After Transmigrating into the Villain’s Cat, I Dominated the Entertainment Circle – Chapter 37

A Surprise for You

This accursed dream

“We’re here.” The driver parked the car steadily as a notification sound from an app on his phone reminded him not to forget his belongings.

Lin Sifei opened the door, took out her sunglasses, put them on, and walked in with her head held high.

Many people were there for the casting call. Some, without any fame to their name, sat on stools in the hallway.

Lin Sifei took off her sunglasses, revealing her delicate features. Seeing the people around her captivated by her beauty, the corners of her lips curved into a slight smile as she lifted her foot and walked straight toward the room at the end of the hall. A long life under the camera lens had made her habitually maintain her best posture in front of people. Each step was the same distance apart, her gaze fixed forward, shoulders and chest open, just like a runway model.

“Next, Chen Qiyuan.”

Lin Sifei pressed down on the doorknob, but a fair-skinned hand pressed down on hers.

Startled, Lin Sifei looked up at the owner of the hand. The girl before her had her hair in a high ponytail, with sharp eyes and brows, and a somewhat angular face.

“Miss, my name is Chen Qiyuan.”

Lin Sifei nodded mechanically. “My name is Lin Sifei, hello.”

She smiled and continued to press the doorknob, wanting to go in. Chen Qiyuan’s hand suddenly tightened, squeezing the back of Lin Sifei’s hand until a red mark appeared.

“Ah!” Lin Sifei let out a short cry of pain, snatching her hand back and glaring at her. “What are you doing!”

Chen Qiyuan sneered. “And you think you’re in the right for cutting in line? Is your name Chen Qiyuan? Get to the side.”

Lin Sifei’s eyes widened in shock. Just as she was about to retort, she saw the girl slowly raise her right hand and sling a small folding stool1 over her shoulder.

“Excuse me.”

Lin Sifei pulled her hand back, watching as the girl walked in with an air of dominance.

“Do I look like I’m here to audition? Not a shred of observational skill. How am I supposed to perform conveniently in heels this high!”

She pouted and followed her inside.

“Hello, teachers2. My name is Chen Qiyuan.”

Lin Sifei walked in and, seeing that the audition had already begun, hurriedly bent over and ran to a corner seat to sit down. Chen Qiyuan didn’t even glance at her and had already started her performance.

She took a deep breath, pulled the folding stool open, and placed it on the floor. Her long, straight legs were wrapped in jeans, one bent and the other casually extended. Her head swayed from side to side as she pinched the air with her fingers, mimicking the action of cracking sunflower seeds.

Lin Sifei’s back gradually straightened, a hint of interest in her eyes.

The script depicted the family of a blind person. The main plot revolved around the difficulties of a blind person surviving in society, but there was a very important subplot about the protagonist’s conflict with her family, especially with her younger sister. Because of her disability, her parents gave her more love and attention, neglecting the younger sister, which caused the sister to become introverted and hold some resentment toward the protagonist.

Chen Qiyuan was now performing as the third female lead, the younger sister’s best friend, who didn’t have many scenes in the movie. When she first read the script, Lin Sifei felt that the third female lead represented another side of the sister that she didn’t dare to show—wild and reckless.

“Hey! Xingxing3, did you finish your homework? Let me copy it.” A big smile appeared on Chen Qiyuan’s face, revealing a small, sharp tooth.

There was no one in front of her, yet she acted as if she were conversing with someone. She paused for a moment before continuing, “It’s fine, we won’t be late. Perfect, my family fried some chicken legs, they’re delicious. Come on.”

“None for your sister. Don’t mention her around me, it’s annoying just seeing her.” Chen Qiyuan scratched her forehead and rolled her eyes.

Time was up. Chen Qiyuan turned back around and bowed to the director and screenwriter. “That concludes my performance.”

Lin Sifei rested her chin on her hand, watching how the girl had lost all of her earlier arrogance, her fingers now slightly and nervously clenched.

Such a by-the-book performance routine. It seems she’s professionally trained4, with a little less natural flair, but you can tell she works very hard.

As Lin Sifei was mentally scoring her, the director sitting in the center looked at her. “Hey you, what do you think?”

Lin Sifei looked at Director Chen, knowing that he was somewhat interested, otherwise he wouldn’t have asked. He also wanted to test her.

