Don’t look at me!
Or I won’t be able to resist.
Lin Sifei felt like there was smoke coming from the top of her head1. She pressed both hands to her cheeks, finally managing to cool them down.
She took a deep breath and moved her phone a little farther away.
The video on her computer had finished playing, and she casually scrolled to the comment section.
【This relationship is too incredible. Feng Tingyun2 likes Lu Heng3, Lu Heng likes Lin Sifei, and Lin Sifei just got engaged to the President of Luo Corporation. At the same time, Lu Heng is homophobic, so he’s afraid of the one who likes him and afraid of the one he likes. Amazing!】
【Feng Tingyun is an excellent actor. I hope everyone will be cautious with their comments if they don’t know the details.】
【To the person above, stop trying to control the comments4. It’s so annoying. Your own idol said he likes Lu Heng.】
【Lu Heng is shameless! Even if Yun-ge5 really likes you, is it fun to string people along?】
【This can’t be for hype, can it? Why am I seeing Lin Sifei again? She’s really something, stepping on Lu Heng and Feng Tingyun to get ahead.】
【Are you sick in the head? Feng Tingyun was clearly the one who brought it up. Could Feifei6 have forced him to come out of the closet and say that?】
【Can you please not drag Feifei into this? It’s your precious brothers’ emotional problem, go sort it out yourselves.】
Lin Sifei read through the comments and saw that some people were starting to supplement with their brains7, creating a whole drama.
Lu Heng, suffering from unrequited love for Lin Sifei, finds out the person he likes has come out of the closet. Heartbroken and hurt by the rejection, Lu Heng decides to take revenge on society. He turns back to Feng Tingyun, who once confessed to him, gets entangled with him, and then kicks him to the curb. Feng Tingyun, having gained and then lost him, goes mad for love.
【“I can’t have your heart, but I will have your body!” Feng Tingyun said.】
【Hand the master a pen8.】
【Hurry up, hurry up.】
Lin Sifei: …Dage9, why don’t you go write a novel?
Lin Sifei rubbed her forehead helplessly. After some thought, she decided not to respond to the matter. This was primarily an issue between Feng Tingyun and Lu Heng; it wasn’t necessary or appropriate for her to get involved first.
Sure enough, Li Tao10 also sent her a message, telling her not to say anything rash and to first see what Feng Tingyun’s side planned to do.
【Lin Sifei: What does the company plan to do about Lu Heng’s situation?】
【Li Tao: They’re talking to Lu Heng now. The details aren’t out yet.】
【Li Tao: But I did some asking around. It seems like Feng Tingyun is genuine about Lu Heng. I heard he’s liked him for five or six years.】
This didn’t surprise Lin Sifei. When Feng Tingyun had revealed his feelings for Lu Heng, he had both explicitly and implicitly suggested that he had liked him for a long time.
But Li Tao’s next message left her stunned.
【Li Tao: The talk is over. Lu Heng came clean; he’s a little interested in Feng Tingyun.】
Lin Sifei pressed her lips together. So Lu Heng’s previous composure had all been an act. His desire to put an end to it was actually about ending his own fruitless feelings.
She let out a long sigh. In the end, she didn’t want the two of them to miss their chance because of a misunderstanding.
If there was a misunderstanding, it should be cleared up first. Whether they got together after that was their own choice.
She pursed her lips, thought for a moment, and opened her message window with Feng Tingyun. She had added him on Feixin11 when they were filming the variety show together.
Getting straight to the point, Lin Sifei directly asked him why he said Lu Heng had cursed him out.
【Lin Sifei: Lu Heng-ge isn’t that kind of person. I can’t believe you don’t know that.】
【Feng Tingyun: He’s homophobic. When he found out I liked him, he thought it was disgusting.】
【Lin Sifei: But he’s not homophobic.】
【Feng Tingyun: …Are you here just to show off? He likes you so much he doesn’t even care that you’re gay. Feeling proud of yourself?】
【Lin Sifei: ?????】
A red exclamation mark appeared on the screen. Feng Tingyun had blocked her.
