After a round of checks, Lin Sifei had completely sobered up. She sat on the chair with Luo Ke, her face slightly red, looking for all the world like two criminals.

“You really didn’t drink,” the police officer said, looking at them strangely. “And this detector isn’t broken, so what’s going on? Didn’t you say you didn’t eat anything either?”

Lin Sifei’s face turned even redder. She silently raised her hand and said in a voice as quiet as a mosquito, “I… I drank, and then we kissed.”

Her voice was too soft, and with a drunk person shouting nearby, the officer couldn’t hear her clearly. “What did you say?”

“We kissed!” Lin Sifei suddenly raised her voice and shouted.

The surroundings instantly fell silent. The officer gave an awkward but polite smile. “Oh, I… I see.”

By the time they were done, it was getting late. Luo Ke checked the time and called her driver to come over.

“Aren’t you driving back yourself?”

“What if we get stopped again on the way?” Luo Ke pinched her cheek, feeling much better as she watched her pout like a duck.

Seeing the hint of a smile on Luo Ke’s face, Lin Sifei started smiling too.

The lights of the police station shone from behind, illuminating the noisy road before them.

Luo Ke reached out, put an arm around Lin Sifei’s shoulders, and pulled the suit jacket from her own shoulders and draped it over Lin Sifei. “Are you cold?”

“I’m not cold.” Lin Sifei turned her head and saw Luo Ke’s exposed cast, wanting to give the jacket back.

“You’re not wearing much. I’ve still got another layer on underneath.”

Lin Sifei sneezed, sniffled, and obediently kept the jacket on. She sized up Luo Ke. Dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and pants, she stood perfectly straight. Even with the cast, she gave off the vibe of a big sister boss² from the streets.

The corner of Luo Ke’s lips curled up. “What are you looking at?”

“I’m looking at how beautiful you are.” Lin Sifei burst out laughing. “How did you get to be so pretty, President Luo?”

“Genetics.” Luo Ke glanced at her with a smile and reached out to pinch her nose.

Lin Sifei shrank her neck back and opened her mouth to bite her.

Luo Ke raised her hand, deliberately teasing her. Lin Sifei, who had worn high heels to the wrap party banquet³, suddenly tilted sideways and was about to tumble down the steps.

Startled, Luo Ke spun around to block her.

Lin Sifei bumped into a button on Luo Ke’s chest, bruising the tip of her nose. Her brows furrowed as tears welled up in her eyes.

“That hurts.”

Luo Ke helplessly rubbed her head. “You should be more careful.”

Lin Sifei puffed out her cheeks and looked down at her feet. “It’s all these shoes’ fault.”

“You’re not short. Don’t wear heels this high in the future.”

“But everyone else is tall. If I don’t wear them, I’ll be short.” Lin Sifei sighed worriedly. “Keeping up with others is terrifying.”

“You know it’s terrifying, but you still do it.”

“But if I don’t, I’ll get hate online.” Lin Sifei leaned against her shoulder, looking pitifully wronged⁴. “The things they say are so nasty.”

Luo Ke took a deep breath and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

“President Luo!” The driver honked the horn twice.

Luo Ke spotted the car and guided Lin Sifei toward it, her arm still around her shoulders. “Let’s go. Time to go home and rest.”

Lin Sifei nodded earnestly, then nuzzled against her excitedly. “Yeah! Starting tomorrow, I don’t have to act anymore. I can stay with you all the time. Aren’t you happy?”

“Happy, I’m happy.” Luo Ke gave a helpless smile and helped her into the car.

Lin Sifei smiled and nuzzled against her neck.

When they got home, Luo Ke helped her through the door and placed her on the bed.

She picked up the nearby blanket to cover Lin Sifei’s stomach, then went into the bathroom to draw her a bath.

The water in the bathtub slowly rose. Luo Ke sat on the edge of the tub, took out her phone, and frowned at the long list of incoming calls. She blocked them one by one.

