After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, I Marked the Crazy Hotshot – Chapter 96

Afraid You’d Run Away

“Why would she come here?”

In Bai Xin low, hoarse voice, one could still hear her displeasure with Cheng Jing.

If not for Cheng Jiqing’s sake, she would have undoubtedly fought with Cheng Jing over the latter investigating her behind her back.

Cheng Jiqing shook her head, equally puzzled. “Perhaps she’s on a business trip nearby.”

As she spoke, she went to check Bai Xin’s collar. The clothes the lawyer had brought couldn’t cover her neck, but fortunately, the black silk scarf was unscathed this time and still usable.

It could hide the pink marks on her neck.

Bai Xin, sensing the gaze, looked up as well.

Her eyes met Cheng Jiqing’s just as the latter was about to look away.

Thinking Cheng Jiqing was worried Cheng Jing would cause trouble for her, Bai Xin lifted her chin and said casually, “I’m not afraid of her.”

Hearing this, Cheng Jiqing let out a low laugh, feeling that this person was sometimes, without even trying, truly cute.

That expression wasn’t fear at all; it looked more like she wanted to give Cheng Jing a show of force1.

Although no one was around, Cheng Jiqing still lowered her voice. “I’ve already made things clear with Cheng Jing…”

A cloud of mist left her lips and drifted away.

After speaking, Cheng Jiqing paused, suddenly recalling that for Bai Xin, besides Cheng Jing’s past feelings for her, there was also a much older issue, one that encompassed the past and Cheng Jing’s concealment of the truth about Bai Xin’s mother’s death.

Seeing Cheng Jiqing’s hesitation, Bai Xin’s gaze fell on her lips. She had kissed them too harshly last night, and the inner part of her lower lip was a slightly deeper shade.

Her tongue scraped lightly against her teeth; she really wanted another taste.

Bai Xin said, “Chengcheng, if one day you and Cheng Jing truly bury the hatchet2, I won’t make things difficult for you.”

Perhaps Cheng Jing had turned over a new leaf and truly had no more designs on Cheng Jiqing.

But she herself was petty. Except for Cheng Jiqing, she had always been the type to seek revenge for the smallest grievance.

But for Cheng Jiqing’s sake… she could endure it.

Cheng Jiqing’s heart skipped a beat. She turned and continued walking toward the villa, her steps slow to match Bai Xin’s pace.

In a low, gentle voice, she said, “You don’t need to endure anything for my sake.”

She said no more.

Because as she spoke, they had already reached the front door.

The villa door opened, and a wave of warmth rushed out. One could immediately see the people on the living room sofa. Cheng Jing was seated on a single armchair, while Director Yu Wei and the assistant director sat together.

It was a standard “business-like” meeting.

The atmosphere was clearly tense. Judging by the two directors’ cautious expressions, talking with Cheng Jing was more difficult than filming a variety show.

The moment the two entered.

Director Yu Wei felt a sense of relief, as if bathed in a spring breeze. Business was business, but in life, who didn’t like a gentle beauty like Cheng Jiqing?

Yu Wei stood up and asked, “You’re back? Are you feeling alright?”

Cheng Jiqing met Cheng Jing’s eyes and replied, “We’re fine, but Bai Xin was a bit frightened. She’ll need to rest well these next couple of days.”

“Have you been to the hospital? We can have the medical team accompany you for a more detailed check-up.”

Bai Xin said flatly that it wasn’t necessary. She had expended too much mental energy, and her physical strength and trembling legs weren’t enough to support her standing for so long.

She sat down on a nearby single armchair, her gaze slowly falling on the person opposite her.

She scrutinized her without any attempt to hide it.

Fearing Bai Xin might unknowingly offend someone, Yu Wei and the assistant director said, “Bai Xin, if you’re not feeling well, why don’t you go upstairs and rest first? If you can’t participate in the recording for the next two days, we can discuss it.”

“I am a bit tired, I can’t walk any further,” Bai Xin replied.

Before Yu Wei could respond, Bai Xin’s voice, tinged with discomfort, spoke up, “President Cheng, long time no see.”

Yu Wei paused. Hearing that casual tone, she knew that in this room, only she and the assistant director were superfluous.

Cheng Jing was still wearing a crisp suit. With one leg crossed over the other, she looked at Bai Xin, her red lips curling slightly. “President Bai, you really ran quite far.”