“Heh! I was trying to help you out of the goodness of my heart, and this is the attitude I get? Go sit in a corner.” She angrily blocked him back.
After blocking him, Lin Sifei was still fuming. She turned to Luo Ke to vent.
Hearing her story, Luo Ke tapped her fingers on the desktop one by one. “Don’t be angry. I’ll help you get revenge.”
Lin Sifei: “? What are you going to do?”
“It’s a secret.” Luo Ke chuckled lightly. “Don’t worry, I won’t go too far.”
Lin Sifei was skeptical, but in the end, she listened to her and went to comfort Lu Heng first.
…
After hanging up with Lin Sifei, Luo Ke immediately contacted someone at Ju Luo Culture12 to get Lu Heng’s exact words from that day.
【I’m not homophobic. I had a good impression of him back then. After we had a falling out, he tried to contact me a few times, but I ignored him. …Now, I still have a bit of a good impression.】
【Luo Ke: Lu Heng’s original words.】
Luo Ke sent the message to Feng Tingyun. Three seconds later, messages from him began to bombard her phone.
【Feng Tingyun: He really has a good impression of me?】
【Feng Tingyun: He’s not homophobic? Then why did he reject me and curse at me?】
【Feng Tingyun: He really likes me?!】
Luo Ke glanced coolly at her phone, picked it up, and replied with a single sentence, 【You blocked Lin Sifei?】
Feng Tingyun froze for a second before finally sparing a bit of his attention. 【Yes. I thought she was here to show off.】
【Feng Tingyun: So Lu Heng doesn’t like her either, he likes me, right?】
Two exclamation marks appeared on the screen. Luo Ke had blocked him.
“Fuck!” So she was deliberately stringing him along to get revenge for her wife.
He hurriedly grabbed his phone to unblock Lin Sifei.
【Feng Tingyun: I’m sorry, it seems I misunderstood earlier.】
A red exclamation mark appeared. Lin Sifei had also blocked him.
Feng Tingyun sat on the sofa, abruptly put down his phone, and grabbed his hair. “Ahhhhhh!” he screamed.
His assistant was so startled that his hand trembled, nearly dropping the flowerpot next to him.
Luckily, he caught it in time. “Yun-ge, what’s wrong?”
“Don’t mind him, he’s just having a fit,” his manager said, walking in and angrily slamming her bag on the table. “Explain yourself. What is your situation right now?”
“A situation where you reap what you sow13,” Feng Tingyun said, collapsing onto the sofa and staring blankly at the ceiling.
“Good that you know. So what do you plan to do now?”
Feng Tingyun continued to space out. “Apologize sincerely and strive for lenient treatment.”
His manager hadn’t expected him to be so cooperative this time and nodded in satisfaction. “You should post on Weibo14 right now, apologize…”
Before she could finish, Feng Tingyun did a carp jump15 and sat up on the sofa.
He snatched his manager’s phone and started looking for Lu Heng’s manager’s number.
“What are you doing!” The manager reached out to grab the phone.
However, relying on his powerful memory, Feng Tingyun had already memorized the number. He picked up his own phone and dialed.
The phone rang twice—du du—and a woman’s voice answered.
“Hello?”
Feng Tingyun suddenly felt a bit of stage fright. He’d walked so many red carpets without ever feeling stage fright, yet this time he was scared.
“Hello?” the woman’s voice on the other end asked again.
Feng Tingyun pinched himself. “I want to see him.”
The other end of the line went silent for a moment. “Feng Tingyun?”
“Yes.”
Another round of silence followed, along with some background noise. Feng Tingyun stood there quietly, waiting.
More noise came from the other end, and then Lu Heng’s voice came through. “Let’s meet. The old spot.”
Feng Tingyun’s nose suddenly stung a little. He nodded, then remembered the other person couldn’t see him and quickly said, “Okay.”
The call ended.
…
Lin Sifei was in the middle of comforting Lu Heng, sharing her years of experience as a popular star.
【Lin Sifei: Don’t read the comments online.】
【Lin Sifei: Your orientation isn’t a big deal. People are very tolerant now. For an actor, what matters is your work.】
A moment later, a message from Lu Heng arrived.
