Is She a Person or a Cat?
This scene… is a bit familiar.
Lin Sifei lay on the bed, her whole body sore. Before long, she fell asleep again.
When she woke up early the next morning, the person beside her bed was gone again.
She frowned and sat on the bed, zoning out for a bit, before going back to the walk-in closet to grab a set of clothes. Her tail getting stuck at the edge of her clothes was especially uncomfortable. Yesterday, she could tolerate it because she wasn’t feeling well, but now she didn’t want to endure it for a second longer.
She casually slipped on a dress, rummaged through boxes and cabinets, and ran to the top of the stairs carrying a pair of panties.
“Luo Ke! Where are the scissors?”
“Scissors?” Luo Ke stood up. “We don’t usually use them. They should be in the storage room.”
She walked towards the storage room, and when she turned her head, she saw Lin Sifei still standing on the stairs. “Aren’t you coming over?”
Lin Sifei hooked the panties with her fingertip and raised an eyebrow. “It’s so dusty. It wouldn’t be good for me to go in like this, would it?”
The tips of Luo Ke’s ears turned slightly red. She sighed helplessly. “I’ll go find them for you. You go back and wait on the bed.”
“Alrighty.” Lin Sifei happily ran off until she was out of sight.
Luo Ke pinched her earlobe, let out a laugh, and walked into the storage room.
After finding the scissors, Luo Ke went upstairs and, sure enough, saw Lin Sifei sitting on the bed.
She reached out and beckoned to Luo Ke, then pointed at the tablet. “I just bought some new clothes and underwear. Charged it to your card.”
“Buy whatever you like. Which card did you charge it to? Is there enough money on it?”
Lin Sifei tilted her body and leaned towards her, showing her the tablet. “The one you linked before. This one.”
She smiled as she pointed it out, unconsciously leaning so close she was almost on top of Luo Ke.
Luo Ke’s throat moved, and the tips of her ears began to burn faintly again, but she couldn’t bear to make Lin Sifei move away.
“Luo Ke? Can this card be used?” Lin Sifei looked at her quizzically.
Luo Ke came back to her senses and blinked. “It can. But for now, just wear my clothes. It’s not convenient for you to go out and buy things like this.”
Lin Sifei nodded earnestly and handed her the panties from the head of the bed. “Then you help me cut this first. I’ll go pick out some clothes; the clothes need a hole cut in them too.”
“Wait…” Before Luo Ke could finish her sentence, Lin Sifei had already leaped off the bed with a swoosh and darted into the walk-in closet.
Lin Sifei pulled open the wardrobe, picking through things left and right, her cheeks gradually puffing up. Luo Ke’s style of dress was just too monotonous, basically just the three colors of black, gray, and white. Women’s suits took up more than half the space; there wasn’t a single fashionable piece of clothing.
She sighed, picked up two outfits, and held them against her body. “They seem a bit big, and they’re so ugly. Don’t want them.”
Lin Sifei hung the suits back up and continued to rummage. Finally, from the bottom of the wardrobe, she dug out a few fashionable dresses. Although they were still mainly black and white, the designs were excellent.
She picked out five and carried them out, running happily towards Luo Ke.
Putting the clothes down, she saw that Luo Ke was still in the same position as before, holding the scissors without having made a single cut.
“Why haven’t you cut it?”
“This… I don’t know where your tail is positioned.”
“Oh, right.” Lin Sifei scratched her hair. “Then I’ll put them on and you can cut it.”
She put them on and looked at Luo Ke with a smile. Suddenly, she realized something was wrong. She had them on, but if a hole needed to be cut, wouldn’t it be a little… inappropriate? Luo Ke would have to hold her by the waist or her butt.
She froze on the spot, covering her own butt and not moving an inch. Her big eyes stared at Luo Ke without blinking.
Luo Ke lifted her eyes and met hers. Her ears gradually turned red, the color spreading all the way to her face.
“HOLD IT!” Lin Sifei abruptly held up her palm. “Actually, I think what happened yesterday was just an accident. You were just helping me out of friendship.”