“I think…” Lin Sifei stood up with a smile, taking the opportunity to move from the side to an empty seat in the middle. “I think the performance was pretty good, but it wasn’t outstanding enough. It lacks a memorable point.”

Chen Qiyuan grew even more nervous, her eyes fixed firmly on her.

“What is your understanding of the character Song Qi?5

Song Qi was the name of the third female lead. Chen Qiyuan thought for a moment before answering, “I think she’s a very loyal girl, a bit cool. She’s very sensitive and can sense Xiao Xing’s dissatisfaction with her sister, and she gives her a unique kind of love. She doesn’t actually hate the sister, but does it to give Xiao Xing a sense of security.”

Lin Sifei nodded along. “But in your performance just now, none of that was shown.”

Chen Qiyuan was taken aback for a moment, then recalled her performance. “I thought those things might need to be expressed through the movie’s editing.”

“But if you didn’t act out these details, how can the editor cut them?”

Chen Qiyuan bit her lower lip, remaining silent.

“Moreover, your performance was a bit deliberate, with too much force.” Lin Sifei looked at the notes she had just jotted down on paper; that was pretty much it.

Director Chen turned his head to look at her with a smile. “Well said, but I think just speaking without practicing won’t do. This kid is a newcomer, not even graduated yet. Why don’t you do a scene with her, teach her a thing or two.”

Lin Sifei’s eyes shifted slightly as she glanced at him. Seeing his gleeful smile, she smiled back.

Just speaking without practicing is a false posture6. He wanted to make a fool out of her, the one who got in through connections.

“Alright.” Lin Sifei stood up with a smile and walked over to Chen Qiyuan. “There’s only one scene where Xiao Yue7 and Song Qi meet. It’s when Xiao Xing goes out with Song Qi for a late-night motorcycle joyride and doesn’t come home, and the family is anxiously looking for her. Have you read that part?”

Chen Qiyuan nodded. “I’ve read it.”

Lin Sifei raised an eyebrow. It seemed she was quite serious after all.

She smiled at Chen Qiyuan. Chen Qiyuan, not knowing how to react, smiled back.

Lin Sifei suddenly reached out and grabbed her. “Is Xingxing with you?”

Seeing her expression, Chen Qiyuan realized she had already started. She quickly put on a scornful look and glanced behind her, where the motorcycle and Xingxing were supposed to be.

“Nope, haven’t seen her.”

Xiao Yue took a deep breath. “Okay, sorry to bother you. If Xingxing contacts you, please be sure to let me know.”

“Why should I tell you?” Chen Qiyuan gave her a push. “Isn’t it enough that you annoy Xingxing? If I were her, I would’ve run away long ago. Just because you’re blind, the whole world has to revolve around you? You’re made up like a ghost, just stay home obediently. Don’t get bumped or scraped and then blame it on Xingxing again.”

Xiao Yue touched her face. “Anyway, if Xingxing contacts you, just let me know.” She smiled and slowly turned to leave, steadying herself against the wall.

“It would be so much better if you didn’t exist,” Chen Qiyuan said with red-rimmed eyes, staring at her retreating back.

Xiao Yue’s throat moved. “Thank you.”

Lin Sifei turned back around and looked at Chen Qiyuan. “Not bad, much better than before. It seems you’re better at performances with emotional outbursts.”

Chen Qiyuan touched her ponytail and smiled at her.

Lin Sifei then looked at Director Chen. “How about it, Director Chen? I think she can be confirmed for the role.”

Startled by her call, Director Chen seemed to snap back to reality. He scratched his hair. “There are still many people. Let’s put her on the shortlist for now. Go home and wait for news.”

Chen Qiyuan bowed earnestly and walked out the door.

Lin Sifei also returned to her seat, holding her paper and waiting for the next person.

The subsequent performances had no outstanding newcomers. The ones who were decent had been acting for a few years but had little fame.

“Let’s take a break, take a break.” Director Chen waved his hand and leaned back in his chair. “Looking back, the one in the scene earlier acted quite well. But no one has played Xiao Xing well. Xiao Xing and Song Qi have a lot of scenes together. If she can’t hold her own, then this Song Qi will have to be replaced too.”

Lin Sifei was a bit unhappy to hear that. She thought that Chen Qiyuan had performed very well. She was a motivated newcomer who might just make a name for herself.

“There are plenty of good actors in the industry. Can’t we even pick a daughter? With your reputation, Director Chen, who would be foolish enough not to come?” Lin Sifei frowned.

