After Transmigrating into the Villain’s Cat, I Dominated the Entertainment Circle – Chapter 78

Infiltrator

Bai Xingrui went to Hainan, really

Lin Sifei sealed the perfume away, hiding it in a place Luo Ke would absolutely never find—the cat bed she had originally bought for her.

With an elegant feline gait, Lin Sifei leaped onto the cat tree. She had made up her mind. She was going to give Luo Ke the cold shoulder and make her understand that using catnip to lure a cat was a shameless act.

“Xiao Xiao, come down,” Luo Ke called, tilting her head up.

Lin Sifei turned her head away and climbed deeper inside.

Luo Ke helplessly kneaded the back of her neck. All she could do was start apologizing, improvising a thousand-word self-criticism on the spot.

Lin Sifei’s ears twitched, but she pointedly ignored her.

Luo Ke’s phone vibrated. She glanced at it, her brow furrowing slightly. Looking back up, she said, “Let me think. I’ll come up with a new self-criticism in a bit.”

She walked quickly to the balcony, slid the glass door shut, and answered the call. “Hello, Li Tao, what’s up?”

“President Luo.” Li Tao took a deep breath. “I saw the materials you had someone send over, but the movie is in its promotional period right now. We already had to come up with an excuse for Lin Sifei’s incident last time, so it’s really not a good time to target Feng Xiao.”

“I’m not telling you to do it now.” Luo Ke glanced at the cat tail dangling from the cat tree. “Feng Xiao will definitely be preparing to jump to another company after the movie is out of theaters. That’s when you’ll make your move. Target her, but don’t involve Lin Sifei.”

“Alright, President Luo.” Li Tao shook his head with a sigh. This Feng Xiao had really offended someone powerful.

Luo Ke hung up and thought about what Lin Sifei had said yesterday about the explosion on set. She sent a message to the investigator.

【How are things looking?】

【Kong1: Don’t worry, Boss. We’ve gathered most of the evidence. But Luo Shengping was released on bail and secretly contacted someone again. The other party is very clever; we couldn’t catch them.】

Luo Ke frowned at the message. 【Move faster. I don’t want to see any more threats out there.】

【Kong: I’ll do my best.】

Luo Ke pressed her lips together, then walked back inside. “Xiao Xiao, how about we find a new place to live for a while?”

The question came so suddenly that Lin Sifei forgot to be angry. She let out a bewildered, “Meow?”

Luo Ke smiled at her. “Don’t you have an interview today? I was thinking, you’ll probably have a lot of interviews like this coming up. It might be much more convenient if we moved to the city center.”

“Meow?” Lin Sifei found the reason strange. She tapped on her keyboard and sent Luo Ke a message.

【That’s too much trouble. It took so long for this place to finally feel like home.】

Luo Ke froze for a second when she read the message. A faint smile touched her lips. So Xiao Xiao already sees this as our home.

Seeing no reaction, Lin Sifei thought she really wanted to move and quickly added another line.

【But if you really want to move, that’s fine too. As long as we’re together, anywhere can be our home.】

Luo Ke chuckled and looked up. “We’re not moving. This is perfect.” She made a mental note to upgrade the surrounding security system again.

That afternoon, Lin Sifei changed back into her human form and got ready for the interview. As she and Li Tao had discussed, her makeup was much more striking this time, especially the dark red shade of her lipstick.

Once the makeup artist had finalized the look, the stylist decided to pair it with a more understated outfit: a black, half-sleeved blazer, high-waisted skinny trousers, and a gray blouse.

Lin Sifei stood before the mirror and suddenly smiled.

She looked at Luo Ke. “See? Doesn’t this look a lot like your usual style?”

“I would never wear bright red lipstick,” Luo Ke said with a laugh, though her brow creased. “It seems a little dull.”

“See? You admit it. At least I have the vibrant color of my lipstick. You have none at all.” Lin Sifei pouted, showing off her crimson lips.

The stylist standing nearby chuckled and produced a flower-shaped diamond ring. The main body of the blooming rose petals was platinum, inlaid with white diamonds and red gemstones.

