Ahhh! I’m really going to sleep!
Professional Sleep Aid Master Luo
The president they were meeting this time ran a company that wasn’t very large and wasn’t publicly listed.
He had heard that Luo Ke had specifically arranged a place to meet and was even bringing her fiancée along, which made him feel flattered, as if startled by the unexpected honor1.
“Hello, President Li.”
“President Luo, hello, hello.” Mr. Li stood up, extended his hand to shake Luo Ke’s, and then smiled as he offered his hand to Lin Sifei. “This must be Young Miss Lin.”
“Hello.” Lin Sifei nodded slightly and shook his hand with a smile.
“President Li, there’s no need to be so formal. Let’s talk inside.” As the host, Luo Ke gestured for him to enter.
The place Zhao Min had found indeed had food and entertainment. It was a buffet, and downstairs there were all sorts of arcade games, as well as pool tables.
“President Li, do you play pool?”
“I played a little when I was younger.” President Li was modest with his words, but his hands had already picked up a cue stick, handling it with practiced ease.
Luo Ke smiled, took the cue he was offered, and turned to whisper to Lin Sifei, “If you’re bored, you can go play the arcade games.”
Lin Sifei shook her head and said to President Li with a smile, “I don’t know how to play pool, but I’d like to watch from here, if that’s okay?”
“Of course, that’s fine,” President Li said with a laugh.
A nearby waiter helped rack the balls and then stepped aside.
Lin Sifei sat on a nearby stool and waved someone over. “Excuse me, where are the drinks?”
“The bar is over there. You can order directly, and the cost will be settled at the end.”
“Okay, thank you.” Lin Sifei stood up with a smile. “I’m going to get some drinks. President Li, are there any dietary restrictions I should know about?”
“I have to drive tonight, so I can’t drink alcohol, but anything else is fine. Thank you for asking.”
Lin Sifei nodded, walked to the bar, and ordered two iced lychee drinks and a fresh orange juice.
When she returned, the game at the pool table was at a tense stalemate.
President Li circled halfway around the table, shook his head, then walked back to his original position. He leaned over the table, gave a light tap with his cue, and the ball rolled just a little, coming to rest right against another ball.
President Li smiled in satisfaction.
Luo Ke walked up, looked at the layout on the table, and pursed her lips in difficulty. She bent down, aligning her gaze with the plane of the table, then smiled and struck hard with her cue.
The pool balls collided with a crisp sound and scattered.
“Impressive, impressive,” President Li said, applauding with a smile.
Lin Sifei sipped her iced drink, a look of complete confusion on her face.
The rest of the game went quickly. In just a few shots, Luo Ke had sunk all the balls.
President Li put away his cue, walked over, and picked up the orange juice. “President Luo, you’re truly skilled. I’m ashamed of my inferiority.”
“You’re being too modest.”
Playing pool was just a way to relax; the main purpose was, in fact, to discuss a partnership.
President Li’s company wasn’t publicly listed, but he hoped to receive an injection of capital from Luo Ke—a personal investment—which would give him more opportunities for development.
“President Li, I’ve read your project proposal. Puppet shows2 are ultimately a niche market, and it’s difficult to expand. That’s an obstacle that can’t be overcome. No matter how much is invested, the return on investment won’t be high.”
“I plan to address that problem by completely revamping our puppet shows. We now have excellent screenwriters, and the craftsmanship of our puppets is much better than before. We can develop our own industrial chain3.”
Luo Ke was still hesitant. The investment value wasn’t very high.
President Li could see she wasn’t too keen on investing and quickly said, “Why don’t we go see it in person?”
Luo Ke glanced at Lin Sifei. Lin Sifei was looking through some photos in her hand, but upon hearing this, she nodded. “Let’s go take a look. I’ve never been exposed to this sort of thing before.”
President Li stood up happily. “Then I’ll take you there. I heard Young Miss Lin is an actress. Many of our company’s screenwriters have written scripts for film and television before. The most famous is He Li4. You’ve probably heard of him.”
“Him? I’ve heard of him. They say his relationship with Gongbi5 is quite good; he’s the only one in the screenwriting circle who can get a word in with him.”
Hearing this, the expression on President Li’s face shifted slightly before he smiled and agreed.
Lin Sifei raised an eyebrow. She felt something was off about his reaction, as if there was something he wasn’t saying.
When they arrived at the theater entrance, President Li enthusiastically led them inside. A play was in progress, so Lin Sifei and Luo Ke stood in the distance to watch.
There were very few young people in the seats; most of the audience was elderly.