Bai Xin leaned limply against the sofa. “Likewise.”

Cheng Jiqing: “…”

The conversation didn’t have a strong smell of gunpowder, yet the room was already filled with a tense atmosphere.

She coughed twice. Hearing this, Bai Xin shifted her gaze from Cheng Jing and pouted.

Cheng Jing’s cold expression also softened. She looked at Cheng Jiqing. “Are you hurt?”

Cheng Jiqing said she was fine.

Yu Wei must have already told Cheng Jing about last night’s events.

“Director, you two may leave first.”

Since Cheng Jing had spoken, Yu Wei and the assistant director didn’t stay any longer.

The other people in the villa had been arranged by the production team to go tour other districts. At this moment, only three people remained in the entire villa.

Cheng Jiqing took a seat on the long sofa. Just as she sat down, the space beside her dipped as Bai Xin sat down next to her. Because the window outside was transparent, she didn’t get too close.

Cheng Jiqing glanced sideways, the corners of her eyes curving in a hint of hidden indulgence.

She knew Bai Xin was already holding back admirably.

There was no need to put up a front in front of Cheng Jing, really.

Cheng Jing knew she and Bai Xin were together, and after Cheng Jing had investigated the matter of the drug last time, she already knew Bai Xin was an omega… she just didn’t know about their marriage.

In fact, it wouldn’t matter much even if she found out now.

Cheng Jiqing recalled what Bai Xin had said to her that morning.

Hiding a beauty in a golden house is certainly safe, but it can’t compare to the wonder of sleeping and leaving together, of embracing neck to neck under the light with fingers intertwined.

Cheng Jing saw this, her emotions unreadable, though not overly bad. Her only source of displeasure was Bai Xin’s previous concealment of matters from Cheng Jiqing.

But she wouldn’t put Cheng Jiqing in the middle.

Cheng Jiqing asked, “Why did you come here?”

Cheng Jing straightened up slightly. “I called you but couldn’t reach you. The production team told me what happened last night, so I rushed over directly.”

She paused. “That lawyer you found is quite good. I’ve had someone talk to a local friend; they’ll help with the investigation too.”

Cheng Jiqing nodded. She had checked when she left; although the alley was dark, there were surveillance cameras at the entrance and exit.

The conversation paused briefly.

Cheng Jiqing stood up, walked to the peninsula counter, and brought back two black teacups. She poured a cup of hot tea for Bai Xin first. “Go on up and rest?”

Bai Xin’s lips were somewhat pale. Despite the flush on her cheeks, she didn’t look healthy.

She looked frail, almost sickly.

Cheng Jiqing wondered if she had overdone it last night, and a twinge of regret surfaced in her heart.

“I’ll wait for you.”

Bai Xin said.

The implication was, she would wait to go up and rest with her.

Cheng Jing averted her gaze, a hint of clear-sighted coldness in her eyes. How could she not understand that this was meant for her to hear?

“I came here today for another matter,” Cheng Jing began. “Yesterday, in the early morning, Fu Rongjun suddenly gave me a call.”

As she spoke, she looked at Bai Xin again. “She asked me to give the Bai Corporation—or to be precise, to give Bai Zhaoliang—a sum of money.”

A sum that could pay off nearly 50% of Bai Zhaoliang’s debts.

“Fu Rongjun?”

Cheng Jiqing wasn’t too surprised. She had once suspected there were secrets between Fu Rongjun and Bai Zhaoliang, but since Bai Zhaoliang had held out for so long without approaching Fu Rongjun, she had assumed she was overthinking it.

Now it seemed she wasn’t.

More than that, she had another, more pressing question. “Did you know Fu Rongjun was in Copenhagen yesterday?”

Hearing this, Cheng Jing’s brow furrowed. “She came looking for you?”

She clearly hadn’t known.

Cheng Jiqing recounted the entire sequence of events. Cheng Jing pondered, “Timing-wise, that’s about when she contacted me.”

Cheng Jiqing’s expression relaxed slightly. If what happened to Bai Xin wasn’t a conspiracy, she could feel more at ease.

Then it was possible that Fu Rongjun had suddenly received a call from Bai Zhaoliang midway, and thus had no time to worry about her, which was why she didn’t show up.

But she had called Cheng Jing instead.

So what did Bai Zhaoliang say to Fu Rongjun?

