Sleeping Together Isn’t Safe
Shouldn’t You Spoil Me
Returning home, Lin Sifei scampered upstairs, changed into a fresh set of clothes, and came downstairs feeling refreshed.
“Much more comfortable.” She lay on the sofa, and after lying there for a while, she felt that something was strange.
She furrowed her brow in thought for a moment, and a glass of orange juice was stuffed into her hand.
Lin Sifei looked up to see Luo Ke sit down beside her and start working on her laptop. Her eyes widened, and she snapped her fingers.
“I was wondering what felt off.” She scooted closer to Luo Ke, her eyes narrowing. “How come you’re not talking tonight?”
“Am I?”
“Of course you are. Is something bothering you? Tell me, I’ll help you analyze it.”
Luo Ke glanced at her, not wanting to talk about the matter of her becoming a spirit1. “Didn’t you say you wanted to enter the entertainment industry to act this month? Although it’s only the beginning of the month, where are you going to find a production crew that wants you?”
“So that’s what you were worried about.” Lin Sifei pursed her lips and smiled.
Smiling foolishly, she lifted her butt and scooted closer to her. “Um, President Luo—”
“I always feel like nothing good happens when you call me President Luo.” Luo Ke made a move to get up and run.
Lin Sifei threw an arm around her arm, whining coquettishly, “President Luo, don’t be like that. I’m your cat, after all, and to outsiders, I’m your friend. My face is your face. Can you bear to watch me get my face slapped2 by Yan Yafei?”
“I can.” President Luo, whose feelings had been frustrated, was being very cold and heartless, raising her hand to pull her arm away.
“President—Luo—” Lin Sifei dragged out her voice, her entire body hanging off her. “I’m super amazing, I can definitely make your entertainment company earn money, really!”
“It’s not like I rely on that to make money.”
“But when an entertainment company makes money, it really makes money!” Lin Sifei shot upright, pouting at her. “Besides, I don’t have an identity or an education right now. Other than the entertainment industry, a place that looks at your face, I have no way to earn money. I want to earn money to buy you things, too. I can’t always use your money to buy you gifts.”
Luo Ke paused for a moment and was pulled back down by Lin Sifei.
“Please?”
“Even if I have an entertainment company, how are you going to get it done in a month?”
Lin Sifei blinked. “That will depend on you.”
Luo Ke frowned at her, feeling like she had been thoroughly scammed.
Half an hour later, Luo Ke hung up Director Chen’s call and took a deep breath. “I’ve really taken a huge loss this time. An investment of one hundred million, he really dares to ask for that.”
Lin Sifei leaned against the table with a smile, holding a DVD of that director’s movie in her hand. “His movies are all very good. With a hundred-million investment, he probably won’t lose money; it will all be used on the knife’s edge.”3
“That’s for his next film. This one still requires further investment. The entertainment company’s funds probably aren’t enough. I’ll transfer some from my side.”
“Luo Ke, you’re the best!” Lin Sifei pounced on her and hugged her.
She squeezed in front of the laptop. “I want to check your company’s email. There should be screenplays submitted by writers.”
“It’s better to use the company’s in-house screenwriters. Their skill level is guaranteed.”
Lin Sifei pouted. “They may have skill, but not necessarily quality. Plenty of them are just coasting by. Sometimes they might not even be as good as new screenwriters without connections. We can hire veteran screenwriters to revise it later.”
“That’s another sum of money,” Luo Ke glanced at her.
Lin Sifei chuckled. “You’ve already spent the biggest amount, do you still care about this little bit?”
“Is my money not money?!” Luo Ke reached out and poked her on the forehead.
Lin Sifei fell backward dramatically, her left leg kicking up as if she were unstable. “I’ll earn it back.”
Luo Ke grabbed her ankle and pulled her back. “If the movie I invested in loses its entire capital of blood4, now that would be a real face-slapping.”
“It won’t, it won’t. Mine is a small-budget film.”
Luo Ke let go of her. “How much do you need?”
Lin Sifei blinked her eyes and held up one finger. “One… one hundred million?”
Luo Ke’s eyes slanted, glaring at her. Lin Sifei instantly changed her tune5. “Fifty million, fifty million, it can’t be any less.”
She pouted, once again launching her cute offensive6.
Luo Ke sighed. “Fifty million, then.”
Lin Sifei happily hugged her, puckering her lips to kiss her. When her lips were 0.01 meters away from her cheek, she suddenly froze.
Oh, right, Luo Ke isn’t my manager, nor is she my bantering friend. With our current ambiguous relationship, kissing her on the cheek doesn’t seem appropriate.
Luo Ke was waiting for the kiss, only to see Lin Sifei’s puckered lips slowly retract, flatten, and finally press together.
Luo Ke’s face darkened. This money was truly spent at a loss.
Lin Sifei withdrew her hands, slowly stood up straight, and fidgeted with her hands behind her back. “Luo Ke, look—what kind of relationship do we have now?”