After watching for a while, President Li led them through the staff passage6.
“The play that was just on is an old one, with a script written long ago, so the older generation prefers it. The new plays written by our newly hired screenwriters are all targeted at a younger audience.”
President Li took them backstage, where some screenwriters were discussing a script.
He clapped his hands. “Everyone, pause for a moment. This is President Luo from Luo Corporation, and this is her fiancée, Young Miss Lin.”
“Isn’t that the actress from the movie 《Light》?”
“That’s me.” Lin Sifei smiled and waved. “Hello, everyone.”
After the greetings, the screenwriters resumed their discussion, and President Li began introducing the new puppets and stage.
“Looking at it like this, it’s actually quite good.” Lin Sifei looked at the stage set7, able to see that a lot of thought had gone into it. “This must be why you’ve run out of money to continue.”
President Li gave an embarrassed laugh. “These things are very expensive, and we still have to pay our staff’s salaries.”
Lin Sifei walked along the room. A person next to her happened to raise his hand to grab some documents, and the air conditioner blew a piece of paper off his desk.
She bent down, picked it up, and handed it back, her eyes glancing over it and seeing He Li’s name.
Lin Sifei’s expression flickered. So he’s He Li.
“Thank you,” He Li said with a smile, then continued to sketch on the paper.
“You can draw, too?”
He Li looked up at the sound of her voice and smiled shyly. “I’ve studied a little. This character is quite important, so I wanted to decide his appearance myself.”
Lin Sifei nodded and said no more, turning to go back to Luo Ke’s side.
Seeing that she was done looking, Luo Ke nodded to President Li. “I’ll go back and think it over. I’ll give you a reply as soon as possible.”
“Okay, okay. I’ll wait for your news,” President Li said with a smile as he saw them off.
Lin Sifei walked out the door and linked her arm with Luo Ke’s as she got into the car.
As the car drove away, a woman in a lotus-root-colored overcoat walked out of a nearby shop.
Yan Yafei bit her lip as she watched the car, then strode into the theater with a faint smile on her face.
“Is He Li here?”
“Yes.” The person at the door got up to call for him.
He Li came out quickly. He smiled when he saw her. “What are you doing here? You didn’t even send me a message.”
“I wanted to surprise you.” She smiled, took out a hat, and placed it on his head. “Do you like it?”
“I like it.” He Li lowered his head, touching the hat.
Yan Yafei’s lips moved as she asked softly, “Did you see Lin Sifei just now? Did she say anything?”
“She didn’t say anything.” He Li carefully took off the hat and put it away safely. “By the way, you’re both in the entertainment circle. Are you and she friends? She seems like a nice person. You two could look out for each other.”
Yan Yafei gritted her teeth inwardly. Look out for each other? Her and Lin Sifei?
She sniffled, her eyes instantly turning red. “How could I be friends with her? We were filming a variety show together before, and she deliberately pushed me into a river. I can’t swim; I was almost scared to death.”
He Li was soft-hearted and immediately believed Yan Yafei’s words. “How could she do that? Are you okay? Did anything happen to you?”
“I almost died. Thankfully, there was a lifeguard,” Yan Yafei said, rubbing her eyes.
“How could a person be like that? I’m going to expose her!”
Yan Yafei grabbed his hand, her face anxious. “She’s Luo Ke’s fiancée. How could you possibly fight against that? Besides, she’s about to star in Gongbi’s movie. How can I even compare to her?”
Hearing Gongbi’s name, He Li’s expression changed. “Starring in his script isn’t necessarily a good thing. You don’t need to be afraid.”
Yan Yafei gritted her teeth. Gongbi is a major screenwriter. How could it not be a good thing?
“I can only comfort myself with that thought. She’s told me several times that Gongbi is very satisfied with her. With Luo Corporation backing her, of course she can be unscrupulous8.”
Hearing her say this, a conflicted expression appeared on He Li’s face.
Finally, he relented. “I know Gongbi. I can ask him for you.”
Yan Yafei slowly shook her head. “Better not. I heard he has a bad temper. Even if you know him, I don’t want you to get chewed out.”
When she said this, He Li instantly had his head muddled by impulse and grasped her hand. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”
Yan Yafei looked at him, her eyes shining.
In the other car, Lin Sifei had been frowning slightly the whole time.
Luo Ke took her hand. “What’s wrong? Why the long face?”
“That He Li… I kept feeling like his name was familiar, and now I remember.” Lin Sifei turned to look at her and lowered her voice. “In the book, He Li was cannon fodder9. It said that because Yan Yafei played the female lead in his script, he developed delusional disorder10 and thought Yan Yafei was his girlfriend.”