“For Fu Rongjun to agree, Bai Zhaoliang must have some kind of leverage on her,” Cheng Jiqing said thoughtfully. “The bloodline issue?”

Cheng Jing shook her head. “Fu Rongjun already knows that you know the truth.”

So that couldn’t be it.

She also turned to glance at Bai Xin, who said bluntly, “In your past dealings with Bai Zhaoliang, was there nothing else besides the blood relationship?”

Cheng Jing: “What do you mean?”

“Nothing.”

Bai Xin spoke calmly. “I’m just discussing the matter at hand. Why are you so worked up?”

Cheng Jing chuckled. “Me, worked up?”

Cheng Jiqing cut in, “So Bai Zhaoliang has leverage on Fu Rongjun, and you’re just… telling me this?”

Fu Rongjun was, after all, Cheng Jing’s biological mother.

This question was directed at Cheng Jing, but it was also meant for Bai Xin to hear, to show that, for now, Cheng Jing held no ill will toward them.

Bai Xin understood Cheng Jiqing’s meaning. She took a sip of her tea and said no more.

Cheng Jing was silent for a moment. “To me, you are also family.”

In fact, compared to blood ties, Cheng Jiqing’s significance in her life was even greater.

Of course, her feelings for Fu Rongjun were also very deep.

She had given all her shares to Cheng Jiqing not just as compensation, but also in the hope that it would make Fu Rongjun see the light and stop being shackled by power and money. Unfortunately, the effect had been minimal.

Hearing the word ‘family,’ Bai Xin glanced over, but this time she said nothing.

Cheng Jing took a light breath and looked at Bai Xin. “I’m saying this in front of you because I thought you might know something. It seems now that besides them, no one knows what’s going on.”

Bai Xin said, “For Bai Zhaoliang to wait until the very end to approach Fu Rongjun, it means this is definitely not a small matter.”

With her understanding of Bai Zhaoliang, once he decided to latch onto someone, he definitely wouldn’t let go easily.

“So what’s your plan now?”

Cheng Jiqing asked.

Cheng Jing said, “Bai Xin is right. If this isn’t resolved, Bai Zhaoliang will keep pestering us, and maybe he’ll come find you next.” Fu Rongjun too.

Only by resolving this could they all perhaps live in peace.

“The first thing we need to know is what kind of leverage Bai Zhaoliang has… something that made him wait until the very end, and then strike so ruthlessly,” Cheng Jiqing said.

“What if, when Bai Zhaoliang couldn’t get the money from Fu Rongjun, a third party was able to give him that sum?” Bai Xin said. “Once the hush money is gone, Bai Zhaoliang won’t keep her secret for her.”

She knew that petty man Bai Zhaoliang all too well.

Bai Zhaoliang wouldn’t burn his bridges until the very last step, which was why he had kept Fu Rongjun as an option. Now he was desperate, having lost even his place to live, unable to survive.

The words would spill from his mouth cleaner and faster than ever before.

“However…” Bai Xin looked at Cheng Jing, clearing her throat from the strain. “I just don’t know if President Cheng can truly be ruthless enough.”

After talking for a while, Bai Xin’s spirits were not as good as they had been in the car, but she didn’t lose an inch of ground when speaking to Cheng Jing.

She refused to.

Cheng Jing let out a low snort.

Bai Xin naturally wouldn’t understand her intentions. She just wanted the Cheng family to find peace.

For Cheng Jiqing, for Fu Rongjun, and for herself to finally find peace.

“Then let’s leave this third party to President Bai to handle.”

The atmosphere among the three fell silent.

The necessary topics had been covered, and for a moment, there seemed to be nothing else to say.

“Chengcheng.”

“Hm?”

Cheng Jiqing turned to meet Bai Xin’s weary eyes.

Bai Xin said, “I’m so tired.”

Cheng Jiqing subconsciously reached out to feel her forehead. “Should I take you upstairs first?”

Bai Xin’s brow furrowed. Hearing this, she glanced in Cheng Jing’s direction.

Cheng Jing: “…”

Cheng Jing took an imperceptible deep breath, an inexplicable sense of speechlessness rising within her.

It was just short of having ‘Aren’t you leaving yet?’ written all over her face.

Her feelings were very complex. Watching the two of them be so lovey-dovey in front of her always felt strange somehow.

After thinking about it, she understood. In the past, Bai Xin had always been an alpha in her presence, and to this day, she still subconsciously thought of her that way.