【Lu Heng: Feng Tingyun asked to meet me. Do you want to come? You seem pretty interested.】
Lin Sifei froze, worried she might have upset him. Maybe he didn’t like sharing his personal life with others, and she had overstepped.
Perhaps sensing something from her silence, Lu Heng sent a voice message tinged with a slight laugh.
“Don’t overthink it. Both of our managers will be there. The main thing is to resolve this misunderstanding.”
Lin Sifei hesitated for a moment but agreed to go. Besides their relationship issues, she also wanted to ask Feng Tingyun why he had helped Yan Yafei, especially after saying she was dangerous.
She also wanted to ask why he thought Yan Yafei was dangerous and how he had avoided her “halo.”
Luo Ke, having finished her eye-for-an-eye retaliation, guessed that Feng Tingyun must have exploded. She leisurely sent a message to Lin Sifei to take credit.
Lin Sifei laughed out loud, happily praising Luo Ke. “You’re too amazing.”
Luo Ke leaned back in her chair, smiling as she listened to her blow rainbow farts16.
While dishing out praise, Lin Sifei unblocked Feng Tingyun and sent an arrogant 【Ha, ha, ha】. As expected, no exclamation mark appeared.
“By the way, Feng Tingyun is meeting with Lu Heng. Come with me. We can ask about the Yan Yafei thing while we’re at it.”
Luo Ke agreed, saying she would drive over to pick her up in a bit.
The “old spot” Lu Heng had mentioned was a coffee shop they used to frequent when they were just starting out. The shop had a retro style and loved to play classic old films.
The two of them would use their breaks to come over, drink coffee, touch fish17, watch movies, and exchange their thoughts.
When they arrived at the coffee shop, Feng Tingyun and his manager were already there and had booked the entire place. The owner was happily packing up to go home.
“You’re here.” Feng Tingyun pushed the coffee in front of him toward Lu Heng and smiled.
Lu Heng gave a slight nod and settled into the sofa.
Feng Tingyun wasn’t annoyed. He just turned to Lin Sifei and glared at her.
Lin Sifei rolled her eyes helplessly and looked toward the door. Soon, Luo Ke pushed it open and walked in.
Luo Ke: “Why are you standing?”
Lin Sifei, borrowing the tiger’s might18, shot Feng Tingyun a look and sat down beside her. Remembering what Luo Ke had just done, Feng Tingyun silently shut his mouth.
“We’re here today mainly to deal with the matter of the video,” Lu Heng’s manager said, all business. “I don’t know what misunderstanding Mr. Feng has about Lu Heng, but this incident has had a very negative impact on him.”
Feng Tingyun nodded and looked at Lu Heng. “Before that, I’d like to talk about what happened before.”
“I’d like to talk about that too.” Lu Heng sat up straight. “Why did you say I deceived you and that I was homophobic?”
“You’re really not?”
Lu Heng rolled his eyes. Feng Tingyun relaxed and began to talk about their argument four years ago. The memory was so vivid that he still hadn’t forgotten it.
“I prepared for a long time back then. To confirm your schedule, I contacted my manager. I was planning to come out of the closet regardless of whether I succeeded or not, so I didn’t hide it from him.”
At the time, both of their managers had the surname Liang; he couldn’t remember the given name anymore.
When Manager Liang learned about it, he wasn’t too surprised. “There are a lot of gay people in the circle, but Lu Heng doesn’t seem to be very accepting of it.”
“I don’t think so. Ge said before that he wasn’t against it.”
The manager just smiled. “I hope that’s the case.”
But that one sentence was enough to throw the person about to confess into disarray. Feng Tingyun asked his manager to test the waters for him, and the manager agreed.
Feng Tingyun waited anxiously for a long time, well past the time the manager had said the gig would be over.
Just as he was waiting anxiously, the manager’s call suddenly came in.
Feng Tingyun answered it joyfully, but before he could say a word, he was hit with a barrage of Lu Heng’s voice.
