The Luo Family Residence is So Big
Shallow Nouveau Riche
Ever since running into Yan Yafei in the neighborhood, Lin Sifei had completely changed her previous salted fish1 ways, rushing to the windowsill to spy on the villa across the street the moment she got home every day.
After a few days of watching, she hadn’t seen Yan Yafei again.
Lin Sifei chewed on a little dried fish and fell into deep thought. According to the novel’s setup, the female lead is pure and cute, so she definitely wouldn’t be going in and out of brother number one’s house every day. It seems like she was just visiting last time.
Having figured this out, Lin Sifei nodded in self-approval.
“Xiao Xiao, I’ve been watching you for a while. Are you still looking at the Yuan family’s house?”
Hearing Luo Ke’s sinister tone, Lin Sifei shivered. She quickly snatched up a small dried fish, nudged her way to Luo Ke’s hand, and stuffed it toward her.
“Meow~” Here, for you.
Luo Ke’s expression softened a little. She booped her on the nose and pushed the dried fish back into her mouth. “You eat it. It’s covered in your drool.”
Lin Sifei rolled her eyes and went back to crunching on the dried fish.
Luo Ke smiled faintly, her eyes glancing toward Yuan Mo as he walked out not far away. When she saw the Ragdoll cat in his arms, she raised an eyebrow slightly.
She looked at the little silly cat beside her, then back at the Ragdoll, and stroked her chin.
Luo Ke was still studying the other cat when her phone on the table rang. Seeing the caller ID, she took a deep breath and answered, “Grandma.”
“Xiao Ke, are you coming to see Grandma this weekend? The whole family hasn’t gotten together in so long. Grandma and your uncles and aunts all miss you very much.”
Luo Ke pulled out a chair and sat down. “I should be free this weekend. I’ll come back.”
She paused. “Oh, right, Grandma, I got a cat. Can I bring her back with me this weekend for you to see?”
“Of course! It’s usually boring here, so it’ll be nice to have her around to play with.”
Lin Sifei, lying nearby, listened to the phone conversation, and her eyes lit up. Luo Ke’s grandmother is online. This one is both smart and stupid.
She glanced at Luo Ke’s expression, and seeing how it had clearly softened, she sighed in her heart.
It looks like Luo Ke really likes her grandmother. What am I going to do? How can I make her believe the Luo family are all-crew villains2?
Lin Sifei frowned. Besides the issue of trust, she still didn’t know exactly what the Luo family would do to stir up trouble. The book was written from the female lead’s perspective and only covered a portion of the story, so it wasn’t complete.
As she was spacing out, Luo Ke reached over and picked her up. “Xiao Xiao, we’re going to see Grandma this weekend. Are you happy?”
Not happy——
Lin Sifei stared blankly at the floor with a pair of dead fish eyes3. Whatever. I’ll just take things one step at a time. I’ll meet this grandmother first.
Early Saturday morning, Lin Sifei was still sleeping when a sudden burst of light appeared before her eyes. She let out a displeased “meow” and rolled over to face away from the window. Who opened the curtains?
“Get up, you little lazy cat.” Luo Ke knelt on the bed with one knee, poking her face and wiggling it back and forth.
“Meow!” Lin Sifei furiously opened her eyes, meeting Luo Ke’s smiling ones.
So pretty. Lin Sifei licked the corner of her mouth. Her anger dissipated, and she stretched lazily.
Having woken her up, Luo Ke went to wash up with a smile.
Lin Sifei hopped off the bed. Looking at the dress hanging on the rack, she nudged it with a paw, remembering they were going to her grandmother’s house today.
She’s that happy, huh? She even deliberately changed out of her usual professional attire. Lin Sifei propped her chin on her paws and sighed worriedly.
With something weighing on her mind, she wore a debt-collector’s face4 the entire way, looking extremely punchable.
Luo Ke drove across the entire city, making turn after turn before ducking into a stretch of woods. Lin Sifei, pressed against the car window, stared at the gates within the forest, her mouth slightly agape.
This Luo family residence was way too tacky and rich, it was so——————big.
Two uniformed security guards stood at the villa’s main gate. Seeing her car, they stepped forward and opened it.
Luo Ke drove the car in and continued for several more minutes before reaching the front of the main villa.