“But, based on what Yan Yafei is doing now, I think what he said might have actually been true!”
Luo Ke didn’t mind adding blockage11 for Yan Yafei. “He’s just an ordinary screenwriter. What could Yan Yafei possibly see in him?”
Lin Sifei narrowed her eyes. “Didn’t I get a role in Gongbi’s movie? I heard He Li is the only one who can get a word in with him. Yan Yafei probably wants to connect a line12 to Gongbi.”
“Isn’t Gongbi supposed to be very arrogant? He probably wouldn’t give Yan Yafei the female lead role just because of a friend.”
“But she can look for a quarrel13 with me,” Lin Sifei said, puffing out her cheeks. “She’s full of lies. She’s probably planning to go to Gongbi and badmouth me, trying to get him to replace me. Even if she only manages to make him dissatisfied with me, she still wins.”
She curled her lip into an arrogant smile. “She just didn’t expect that I’ve already fallen out14 with Gongbi. All that effort she’s putting in is just wasting her efforts.”
“And you’re proud of that?” Luo Ke reached out and pinched her nose, absolutely adoring her proud little expression.
Lin Sifei tilted her head back to escape her hand and leaned against her. “I am proud. That Gongbi is so annoying.”
“So, are you still going to bother with He Li?” Luo Ke hoped she wouldn’t; these people always distracted Xiao Xiao’s attention.
Lin Sifei thought for a moment. “I’ll ask President Li for He Li’s contact information later. First, I’ll find out if he’s been in contact with Yan Yafei. If he has, it’s probably useless. People in love have an IQ of 0.”
“Then what’s your IQ right now?” Luo Ke asked, moving closer to her.
Lin Sifei’s face flushed. She glanced at the driver in the front and then lightly punched her from behind.
Luo Ke took the hit but was especially happy. She picked up her phone to ask President Li for He Li’s contact information.
President Li sent it over quickly.
Lin Sifei dialed the number. “Hello, this is Lin Sifei. I was one of the people who visited just now.”
“Oh. Do you need something? If not, I’m busy, so I’m hanging up.” He Li’s tone was aggressive, making no effort to hide his dislike.
Hearing his tone, Lin Sifei knew Yan Yafei must have said something. “Goodbye.”
After saying that, she hung up the phone.
“Alright, no need to bother with him anymore,” Lin Sifei said, spreading her hands.
Luo Ke felt pleased. She contacted President Li and agreed to inject capital. Since Yan Yafei and He Li were in contact, it was better to keep an eye on them.
“When we visited earlier, He Li didn’t have much of a reaction, which means Yan Yafei must have said something to him after we left. He probably hasn’t had a chance to contact Gongbi yet. We can have Li Tao go talk to Gongbi first, to prevent him from believing Yan Yafei’s words.”
She picked up her phone and opened her contacts.
Lin Sifei reached out and pressed down on her hand. “Don’t call!”
Luo Ke looked at her, confused, not understanding what she wanted to do.
Lin Sifei broke into a smile, took her phone, and toyed with it in her hands. “That Gongbi has issues. Isn’t he arrogant? I want to see if his condescending attitude allows him to see that Yan Yafei is lying. If he can’t, he’ll definitely try to use this opportunity to slander me. When that happens, I’ll expose the rumors and leave him with nowhere to hide from shame.”
Luo Ke shook her head helplessly. “You’re planning on some fishing law enforcement15, huh?”
“What’s wrong with fishing law enforcement?” Lin Sifei lifted her chin. “You can’t expect me to be a saint and wait to enlighten them, can you?”
Lin Sifei pouted and rubbed her fists and wiped her palms16, waiting for the big fish17, Gongbi, to take the bait.
As for Yan Yafei? She didn’t even dare to meet her face-to-face. Too cowardly. She wouldn’t become the climate18. She was perfect to be used as a knife19 to strike a painful blow against her own teammate.
After returning home, a message came from Director Luo, approving her script changes.
Lin Sifei’s spirits lifted instantly. She bit her lower lip as she typed, her tone as pitiful as possible.
【Lin Sifei: Director Luo, is this not a good idea? The screenwriter already dislikes me, and now I’ve gone and changed the script.】
【Lin Sifei: I feel like I’ve gone too far. Will the screenwriter be angry?】
Director Luo was relatively good-tempered. When he saw the messages, he sent her a voice note. His voice was soft, as if coaxing his own daughter.
“Sifei, don’t you worry. His script had problems to begin with. Even if you hadn’t touched it, I would have changed it myself.”