Director Chen glanced at her, feeling that her praise wasn’t sincere but rather full of yin-yang strangeness.8

“Who with any fame would be willing to come? The female lead is a complete novice with no experience or fame. People look at who they’re supporting these days.”

After he spoke, he glanced at Lin Sifei and saw her puffing her cheeks, tilting her head, and glaring at him. He suddenly had a jolt of realization, remembering her performance just now. It seemed to be really good, completely capturing the right feeling.

The more he thought about it, the better it seemed, but there was a small flaw. “Xiao Yue is blind and rarely goes out. You should have shown a kind of stumbling yet strong feeling.”

Lin Sifei pouted. “Xiao Yue is a girl who was pampered growing up. She has her own pride, so she has her mother or sister put on her makeup every day. She even refuses to use a white cane. A person like that wouldn’t walk with a stumble. Besides, this road is near her home. She walked it once when she came, also holding onto the wall. She knows the road conditions very well.”

Director Chen crossed his arms and thought about it. That made some sense.

Lin Sifei watched his expression and smiled slightly. “Director Chen should probably look down on me a little less now, right?”

Director Chen glanced at her. “What are you talking about? When have I ever looked down on you?”

Like I’d believe that, Lin Sifei thought, turning her head back and sitting up straight to wait for the next audition.

The following actors were likewise no match for Chen Qiyuan. Director Chen was already considering other options.

Lin Sifei checked the time. Nine hours had already passed. It was about time for her to go back, otherwise, she’d be in trouble later if she used up all twelve hours.

“Director Chen, let’s call it a day. I’m heading back first.”

“Wait.” Director Chen stood up. “The screenwriter has some disputes about a few parts of the first version of the script. You picked this script, so I’d like to hear your suggestions. It’s about time for dinner, let’s talk over a meal.”

Lin Sifei picked up her bag and looked him up and down. “Director Chen, you haven’t forgotten that I got in through the back door, have you?”

As soon as she said that, everyone around looked over. Although they all knew it, it was the first time they had met someone who would say it out loud.

“The back door I used was President Luo. I don’t think I need to find anyone else.”

Director Chen slapped his forehead and looked at her helplessly. “I mean it literally. Where did your mind go? I still have President Luo’s one hundred million investment on the line here. Don’t worry, no one would dare touch you.”

“Oh~” Lin Sifei nodded vigorously, then her expression changed again. “I don’t work overtime either.”

“Since when do actors not work overtime? Your night scenes have to be shot at night, and we have to rush the schedule. How will you film?”

“I think my scenes can be done in one take, no problem. Anyway, I don’t work overtime.” Lin Sifei thought for a moment. “Working hard is important, but health is more important. When you’re making the schedule, please group my scenes together. Within twelve hours, I can shoot without even eating. Anything else is off the table.”

Lin Sifei happily waved at him and ran off quickly. Director Chen watched her retreating back, hating the iron for not becoming steel9. “Such great talent, but so lazy, really…”

As soon as she got outside, Lin Sifei called for a car and then sent a message to Luo Ke.

[How are things going?]

Lin Sifei’s phone vibrated. Luo Ke was calling her directly.

Lin Sifei answered immediately. “Hello.”

“Hello.” Luo Ke on the other end of the line replied with the same word.

Lin Sifei burst out laughing. “Why are you copying me? When are you coming back?”

“Tonight.”

“Tonight?!” Lin Sifei exclaimed. “Why are you coming back tonight?”

Luo Ke was exasperated. “You were the one rushing me. I just finished my business and I’m taking a flight back soon. What? You don’t want me back now?”

“That’s not it.” Lin Sifei sighed. “I just wanted to give you a little surprise. You’re coming back too soon, I don’t have time to prepare.”

“No need for surprises.” The sound of a suitcase closing came from Luo Ke’s end. “I want to go back too.”

Lin Sifei’s cheeks flushed slightly. “Is that so~ Then I’ll wait for you to come back.”

She happily hung up the phone and got into the car.

“Could you please drive a little faster, thank you.”

Lin Sifei cupped her face. She didn’t expect Luo Ke to come back so early. She had used up almost all of her human transformation time today. Did she have to meet her in her cat form?

She wasn’t too happy about that. Luo Ke’s kindness towards her was already influenced by her affection for the cat; it wasn’t because she actually liked her.