“You people are disgusting! Go tell him I’m happy to do it! Don’t use some bullshit love as a fig leaf19, I’m not buying it. I don’t care if he’s willing to be a cheap slut, but don’t interfere with me!”
The manager’s voice cut in, “Calm down.”
“Get lost. The fact that I didn’t beat him to death is me being calm.”
The call disconnected there. Feng Tingyun was still in a daze when his manager sent a message to comfort him.
He was someone with an explosive temper to begin with, and the confession decorations in the room now felt like a mockery.
He grabbed his hair in fury and violently kicked over the table.
He made a mess of everything, and when Lu Heng returned, his first words were, “Ge, do you think being gay is disgusting?”
Lu Heng told him he never wanted to hear anything about homosexuality again.
…
Lu Heng took a sip of coffee and sighed. “I think I understand where the misunderstanding came from.”
Lu Heng’s experience was different from Feng Tingyun’s. The reason he had returned late that day was because his manager was pimping for him20, taking him to meet a high-level executive from the company.
He had hit the executive and run out. The manager had half-coaxed, half-threatened him to submit to the executive, insisting on how special he was to the man, how it was true love.
What followed were the words Feng Tingyun had heard. He just never expected that the manager would be on the phone, or that he would mislead Feng Tingyun.
“Later, when you came and asked me about homosexuality…” Lu Heng paused. “I admit I had a good impression of you then. I thought you were hinting at something. But after the ‘unspoken rule21‘ incident, my thoughts went astray too. I thought you and the manager were in it together, that your earlier probing was all for that executive…”
Because they both misunderstood each other, they had a huge fight.
Lu Heng suddenly understood what Feng Tingyun had meant before when he said he could become famous. It was because during their argument, he had yelled.
“I’ll never be famous in this life! I just don’t deserve to be famous!”
A young man’s anger had overwhelmed his reason, ultimately causing the two of them to miss out on four years.
…
“Since the misunderstanding has been cleared up, about this incident…”
Feng Tingyun glanced at Lu Heng. “I wasn’t thinking clearly at the time. Whether you forgive me or not, I still like you. I don’t think there’s anything to clarify.”
After saying that, he paused and looked at Lin Sifei. “We can clarify the part about Lin Sifei, though.”
Lin Sifei gave him a dead-fish-eyed look22: Oh, thank you so much.
Lu Heng didn’t state whether he forgave him or not, just nodded.
As everyone was getting up, Lu Heng suddenly spoke. “By the way, why did you hire people to attack me and Lin Sifei online?”
In an instant, the atmosphere was once again one of swords drawn and bows bent23.
Feng Tingyun scratched his hair awkwardly. “I didn’t. I just said I lent my studio24 to Yan Yafei to use. I didn’t expect her to do that. I cut off contact with her after that.”
Lin Sifei frowned slightly. “Why did you help her? Didn’t you say she was dangerous?”
“I just had a feeling. If I didn’t help her, she would definitely find someone else, and Lu Heng was just starting to rise at the time. That Feng Xiao in your film crew was clearly Yan Yafei’s gun25. I was afraid something would happen, so I figured it was better to just let her use my studio.”
So that was why. Lin Sifei nodded and asked again, “So, do you like Yan Yafei?”
Feng Tingyun’s mouth twitched. “I like Lu Heng.”
Lin Sifei glanced at Lu Heng and saw the tips of his ears turning slightly red. She sighed helplessly. Looks like this one’s a goner.
“But, Yan Yafei gets along well with everyone else. If she has a grudge against you two and her image collapses, you should be careful,” Feng Tingyun said before leaving with Lu Heng.
Once they were gone, Lin Sifei turned to Luo Ke. “It seems others can sense the protagonist’s halo26. It’s just that the feeling is a little different. Back then, Yuan Mo just felt like he could trust Yan Yafei completely.”
“It might be because there was an error in Feng Tingyun’s feelings for Lu Heng. Without interference, the two of them might have just missed their chance.”
Lin Sifei thought about it and realized it was a real possibility. In the end, it was all because she had changed the original plot, flapping the butterfly wings27.