But once she accepted the fact that Bai Xin was an omega, all of Cheng Jiqing’s past special treatment of Bai Xin could be explained. Perhaps the signs were there from the very beginning, from that time they were ‘caught in bed.’

Forget it.

What was the point of thinking about this now? It was in the past, and more importantly, it was meaningless.

There was no need to be a nuisance.

Cheng Jing stood up. Before leaving, she reminded Cheng Jiqing to be careful when going out. Finally, she looked at Bai Xin and said nothing.

The entanglement between her and Bai Xin wasn’t something that could be resolved in a day or two.

The foreign wind and frost of February were colder than in Beicheng.

The black Rolls-Royce headed toward a star-rated hotel in the city center, the rear window slowly rolling down.

Cheng Jing lit a cigarette. The wind blew in, chasing the smoke out.

She exhaled, her brow furrowed and unquiet.

To say she wasn’t worried at all would be a lie. She was worried that Fu Rongjun had done something even more unfathomable, even more incomprehensible, behind her back.

At a traffic light.

Cheng Jing’s fingers, holding the cigarette, rested lightly on the window frame. The wind had numbed them. She heard Secretary Liu say, “President Cheng, I heard Miss Tu will be the closing act at the Copenhagen opera house tonight.”

Cheng Jing was silent for a long while. “Mm.”

Secretary Liu didn’t understand what that meant—was she going or not?

Judging by Cheng Jing’s attitude after leaving the opera house last time, she was still special to Tu Xiuxiu. Plus, Cheng Jing had been frequently downcast recently. Sometimes when she entered the office, she would see Cheng Jing staring out the window in a daze.

This had never happened in the past.

So before coming, she had checked the news and specially bought tickets for the opera house.

She thought that it could be a way to relax, or to see an ‘old friend,’ and maybe her mood would improve.

The car started moving.

It shook off half an ash from Cheng Jing’s cigarette, which fell to the ground against the overcast sky and vanished without a sound.

Utterly uninteresting.

The window closed, and warmth enveloped her body once more.

Only then did Cheng Jing realize her fingers were a bit stiff from the cold. She lowered her head and moved her five fingers.

Sensation belatedly returned.

“I’m not going.”

Last time was a greeting after a long separation, and also their true farewell after three years.

To go again would be a disturbance.

After Cheng Jing left, Cheng Jiqing took Bai Xin up to the second-floor room.

The moment they entered, Cheng Jiqing’s waist was seized, and her arms filled with the woman’s fragrance.

She looked down, one arm wrapping around Bai Xin’s back as she used her other hand to close the door. “Aren’t you tired? Get on the bed and rest.”

Bai Xin lifted her face. After their eyes met, she kissed Cheng Jiqing’s chin, her gaze lingering on her lips. “Will you stay with me?”

That scorching gaze made Cheng Jiqing’s lips feel dry.

A single night had just ended, yet the thoughts were utterly unrestrained.

The satisfaction from just a few hours ago had already dissipated by more than half. They had been apart for too long, especially psychologically. One passionate session couldn’t fill the entire void.

Cheng Jiqing said, “I’ll watch you sleep. I have to go meet with Director Yu Wei in a bit.”

Bai Xin’s eyelashes drooped, and the hand on Cheng Jiqing’s waist tightened to show her displeasure.

Cheng Jiqing chuckled softly, her hand slowly threading through the hair at the nape of Bai Xin’s neck as she lowered her lips for a kiss. Her lips pressed against Bai Xin’s slightly parted ones, grinding slowly.

The moment they touched, Bai Xin let out an involuntary hum.

Downstairs, she had already been an arrow at the end of its flight3. Now, being kissed, her legs began to tremble again.

Cheng Jiqing lifted Bai Xin, carried her to the bedside, and sat her down on the bed.

She stood before Bai Xin, bent down, and helped straighten her hair. Looking into those drowsy eyes, her breathing was not quite steady. “Be good, sleep first.”

Her low, coaxing tone soothed the discomfort in Bai Xin’s body.

She still had her head tilted up, her eyes half-closed. “Then help me.”

Cheng Jiqing looked at that crimson face. Her lips, which had just been rubbed by her, were also rosy. At that moment, her entire face was covered in a layer of peach color.

Pink, moist, and translucent.

Like a peach panna cotta.

