

    Regret was already setting in.

Cheng Jiqing thought about the scenario; no matter who sat beside her, it seemed she would be the one feeling uncomfortable…

As soon as she sat down, Bai Xin followed and sat next to her.

Amidst the intense drumbeat, Cheng Jiqing coughed lightly. She turned her head to look at Bai Xin’s expression again, then leaned closer and asked, “Are you not feeling well?”

Bai Xin tilted her head, her gaze still cold, perhaps because of what just happened, or perhaps because of their meeting that afternoon.

    “What?”

Cheng Jiqing couldn’t hear clearly but read those two words from her lips.

She took out her phone, preparing to type, when the sofa beside her leg dipped, pressing down on the hem of her skirt along with it.

Cheng Jiqing’s gaze unconsciously shifted downwards—Bai Xin was wearing a beige knitted short-sleeved top, and her left arm still bore the scar from her previous injury…

Below that was a gray short skirt, which, when she sat down, shortened to a palm’s length above her knee.

The sight of her fair white legs against the black leather sofa was enough to make one’s eyes burn.

    “What?”

Bai Xin repeated, close to Cheng Jiqing’s ear.

    Extremely close.

Her breath fanned against the hair by Cheng Jiqing’s ear, making it itch.

A warm sensation came from her calf; Bai Xin’s leg had touched hers, just for an instant, then moved away.

    Without a trace of deliberateness.

Cheng Jiqing endured the itch in her heart, turned sideways, and her gaze flickered. Past Bai Xin, she met Qin Yufu’s clear eyes. Her throat moved: “I asked if you’re not feeling well?”

Bai Xin didn’t speak. Cheng Jiqing wasn’t sure if she hadn’t heard clearly or was just not answering.

    So she leaned back.

Just as she lowered her head and unlocked her phone, Song Ling grabbed her arm: “Stop playing with your phone, come drink, quickly, quickly, quickly!”

She glanced at Bai Xin’s expression and suddenly felt certain that Bai Xin must have heard her, but simply hadn’t answered.

The music took a short break, and they could finally speak without so much effort.

Cheng Jiqing couldn’t drink much. Song Ling said it was no fun if she only took a sip or two, stood up, and first went to ask Qin Yufu. The wine glass swayed, and a few drops spilled onto Cheng Jiqing’s shoulder and collarbone. The sudden coolness made her flinch.

Cheng Jiqing bent down. Bai Xin had already passed a napkin in front of her. She paused, took it, and as she turned her head, saw Bai Xin pick up a glass of wine and take a sip.

Her expression was placid, but her complexion didn’t seem very good.

Song Ling, completely unaware she had implicated an innocent bystander, shouted: “Drink a little ma, you need to drink a little to have the energy to party ya! Cheng Jiqing can’t hold her liquor, don’t learn from her.”

    Cheng Jiqing: “…”

It’s one thing to talk, but insulting people is where you’re wrong.

Qin Yufu looked at Cheng Jiqing and declined with a smile: “I’m not a very good drinker.”

Seeing that Song Ling was still trying to persuade her, Cheng Jiqing pulled her down: “If she doesn’t want to drink, then let it be.”

“Aiyo aiyo, so protective!” Song Ling pouted.

Cheng Jiqing: “…It’s not like that!”

Bai Xin, sitting in the middle, could hear everything clearly. The wine glass at her lips paused.

Qin Yufu, beside them, gave an unnatural smile: “I can drink a couple of glasses, I’m just not a very good drinker.”

Song Ling: “Forget it, I’m afraid someone will give me trouble.”

Bai Xin unconsciously tilted a bit more of the drink down her throat. She lowered her gaze, unsure if her body was hot or cold.

“Bai Xin, how’s your alcohol tolerance?”

Bai Xin turned to look at Song Ling, who offered her a glass, raising it slightly: “Dare to down one?”

Cheng Jiqing’s heart jolted, her attention instantly shifting to Bai Xin. Then, Bai Xin clinked her glass lightly against Song Ling’s, past Cheng Jiqing, and tilted her head back slightly, swallowing most of the liquid in the glass.

When the glass moved away, the wine stained her red lips, making them look exceptionally lovely and alluring7.

Cheng Jiqing thought, those were the lips that had bitten hers on the dance floor just now.

Song Ling: “Not bad ah, what are you doing sitting over there if you can drink? Come sit with us and drink, let’s play dice.”

    Bai Xin nodded: “Okay.”

Song Ling nudged Cheng Jiqing: “Move over already, if you’re not drinking, give up your seat.”

Cheng Jiqing knew Bai Xin could drink, but there were two unfamiliar people on Song Ling’s side. She didn’t move immediately, but Bai Xin had already stood up: “Excuse me, let me pass.”