The plane would take a long time to arrive. She would turn into a cat as soon as she got home to save up as much time as possible.

Although the driver was already trying to speed up, they unfortunately ran into a traffic jam.

Lin Sifei looked anxiously at the line of cars ahead and sighed heavily. She looked out the car window and suddenly froze. Outside was a small storefront with an orange sign. The name was also very nice—”Orange World.”

Lin Sifei looked at the bright yellow oranges on it and tapped the driver’s arm. “Um, I’m going to get out and buy something. I’ll be right back.”

“Hey, no!” The driver didn’t open the door. “What if you just leave? Then you’ll complain that I didn’t drop you off.”

Lin Sifei took cash out of her bag and stuffed it into his hand. “This is the fare. I’ll be back after I buy my things, and I’ll pay you again on the platform when we arrive, okay?”

The driver looked at the hundred-yuan bill in his hand and nodded. No matter how you calculated it, he was the one profiting. The passenger couldn’t possibly skip out on the fare now.

Lin Sifei quickly ran out of the car and into the shop. The driver saw the shop she went into and whistled.

Lin Sifei returned quickly, carrying two large bags of things.

As soon as she got into the car, she saw the driver looking at her with an indescribable expression. She raised her hand to signal the driver not to speak. “Personal driver. If your words make me uncomfortable, I will file a complaint immediately.”

The driver scoffed and turned his head back.

After waiting a little longer, the line of cars finally started to move. They quickly left the congested area and sped all the way to the entrance of the villa complex.

Lin Sifei got out of the car with her bags and happily entered the community.

As soon as she entered the house, Lin Sifei eagerly turned into a cat. She looked at the time, calculating how much time she could make up. It should barely be enough.

She looked at the bags she had bought and covered her mouth, giggling.

At eleven o’clock at night, the sound of the door finally came. Lin Sifei jumped up and scurried upstairs.

Luo Ke entered with her suitcase. “Assistant Lin, you should go home and rest early too. You can come to the company an hour later tomorrow. Thank you for your hard work.”

She closed the door and looked back, not seeing anyone. “Xiaoxiao? Feifei?”

Lin Sifei stood at the top of the second-floor stairs, wrapped in a bathrobe. Hearing her call for Xiaoxiao first, she pouted in dissatisfaction. Sure enough, she’s only trying to date me so she can pet the cat. She doesn’t actually like me.

She flicked her hair and walked downstairs barefoot.

“You’re back. Have you eaten?”

“I’ve eaten.” Luo Ke looked at the bathrobe she was wearing and raised her eyebrows in surprise. “Are you getting ready for bed? Did I wake you?”

Lin Sifei yawned and leaned against her. “Yeah.”

Luo Ke smiled and caught her. Lin Sifei took the opportunity to wrap her arms around her neck. Their lips were very close. If Lin Sifei leaned forward just a little, they would kiss, but she deliberately didn’t move. She was waiting.

Luo Ke looked into her dark, glossy eyes, closed her own, and leaned in for a kiss.

As their lips and teeth touched, Lin Sifei let out a small laugh and tightened her arms around her neck.

Luo Ke tugged at her bathrobe, her brow twitching. “Is this…”

Lin Sifei hooked her collar, her lips blowing a breath of air by her ear. “I bought it specially as a surprise for you. Don’t you like it?”

“I like it.” Luo Ke bent down and bit her collarbone.

Lin Sifei fell back onto the sofa, unable to stop laughing. “Why are you biting me? Are you a puppy?”

“In a fight between a cat and a dog, who do you think would win?”

Lin Sifei narrowed her eyes. “That’s hard to say.”

The two of them moved from the living room to the bedroom. Lin Sifei collapsed on the bed, exhausted. “I can’t, I need to rest, I need to sleep!”

Luo Ke lay beside her, her hand slowly tidying her long, messy hair.
“Your stamina is so poor. Will you be able to handle it when you start filming? It must be quite tiring.”

To Lin Sifei’s ears, that was just blatant showing off. She rolled her eyes. “I just haven’t been working out. Once I start filming, I’ll have to exercise every day. You’ll understand then, hmph.”

Luo Ke reached out and touched her stomach, giving it a squeeze. “You’re already so thin. Won’t you become a skeleton if you work out more?”

Hearing her praise for being thin, Lin Sifei hummed, pleased. “Don’t worry, I’m not doing it to lose weight, but to make my muscles firmer. It looks better that way.”