“What do you think?” Luo Ke crossed her arms, leaning back in her chair. Compared to Lin Sifei’s posture of a bowed head and compliant ears7, they looked like a big sister boss and her little underling8.
“This kind of thing isn’t decided just because I think it is.” Lin Sifei pouted. “Last time, I even said we should give it a try, didn’t you reject me?”
Luo Ke looked at her, feeling a bit complicated herself. Originally, she had planned to think it over carefully before making a decision, but then Lin Sifei turned back into a cat, and she felt it was no longer necessary. She hadn’t expected her to change back so quickly.
“I haven’t thought this through yet.” She took a deep breath, her brows knitting slightly.
Lin Sifei looked at her expression and pouted too. What’s the big deal? I, Lin Sifei, have the looks, I have the figure, and in the future, I’ll definitely inherit the glory of my past life, with a pile of gold awards in my left hand and a crowd of fans in my right. The line of people pursuing me would circle the earth a few times. Why is she acting like I’m the one throwing myself at her?
“What is there to hesitate about?” she said indignantly. “It’s not like I’m determined to be with you! I just want to give it a try, you know? I’m just after your good skills, it feels good! Is that not okay?!”
The moment the words left her mouth, they drew a surprised look from Luo Ke. She suppressed a laugh, her eyes full of teasing. “So, that’s why.”
The tips of Lin Sifei’s ears turned bright red, but she forced herself to lift her chin. “What else did you think? I have very high standards, okay.”
Luo Ke finally couldn’t hold back her laughter. Her eyes darted around. “Well—we could give it a try. Your skills are pretty good too, after all.”
She raised an eyebrow at Lin Sifei, teasing her until her face was completely flushed.
Lin Sifei twisted the strap of her clothes in her hands, then raised her hand and swatted at her. “You’re so shameless!”
She made a goofy face and ran out of the room, her slippers slapping against the floor.
Luo Ke’s shoulders shook with laughter. She shouted at her retreating back, “Weren’t you the one who said it first?”
“I can bring it up! You can’t!” Lin Sifei’s voice came from far away.
She had flown into a rage from shame9. Luo Ke laughed even more happily. As she laughed, she glanced at the family portrait standing nearby, coughed awkwardly, and reached out to turn the photo face down.
It’s a bit inappropriate to say these things in front of my parents. I hope they didn’t hear.
Lin Sifei, her face flushed red with shame, ran into her room, locked the door from the inside, and threw herself onto the bed.
She took out her tablet and received the screenplays that Luo Ke’s company had received, along with performance clips and evaluations of the actors under their banner.
She first looked through the screenplays. She wasn’t looking for something perfectly written, but for a genre and a brain-hole10 that was attractive enough and had selling points. After all, they would find other screenwriters to revise it later.
Many of those who sent emails were unknown screenwriters who were still in university or had just graduated. Some of their work was a bit immature, but it was full of spiritual energy. She picked out two and hesitated.
One of them had a very good plot, character development, and ideological depth, but it was the typical type where the drama gets popular but the actors don’t11.
The second one was a notch below the first in terms of plot and depth, but its character development was also excellent, especially the protagonist’s. To highlight the character, the script contained many irreconcilable conflicts.
Lin Sifei rolled over and sat up, sending emails to the authors of both screenplays to ask about their ideas for creating their respective scripts, the extent to which they would accept revisions, copyright fees, and so on.
After sending the emails, she turned to look at the actors. Although the company had its own rating system, Lin Sifei knew that none of it could be trusted; it was all based on which executive liked whom. If you ran into an executive with a distorted sense of aesthetics, that would be truly…
Lin Sifei clicked open the videos and watched them one by one. Many of them were indeed spicy to the eyes12.
She sighed helplessly, picked up the phone she had bought two days ago, and sent Luo Ke a message.
【It’s really not easy for this company to not have gone bankrupt yet.】
After she finished her complaint and was about to put her phone down to continue watching, the phone vibrated. Luo Ke had already replied. She picked it up and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
【All the money the department next door earned was lost by them.】
Lin Sifei raised an eyebrow and replied.
【Just watch me, I’ll earn it back for you.】
Her fighting spirit soared, and she threw herself back into the massive screening process.
She worked until eleven o’clock when the lock on the door clicked twice. Luo Ke couldn’t open the door, so she could only knock helplessly. “Xiaoxiao, open the door.”
Lin Sifei was holding her tablet, numbering and scoring in her hands. Hearing the noise, she went to open the door for her with her notebook and tablet, then slid back to the bed after opening it, completely ignoring her.
Luo Ke stood by the bed, looking at her helplessly. “It’s already eleven. Are you sure you want to stay up late? Don’t blame me if you break out in pimples tomorrow.”
Lin Sifei keenly caught the words “break out in pimples” and looked up in a daze. “You broke out in pimples?”
Luo Ke pressed her forehead, reached out to take her tablet, exited the app, and threw it into a drawer.
“Hey? What are you doing?!” Lin Sifei glared at her and reached for the drawer.
“If you take it out, I’ll withdraw my investment.”