“This pairing won’t be dull at all.” She then took out a thin silver chain and fastened it around Lin Sifei’s waist.

Lin Sifei turned slightly to the side. The conservative blazer clashed with the unconventional chain, as if revealing a spark of passion hidden beneath a composed exterior.

Luo Ke’s gaze fell on the thin chain, then slid down to her waist, and then further down to her hips…

“Hey!” Lin Sifei snapped her fingers in front of Luo Ke’s face. “What are you thinking about so intently?”

Luo Ke jerked back to reality with a smile. “Nothing.”

Lin Sifei moved closer, squinting as she studied her. Finally, she leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Your eyes are giving you away. All you think about is that.”

She gripped Luo Ke’s collar, raised her right hand, and gently tapped her own lips with two fingers before pressing them against Luo Ke’s. “Let’s go.”

Luo Ke touched her own lips as she walked by her side.

The interview was being held in a private studio on an upper floor of the television station.

Lin Sifei wasn’t the first to arrive, so she sat down on the edge of a sofa to rest. Soon, everyone else was there. The moment Feng Xiao walked in, she greeted everyone with a smile but remained standing.

The center seat was obviously the best spot for a live broadcast, but she wasn’t the female lead. If she took it while Lin Sifei was sitting elsewhere, her intentions would be too obvious.

Lin Sifei saw right through her. She glanced around casually and, sure enough, the cameras were already rolling, clearly filming some behind-the-scenes footage2. She stood up and walked over to Feng Xiao. “Feng Xiao, how was your New Year? Find any good food?”

“You should ask Yuanyuan about food. I just stayed home with my family,” Feng Xiao laughed. “I was only back for two days before they started getting sick of me.”

Lin Sifei laughed and pulled Lu Heng and Chen Qiyuan into the conversation. The group formed a circle, chattering away like a flock of little birds.

Director Chen was the last to arrive. Seeing the lively group in the studio, he waved with a smile. “Why are you all so talkative? Come on!”

He plopped himself down right in the middle seat. “Lu Heng and Lin Sifei, sit on either side of me. Chen Qiyuan, you sit next to Sifei, and Feng Xiao, you sit next to Lu Heng.”

Lin Sifei found the arrangement a bit odd. “Director Chen, why did you put Feng Xiao next to Lu Heng-ge? She’s my sister in the movie.”

“I’m worried someone will edit clips together and ship Lu Heng and Chen Qiyuan. Feng Xiao is your sister, so they’d have to think twice before making a CP3 out of them.”

Lin Sifei gave him a thumbs-up. “That’s some immortal-level thinking4.”

The interview included questions from fans and some fun segments, like having the cast pick an animal that represented each other.

For Lu Heng, Lin Sifei chose a sheep—specifically, a handsome and majestic Tibetan antelope.

The host asked curiously, “Why a Tibetan antelope?”

“Because the horns on a Tibetan antelope are fierce, and they are incredibly brave when defending their territory. But because they’re sheep, people always assume they’re weak. That’s a lot like Lu Heng-ge. He always seems gentle and considerate, but he’s actually very strong on the inside. He often took care of us on set.”

Lin Sifei’s words won Lu Heng a lot of goodwill. The host immediately started clapping. “I never knew Lu Heng was such a strong pillar of support! A lot of people thought Feifei was the one who would always challenge5 Director Chen, but it was actually Lu Heng.”

Hearing this, Lu Heng quickly waved his hands. “It was really her. I don’t challenge him.”

“Right. You just subtly stand to the side and go, ‘Director Chen, his idea is pretty good. Director Chen, you should consider it.’ Hahaha, and then Director Chen would fall for it.”

Lin Sifei didn’t hesitate to tear down his stage6.

Director Chen put a hand on Lu Heng’s shoulder. “So you two were playing good cop, bad cop! One of you was singing the red face, and the other was singing the white face7.”

After the laughter died down, Director Chen affirmed that Lu Heng had a talent for directing and said that if he ever decided to stop acting, he could take him on as his apprentice.

