You Owe Me Money
Can’t Tell What’s Real and What’s Fake
At nine in the morning, Luo Ke opened her eyes. She glanced at the time and frowned slightly.
She rubbed her temples and sat up. Yesterday, she was worried Lin Sifei wouldn’t sleep, so she stayed up all night watching her, only getting up now.
She pressed a hand to her neck and rolled it, then turned her head to pull back Lin Sifei’s blanket. If she sleeps too much, she’ll get puffy, and then she’ll cry again.
The moment the blanket was pulled back, it was completely empty inside. There was no one there at all.
“Lin Sifei? Feifei?” Luo Ke rolled out of bed, pulled open the door, and walked out. “Could she have gone downstairs?”
The bedroom door closed behind her. On the bed, the blanket stirred, and a cat’s head poked out from under it.
Lin Sifei dazedly lifted a paw, rubbed her eyes, and meowed, “Meow?” What time is it?
The meow came out of her mouth, and Lin Sifei the cat was completely dumbfounded. She shot to her feet. Without even needing a mirror, she already knew exactly what she looked like right now.
Heaven wants me dead!1 I have a movie to film!
She leaped up from the bed, remembering that she had turned human after kissing Luo Ke. She lifted her front paws, placed them on the edge of the bed, and peered over, but she didn’t see Luo Ke.
“Meow~” Where did she run off to?
She trotted to the door and jumped up to press the handle. She ran out the door and had just reached the top of the stairs when she ran head-on into Luo Ke.
One person, one cat, big eyes staring at small eyes.2
Luo Ke covered her mouth and let out a snort of laughter.
“Meow!” What are you laughing at!
If she couldn’t film, the one hundred million Luo Ke promised Director Chen would really have been spent for nothing! She furiously looked everywhere for her phone. With one hundred million going down the drain3, let’s see if you can still laugh.
However, she had forgotten to bring her phone out, so she could only sit on the floor and glare at Luo Ke.
Seeing her angry look, Luo Ke finally managed to stifle her laughter and reached out to pick her up. “You really are a little stingy bun4.”
You’re the little stingy bun! Lin Sifei lifted her paws and patted her on the face, pat, pat, pat.
Luo Ke immediately surrendered. “I was wrong. Don’t be angry. Getting angry gives you wrinkles.”
Sure enough, Lin Sifei immediately retracted her paws, cupped her own face, and rubbed it.
Luo Ke carried her to the dining room, warmed up some goat’s milk and chicken breast for her, and ate breakfast with her.
After eating, Lin Sifei’s mood improved a bit. She sat on the sofa and, with a calm heart and harmonious qi5, patted Luo Ke’s hand, then patted her own mouth.
“Still not full? I’ll go get you some small dried fish.”
Lin Sifei smacked her leg. Luo Ke laughed and sat back down. “You don’t want to eat, huh? Then what do you want to do?”
Lin Sifei patted her own mouth again, then lifted a paw and pointed at Luo Ke’s face.
Luo Ke propped up her chin. “I don’t understand.”
Lin Sifei was choked with anger6, her claws extending and retracting as she tried hard to restrain herself.
Luo Ke smiled, took out a tablet, and handed it to her. “You can type and tell me.”
Lin Sifei pulled it in front of her and carefully pressed the letters with her paws. Suddenly, she paused. She hadn’t thought much of it before, but now, writing out a request for a kiss felt so embarrassing.
She shyly raised her eyes, glancing at Luo Ke’s expression. Seeing her eyebrows fly and eyes smile7, she had an epiphany.
Luo Ke is teasing me.
She stood up, aimed both paws at her, and with a sffft, shot out her sharp claws, a fierce light showing in her eyes.8
Luo Ke raised both hands. “I surrender.”
She picked up Lin Sifei, held her up in front of her face, and stared into her eyes, saying seriously, “Are you sure you want me to kiss you?”
Lin Sifei meowed and lifted a paw. Hurry up.
Luo Ke turned her head and took a deep breath. “Kissing you with a cat face… I’m under a lot of psychological pressure too.”