Steam filled the bathroom. Luo Ke walked out, placed her phone on the cabinet, knelt on the bed with one knee, and patted her cheek. “Xiaoxiao, wake up. Time for a bath.”

Lin Sifei let out a couple of whimpering⁵ sounds and burrowed deeper into the blankets.

Amused, Luo Ke pinched her nose. “Get up.”

Lin Sifei finally opened her eyes uncomfortably. She squinted at her for a moment before suddenly throwing herself into her arms, hugging her waist and nuzzling against her.

Luo Ke helplessly stroked her head. “My arm’s broken. I can’t carry you or give you a piggyback ride. Get up and go to the bathroom yourself.”

“Hmph——” Lin Sifei whined, drawing out the sound. She tilted her head, peeking with one eye. “Wanna wash together?”

“Sure.”

Lin Sifei grinned, revealing her little tiger teeth⁶.

The warm yellow light of the bathroom shone on Lin Sifei’s skin, reflecting a soft glow.

Luo Ke’s collar was unbuttoned twice. “Help me out. It’s hard to take my clothes off with this arm.”

Lin Sifei smiled, rested her hands on Luo Ke’s shoulders, and helped her slip off her shirt. Her eyes traveled down from her shoulder; the light hitting her skin made it look like it was drizzled with honey.

Lin Sifei opened her mouth and licked her shoulder, looking at her with a smile.

Early in the morning, as Luo Ke slept, she felt a warm bundle on her chest. She reached out to touch it, and familiar fur squeezed between her fingers.

With her eyes still closed, the image of Lin Sifei in her cat form already appeared in her mind.

It seemed they had been at it until too late last night and had fallen asleep right after. Looks like I’ll be spending another day with kitty Xiaoxiao.

Luo Ke kept her eyes closed, planning to take a return-to-sleep nap⁷. The phone by the bed rang. It was the video intercom connected to the main gate, but these days, it was almost exclusively used by security.

“Hello?” Luo Ke sat up.

The kitten rumbled and rolled off her chest, continuing to sleep soundly.

Luo Ke smiled and stroked her belly.

“Excuse me, is this Ms. Luo Ke, the owner of Building 13? This is security, ID number 17xxx8.”

Luo Ke held the receiver with her shoulder while pulling up the security guard’s information on her phone. The photo matched, and the voice was indeed his.

“This is she. What can I do for you?”

“It’s like this.” It was a bit noisy on the guard’s end, and he seemed to move somewhere quieter. “It’s like this, your relatives are at the gate, and they’re making a scene trying to get in.”

Luo Ke’s expression darkened. “I believe I’ve said that no one is to be let in to see me recently.”

“Then we can rest assured. We just needed to confirm since they’re relatives.” The guard hesitated. “Lately, there have been people trying to sneak in. The captain said their route seems to be heading toward your area, so please be careful.”

“Alright, thanks for the warning.” Luo Ke rubbed the bridge of her nose worriedly and put down the receiver.

Lin Sifei, who had rolled onto her stomach, rubbed her eyes and woke up. “Miao~“

Luo Ke reached out and scratched her head. “You’re awake.”

Lin Sifei stretched out a paw, then flopped back down helplessly.

Luo Ke lifted her aside and got up to get dressed. “Since you’ve turned into a cat today, you might as well come to the office with me.”

She gave up on a regular shirt and chose a dickey collar instead, pulling it on easily. She then grabbed her suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders to hide the cast on her arm.

“Let’s go.”

Lin Sifei dragged out her special keyboard and connected it to a tablet. “Aren’t we eating breakfast?”

“It’s a little late. We’ll buy something to eat when we get to the office.”

Lin Sifei nodded and lay in her arms, holding the keyboard.

As soon as they entered the office, Zhao Min happily came over. “Wow, Xiaoxiao is here! Long time no see.”

Lin Sifei hid against Luo Ke’s chest, refusing to be petted. Zhao Min clutched her heart in sorrow.

Luo Ke felt quite pleased. “You should get one of your own.”

“I adopted one, but it’s still at the vet.”