Lu Heng waved his hands repeatedly. “Not for now. I’m not mentally prepared to go from being your friend to your disciple.”

The live interview concluded on a happy note. Lin Sifei waved at the camera, saying goodbye to everyone.

“Wait, one last question! Sifei, your outfit today is very different from your previous style. Did you change stylists?”

Lin Sifei smiled and shook her head. “No, those were all my private clothes8. I specifically asked the stylist for this look today because my manager said I couldn’t pull off any other style. You’ll all be seeing me in many different styles from now on, so don’t be surprised.”

“Is it to prove you have a wide acting range9?” Lu Heng chimed in from the side.

Lin Sifei nodded eagerly. “Actually, everyone in our cast has a wide acting range. Don’t let one project define you. Feng Xiao has been in many TV dramas, Yuanyuan is a newcomer but has played all sorts of minor characters, and Lu Heng-ge is the most underestimated of all. His acting has nothing to do with his real-life personality.”

Lin Sifei rattled on, launching into a group promotion. Director Chen walked up and patted her on the shoulder. “《Light》 has only been out for a few days, and you’re already thinking about your next drama?”

“Just planning ahead,” Lin Sifei said. Fearing she was about to get hit, she quickly ran off.

The live broadcast was a perfect success. Lin Sifei linked her arm with Luo Ke’s and sidled up to Director Chen. “Director Chen, 《Light》 has been submitted to the film festival, right? Do you think we have a good chance of winning?”

“There’s a chance, but the theme isn’t particularly novel, and there have been a lot of excellent films recently. Still, you have a shot at making an impact.” His words meant he wasn’t sure either.

Lin Sifei nodded. She had felt it while filming, too. The movie’s main strength was its emotional conflict, but some parts hadn’t been executed perfectly. Still, as a newcomer, she had a solid chance at the new talent award.

She waved goodbye to him and happily got into the Nanny Van10 with Luo Ke. Luo Ke handed her a phone. “Li Tao called just now. He got you an endorsement deal.”

“What kind of deal?” Lin Sifei took a look. It was for a skincare product from a pretty mainstream brand. “Not bad.”

She smiled and replied to him, then looked up at Luo Ke. “How about we make hot pot11 at home tonight?”

“Aren’t you going to sign the contract?”

“He can just send it over. The manager handles all the negotiations.”

Luo Ke nodded and told Li Jing to drive to the supermarket. Lin Sifei grabbed a long down jacket12 from the car and put it on, adding a mask and a fisherman’s hat13 to make herself less conspicuous.

Li Jing was about to follow them, but her fierce aura was so intense it would draw too much attention.

So Lin Sifei decisively left her in the car, pulled Luo Ke’s hair back into a low ponytail, put a hat on her, and pulled her out of the vehicle.

The supermarket was crowded during the New Year holiday. Lin Sifei pushed a small cart, moving slowly. She leaned toward Luo Ke and sighed helplessly. “Getting stuck in traffic is one thing, but getting stuck in traffic just to buy groceries is another.”

Luo Ke let out a soft laugh and plucked some fruit jelly from a nearby shelf. “Want this?”

Lin Sifei nodded vigorously, and Luo Ke grabbed two packs.

“Oh, they have longan14 over there,” Lin Sifei called out, turning the cart and squeezing through the stream of shoppers to the shelf.

Longan

“Which brand is good?”

Lin Sifei shook her head, scanning the shelf. “Let’s just get the biggest bag.”

Luo Ke pulled out a huge bag of longan from the bottom shelf. Lin Sifei urged her on, “Get another one, get another one.”

“Eating too many will cause you to suffer from excessive internal heat15,” Luo Ke said with a frown, but she still grabbed two more bags for her. “You can only eat a little bit each day when we get home. No more than that.”

Lin Sifei stared greedily at the longan, her face scrunching up. “Then you have to hide them well. Make sure I don’t see them.”

She took a deep breath, as if steeling her resolve.

Luo Ke smiled. “Okay, I’ll hide them so well you’ll never find them.”