She paused. “It could also be like an owner to a pet. Don’t a lot of people on the internet use cotton swabs or something1 on their cats? These things are all normal!”
Lin Sifei clapped her hands together and looked at Luo Ke with a smile. But Luo Ke just stared at her silently, not playing along to support her.
Awkwardness spread through the room. Lin Sifei sheepishly lowered her hand. “You’re… a straight girl, right?”
Luo Ke saw the timid emotion revealed in her eyes, her eyelashes trembling slightly. Lin Sifei herself probably didn’t even know that when she was acting cowardly, she would pout her lips slightly, as if someone owed her something and had subjected her to a sky-sized grievance2.
Luo Ke’s fingers twitched. She averted her gaze. “I should be.”
Lin Sifei let out a long sigh of relief and patted her shoulder. “See, I told you so! Just friends helping each other out, haha.”
She let out two dry laughs and scratched her neck.
Luo Ke looked at her state of having her hands and feet at a loss and smiled helplessly. Anyone would give in to a Xiao Xiao like this.
She stood up. “Lift up your clothes. I’ll cut it for you.”
“Oh.” Lin Sifei turned her back to her. She felt Luo Ke’s hand press on her hip bone, five distinct fingers pinching her. It was a little itchy.
Lin Sifei’s cat ears twitched. She closed her eyes and clenched her teeth.
Fortunately, that hand left quickly. Luo Ke pinched the fabric and brought the scissors close.
Feeling the cool metal of the scissors, Lin Sifei’s eyes widened in fright. “You… you be careful. Don’t cut my tail.”
“I’ll be careful.”
Lin Sifei’s legs felt a little weak. Hearing the snip of the scissors, she flinched along with it. “Is it done?”
“I’ve cut an opening. Wait a moment.”
Lin Sifei pressed her lips together tightly. The slow snip-snip sound by her ear made her ears perk up like antennae.
“Done.” Luo Ke straightened up.
Hearing this, Lin Sifei let out a long sigh of relief. Before she could even finish exhaling, the fur on her tail puffed up again.
“What are you doing?!”
Luo Ke’s fingers reached into the hole, hooked her tail, and began to pull it out bit by bit. “Helping you pull your tail through.”
“I… I can do it myself.” Lin Sifei’s face was bright red. She covered her butt and turned her head to glare at her.
Luo Ke let out a laugh and brandished the scissors. “The dress hasn’t been cut yet.”
Lin Sifei could only turn back around. “It’s a deal. This time, I’ll pull my own tail out.”
With the previous experience, cutting the clothes was much faster this time. Lin Sifei let her tail out completely and wagged it happily. “This is so much more comfortable.”
Luo Ke smiled and sat on the bed. “Change into another one, and I’ll use this as a template to cut the others.”
Lin Sifei agreed and ran into the walk-in closet to change into another dress, handing the one with the hole just cut to her.
Luo Ke’s hands and feet were nimble. She smoothed out the clothes and quickly finished cutting the other pieces.
Lin Sifei sat beside her, watching her tidy up the clothes, making small talk. “You have so many suits in your wardrobe. I’ve never seen you wear these few, though.”
“I didn’t buy these. Bai Xingrui insisted on stuffing them on me, so I just stuffed them in the wardrobe.”
“I see~” Lin Sifei propped up her chin. In the novel, this Bai Xingrui was Luo Ke’s bestie, but her family situation wasn’t great either; her parents each did their own thing, and the rare times they met, they would be smashing plates and throwing bowls3.
It was also because she saw the terrible situation in her home that Luo Ke was once led to believe her own family was harmonious and warm.
Truly a good sister, unknowingly screwing people over.
But where Bai Xingrui differed from Luo Ke was that her interpersonal skills were excellent. She knew many fox friends and dog companions4, was very clear about what her own family and the Luo family were really like, and had even tried to complain to Luo Ke. Unfortunately, Luo Ke was extremely protective of her own5, finding eight hundred reasons to defend those people. After a few times, Bai Xingrui didn’t dare to speak plainly anymore, afraid of making Luo Ke angry and losing her as a friend.