Luo Ke propped up her chin. “Then I’ll work out with you.”

“Okay.” Lin Sifei couldn’t help but kiss her on her crimson lips.

Luo Ke turned the tables, pressing down on her again.

Lin Sifei’s eyes glanced at the clock not far away and widened abruptly.

Luo Ke closed her eyes and leaned in to kiss her. With a “thump,” her mouth touched something furry. She opened her eyes to see the cat version of Lin Sifei lying on her back.

She immediately got up and sat up.

Lin Sifei wiggled her body and lay back down on her stomach. “Meow~”

Luo Ke helplessly ran her fingers through her hair. “Why did you turn into a cat again?”

“Meow~” Lin Sifei patted the bed, asking for her phone.

Luo Ke, wearing a silk robe, went downstairs to get her phone.

Lin Sifei took the phone and typed furiously. “I ran out of time. I was out all day today, I almost hit the 12-hour mark just now, and I have to go out again tomorrow.”

Luo Ke pressed down on her and kneaded her gently. “Forget it, let’s sleep.”

Lin Sifei scooted her bottom over to her pillow. Luo Ke lay down and reached out to pet her again. “Where are you going tomorrow? I’ll go with you.”

Lin Sifei typed, [To meet with Director Chen to see some actors, to see if anyone is willing to be my second female lead.]

Luo Ke’s brow furrowed slightly. “Let Luo Corporation’s entertainment company arrange it.”

[You wouldn’t be satisfied with who they arrange.]

“As long as your drama becomes a hit, there won’t be any dissatisfaction. What people lack now are works that can establish their careers.”

Lin Sifei thought about it and agreed, lying down peacefully.

In the dark, a cat’s vision is better than a human’s. She could see Luo Ke’s slightly furrowed brow. She reached out a paw and pressed it on her forehead, rubbing gently.

Luo Ke chuckled and raised her hand to cover her paw. “It’s really inconvenient to talk to you like this. I hope I can see you in my dreams.”

Now that she mentioned it, Lin Sifei also remembered that they shared a common dream. So she also closed her eyes, hoping to see Luo Ke in her dream.

She gradually drifted into dreamland, and a familiar light appeared before her. She was still squatting on the bedside table. She blinked a couple of times, and the things in front of her became clear.

Luo Ke was floating in mid-air, slowly landing on the ground and opening her eyes.

“Luo Ke, Luo Ke!” she called out happily.

Luo Ke opened her eyes and picked her up.

Lin Sifei followed her and lay down on the bed. “What’s the deal with this dreamscape? Why can we talk in here, and it’s a shared dream?”

Luo Ke was stunned. “Isn’t this your magic?”

Lin Sifei’s cat mouth hung open, frozen in place. She licked her lips, unable to lie. “No, I don’t know what’s going on either.”

Luo Ke frowned. “If that’s the case, we need to be careful. Could it be another powerful demon? Do you demons eat humans or other demons?”

What demons? Lin Sifei smacked her lips and reassured her, “Don’t worry, there are rules among demons too. We all coexist peacefully and don’t bother each other.”

“Is that so? That’s good.” Luo Ke tapped her on the nose. “It would be great if you could turn into a human in the dream someday.”

As soon as the words fell, a white mist surged, and the Lin Sifei in her arms transformed into a human. Her long black hair cascaded down her back, and she wore a long, white, ankle-length dress.

“It seems this dream follows my thoughts.” Luo Ke squinted and smiled. “In that case, I wish your clothes would change into what you were wearing when I came home today… mmmph…”

Lin Sifei slapped a hand over her mouth. “That was a surprise! Once a surprise is over, you can’t mention it again!”

Luo Ke pulled her hand away. “What? Are you shy?”

Lin Sifei’s cheeks flushed slightly as she glared at her. “If you’re going to be like this, there won’t be any more surprises like that in the future!”

“So there will be more in the future.” Luo Ke leaned against her back. “Our Feifei is so generous.”

Lin Sifei huffed and turned her head away.

Luo Ke sighed. “I’m still looking forward to it. I want to see the next surprise soon.”

As soon as she finished speaking, a box fell onto the bed with a clatter.

Lin Sifei stared at the familiar orange box, her eyes wide. She had bought two boxes at the time. She had worn the contents of the small box, but the large box was hidden away. This accursed dream!