Lin Sifei cast one more reluctant look at the longan before turning her head. “Come on, let’s go look at other things.”

The two of them wound their way to the fresh produce section, buying fruits, vegetables, and rolls of beef and lamb.

“This should be enough. We can’t eat that much anyway,” Lin Sifei said. She tilted her head and looked at Luo Ke. “Should we ask Li Jing to stay and eat with us?”

“No need. She mentioned before that her family is waiting for her to come home for dinner.”

Lin Sifei nodded. “What about Bai Xingrui? Should we invite her?”

“She should probably stay hidden for now. Someone’s looking for her. It would be bad if she was seen out and about.” Luo Ke held up a small basket in her hand. “Want these fish balls?”

“Yes! Let’s get a lot of those.”

Luo Ke picked out a few more items, and they went to weigh them and check out.

“This is so much,” Lin Sifei said as she and Luo Ke each carried a side of the bags, walking quickly back to the Nanny Van.

When Li Jing saw them, she got out to help put the groceries in the car.

Back home, Lin Sifei took out the duck wings the chef had prepared earlier and packed them for Li Jing. “The chef plated two portions. We haven’t touched this one. They’re delicious.”

Li Jing couldn’t refuse her kindness. She thanked her and left with the food.

Lin Sifei closed the door and ran over to Luo Ke, helping her wash the vegetables. Once everything was plated, Luo Ke put the hot pot base into the pot and turned on the induction cooker.

“It smells so good,” Lin Sifei said, picking up her chopsticks in anticipation. “I haven’t had hot pot in so long.”

The broth came to a boil, and Lin Sifei started adding ingredients. She had hesitated when choosing the soup base but ultimately went with the spicy one. With a bottle of Coke each, they ate the fiery food.

Outside the window, snowflakes drifted down slowly. Inside, the two of them sat at the table, talking and eating hot pot.

After they finished, Lin Sifei and Luo Ke walked around the house to aid their digestion. Lin Sifei started feeling dizzy from walking in circles, so she got on the treadmill and walked instead.

Luo Ke went to cut up an apple. After walking for a bit to digest, she came down and ate it.

Lin Sifei stretched comfortably. “If this keeps up, I’m going to get fat again.”

“You exercise. You won’t get fat.”

Lin Sifei thought about it, walked for another ten minutes to console herself, and then happily jumped into Luo Ke’s arms. They went upstairs to comfortably watch TV.

She found an anime and watched for a while, but her fingers started fidgeting restlessly.

Luo Ke pressed her hand down and narrowed her eyes. “What are you trying to do?”

Lin Sifei’s eyes darted around. She hemmed and hawed for a moment before finally looking at Luo Ke. “Where’s the longan?”

Luo Ke sat up straight. “You just finished hot pot. If you eat longan now, you’ll suffer from excessive internal heat and get pimples on your face.”

“It’s fine, I don’t have acne-prone skin. I want to eat longan,” Lin Sifei said, hugging her coquettishly and burrowing into her arms.

“No. I’ll go cut some fruit for you.” Luo Ke pried her arms away.

“No, no, I just want to eat longan.” Lin Sifei clung to her, refusing to let go.

Luo Ke sighed. “I’ll go get them for you. You eat however many I bring, and you’re not allowed to ask for more.”

Lin Sifei nodded vigorously, her eyes shining. “I promise I won’t eat too many. But don’t just bring a tiny amount, okay?”

Luo Ke pushed her away with a helpless smile. “I know. I’ll go downstairs and get them.”

She got out of bed and put on her slippers. Lin Sifei watched her back with puppy-dog eyes. The moment she was out the door, a little devil popped up in Lin Sifei’s mind.

Follow her and see where she hides the longan. That way, you can sneak some when Luo Ke isn’t looking.

Lin Sifei threw back the covers, but as she stuck her foot out, a little angel appeared. You can’t peek! You promised Luo Ke you wouldn’t eat too many.

Little Devil: Just a few when you really crave them. That’s not too many at all.

Little Angel: You definitely won’t be able to resist. Once you start, you won’t be able to stop.