Lin Sifei’s hand froze, and she silently pushed the drawer back in. She turned her head to glare at Luo Ke. “How can you be like this? Are you threatening me?”
Luo Ke softened her voice. “Rest early, you’ll be more efficient tomorrow. Besides, staying up late is bad for your skin, and you’re going to be an actress.”
Lin Sifei extended a finger, its tip gliding across her face. “Is my condition not good right now?”
“It’s a tiny bit off. Maybe from sleeping late, a little puffy.”
Lin Sifei slapped her hands on her face with a smack, squeezing her mouth into a little duck shape. “No way, I have to sleep.”
Watching her quickly climb into bed and pull the covers up, Luo Ke nodded in satisfaction.
“Please help me turn off the light, thank you. I’m going to sleep now. Close the door quietly, good night.”
Luo Ke stood frozen by the bed. “This is my bedroom, my bed.”
Lin Sifei blinked at her. “But I’m used to sleeping here. I’m particular about my bed.”
Luo Ke nudged her waist. “Then move over, I need to sleep too.”
Lin Sifei stayed put like a dead weight. “N-no, I don’t think so. You can sleep next door. The sheets are all clean, and the housekeeper has cleaned it. You can just go right to sleep.”
“I’m particular about my bed too.” Luo Ke raised an eyebrow, lifted the covers, and sat down.
“Hey!” Lin Sifei pressed down on the covers. “It’s not good for us to sleep together.”
“What’s not good about it?” Luo Ke looked at her. “Didn’t we sleep together before?”
Lin Sifei’s cheeks gradually turned red. “Yeah, we slept together before, that’s why we can’t sleep together now. What if we do that… that thing again?”
“You’re not in heat.”
“Ah!” Lin Sifei grabbed a pillow and threw it at her face. “Don’t say that!”
Luo Ke, having been hit, also picked up a pillow and hit her back.
Lin Sifei’s eyes widened in shock. “You actually hit me!”
Luo Ke held her pillow. “Didn’t you hit me too?”
Lin Sifei still had an accusatory look on her face. “But you hit me!”
Her tone was so aggrieved, so pitiful, that it made Luo Ke start to wonder if she had gone too far.
“Did I hurt you?”
Lin Sifei pouted. “It didn’t hurt, but you can’t hit me.”
Luo Ke understood. “So only you are allowed to bully me, and I can’t fight back, is that it?”
Lin Sifei hugged her pillow, looking at her with moist eyes. “If you’re in a relationship with me, you have to spoil me.”
“On what grounds? Why don’t you spoil me?”
Lin Sifei looked at her and fell into deep thought. “Because I’m good-looking.”
“Am I not good-looking?” Luo Ke bent down to look at her.
Lin Sifei bit her lower lip, looking at the face right in front of hers. Luo Ke’s face was of the cold and glamorous type. Perhaps from being a President for a long time, in order to cultivate a frightening aura, her eyebrows were often raised, causing the corners of her eyes to tilt up slightly as well. Her long eyelashes seemed to beckon with every blink. Her crimson lips were parted slightly, revealing a hint of white teeth.
Lin Sifei was mesmerized. She stared at Luo Ke’s lips, remembering their softness.
Her throat moved, and she felt her lips were a bit dry, so she couldn’t help but lick them.
“What are you thinking about?”
Lin Sifei was abruptly brought back to her senses. Those red lips were suddenly right before her eyes. She didn’t know when Luo Ke had gotten so close.
She shrank back with a swoosh, like a startled rabbit. “Wh-what are you doing so close?”
Luo Ke smiled. “I was calling you, but you didn’t answer. I was just seeing what you were spacing out about.”
Lin Sifei’s eyes darted around, as if she had thought of something. “Who was spacing out? I was thinking about something, about acting.”
Like having no three hundred taels of silver buried here13, she deliberately added that last part.
Over the past three days, Luo Ke had already seen through her true nature. She leaned against the headboard and nodded. “I suddenly feel that sleeping with you is indeed not very safe.”
Lin Sifei put her hands on her hips in anger. “What are you talking about? Obviously, I’m the one who’s not safe, okay.”
“Alright, then let’s see tonight who’s not safe.”
“Fine!” Lin Sifei threw back the covers, lay down, and rolled over, presenting her butt to her.
Luo Ke couldn’t help but laugh out loud. She also lay down, flat on her back, staring at the ceiling.
Lin Sifei felt the mattress vibrate, and she pouted. Laugh, laugh, laugh, let’s see who has the last laugh.
She closed her eyes to sleep. In a half-dreaming state, she felt the blanket on her being pulled up, covering her exposed arm.
She grunted softly, and a light chuckle came from behind her.
Lin Sifei complained in her belly14, Why does Luo Ke love to laugh so much? Annoying.
Wait, doesn’t Luo Ke not like to laugh? Has she ever laughed outside? Has… she?
Before she could sort out her memories, she had already fallen into a sweet dream.
The author has something to say:
Feifei is good-looking, so Feifei is righteously and confidently unreasonable.
Today was another happy day, I hope everyone is happy too, da~