Just as that ended, Li Tao’s call came again. “Finished watching the emotional drama? You should worry less about others and more about yourself! You just had a conflict with the screenwriter. What are you thinking?”
Lin Sifei gave a few perfunctory “uh-huhs.” In any case, she had no intention of getting on good terms with the screenwriter.
Lu Heng and Feng Tingyun had already cleared up their misunderstanding. There was no need for her to pay attention to what happened next; she should give them some privacy.
Luo Ke still had things to do at the company. She had just come over to accompany her for a bit and had to go back.
Lin Sifei knew that as soon as she was with her, her mind would wander, so she obediently went home to read the script.
She sat on her bed, pulled up the script, and continued to read, making changes as she went. She altered some of the plot points where the female lead was pushed forward by events, changing them into reluctant actions she took herself. The female lead truly transformed from someone purely pitiful into a person struggling to survive in a brutal reality.
The script’s original name was 《Savior》28. Paired with the plot of the female lead being forced along, it was truly ironic.
Lin Sifei rested her head on the desk, thinking. Suddenly, she saw a bird fly past the window. A flash of inspiration struck her. She crossed out 《Savior》 and wrote two words—Migration29.
She sent the revised script to the director, stood up, and stretched. She turned into a cat and ran a lap around the house, then took out her phone to harass Luo Ke.
【When are you coming back? I miss you. I’m so bored all by myself.】
Luo Ke looked down at the message, then raised a hand to interrupt Zhao Min30, who was in the middle of a report. “Move all of today’s remaining appointments to tomorrow.”
Zhao Min froze, looking up at her, dumbfounded.
Luo Ke was already shutting down her computer and grabbing her jacket from the chair. “I’m going home first. I’ll be bringing my fiancée for a visit tomorrow. You arrange a place. It’s best if there’s food and something to do.”
“Understood.”
Zhao Min watched her boss walk out the door happily and silently made a call to contact the others.
It’s a good thing Luo Corporation is a big company. Otherwise, President Luo would definitely be beaten to death.
Luo Ke drove home, and as soon as she opened the door, she saw the cat collapsed on the bed, fast asleep.
The cat was sleeping soundly, belly up, with a small tip of its tongue sticking out.
Luo Ke looked down, couldn’t resist squatting down, and used two fingers to pinch the tip of its tongue.
The tongue had been out for a while and was quite dry. Luo Ke wiggled her fingertips, and Lin Sifei’s mouth opened as she let out a yawn.
Afraid of pulling her tongue, Luo Ke let go. However, the little lazy cat didn’t wake up. Instead, it rolled over, licked its lips, and went back to sleep.
Luo Ke couldn’t help but laugh. Looking at the back of the cat’s head, she had a flash of inspiration. She tiptoed to the nearby storage room and found a large box.
She opened the lid. Inside was a collection of tiny clothes. She picked one up; it was a variety of little dresses for pets.
She had bought these clothes back when Xiao Xiao hadn’t been able to turn human. At the time, she’d heard that cats didn’t really like wearing clothes, so she hadn’t put them on her. But now that she knew Xiao Xiao was more than just a cat, there was no need to be polite.
She found a black and white maid outfit and carefully approached the sleeping cat to put the dress on her.
Lin Sifei was sleeping soundly when she was roused by the fuss. She huffily stretched out a paw to bat at her.
The moment she raised her paw, she felt something was wrong. It didn’t feel as nimble as before.
She finally opened her drowsy eyes and saw the puffy black and white fabric on her body.
“Meow?” She couldn’t see the whole outfit and thought it was just some cloth draped over her, so she wiggled her body.
Luo Ke held her down. “Don’t move. Let me get a good look.”
Lin Sifei looked up and saw Luo Ke’s mischievous smile. She wasn’t getting a “good look” at all; the phone in her hand was pointed right at her.
“Meow!” No pictures!
Although she didn’t know what was wrapped around her, Lin Sifei had a feeling it was definitely nothing good.
She pounced a few times, but Luo Ke expertly dodged each attempt.
