After Transmigrating into the Villain’s Cat, I Dominated the Entertainment Circle – Chapter 43

We Only Have Each Other

I’ll always be with you.

After dinner and a few more pleasantries, Luo Ke stood up to leave.

“Leaving so soon? Why don’t you stay the night?”

Luo Ke smiled and declined. “I have to get back. I have things to do tomorrow.”

Speaking of which, she looked at Zhao Min. “Postpone my morning schedule for me. I have something else to take care of.”

Zhao Min’s face fell. “President Luo, you’re not coming to the office again? We’re going to be nagged to death.”

“There’s a bonus in it for you. You got this.”

Zhao Min waved her hands in surrender as her parents pushed her out the door to see Luo Ke downstairs.

Away from her parents, Zhao Min relaxed a little. “President Luo, how are things between you and Miss Lin now?”

“Very stable,” Luo Ke said, adjusting her grip on the cat, lifting it a bit higher.

“I’m really curious how you two met. Special Assistant Lin and I have been with you for so long, and you used to be such a workaholic. Where did you find the time to date?” She wrinkled her nose, not quite saying outright that she wanted to take notes and find a boyfriend herself.

Luo Ke smiled in response. “Haven’t I told you before? She’s a miracle.”

Lin Sifei’s cat ears turned red again, and she covered her eyes with her paws. Ah! I could just die of embarrassment!

After seeing her to her car, Luo Ke gave Zhao Min a nod and drove away.

The moment they got home, Lin Sifei eagerly transformed back into a human and tackled Luo Ke onto the sofa. She pinned Luo Ke’s wrists down. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

Luo Ke pressed her lips together. “What are you talking about?”

“Why won’t you admit it?” Lin Sifei chuckled, pecking her on the lips. “You were so bold during your confession. Getting shy now, are we?”

Luo Ke laughed too, tilting her head up to kiss her back. “I seem to recall someone else whose ears turned red from embarrassment back then.”

A blush crept back onto Lin Sifei’s cheeks. Luo Ke’s eyes narrowed as she leaned close to her ear. “Hello there, my Miss Miracle.”

Lin Sifei’s face instantly went crimson. In a flash, a pair of cat ears popped out from the top of her head.

Luo Ke gazed at her flushed cat ears, her wrist shifting slightly to interlace their fingers. “Miss Miracle, aren’t you going to get up?”

Lin Sifei’s tail swished back and forth. Her cat-like pupils narrowed, and she pounced on Luo Ke, sinking her teeth into her neck.

Luo Ke’s arms tightened around her back, her eyes narrowing in response.

By the next day, Lin Sifei’s ears and tail had vanished again.

Lin Sifei opened her mouth; her sharp fangs were gone too. It seemed yesterday’s episode wasn’t her going into heat after all. She patted her chest, breathing a sigh of relief.

Luo Ke walked into the bathroom and hugged her from behind. “What’s wrong with you?”

Lin Sifei turned her head to look at her, pouting. “I feel like this cat transformation is a liability. If it happens in front of a camera someday, won’t that be dangerous?”

“Then don’t act.” Luo Ke didn’t want her out there anyway; the paparazzi and everything else were too risky.

Lin Sifei turned around fully to face her. “You’ll have to protect me from now on.”

“I will.” Luo Ke pressed a kiss to her forehead.

On that note, Lin Sifei wanted to ask about the visit to Zhao Min’s home. They had been too busy playing around last night and had completely forgotten about it.

“What did you think of Zhao Min’s family?”

“They’re very nice.” Luo Ke picked up her cosmetics and started to apply her makeup. “They have a wonderful life. A very happy family.”

“What about you, back then?” Lin Sifei asked carefully, afraid of touching a raw nerve by bringing up parents.

Luo Ke, however, didn’t seem to mind. She answered with a smile, “It was pretty much the same when I lived with my parents. I remember them cooking together, and my dad liked to sneak bites of food too.”

Lin Sifei smiled as she listened. Luo Ke glanced at her. “What? After hearing my confession yesterday, you’re that eager to spend the rest of your life with me? Getting to know your future in-laws already?”

Lin Sifei wrinkled her nose at her and began applying her own toner and lotion. “And how do they compare to your aunt and the others?”

The smile on Luo Ke’s face stiffened slightly. “My grandmother, my aunt… they’re not my parents, after all. Sometimes, you just can’t have that same closeness, that lack of barriers.”

Lin Sifei raised an eyebrow. So, she knew her family wasn’t truly close.

“But if they really cared about you, they would try their best to make you feel included.”

Luo Ke’s hand paused. “There are limits to how much they can care. If I keep asking for too much, it will only make all of us miserable.”

After finishing her makeup, Luo Ke stood up to leave the room.

Lin Sifei put down her lipstick and watched her retreating back, her lips forming a pout. “You’re not being considerate of them. You’re just afraid to ask. Because you know they won’t give you what you want, so you tell yourself it was never meant to be.”

Luo Ke took a deep breath and turned back to face her. “I don’t know why you’ve always had a problem with them. We barely ever interact. If you don’t like them, you don’t have to come with me on the rare occasions I go back.”

“Everything I do is for you.”

“But I don’t understand.” Luo Ke walked over and cupped her face. “You have your secrets, and I don’t ask about them. But this… I just don’t get it.”

Lin Sifei lowered her head. “I don’t know how to explain it.”

“What’s so hard to explain?”

Lin Sifei sniffled and looked up at her. “I’m afraid that if I tell you, you’ll think I’m a bad person and won’t want to be with me anymore. I know I haven’t been with you as long as they have, but my feelings are real.”