Little Devil: I can stop!

Little Angel: If you could stop, you wouldn’t have asked Luo Ke to hide them in the first place.

Little Devil: Eat if you want to eat! Why buy them if you can’t eat them!

Lin Sifei clenched her fist. That’s right. They were bought to be eaten. Once I’ve had enough, I’ll stop.

She leaped out of bed and ran out the door.

She had just reached the top of the stairs when she ran right into Luo Ke.

Luo Ke jumped, startled. She handed the small box in her hand to Lin Sifei. “Why did you run out?”

Lin Sifei looked at the longan inside and smiled, pinching the edge of the box. “I was just so impatient, I ran out to find you.”

“You weren’t trying to sneak a peek at where the longan is hidden, were you?” Luo Ke raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile on her lips.

Lin Sifei froze, then quickly shook her head. “Of course not! I would never peek.”

Her tone was self-confident, as if she were completely in the right16, but her eyes guiltily darted toward Luo Ke.

Luo Ke pretended not to notice, unable to stop herself from smiling as she wrapped an arm around her and led her back to the room.

The box was filled with plenty of longan, and Lin Sifei and Luo Ke shared them.

After finishing the fruit, Lin Sifei brushed her teeth and lay down on the bed, feeling refreshed. “Time for sleep.”

“You have another promotional event tomorrow, right?”

Lin Sifei nodded with her eyes closed. “But it shouldn’t be too much trouble.”

Luo Ke stroked her face. “Get a good night’s sleep anyway. You’ll be in better shape tomorrow.”

Lin Sifei scooted closer to her and wrapped her arms around her to sleep.

Outside, the clouds grew thicker, completely obscuring the moonlight. The entire sky was pitch-black, which in turn made the snow on the ground seem even brighter.

A trail of footprints led to the base of the perimeter wall. A rope with a grappling hook latched onto the top, pulling up a device. The machines in the courtyard were jammed; the security cameras spun a few times before getting stuck pointing at the sky.

A dark figure leaped onto the wall, used a knife to cut a hole in the glass of the balcony door, and carefully slipped inside.

He lay flat on the floor, listening for any movement. Once he was sure the people inside were not on the first floor, he carefully stood up, did a sweep of the ground floor, and went upstairs.

He expertly avoided the bedroom, opened a nearby door to find a guest room, then moved on, opening two more doors before successfully finding the study.

He immediately slipped inside and rummaged through everything. He took out several files, then found the safe and prepared to crack the code.

At the same time, a sharp noise pierced Luo Ke’s ears. Her eyes flew open, and she shut off the small machine by her pillow. She turned to look at Lin Sifei beside her.

Lin Sifei only frowned a little. Once the sound was gone, she fell back into a deep sleep.

Luo Ke pulled a fruit knife from under her pillow, crept to the door, and opened it a tiny crack.

A breeze blew in through the gap, lifting the stray hairs at her forehead.

Soon, the sound of footsteps echoed, and a dark figure ran down the hallway. But then the footsteps stopped. The person wasn’t moving.

Luo Ke raised the knife, waiting on high alert.

With a loud bang, the bedroom door was violently kicked open. Luo Ke swiftly grabbed a nearby vase and smashed it against the intruder.

The vase shattered on impact. Lin Sifei shot up in bed. “Luo Ke?”

“Call the police!”

Lin Sifei only saw Luo Ke’s figure flash past her, followed by the sound of frantic footsteps and a collision.

Lin Sifei grabbed the phone from the nightstand and dialed the police.

The moment the call connected, she quickly reported the address. “Someone broke into the house! I don’t know who it is, please hurry!”

In the face of extreme danger, Lin Sifei’s mind was unusually clear. She slipped on her slippers, repeated the address to the police, then hung up and rushed out.

Two figures were grappling at the top of the stairs. In the light from the window, she could clearly see the intruder was a man.

Lin Sifei saw Luo Ke get slammed against the wall. Her mouth fell open, and her eyes landed on a decorative vase on a nearby table. She charged forward, grabbed the vase, and smashed it against the man.