Thinking about it this way, teaming up with Bai Xingrui should be a good choice.
She gave a captivating smile, her tail swaying back and forth. “Bai Xingrui is very close to you, right? How come I’ve never seen her?”
“She went abroad to travel.”
“I’m so curious. Can you call her back? I want to meet her.”
Luo Ke lowered her eyes, looking at the tail swinging back and forth behind her, her brow twitching slightly. What kind of bad idea is she cooking up now?
She raised her eyes. “You’re interested in Bai Xingrui?”
Lin Sifei nodded repeatedly, looking at her expectantly.
Luo Ke gave a cold laugh and knocked her on the forehead with a bent finger. “Bai Xingrui said she wouldn’t raise you. She has a bunch of cats. You’ll have to eat bitter days6 if you go with her.”
Lin Sifei covered her forehead and glared at her, aggrieved. “I just want to meet your friend, what are you thinking? Besides, I’m a cat demon. Of course, the fewer people who know, the better.”
“Aren’t you a Flerken7?” Luo Ke said with a smile playing on her lips.
Lin Sifei shot her a glare and changed the subject.
“Don’t you worry about me running away all day.” She reached out and put an arm around her shoulder. “No matter what, we’ve been together for so long. I’m not the kind of person to see profit and forget righteousness8. And the cat tag is…”
She touched her neck and blinked her eyes. “Where’s my cat tag?”
Luo Ke’s brow furrowed slightly, a flash of gold passing through her memory. “I think it fell into the gap between the nightstand and the bed.”
Lin Sifei pounced over, picked up the cat tag; the clasp had been undone. “I think I undid it because it felt uncomfortable. I totally forgot, haha.”
She shook the cat tag in her hand. “This is too small. I can’t wear it anymore.”
Luo Ke looked at the cat tag, but her expression darkened. “Don’t wear it anymore, even when you turn back into a cat.”
“What’s wrong?”
Luo Ke snatched the cat tag. “This collar is so small. You turned into a person. What if you hadn’t pulled it off yourself yesterday and it choked you?”
Lin Sifei thought about it and agreed, nodding her head. She lay back on the bed with her head thrown back.
“I can’t accompany you to the company like this anymore. Staying at home alone is a bit boring.”
Luo Ke smiled and ruffled her hair. “Can you turn back into a cat?”
Lin Sifei’s eyes darted around. This was actually something she was worried about too. The timing of her turning human was pretty awkward, and she didn’t know if she would change back again. If she could only turn human when she was in heat, that would be way too embarrassing.
She wrapped herself up in the blanket. “I don’t know. I just cultivated into human form. I haven’t learned how to change between a cat and a person yet.”
“You really haven’t learned well. You didn’t hide these at all.” Luo Ke smiled and pinched her ear.
Lin Sifei’s body trembled. She pulled her ears into the blanket. “Go, go, go. Hurry up and go to work.”
Luo Ke laughed and patted the large lump in the blanket. “Then I’m off to work. The auntie will come to cook at noon. Don’t go downstairs. Wait until she leaves before you go down.”
She pulled up an app on the tablet and entered a password. “This is the security feed. It covers the rooms and the yard.”
“Wow, so complete. Then it wasn’t so bad when you left me at home before.”
“Lazy cat.” Luo Ke smiled, waved, and walked out the door.
Lin Sifei stuck a hand out from the blanket. “Bye-bye.”
Luo Ke closed the door, and the smile on her face vanished. She let out a long sigh, brushed the hair from her forehead, and murmured, “Accident, friends, an act of assistance.”
She pressed her lips together and shook her head. “Xiao Xiao is just a cat. It was just… helping.”
She walked quickly downstairs.
Lin Sifei propped her chin in her hands, lying on the bed and looking at her account. The cat photos she had taken before were liked by quite a few people, and her follower count was shooting up. It wasn’t a waste of all the promotion fees she had spent.
Opening the comments section, she replied to a few people, then backed out and searched for Yan Yafei.
Now that she had entered Yuan Corporation, she didn’t know what she was up to. Luckily, she liked to share her daily life on her social media account, so it was possible to guess.