Luo Ke’s expression grew complicated. Thinking she wasn’t believed, Lin Sifei grabbed her hand and pressed it against her own chest. “If you don’t believe me, listen for yourself. Does my heartbeat sound like it’s lying?”

“I’m not a lie detector.”

Lin Sifei stared at her, shocked and a little hurt.

Luo Ke burst out laughing and ruffled her hair. “Do you know what you look like right now?”

“What?” Lin Sifei shot her a sideways glance.

“Like a young wife struggling with her in-laws.” Luo Ke let out another laugh, her shoulders shaking.

Lin Sifei was both embarrassed and annoyed. She gave her a light punch. “You’re awful! I was seriously worried about you.”

“Alright, alright, I’ll stop laughing. Can you tell me what’s going on?”

Lin Sifei looked at her and took a deep breath. “I’ve told you a few times about your Second Uncle. I’m targeting him. He’s up to no good. It’s not that he doesn’t want to take over the company, it’s that he’s not capable of it. Before you were old enough, the company was losing money and was on the verge of bankruptcy. They had no choice but to hand it back to you, but their real intention was to dump all the debt on you.”

“They?”

Lin Sifei bit her lip. “I know you might not believe me, but your grandmother, your aunt… not a single one of them genuinely cares about you. They just want to get money from you.”

Luo Ke looked at her, pressing a hand to her temple. “It’s true that I give them a large sum of money every year for their own businesses and investments, and they often lose it. But those are minor issues. I told you before, they did raise me, so I owe them a debt of gratitude. And it’s not like I’m short on money…”

“So you use money to buy this so-called ‘family affection’ just to numb yourself?”

Luo Ke met her eyes, then quickly looked away, releasing her hand and walking toward the bed. “You’re right. I am numbing myself. But what does it matter? I have money, I’m not short on it. If they want it, I give it to them. I pay them to put on a show for me. What’s wrong with that?”

She turned back to look at Lin Sifei. “You act in films, and you get paid. I’m no different from an investor, except my production has no script and no ending.”

Luo Ke closed her eyes, pressing her hand to her forehead. She felt a throbbing at her temple, as if reminding her just how absurd her actions were.

She couldn’t face Lin Sifei’s gaze. She was afraid of disappointing her. She wasn’t that strong, she wasn’t that… perfect.

She wasn’t worthy of love.

As Luo Ke squeezed her eyes shut, a pair of arms suddenly wrapped around her.

Lin Sifei began to sob softly, holding her tight. Luo Ke raised a hand to push her away, but Lin Sifei only hugged her tighter.

“Don’t move!” Lin Sifei clung to her, tears streaming down her cheeks and dripping from her chin, soaking the front of her shirt.

“Luo Ke, you’re doing this on purpose. You’re deliberately making my heart ache for you so I’ll be tied to you forever. You’ve got me all figured out, that I’m a softie, haven’t you!” Lin Sifei cried her heart out.

For a moment, Luo Ke didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Her cat was so ridiculous. She was sobbing tragically, her words full of pity for Luo Ke, yet she still had to act like Wang Po selling melons, praising her own wares1.

Lin Sifei wiped her tears with one hand, then hugged her tightly again. “Luo Ke, listen to me. You don’t need their fake affection. You have me. I’m just a little cat demon with no power or influence, and my ID card was even a favor from someone else. I only have you, too. We only have each other. Family, romance, friendship—I can give it all to you. You don’t need those insincere people. They don’t deserve you. You’re so wonderful. Give all your wonderfulness to me.”

A pang of emotion hit Luo Ke’s heart. Her fingers twitched, and she slowly raised her arms to hug Lin Sifei back. A dampness welled in her eyes. “Then if I lost you, I’d truly have nothing left.”

“I think we’re a great match.” Lin Sifei pulled back and wiped away her own tears. “Look at me. I’m good-looking, I have a lively and cheerful personality, and I’m kind. And I’m game for whatever play you’re into. What more could you want?”

“I know you’re wonderful. I’m just afraid…”

Lin Sifei grabbed her hand. “Afraid of what? You’re just too timid, even though you’re a force to be reckoned with in the business world. You are an exceptional person. Don’t believe any of the garbage the Luo family says to put you down. If you went out on the street, grabbed a random person, and told them you thought you were worthless, I guarantee you’d get punched.”

Luo Ke let out a laugh. “You have a very… unique way of comforting people.”

“That’s because I don’t think you need any of that sappy, mushy reassurance.”

Luo Ke looked into her shining eyes, wrapped her arms around her, and pressed her lips to hers.

An hour later, the two of them were composed and ready to leave.

“Xiaoxiao, what do you think I should do now?”

Lin Sifei had given up on correcting her about the nickname. “If you ask me, the best thing to do is kick them to the curb. But I know you probably couldn’t handle that emotionally. So, you can take it slow. The first step is to make your position clear: you will no longer be controlled by them.”

Luo Ke glanced at her, and Lin Sifei immediately made a fist to cheer her on.

“Okay.” Luo Ke took a deep breath. “It’s time for me to face all of this.”

“After you attend the opening ceremony for your project, I’ll arrange a meeting with them for this afternoon. It’s time to sort things out.”

Hearing this, Lin Sifei squeezed her right hand. “I’ll be by your side.”

“Okay.”

Lin Sifei looked at her and broke into a smile. She took a deep breath and gazed out the window, where withered yellow leaves were falling from the branches.

Autumn had arrived. Once winter passed, spring would come, and the trees would sprout tender green buds, reborn.