    Cheng Jiqing: “…Oh.”

Since Bai Xin herself hadn’t said anything, there was no need for her to be too nervous.

Cheng Jiqing scooted to the side, clearly feeling that the leather seat where Bai Xin had just been sitting was warmer.

Song Ling and the others played for a while. Cheng Jiqing chatted idly with Qin Yufu on the side.

“Have you been to the cat cafe recently?” Qin Yufu asked her.

Cheng Jiqing nodded: “I went this afternoon.”

Qin Yufu said: “Miaomiao has gained a lot more weight, she’s growing so fast.”

    Miaomiao was that Ragdoll cat.

Cheng Jiqing thought of that beautiful little thing, her voice softening: “Yes.”

But inexplicably, she thought of Bai Xin again. She wasn’t actually very settled, always paying attention to the commotion from the drinking group.

“You’ve got something on your clothes.”

    “What?”

Cheng Jiqing lowered her eyes and only then noticed a red mark on her lower abdomen. Looking closer, it seemed like a stroke from a paintbrush, the mark in the middle not very distinct, until it reached the curve on the right side.

There was also a bit of red there.

She touched it; it had already dried, like blood.

Cheng Jiqing suddenly thought of something and looked towards Bai Xin’s hand holding the wine, but she couldn’t see anything clearly from this angle.

“I bumped into someone just now, probably touched it accidentally.”

    Cheng Jiqing said simply.

The DJ started shouting again. It was almost eleven o’clock; they should be leaving in a little while.

Qin Yufu suddenly said: “I took a particularly cute photo this afternoon, want to see it?”

Cheng Jiqing slightly regained her focus: “Okay ah.”

Qin Yufu opened her phone gallery. Cheng Jiqing hadn’t looked yet.

“Drink, drink! Bai Xin, your dice-playing skills are no good ah.”

Suddenly hearing Song Ling shout, she immediately turned her head to look. In fact, she had already heard Bai Xin lose several times.

“You guys take it easy with the drinking,” Cheng Jiqing couldn’t help but say.

Qin Yufu had clearly heard too. She said: “Bai Xin, you should drink a little less too.”

Bai Xin heard the voices and turned back, glanced at Qin Yufu, then met Cheng Jiqing’s eyes, and finally, her gaze unconsciously swept past Qin Yufu’s phone screen.

It wasn’t very clear, but she could tell it was a cat.

It looked very similar to the one Qin Yufu posted in her Moments.

Bai Xin’s head was spinning so much it made her frown. She turned around without a word, picked up the freshly refilled glass of wine, and drained it.

Then she stood up and walked out.

Everyone assumed she was going to the restroom.

Cheng Jiqing’s eyes followed that departing figure. Qin Yufu also got up: “I’ll go check.”

After a while, Qin Yufu returned, her mood somewhat dejected.

She shook her head: “She said she wanted to get some air.”

After her relationship with Bai Xin had broken off, it had always been like this; even Bai Xin’s replies to messages were very brief.

Just now, she had followed her.

Bai Xin was standing by the washbasin, her face pale, lost in thought.

“Are you not feeling well? Don’t drink anymore later, why don’t you go back early?”

    “Don’t worry about me.”

    “But you don’t look well.”

    “Do you like Cheng Jiqing?”

Bai Xin’s sudden question made her pause slightly. She shook her head and said: “No… I just think she’s actually a good person, very kind and enthusiastic. Maybe I misunderstood her before.”

Bai Xin took a long while before replying with an “En.”

“Bai Xin, I still hope we can go back to being friends like before. I don’t want to lose you as a friend.”

Bai Xin was silent for a few seconds, then replied: “We probably won’t be friends anymore.”

Cheng Jiqing lowered her head and drank her orange juice. The sweet and sour taste entered her mouth, the coolness seeping into her heart and spleen.

She glanced a few times at the crowd in the corridor; Bai Xin hadn’t returned for quite a while.

Song Ling had just finished a round and came over.

“Just now, I thought Bai Xin came for Qin Yufu, and I wanted to make her back off8, and also create some opportunities for you two to interact. Ei, I didn’t expect this Bai Xin to be quite something, drinking so much without any hesitation.”

Cheng Jiqing frowned upon hearing this. Although she had been keeping an eye on things from time to time, perhaps Bai Xin had drunk more than she imagined.

She remembered when she was at the restaurant with Tang Jia9 last time, Tang Jia had said that Bai Xin couldn’t drink too much either.

Another two minutes passed. Cheng Jiqing stood up.

    “I’m going to the restroom.”

    Outside the female Alpha restroom.

Bai Xin had just splashed cold water on her face, but the agitation in her heart hadn’t lessened at all. She couldn’t find an outlet for it, feeling terrible, both physically and mentally.