She had just opened Yan Yafei’s account when she saw a short Weibo9 post accompanied by a peace-sign selfie. She looked innocent and energetic.
【Ran into a designer on the street and got pulled to be a temporary model】
Lin Sifei shot up with a swoosh. Taking modeling photos? How is it so soon? In the original plot, this temporary model was originally a background board10, but how could the female lead be a background board? She was spotted by a gold-medal agent11, signed a contract to enter the entertainment industry, and planned to transition from a model to a star.
But the date shouldn’t be this much earlier.
Lin Sifei scratched her head frantically. No, she couldn’t let Yan Yafei get famous. Otherwise, with that petty personality of hers, she would definitely find all sorts of ways to deal with Luo Ke.
However, she grabbed the cat ears on her head and froze.
Right, she wasn’t a cat and not quite a person right now. How was she supposed to deal with Yan Yafei? It was hard for her to even see people.
“AHHHHHH! WHY!”
Lin Sifei was dejected until the evening. The moment she saw Luo Ke, she immediately rushed up and hugged her.
Luo Ke was stunned for a moment, then patted her on the back. “What’s wrong? Who made you angry?”
“No one.” Lin Sifei pouted. She didn’t want Luo Ke to know about Yan Yafei yet. Otherwise, given the identity traits of a protagonist and a villain, she didn’t know if it would stir up other trouble.
“I was bored at home alone.”
Luo Ke laughed at her words and took out a hat, placing it on her head.
Lin Sifei’s eyes widened in surprise. “This…”
“Cover your ears, hide your tail, and then can’t you go out?”
Lin Sifei was so moved she was on the verge of tears. Luo Ke was so good, still thinking about her being bored at home alone and helping her think of ways to cover up.
“This way, we can go to places with fewer people to have fun.” Lin Sifei smiled, revealing her little sharp teeth. “Wear pants. Buy large-sized pants.”
Lin Sifei had already started perfecting the plan, even beginning to think about where they could go nearby that had few people.
Seeing her smiling again, Luo Ke happily sat down at the dining table.
On the table, dinner was untouched. Luo Ke frowned. “Xiao Xiao, you haven’t eaten yet?”
“Huh?” The hat was making Lin Sifei’s ears a little itchy. She took it off first and ran over to sit next to Luo Ke. “Actually, my name isn’t Xiao Xiao. I have a name. My name is Lin Sifei.”
“Lin Sifei?” Luo Ke mulled the name over on the tip of her tongue. “It really sounds like a human name.”
Lin Sifei felt a little insecure. She put a hand on her hip. “Of course! I’m a cat demon who was born able to cultivate. Of course I have to be farsighted when choosing a name. You think I’m some ordinary cat? Hmph!”
She deliberately turned her head away, her eyes darting around shiftily12, peeking at Luo Ke.
Luo Ke noticed her little movements and found it somewhat amusing, playing along with her. “Xiao Xiao is right.”
“Not Xiao Xiao, it’s Lin Sifei!” She paused. “If you’re not used to it, you can call me Feifei.”
She flashed a big smile. Her fans used to call her that, and her manager, assistants, and everyone around her followed suit. She was used to hearing the name “Feifei”.
“Alright, I’ll try my best to change how I call you, Feifei.” Luo Ke deliberately emphasized her name.
Lin Sifei looked at her crescent moon-like eyes and suddenly blushed, turning her head away. “Hurry up and eat. You came home early today. The auntie just finished making this food, it’s still hot.”
She picked up her chopsticks and placed a few lamb chops in her bowl. “This smells so good. You have to try it.”
Luo Ke also picked up her chopsticks and took a bite, nodding slightly. “Delicious.”
Lin Sifei’s eyes lit up. She also reached out her chopsticks to grab a piece. Before she could bring it to her mouth, her hand was grabbed by Luo Ke.
The lamb chop fell into her bowl. She frowned. “What are you doing? You’re not even going to let me eat?”
“You’re a cat. You can’t eat stimulating things.” Luo Ke pointed at the lamb chops. “There’s so much chili powder and pepper powder sprinkled on this, and salt too. You can’t eat it.”