【Lin Sifei: Then Director Luo, won’t that make things difficult for you?】
“I’m fine. I won’t be working with him again in the future. I only took this on because it was a sci-fi script, and we’re sorely lacking scripts in that genre.”
Lin Sifei had only intended to act a little like green tea20, but she didn’t expect Director Luo to actually start discussing the current state of the film industry with her.
She had some thoughts on this as well, as this world’s film development was the same as in her original world. She couldn’t help but start discussing it with Director Luo, mixing in her own visions for the future.
“Rest assured, the film 《Migration》 will definitely create a new epoch21!”
“I believe in you, Director Luo!” Lin Sifei’s hot blood boiled22.
Luo Ke sat behind her, watching as she was gradually mesmerized by the big pancake Director Luo was drawing23, and helplessly raised a hand to her forehead.
She walked over and flicked Lin Sifei’s forehead. “Wake up. Stop daydreaming24.”
Lin Sifei clutched her forehead and looked at her indignantly. “You don’t believe in me!”
Just as Luo Ke was about to say she did believe her, Lin Sifei had already grabbed the script and run back to the bedroom. “You’re sleeping in the study tonight!”
Luo Ke froze for a moment, her gaze falling on the sofa in the study. It was small and narrow; it would definitely be uncomfortable to sleep on.
She wasn’t going to sleep there.
Luo Ke took the room key from the drawer and flung open the door.
Lin Sifei was dumbfounded on the bed. Luo Ke pulled down her shoulder strap and leaned close to her face. “What’s your IQ right now?”
“Huh?” Lin Sifei said blankly.
Luo Ke smiled and pinned her down. “I’ll make it drop to 0 right now.”
A long time later, Lin Sifei’s IQ of 0 finally rose to 1.
No way, was Luo Ke still hung up on that line about love dropping one’s IQ to 0?
If love couldn’t lower it, she’d use her beauty to lower it instead. President Luo was truly shameless.
The shameless President Luo sneezed and continued to stand in the kitchen, boiling water.
Once the water was ready, she poured two cups, one for Lin Sifei and one for herself. When she returned with the water, Lin Sifei was lying on her stomach on the pillow, holding her phone and twisting around to take a picture of her own butt.
Luo Ke’s expression froze. She quickly walked to the bedside, put down the water, and snatched her phone.
“Don’t take random pictures. What if you lose your phone one day, or someone hacks into it?”
Lin Sifei hugged a pillow and looked at her mournfully. “I was going to delete it right after. I just wanted to see if the skin was broken. It hurts so much. You were too rough.”
“Does it hurt that much? Let me see.”
Luo Ke leaned over and held her by the waist. Her long hair slid from her shoulders, brushing against Lin Sifei’s sore spot, sending a tingling sensation through her.
Lin Sifei shivered and kicked her leg.
“Don’t move.” Luo Ke, completely oblivious, held her leg down and tucked her hair back to get a better look. “It seems a little red and swollen. I’ll go get some ice to apply an ice pack, and then I’ll apply some medicine.”
Lin Sifei grunted and continued to lie on the bed like a salted fish25.
Soon, Luo Ke returned with a towel and an ice pack. Through the towel, the cold from the ice pack slowly seeped through, soothing the heat of her skin.
It’s actually quite comfortable.
Lin Sifei narrowed her eyes and complained softly, “Don’t hit me next time. I’m not an M, I can’t play that game.”
Luo Ke guiltily pulled the blanket over her waist. “I won’t next time. Today was an accident.”
Lin Sifei grunted twice, taking that as an acknowledgment.
Luo Ke quietly moved the ice pack for her. After a while, she couldn’t help but speak up. “The way you were acting just now… it was like you wanted me to hit you.”
Lin Sifei’s eyes instantly went wide. Not only does she not admit her mistake, she’s trying to throw the pot26!
She shot up in anger, flipping over and pouncing on her. “You big pervert!”
Luo Ke was pushed back by her, but her eyes couldn’t help but drift to the snowy peaks before her, and she reached out to give one a squeeze.
Lin Sifei let out a soft cry, crossing her arms over her chest with a slight frown.
Luo Ke was startled. “Was I too rough?”
“No, I think my menstrual period is coming soon. It’s a little sore.” Lin Sifei curled up for a moment, then fell back onto the bed, her combat power reduced to zero.
Luo Ke sighed helplessly. “Be careful.” She calculated the dates. “It’s a bit early.”
Lin Sifei guiltily averted her gaze.
Luo Ke reached out and tapped her on the head. “You were secretly staying up late again last night, weren’t you!”
