Not Replying to My Message Again
Didn’t Even Look at Me
Luo Ke looked at Lin Sifei’s sleeping face and lay down on the bed next to her, a faint smile gracing the corner of her lips.
Suddenly, her smile froze. She sat up in bed and hastily grabbed her phone to call Li Jing.
“Go wake Xiao Xiao up! She has to sleep as a cat.”
Hearing this, Li Jing grabbed a spare room key and, wearing a sports bra, burst open Lin Sifei’s door.
“Miss Lin, wake up!” She reached out and shook Lin Sifei’s arm. “You have to film tomorrow, hurry up and turn into a cat.”
“So annoying!” Lin Sifei furrowed her brows, still drowsy and half-asleep, and waved her hand away.
“Miss Lin!”
Lin Sifei raised her hands to cover her ears. With a poof, her clothes deflated.
“What happened?” Luo Ke’s anxious voice came through Li Jing’s phone.
Li Jing picked up her phone. “She’s already changed back. It hasn’t been twelve hours.”
Luo Ke let out a long sigh of relief. Li Jing looked at the stirring clothes, glanced at her phone, and quietly reached into the pile of clothing to pull out the kitten inside.
Don’t suffocate in there.
Lin Sifei was sleeping so soundly that she didn’t even wake up when she was pulled out of her clothes. Without the fabric obstructing her, she took a deep breath, licked her lips, and continued to sleep.
Luo Ke told her to go back and rest. Li Jing turned off the lights, closed the door, and returned to her own room.
“Li Jing, have you ever told Xiao Xiao that soaking her feet helps with sleep?”
Upon hearing this, Li Jing immediately became serious. “You’ve said before that I shouldn’t speak to or have contact with Miss Lin unless necessary. I have not said anything like that.”
Luo Ke leaned back on her pillow and pressed a hand to her brow. “I see. Thank you for your hard work.”
“It’s no trouble. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now.”
Luo Ke hummed in agreement. Staring at the dark screen of her phone, she tossed it aside and lay down under the covers.
Who is this assistant Lin Sifei mentioned?
Luo Ke closed her eyes, but her mind was filled with bits and pieces of her time with Lin Sifei. Her familiarity with human food and daily life, her superb and exquisite acting skills, her dream of performing in a stage play, her ease in navigating social scenes, and the sudden appearance of an assistant.
No matter how she looked at it, Lin Sifei didn’t seem like a newly transformed cat demon who was a novice in the entertainment industry, but rather a seasoned veteran.
Luo Ke ruffled her hair, found her phone, and sent a photo of Lin Sifei to someone on the other end. 【Help me investigate this person.】
She closed her eyes again, but she wasn’t the least bit sleepy.
The next day on set, Lin Sifei glanced at Feng Xiao before walking straight past her and into the dressing room.
Today, they were once again scheduled to film the scene between Feng Xiao and Lin Sifei that had failed the day before. Lin Sifei closed her eyes to rest, already prepared to keep getting NGs.
Lu Heng noticed her fatigue. After filming a portion of his scenes, he walked directly over to Feng Xiao. “Feng Xiao, how are you feeling about the character of Xiao Xing now?”
“I think I should be okay now.” Feng Xiao gave him a gentle smile.
Lu Heng was stunned by her smile. He had thought she would be resistant to him giving her notes, but he didn’t expect that she seemed to have truly composed herself. “Then act well. This is a really great role.”
Feng Xiao smiled and waved her hand. “I will. Thank you for the encouragement, Lu Heng-ge.1“
“It’s nothing. Go on.”
Feng Xiao gave him a slight bow and trotted over.
Lu Heng watched her retreating back, his brow slightly furrowed.
Lin Sifei stood in the middle of the camera setup, took a deep breath, and when she opened her eyes again, she was Xiao Yue, a girl born blind.
“Xingxing, let’s go home.”
Xiao Xing lowered her head, looking at the other children her age running around not far away. She hesitated for a moment, then said in a tiny voice, “I want to play a little longer.”
“I forgot. It’s rare for us to get out. You should hurry and play with your classmates. I want to sit by the railing and feel the breeze.”
Xiao Xing helped her over. “Then… I’ll go over there.”
“Go on.”
However, when the Xiao parents arrived later, they only saw Xiao Yue by herself and angrily scolded Xiao Xing.
Xiao Yue grabbed Xiao Xing’s hand. “I wanted to be alone. Mom, Dad, can you please stop treating me like a blind person and just treat me like a normal person?”
Her parents instantly fell silent and smiled, saying they would all go home together.
Xiao Xing looked at her sister, feeling a little wronged and a little jealous that her sister was the family’s treasure.
Xiao Yue suddenly turned her head and “looked” at Xiao Xing. “I’m your older sister. Don’t worry.”
The entire sequence was filmed smoothly. Feng Xiao’s emotional control was excellent; even Lin Sifei raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Director Chen watched the clip, pursing his lips. “Feng Xiao, you can handle this part even better. Do you think you can do another take?”
“No problem.” Feng Xiao smiled humbly and looked at Lin Sifei. “Sorry to trouble you, Feifei-jie.”
Lin Sifei turned and walked back, and they did it all over again.
After the scene was finished, Lin Sifei sat down in her chair, and Li Jing handed her a glass of lemonade.
Lin Sifei chewed on the straw, a small handheld fan blowing in her hand. She couldn’t shake a feeling of unease. Feng Xiao’s transformation was too fast, and she had just recently met with Yan Yafei.