Cheng Jiqing was really distancing herself from her, and getting closer to others.

Cheng Jiqing would also speak up for other women, and discuss topics with other Omegas that they had never discussed.

She never knew Cheng Jiqing was interested in cats, nor did she know Cheng Jiqing could dance so well.

Even less did she know that when Cheng Jiqing let herself go, her eyes would look at her so much.

Bai Xin bit her lip, feeling extremely dizzy. The anxiety in her chest was about to burst out like crazy.

That feeling made her desperately want to vent, but she couldn’t get a response from Cheng Jiqing.

Just like that afternoon, Cheng Jiqing hadn’t hugged her.

Just like on the dance floor, Cheng Jiqing hadn’t kissed her.

Bai Xin pressed her index finger heavily on her temple, trying to suppress the throbbing that was making her flustered and annoyed. Her breathing was a bit tight; she had to leave this place.

She really was a bit crazy, not even knowing what she was doing.

She turned around and walked out of the restroom.

Just as she stepped out, she collided head-on with a man reeking of alcohol. The man was burly; her constitution was already poor, and coupled with her current discomfort, she was knocked back two steps.

“Yo, sorry about that, beautiful.” The man grinned lewdly, reaching out to put his arm around her shoulder.

She turned away with a cold face; the collision just now had made her very uncomfortable.

Therefore, Bai Xin could sense that this was an Alpha.

She felt too unwell to get entangled and walked straight out.

Who knew the drunkard had set his sights on her? The moment she turned, he actually grabbed her shoulder from behind!

Bai Xin instinctively dodged sideways and slapped him across the face!

A clear, crisp sound. The surrounding people’s gazes immediately turned over.

    The man’s face changed: “F*ck!”

His hand reflexively shot up, about to strike.

However, in the next second, a tall figure suddenly blocked Bai Xin. She pinched the vital point on the man’s wrist, easily bending his thick arm downwards…

“Ah… pain, pain, pain, f*ck, let go quickly!”

Cheng Jiqing’s face was frosty. She didn’t speak, her expression unchanging as she listened to the man’s screams and increased the pressure, until he bent over, his knees almost about to hit the ground.

“I was wrong, I was wrong, Jie10, it was my fault, don’t, don’t, it’s going to be crippled…”

Only then did Cheng Jiqing shove him away, saying in a deep voice: “Scram.”

The man left. Cheng Jiqing turned around and looked Bai Xin over.

The lighting outside the restroom was bright, and she finally saw the color of that face clearly—paler than a lily, yet an unnatural red.

Cheng Jiqing focused her gaze, took Bai Xin’s hand, and walked off.

They weaved through the crowded throng, past the roaring DJ music overhead, moving forward until they reached a corridor.

It was unclear where this place was, but there were relatively fewer people here. Cheng Jiqing stopped.

“Are you drunk or not feeling well?” Cheng Jiqing asked directly.

Bai Xin looked up at her. Cheng Jiqing’s high heels today were taller than usual, so she had to tilt her head up a bit more. She gazed at Cheng Jiqing’s exquisite fox-like eyes… and remembered Cheng Jiqing standing on the dance floor, chin slightly raised, eyes hazy, body swaying.

At that time, Qin Yufu was watching Cheng Jiqing intently.

“Speak ya,” Cheng Jiqing’s tone couldn’t help but become anxious. Bai Xin’s complexion had been a bit strange when she arrived.

As her words fell, Bai Xin suddenly took her hand.

Cheng Jiqing’s palm pressed against Bai Xin’s soft cheek, and she heard Bai Xin say in a hoarse voice: “You feel it, is it hot?”

    Burning hot.

Cheng Jiqing’s voice rose: “You have a fever? You had a fever when you came?”

Seeing Cheng Jiqing’s anxious expression, Bai Xin actually felt a bit better: “Maybe.”

Cheng Jiqing felt a breath catch in her throat, inexplicably flaring up: “You knew you had a fever and you still drank so much alcohol? Don’t you want your life?”

    What was she doing?

Bai Xin suddenly found a little answer.

She wanted to make Cheng Jiqing stay; she couldn’t bear to see Cheng Jiqing with someone else… couldn’t bear to see them intimately together.

Cheng Jiqing wanted to say more, but suddenly her shoulder felt a weight. Bai Xin’s scorching forehead rested on her shoulder: “Cheng Jiqing, I thought you wouldn’t care about me anymore…”

Cheng Jiqing’s heart felt as if it had been seized, and she was momentarily speechless.

In the dimly lit corridor, both walls had gilded decorations, and the faint light hitting them created a galaxy-like effect.

They stood quietly under the light and shadow.

Only, no one knew that not far down the corridor, a woman in a qipao11 was watching them leisurely and calmly.