“But, I’m a person now.”
Luo Ke raised a hand and flicked the cat ears on her head. “Then what are these?”
Lin Sifei covered her ears and pouted. “That’s not necessarily true. Anyway, I’m not a simple cat anymore.”
“No. You can’t gamble with your health.”
Lin Sifei’s eyes darted around. “I’ve got it! Don’t cats not taste sweetness? I’ll eat some ice cream to see if it tastes sweet.”
She ran to the fridge, took out a carton of ice cream, and tasted a spoonful. Her eyes widened in surprise. “It’s sweet!”
Luo Ke tilted her head strangely. “You couldn’t taste sweetness before, so how do you know what you’re tasting is sweet?”
Lin Sifei froze, then quickly recovered. “Be-because I’ve heard people say ice cream is sweet. Before, when I ate it, I could only feel that it was cold. Now there’s a different flavor, so it must be sweet.”
She trotted to the table. “Anyway, I can taste sweetness, which proves I’m a person.”
“It’s still not safe.”
Lin Sifei shot her a “you’re so dumb” look. “Doesn’t the house have a cat first-aid kit? Get the diarrhea medicine ready. If I get diarrhea, it proves I’m still a cat, so the medicine will work just the same.”
Luo Ke was still worried, but Lin Sifei had already taken a bite of a lamb chop.
Given Luo Ke’s extreme worry, dinner still consisted of Lin Sifei eating only a tiny bit of human food, with the rest being cat food.
After dinner, Lin Sifei gnawed on a small dried fish, glaring at Luo Ke. In her past life, she had to lose weight for acting roles and hadn’t eaten well for a long time. Right after that, she transmigrated into a book and ate cat food every day. It was a rare chance to eat proper dishes, and she was still being stopped.
She sighed to the heavens. Although Luo Ke was worried about her, she felt that she was really fine now.
Luo Ke kept staring at her nervously. When they went to sleep, she even placed the medicine box on the nightstand, just in case.
Lin Sifei touched her calm stomach, feeling that she was worrying too much. She pulled the blanket up and closed her eyes to sleep.
She still slept in the same bed as Luo Ke, just with separate blankets.
Luo Ke stayed up watching her until midnight. Seeing Lin Sifei sleeping soundly, she relaxed a little and closed her eyes to rest. Not long after she fell asleep, she heard whimpering sounds from beside her.
She opened her eyes, turned on the bedside lamp, and saw Lin Sifei covered in sweat, constantly kicking the blanket with her feet, but her hands were gripping it tightly.
Luo Ke hurriedly opened the medicine box and took out the medicine. “Xiao Xiao, Xiao Xiao, wake up. Does your stomach hurt? Get up and take your medicine.”
She put an arm around Lin Sifei’s shoulders, letting her lean against her chest.
Lin Sifei panted with hot breaths, sitting in her lap with her legs pressed tightly together, her forehead unable to stop rubbing against her neck.
Luo Ke reached a hand into the blanket, wanting to help rub her stomach. “You’ll be fine after taking the medicine, be good now.”
However, the moment her hand was placed there, it was grabbed by Lin Sifei’s hand.
She held her hand, guiding it downwards. Lin Sifei let out a moan, her eyes squinting, with water droplets hanging from her eyelashes.
Luo Ke’s eyes widened abruptly. She whipped her head around to look at her. A flushed red face, and trembling pink cat ears.
Her throat moved. This scene… was a bit familiar.
The author has something to say:
Yesterday, so many little cuties13 were asking me what “that thing” was. Are you guys teasing me, or do you really not know!
I feel like I’m already getting on the highway14, but you guys are telling me you’re still waiting at the station. I’m so scared QAQ. You’re just messing with me, right? Tomorrow should still be an update of five thousand characters split into two chapters. One chapter at 9 PM, the time for the other is uncertain. Also, when the story went VIP, several little cuties threw “mines”15 to celebrate, and the “nutrient solution”16 has also increased. Love you all, muah muah, thank you for your support, so happy I’m spinning in circles.