Lin Sifei looked around in shock. When Luo Ke took her out of the car, she couldn’t resist reaching a paw out to touch the nearby fountain.
This carving is incredible. Which master did they hire?
In her past life, she had played the role of a sculptor for a movie and had followed the art exhibitions of many masters to study for it. She hadn’t learned much else, but her artistic sense had skyrocketed.
Seeing her captivated look, Luo Ke shook her head helplessly. She pinched her paw and tapped it against the fountain’s water. “Alright, you’ve played with the water. Stop messing around now.”
Lin Sifei couldn’t help but roll her eyes again. You’re the one who wants to play with water, you shallow nouveau riche. Hmph!
Luo Ke carried her into the main residence. Lin Sifei thought for a moment and decided to maintain her cute cat persona5, adjusting her facial expression to become obedient and adorable.
Just as they entered, they came face-to-face with Luo Shengping. The corner of her mouth twitched, and her claws shot out reflexively.
Luo Shengping saw her claws immediately. His own face stung at the memory, and he couldn’t help but cover it as he pointed at Luo Ke. “Hey, hey, hold on to your cat! Don’t let it go crazy and scratch someone again.”
“She doesn’t scratch people without reason.” Luo Ke glanced at him, then bent into a deep bow. “Second Uncle.”
Luo Shengping’s expression improved considerably. “We’re family, no need to be so formal. Come on in.”
Luo Ke nodded and followed him inside, bowing to greet each person in the living room one by one.
Lin Sifei couldn’t help but hug her arm, nuzzling against it sympathetically. What kind of messed-up family is this, making Luo Ke bow to every single person? Keys are three for five yuan—are you worthy?6
After Luo Ke finished her bows, her arm tightened. She looked down to see Xiao Xiao clinging to her, all the fur on her body standing on end.
She chuckled and stroked her soothingly. “There, there, don’t be scared.”
“So this is the cat Xiao Ke is raising? It looks so fierce,” a woman with permed, curly hair said, shaking her head in distaste. “No wonder it scratched up my little brother’s face before.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a man reading a newspaper nearby looked up and nodded in agreement. “There are too many diseases from cats and dogs these days. Who knows if it has rabies. If it’s too aggressive, it’s better not to keep it.”
Hearing this, Lin Sifei’s anger flared, and she wanted to pounce on them and give them each three stripes.
Luo Ke held her back, bowing her head slightly. “Xiao Xiao is very well-behaved. Last time, Second Uncle accidentally dropped a cup, and it startled her, causing a bit of a stress reaction.”
“That’s still no reason to scratch someone,” the curly-haired woman started to say, but a cough cut her off.
Hearing the sound, Luo Ke immediately turned and bowed again. “Grandma.”
Lin Sifei gritted her teeth and looked over. She had expected to see an old woman with a full head of white hair walking with a cane, but the person before her looked quite young. Her hair was dyed completely black and styled in a neat, wavy bob. Her earrings and necklace were made of large, lustrous pearls, and a jade-green qipao7 made her look vibrant and healthy.
Four words flashed through Lin Sifei’s mind—pearlescent light and jeweled air8.
Makes sense. After all, this old lady had been pretending to be a good grandmother for over twenty years, and later on, she even wanted to swallow up the Luo Corporation.
Old Mrs. Luo stepped forward to hug Luo Ke, patting her on the back. “Good child.”
She then turned her head to the woman who had spoken. “Bihua9, don’t always be so controlling with Xiao Ke. She’s an adult now. Even if we know you’re just worried about her, nobody feels good being constantly told what to do.”
“I know, Mom.” Luo Bihua smiled and helped her to the sofa. “Xiao Ke, sit down. Your Eldest Aunt spoke too hastily just now. Don’t take it to heart.”
Luo Ke shook her head gently. “Eldest Aunt was just concerned for me. How could I blame you?”
Luo Bihua10 laughed at her words and pressed her down to sit on the sofa. “I knew Xiao Ke was the most obedient. Oh, right, Eldest Aunt went to Paris and bought you a gift. I’ll go get it for you.”
Lin Sifei watched her go upstairs, cursing inwardly. This old lady really knows how to talk. The Eldest Aunt was clearly in the wrong, yet she twisted it into an act of concern, and now you can’t even blame her without seeming like you can’t appreciate good intentions. Heh.