Lin Sifei clutched her head and wailed, “It’s a cat’s nature! Sleep during the day, go clubbing at night! You can’t blame me!”
“I’ll watch you sleep tonight.”
Lin Sifei turned her head and buried it in the pillow, grumbling to herself: Whatever. My acting is great. I’ve never been caught playing dead before.
Luo Ke saw her playing dead, shook her head helplessly, and bent down to check the injury. It was about time to apply medicine.
She picked up the ointment, squeezed some onto her finger, and gently rubbed it on the sore spot.
The cool ointment felt very comfortable on the injury, and Luo Ke’s movements were light, almost like a caress.
Lin Sifei tried to endure the trembling, but Luo Ke was still applying the medicine.
She finally couldn’t take it anymore. She reached back, grabbed her hand, and said through gritted teeth, “That’s enough ointment. Stop rubbing.”
“I’m just helping you rub it in so it absorbs better.”
“It doesn’t need to absorb! Stop rubbing!” Lin Sifei cried out, her earlobes so red they looked like they were about to bleed.
“I feel like you’re about to rub it somewhere else,” she muttered under her breath.
Luo Ke had been perfectly serious, but when she heard that, her gaze couldn’t help but shift over. The moment it did, a pillow was smashed into her face.
“I’m going to rest now!”
Luo Ke removed the pillow and said very seriously, “Don’t you always stay up late? If you tire yourself out during the day, you won’t be able to stay up at night.”
Lin Sifei looked at her in shock. She never thought she could be so inhuman!
Luo Ke then demonstrated with her actions what it truly meant to not be a person.
Lin Sifei quickly surrendered. “I’ll definitely sleep well tonight, I swear!”
“Can I believe you?”
Lin Sifei immediately pouted and whined in a soft voice, “But my butt hurts so much. I’m so uncomfortable. It doesn’t feel good at all.”
Luo Ke’s hand paused. “It still hurts that much?”
“It’s not a sharp pain, just that tingling, numbing feeling that makes a person really restless,” Lin Sifei said with a frown, as if deeply troubled by it.
Luo Ke glanced at the injury again, carefully helped her avoid putting pressure on it, and covered her with the blanket.
“Then be good and sleep tonight. Don’t you dare get up after I’ve fallen asleep.”
Lin Sifei immediately started nodding like she was pounding garlic27.
Luo Ke went to get dinner for them to eat, played games for a while, then put her phone away to sleep.
Lin Sifei’s eyes were glued to the tablet, clearly feeling that the meaning wasn’t exhausted yet28. She turned her head and met Luo Ke’s cold gaze, and her little scheme was immediately withdrawn.
“Sleeping, sleeping.”
She pulled the blanket up and closed her eyes.
Luo Ke turned off the light and lay down beside her. “Does your butt hurt when you lie down to sleep?”
“It’s much better. It won’t hurt just from sleeping.” She deliberately emphasized the word “just.”
Luo Ke nodded and closed her eyes, relieved.
Lin Sifei lay in bed, her fingers twitching restlessly, her mind still on the game she hadn’t managed to beat earlier.
She sensed Luo Ke get up beside her to check, and she immediately rolled her eyes up, slowing her breathing.
She felt Luo Ke’s hair tickle her nose. Mimicking someone talking in their sleep, she frowned, grunted twice, and turned over to face away from her.
Luo Ke followed her.
Lin Sifei thought to herself: So persistent!
She continued to feign sleep, but suddenly an arm wrapped around her and began to move all over, heading straight for her sensitive spots.
“Hah!” Lin Sifei couldn’t hold it in.
Luo Ke immediately turned on the bedside lamp and pressed down on top of her. “Playing dead?”
Lin Sifei’s face flushed, and she began to struggle with her hands and feet. “It doesn’t count, it doesn’t count! I wasn’t asleep yet! I wasn’t playing, I was just brewing sleepiness29!”
“I can help you brew it.”
“No need!” Lin Sifei hugged the blanket tightly. “Don’t disturb my rest!”
Luo Ke narrowed her eyes. “If you weren’t planning to stay up late, why would you pretend to be asleep to trick me?”
“Who was pretending? That’s just my brewing method.” Lin Sifei refused to say more, rolling herself up in the blanket. “I’m going to sleep now! Don’t bother me!”
She waited a moment until Luo Ke turned off the light, then finally let out a sigh of relief.
She rubbed her butt; it was still a little numb.
That villain, Luo Ke.
But after being scared like that, she really didn’t dare to think about playing games anymore and quickly fell asleep.