Lin Sifei bared her teeth. When you were huffing the cat9 before, I didn’t see you under any pressure! She was about to show her claws again, but just as she lifted her paw, Luo Ke’s red lips were already pressed against her mouth.
Lin Sifei froze for a moment, her ears turning red involuntarily. The claws that had been ready to scratch were now resting against Luo Ke’s cheek.
Luo Ke closed her eyes and silently counted to three in her mind. The feeling in her hands didn’t change. When she opened her eyes, she saw that Lin Sifei was still a cat.
Lin Sifei was dumbfounded too. Why didn’t it work this time? Could there be some condition they hadn’t met?
“Meow!” Let’s go to the restaurant, quick!
Lin Sifei ran to the door, anxiously turning in circles.
Seeing that Luo Ke wasn’t moving, she quickly ran back, jumped onto her shoulder, reached for her phone, and typed away.
【Let’s go back to that restaurant and try again.】
She shoved the phone at Luo Ke and jumped back to the door.
Luo Ke stood by the sofa, holding the phone, and watched her with her arms crossed. “If there are conditions, then we might as well try tonight, to avoid any time restrictions.”
Lin Sifei felt that she had a point and walked back, hanging her head in despair.10
She jumped onto the sofa, curled herself into a ball, and didn’t move, just kept her head buried in her fur.
Luo Ke stopped teasing her. She knelt on one knee beside her and reached out to stroke her fur. Lin Sifei pushed her hand away with a paw and continued to keep her head buried.
Luo Ke persistently continued to pet her, and she continued to push her away.
After several rounds of this, Lin Sifei tired out first and let her pet her.
Luo Ke stroked her fur, feeling the muscles under her palm gradually relax. She began to speak, “There’s no need to rush. Since you were able to change back once, there can be a second and a third time. We just need to find the reason for changing into a human and a cat.”
Lin Sifei stirred, finally lifting her head to glance at her and giving a nod.
Only then did Luo Ke scoop her into her arms. “Come on, accompany me to the company.”
She let Lin Sifei lie on her shoulder, thought for a moment, then went upstairs again to pack a full set of clothes for her. Just in case. What happened last night was too dangerous.
As soon as they arrived at the company, Zhao Min came up to greet them. “President Luo, President Yuan Mo is currently waiting for you in the meeting room.”
“Waiting for me? What is he here for?” Luo Ke’s brow furrowed slightly as she handed her bag to Zhao Min.
Zhao Min took the bag and said with some confusion, “He seemed to mention something about a movie investment, but since when have you and President Yuan paid so much attention to the development of the entertainment company?”
Hearing this, Luo Ke guessed it immediately. This man was probably here to scout for information on behalf of Yan Yafei.
She took a slight breath, told Zhao Min to go back to work, and walked toward the office holding the cat.
“Meow meow meow!” Lin Sifei patted the phone.
【This Yuan Mo is in the same gang as Yan Yafei. You have to be careful of him.】
“Don’t worry, I’ll be on my guard. It’s just that his father and my parents have a bit of a friendly relationship. If he’s just been temporarily deceived, I don’t mind giving him a heads-up.”
Although she said that, Lin Sifei felt he probably wouldn’t wake up so quickly. Based on the current situation, everything was still following the plot of the book, so Yan Yafei’s female protagonist halo most likely hadn’t disappeared. Otherwise, she really couldn’t figure out how someone like Yan Yafei could have Yuan Mo eaten to death.11
Pushing open the door to the meeting room, Yuan Mo stood up with a smile. “President Luo, I hope my sudden visit hasn’t disturbed you.”
“Of course not.” Luo Ke placed Lin Sifei to the side and sat down on the sofa herself. “President Yuan wanted to talk to me about investing in a movie. Is it my friend’s film?”
Yuan Mo nodded. “I’ve said it before, President Luo’s investment vision has never been poor. If President Luo wants to invest in that film, I’ll follow your lead. I can’t go wrong that way.”
“But the Luo family’s entertainment company has been losing money for years, while your family’s is rising with wind and water12, with plenty of resources and connections.”
“That’s all the more reason to cooperate.” Yuan Mo put on the air of someone seriously discussing business. “I can provide better resources, including post-production promotion, theatrical release, and so on.” He smiled, rubbing his fingers together. “Calculated this way, it’s a win-win for us.”