Seeing Lin Sifei approach, Luo Ke desperately grabbed hold of the man’s hands.

The vase hit the man under his jaw. Shards fell onto Luo Ke, and a piece cut Lin Sifei’s face.

The man cried out in pain and violently shook off Luo Ke’s grip.

Lin Sifei bit her lower lip, grabbed him, and shoved.

The man yelled, “Ah!” and tumbled down the stairs. He instinctively grabbed onto Lin Sifei’s clothes.

Lin Sifei let out a muffled grunt as she was dragged down with him. She instantly transformed into a cat and leaped out of her clothes. She let out a piercing shriek, pounced on the man, and bit down hard on his face. Before he could grab her, she jumped onto a nearby shelf.

“Meeooww!”

A cat’s eyes could see clearly in the dark. Lin Sifei got a good look at the man’s face and what he was carrying. When she saw the dagger he pulled out, her pupils narrowed into slits, and she arched her back. “Meeeooowl!”

The man stood up, gripping the dagger tightly, and grabbed something nearby to throw at her.

Lin Sifei leaped nimbly out of the way, keeping a wary eye on his blade.

Footsteps sounded from the top of the stairs. Luo Ke swayed as she walked down.

The man’s gaze immediately shifted to her, and he charged up with the dagger.

“Luo Ke!”

With a crash, a black shadow kicked through the glass and burst in. She landed a clean kick on the man’s shoulder, sending him flying.

The man crashed onto the stairs, the dagger flying from his hand.

He immediately tried to get up and retrieve it, but the black shadow stomped on his hand and brought a knee down on his neck.

“Don’t move!”

The shadow spoke in slightly non-standard Mandarin Chinese17. Lin Sifei’s eyes widened in surprise.

The police arrived quickly. Before they did, Lin Sifei had changed back into her clothes.

The intruder was already subdued. The police took him away for investigation.

Luo Ke and Lin Sifei were taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The person who had rushed in to save them came along as well.

As a doctor treated her wounds, Lin Sifei stared curiously at the newcomer’s silver hair and blue eyes.

“Are you from Russia?” Luo Ke asked with a slight frown.

Diana nodded. “That’s right. I’m also Bai Xingrui’s girlfriend. I’m here to find her.”

“How did you find this place?”

Diana said, “I found a tracking device nearby. The last image on it was of her ringing your doorbell.”

Luo Ke closed her eyes in exasperation. That Bai Xingrui! So her idea of getting rid of the tracker was to just toss it near my house?!

Lin Sifei sized up Diana. Noticing her gaze, the other woman’s blue eyes looked back at her.

Lin Sifei gave an awkward smile. “Your eyes are very pretty.”

“Thank you.” Diana looked at her. “Where did you hide Rui’er?”

“I didn’t hide her.” Lin Sifei leaned closer to Luo Ke. “She’s an adult. How would I know where she goes?”

Diana frowned. “You’re lying!”

“I’m not lying.” Lin Sifei’s eyes darted around.

Diana’s frown deepened. “Don’t think that just because you’re Rui’er’s friend, I’ll let you push me around!”

“That’s not how you use that phrase,” Lin Sifei muttered under her breath, but on the surface, she put on a terrified act.

“I… she… she went to Hainan18. She said she was afraid of the cold and wanted to go there to thaw out.”

Diana looked confused. “Really?”

“Why would I lie to you?” Lin Sifei said, feigning annoyance.

Diana thought for a moment, then fell silent again. When they arrived at the hospital, she got out of the ambulance and left without another word.

Lin Sifei wrapped her arms around Luo Ke and slowly lifted her head, declaring arrogantly, “Hmph. Trying to pull that micro-expression19 stuff on me? When it comes to acting, I’ve never lost.”

She looked proudly at Luo Ke, who couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, I guess that’s one way to lead her astray.”

Lin Sifei scratched her head. “Even if she is our lifesaver, we still can’t let her find Bai Xingrui.”

“Mm. Hopefully she’ll give up soon if she can’t find her.”