Lu Heng walked over, and Lin Sifei immediately offered him the fan. “Feng Xiao has suddenly become so humble. Did you persuade her?”
“No.” Lu Heng shook his head, squinting at Feng Xiao, who was distributing drinks to people in the distance. “Be careful. Something’s not right.”
Lin Sifei propped her chin on her hand. “This is so annoying. I just want to act in peace.”
“You’re the one who chose the actor.” Lu Heng chuckled, took her fan, and sauntered away.
Lin Sifei took off her sunglasses. “HEY! Give me back my fan!”
She chewed on her straw in resignation and looked back at Feng Xiao, just in time to meet Feng Xiao’s gaze.
Feng Xiao smiled at her, handed the bag in her hands to her assistant, and walked over with a bottle. “Feifei-jie, would you like a drink?”
Lin Sifei took it. “Thanks.”
She shook it in her hand and tried to open the cap; it was sealed. Only then did she smile, open it, and tilt her head back for a sip.
Feng Xiao watched her, clasped her hands together, and bowed. “I was ignorant before. Feifei-jie, please don’t hold it against me.”
“How could I hold anything against you?” Lin Sifei stood up and patted her on the shoulder. “I just want to film a good movie. Your interpretation of the character is excellent now. Congratulations.”
“Thank you.” Feng Xiao smiled and brushed her hair back.
She glanced at her assistant not far away. The assistant quickly looked at her and offered the oolong tea in her hand. Feng Xiao understood the gesture, smiled, and left.
Lin Sifei wiped the sweat from her forehead and went to touch up her makeup before filming again.
The entire day went by extremely smoothly. Everyone had gotten into their roles, especially Feng Xiao and Chen Qiyuan. It was as if their acting skills had advanced by leaps and bounds, saving a lot of time. Director Chen had a smile on his face all day long.
“Since everyone is in such good shape today, let’s film a few more takes.”
“In that case, we’ll be slacking off tomorrow,” Lin Sifei joked with a smile, immediately drawing a round of cheers.
Director Chen pointed at them. “Wouldn’t it be nice to finish filming early and go home?”
The location shoot was only for a few days anyway, and the main scenes didn’t focus on Lin Sifei. She calculated that her part wasn’t particularly large, so she could take her time and film at a leisurely pace.
“Done, done. Back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.” Lin Sifei stretched and happily dove into the van.
She took out her phone and sent a message to Luo Ke. 【I’m done with filming. What are you up to?】
After sending the message, Lin Sifei cupped her phone and waited. A long time passed with no reply. She pouted, leaned back, and started scrolling through Weibo2, periodically switching back to check her messages.
“What is she doing? Not replying to my message today either. What is she so busy with now?” She pouted her lips and grumbled under her breath.
Li Jing tilted her head and glanced at her, watching her tap frantically on her phone before turning back around.
When they arrived at the hotel, Lin Sifei put on her sunglasses in a huff and strode through the entrance.
A hand suddenly grabbed her shoulder, making her scream.
Luo Ke reached out and pulled off her sunglasses. “It’s me.”
Lin Sifei’s eyes widened in surprise, and she couldn’t stop her mouth from breaking into a wide grin. “What are you doing here!”
She threw her arms around Luo Ke, jumping with joy.
Luo Ke smiled and hugged her back. “I got here a while ago. But you? You had your sunglasses on and didn’t even look at me.”
“I didn’t see you.” Lin Sifei wrapped her arms around her waist, giggling as she buried her head in her chest.
The tips of Luo Ke’s ears turned slightly red. She reached out and pinched her waist. “Taking advantage of me, are you?”
“Well… are you going to let me?” Lin Sifei put on a deliberately pure and innocent look.
Luo Ke put an arm around her and walked into the elevator. “Of course you can.”
Outside the elevator, Zhao Min dragged her suitcase and watched the elevator doors close in front of her, on the verge of tears.
Li Jing walked to her side, glanced at the suitcase that came up to her waist and the two laptop bags. “Want some help?”
“YES!” Zhao Min whipped her head around. “Thank you.”
The hotel’s wall sconces cast a yellow glow. Lin Sifei lay beside Luo Ke, looking at her with a smile. “You came here just to see me.”
“What else?” Luo Ke smiled and pinched her cheek.
She glanced at the air conditioner and pulled the blanket up higher. “Are you cold? I’ll turn up the temperature.”
“Okay. I’m going to take a shower in a bit, so it’ll be cold going over.” Lin Sifei lay in bed, rubbing her feet against her under the covers.
Luo Ke glanced at her, then pounced, her hands tickling her waist.
“Hahahaha, I was wrong, I won’t mess around anymore, spare me!” Lin Sifei thrashed about like a fish on shore.
Luo Ke pressed down on top of her and kissed her on the lips.
“Go take a shower.”
She reached out, pulled Lin Sifei up, and went into the bathroom with her.
Warm water sprayed down from above, falling on the two of them.
Lin Sifei looked at Luo Ke, bit her lower lip, and suddenly reached out to press her against the wall.
Luo Ke looked into her eyes, her lips slightly parted. Lin Sifei’s throat moved, and she pressed her body forward.
Two blurry figures were reflected on the frosted glass. The warm yellow light made the room feel very cozy.
“I like you,” Lin Sifei said, releasing her lips to look at Luo Ke.
Luo Ke wrapped her arms around her neck and bit her lip.