Lin Sifei then realized that because she always pounced on Luo Ke, her opponent could now predict her movements.
She scrunched up her face, lowered her body, and just as Luo Ke prepared to dodge, she leaped off the sofa and ran toward the full-length mirror.
Luo Ke tried to stop her, but a person was no match for a cat’s speed. She could only watch as the cat froze in front of the mirror.
Luo Ke reluctantly snapped another picture before finally putting her phone away. “It’s pretty cute.”
“Meow!” It’s a maid outfit!
Lin Sifei looked at Luo Ke in shock. I never knew you were this kind of person, Luo Ke. What a pervert.
Luo Ke read her expression and raised an eyebrow slightly. “You’re the one with the dirty mind. I’m just looking at a cute cat.”
Lin Sifei glanced back at the mirror. If she ignored the fact that the cat was her, it was a little bit cute.
She took a couple of glances, satisfying her desire to admire the cat, then suddenly leaped up and grabbed onto Luo Ke’s clothes. “Meow meow meow!”
Luo Ke laughed, using a hand to support her so she wouldn’t fall. “I’ll take it off for you right now.”
Only then did Lin Sifei huff and shake her head.
Luo Ke pinched her paw. “So if not this one, is it okay to wear something else?”
Lin Sifei looked at the medieval English noblewoman’s attire31 that had appeared in her hand from nowhere and glared at her resentfully.
Luo Ke held up two fingers. “Maid outfit or noblewoman’s attire. Pick one.”
Comparing the levels of shame, Lin Sifei fiercely chose the noblewoman’s attire.
Why not turn human? Are you kidding? This outfit is so small. If I turn human, I’ll strangle myself.
Luo Ke smiled and squatted down, placing her on the sofa to help her change.
The moment the maid outfit was off, while Luo Ke was reaching for the noblewoman’s attire, Lin Sifei’s cat pupils flashed. She instantly transformed back into a human, hooked a leg around Luo Ke, plastered herself against her, and bit her on the side of the neck.
Luo Ke sucked in a sharp breath.
Lin Sifei hummed proudly twice. “That’s what you get for bullying me.”
Luo Ke sat down on the sofa, letting Lin Sifei press her down and bite ferociously at her lips.
Luo Ke obediently submitted, but her fingers hooked onto the small outfit nearby, a glint in her eyes.
…
The next day, Lin Sifei got dressed and went into the walk-in closet to pick out clothes for Luo Ke.
Luo Ke had woken up a little late. She took a shower and got dressed. “Why are you up so early today?”
“Your phone woke me up.” Lin Sifei was squinting as she applied her eyeliner. Hearing the question, she smiled and turned around. “Zhao Min is about to cry. She scheduled a meeting for this morning with the people you postponed yesterday. If you don’t go, she’s really going to lose it.”
Zhao Min had also mentioned that Luo Ke was planning to bring her along. Luckily, she had rested a lot as a cat yesterday. And luckily, the time she needed to be a cat had shortened significantly; eight hours as a cat was enough to sustain her for sixteen hours as a human.
“Once you’re ready, we can go.”
Luo Ke was pushed in front of the mirror and asked with a curious smile, “You got specially dressed up today.”
“Of course. This is the first time you’re specifically taking me out to meet your business partners. I have to look my best. I absolutely can’t lose in terms of presence.”
Lin Sifei clenched her fists, psyching herself up.
Luo Ke smiled and tightened the silk bow on her chest. “Don’t be nervous. They’re just ordinary partners. You’ve met plenty of them at cocktail parties before.”
“That’s different.” Lin Sifei pouted, sitting beside her. “Before, I was just attending as your plus-one. Now, I’m your fiancée. People will see me as the other half of Luo Corporation’s representation. I represent the image of Luo Corporation and you. I can’t be careless.”
“You’re so amazing, I can’t hold you back,” Lin Sifei said, taking a deep breath and looking at her reflection in the mirror, trying to project an imposing aura.
“Should I be more approachable?” She then put on a gentle smile.
“No, why be gentle with business partners? It’s better to be a bit fierce.” She lowered her eyelids into a half-smile.