“That does sound reasonable.” Luo Ke nodded in agreement, and Yuan Mo relaxed, leaning back into the sofa.
“But…” Luo Ke suddenly changed her tune. “Who told you I was going to invest in this movie?”
Yuan Mo was taken aback. “Didn’t you say so yourself last night?”
“Last night, only Lin Sifei said she was joining the cast this month. She didn’t say it was my investment, just that I was the one who found the connection. Who told you this idea, or rather—who instilled it in you?”
Luo Ke leaned her body forward slightly. The posture made her more imposing, and the air in the meeting room instantly froze. Only the clock on the wall made a gong, gong, gong sound. It was ten o’clock.
Luo Ke straightened up again, stroking the cat’s back rhythmically. Yuan Mo had been around for a long time; he wasn’t an idiot. He carefully recalled the scene from last night. Neither Lin Sifei nor Luo Ke had said that she was the one investing in the film.
Although he had heard that some presidents would keep little starlets, it was always just investing a bit of money to stuff them into a minor role. He had done the same for Yan Yafei, so when they were in the car and Yan Yafei expressed her envy that Luo Ke was directly investing in a movie for Lin Sifei to film for fun, he didn’t sense any problem at all.
Luo Ke watched his lips press into a thin line and continued, “Remember when I said Yan Yafei abused cats? I can give you the video and let you see for yourself whether it was unintentional feeding or intentional cat-killing. My words end here. This is a reminder I’m giving you out of respect for the friendship between our fathers. Whether you listen or not is up to you.”
Yuan Mo sat on the sofa, his expression looking gloomy and uncertain.
Saying any more might have the opposite effect. Luo Ke stood up at the right moment. “I did indeed invest in Lin Sifei’s movie, but that’s because I know she can film it well. You know I don’t do business that loses money. If she can’t recoup the costs, then that’s money she owes me.”
After saying that, she turned her head and left.
The moment she turned, Lin Sifei pounced and scratched her chin. Owe money??? Jiejie13, this is the first time I’ve heard of investing like this. So if it makes a profit, it’s yours, but if it loses money, it’s my fault? You’re really making a zero-risk investment, huh.
Luo Ke sucked in a sharp breath from the scratch, her pace involuntarily quickening. She pulled the door shut as she exited, then grabbed Lin Sifei’s paws, pulled them away, and clutched her chin.
“Be gentler with your claws, that really hurts.” She looked at her reflection in the shiny wall. Thankfully, it was just a red mark, not a broken scratch.
Lin Sifei was frantically meowing “meow meow meow” beside her, her momentum making it clear she was cursing her out.
Luo Ke pretended not to hear. After a good while, when Lin Sifei’s mouth had gone dry from all the scolding, she faintly added, “Keep scolding and I’ll pull the investment.”
Lin Sifei paused for a second, then realized: what difference did it make if she pulled an investment like that? So she continued to meow meow meow.
Luo Ke couldn’t help but laugh. “I was just saying that. Otherwise, he would definitely be duped by Yan Yafei again.”
Lin Sifei pouted and grabbed the phone to type, “Were you really lying just now? To trick him?”
“What are you worried about? We haven’t signed a contract. If I ask you to pay me back, you can just refuse to acknowledge it.” Luo Ke shamelessly gave her a tip.
Come to think of it, that’s true. She extended a paw and patted Luo Ke’s arm in gratification. Very good, very good. She really knows how to look out for my welfare.
Luo Ke watched her tail perk up happily and shook her head helplessly. Even without a contract, if I wanted to screw her over, aren’t there plenty of opportunities?
She looked at the cat in her arms and came to a new realization about her. As expected of a newly cultivated cat demon, she still hasn’t experienced human cunning. I’ll have to find a chance to teach her a lesson in the future. Otherwise, what if she goes out and gets scammed?
Lin Sifei had no idea what she was thinking. She was still calculating her fifty-million investment, thinking about the actors to hire and how she was going to turn human again.
Each had their own thoughts, sharing a bed but dreaming different dreams.14