“That looks a bit punchable.” She fell into a dilemma.
Luo Ke picked up a lipstick, painted two strokes of red on her lips, then stood up and took her hand. “Just be yourself. None of that matters.”
“How can it not matter?”
Luo Ke thought for a moment and used herself as an example. “Look at me. I’m always cold-faced when I do business. Has that affected Luo Corporation’s development?”
“You’re different,” Lin Sifei pouted. “You’re too incredible.”
She felt a little discouraged. “It’s because you’re so incredible that I want to work hard.”
“We don’t need two business geniuses. What’s most important is that we’re happy together. If you want to help share my burden, then share a little. But I don’t want you to take on several times the pressure yourself after helping me. It’s not worth it.”
Luo Ke laced her fingers with hers. “You’re already so outstanding. Anyone who sees you will say I’m very lucky.”
Lin Sifei pressed her lips together, looking into her eyes. “Don’t say any more!”
Luo Ke looked puzzled.
“If you say another word, I won’t be able to stop myself from kissing you!” Lin Sifei’s cheeks flushed slightly. “And then we really won’t make it to the company on time.”
Luo Ke burst out laughing. “Alright, I won’t talk.”
“And don’t look at me!”
Luo Ke silently turned her face away, revealing her perfect profile and jawline.
Lin Sifei looked at the red mark on her neck, exposed by the movement, and swallowed. “Don’t turn your head either.”
Luo Ke looked at her helplessly. “Then maybe you should be the one who stops looking.”
“Good point!” Lin Sifei had a sudden realization. She raised a hand and loosely covered her eyes. “Okay, okay, let’s go. I’ll be better once we’re out the door.”
Luo Ke thought she looked absolutely adorable like this and wanted to take a bite. But unfortunately, they really did need to go to the company, or things would get difficult to handle.
She took Lin Sifei’s hand and led her out of the bedroom.
“We’re turning. Stairs ahead. That’s right, go down slowly.”
Lin Sifei held her hand, covering her eyes with complete trust.
“Last step. Very good, no more stairs,” Luo Ke said, narrating the path as she led Lin Sifei out the door.
Once outside, the scent of fresh grass quickly enveloped them.
Lin Sifei lowered the hand covering her eyes and looked at the expanse of green before them. “Spring is here. The grass is starting to turn green.”
“It’s not quite green yet. If you look up close, there’s nothing. We have to wait a little longer.”
Lin Sifei nodded, got into the car, and fastened her seatbelt. “Luo Ke, when spring really comes, let’s find some time to go on a spring outing.”
“Okay.”
Lin Sifei smiled, counting on her fingers. “We need a big lawn, and we’ll bring some food for a picnic. I’ve never actually been on a proper outing before. I want to do that thing where you spread a blanket out for a picnic.”
“Not only can we have a picnic, but we can also tie up a hammock. It’s really comfortable to lie in.”
“Wow!” Lin Sifei’s voice was full of envy. “You’ve been on an outing before.”
“In college, with my classmates.” Luo Ke thought back to her university days. That was a relatively happy time. Although she didn’t have many friends, people still liked to include her, to build a good relationship so they could easily ask for help with homework.
Lin Sifei was already starting to make plans. “When would be a good time for us to go?”
“When it’s a bit warmer. We also need to find a place. I’m not sure where we can have a picnic.”
Lin Sifei nodded. “We can ask Zhao Min. Leave it to her.”
Under Luo Ke’s subtle influence, she had also learned to torment Zhao Min. It was a good thing the salary was high, or the woman might have already run off.
Zhao Min had been squatting at the company entrance, longing for them as one longs for the stars and the moon.32 She suddenly felt a chill run down her spine and let out a huge sneeze.
Why do I have a bad feeling? Don’t tell me President Luo got lost in her land of gentleness33 and isn’t coming again. Please no!
Please, I’d rather have the workaholic President Luo back right now.
The author has something to say:
Zhao Min: Vomits three liters of blood34.
President Luo: I’ll give you a raise.
Zhao Min: Revives with full health35. Money is a good thing.