She felt a momentary, ticklish desire4. She caressed that cheek again and gave Bai Xin another kiss on the lips.

The corner of Bai Xin’s eye twitched up.

“Why are you being a rogue?”

“Hm?”

“You tell me to sleep, but then you seduce me.”

“…”

Cheng Jiqing chuckled, exchanging a look with Bai Xin. The quiet space felt exceptionally warm. She said again, “Close your eyes, I’ll help you.”

Hearing this, Bai Xin obediently closed her eyes.

Cheng Jiqing untied the silk scarf, then the belt of the coat, and finally took off the overcoat.

The long dress underneath was revealed.

She had also instructed the lawyer to buy it.

As she removed each item, her mind began to wander5.

Especially when she saw the marks on those two snowy-white mounds, Cheng Jiqing’s eyes darkened, and she quickened her pace slightly.

She then slipped the nightdress over her.

Having been caught in the rain and wind last night, Bai Xin was perhaps a little dizzy. No matter what ideas she had, her body wouldn’t allow it. Cheng Jiqing covered her with the quilt and soothed her to sleep.

She sat by the bed, taking out the new phone Cheng Jing had brought to switch the SIM card.

After five minutes, she looked up and found Bai Xin watching her.

She put down the phone. “Can’t sleep?”

Bai Xin said that wasn’t it.

After a few seconds of watching, Bai Xin’s hand emerged from a corner of the quilt. “Afraid you’d run away.”

Her eyes were already nearly closed.

Hearing this, Cheng Jiqing reached out to hold it. It was soft as if boneless. She squeezed it gently. “I won’t run. You’re too tired, you need to rest.”

Feeling the solid touch, Bai Xin grunted in agreement and closed her eyes again.

This time, Bai Xin fell asleep quickly.

Cheng Jiqing held Bai Xin’s hand with one hand and checked her phone messages with the other. She first checked her texts, but there were no subsequent messages from Fu Rongjun.

Either it was because she had changed phones, or Fu Rongjun never intended to tell her anything—whether she was coming or not.

The latter seemed more in line with Fu Rongjun’s attitude toward her.

But it was also possible that Bai Zhaoliang had been pressuring her so urgently at the time that Fu Rongjun simply couldn’t spare a thought for her.

For now, she pushed aside these troublesome matters.

Around four in the afternoon, Bai Xin started running a slight fever.

But there was a two-hour livestream event at seven o’clock. The broadcast had been scheduled in advance, and Cheng Jiqing couldn’t affect the entire show for one person’s sake.

Cheng Jiqing went to discuss it with Director Yu Wei, saying she might need to leave for a few minutes in the middle of it.

Director Yu Wei heard this and said with a smile, “You could find someone to take care of her, so you don’t have to keep running back and forth.”

“No,” Cheng Jiqing said after a pause. “Don’t worry, I won’t affect the filming.”

Bai Xin was still sleeping now. If she woke up later to find a stranger by her side, her mood would definitely be terrible. Besides, she wasn’t comfortable leaving a stranger to watch over her during her feverish state.

Hearing this, Yu Wei hid a knowing look.

She didn’t know Cheng Jiqing’s identity at first, but when Bai Xin had been parachuted into the show, she had done a simple background check. The daughter of the Bai Corporation, with XM as her backer.

She was naturally aware that Qin Yufu was Bai Xin’s ex-wife.

She originally thought it was some kind of ex-wife-chasing-love drama, a built-in gimmick. But before the show even aired, someone had warned her not to use it as a gimmick.

While it was a pity, after the show started, she discovered that the sparks between those two were nothing compared to the ones they had with Cheng Jiqing.

Especially Cheng Jiqing and Bai Xin… Bai Xin’s eyes were almost always on Cheng Jiqing.

Yu Wei smiled and said no more.

Some things were best left understood. One shouldn’t know too much about the private affairs of capitalists.

Before the livestream began, Cheng Jiqing took Bai Xin’s temperature again. It hadn’t risen.

She left a glass of warm water and a note on the table.

Before leaving, she stood by the bed for a few seconds, then leaned over and kissed Bai Xin’s slightly warm forehead.

She left the bedside lamp on the other bed lit and quietly exited the room.

The live event was held in the living room. There was no specific script; everyone was allowed to improvise.

This made it quite relaxed. There would be small games involving sponsored products, and all the guests wore earpieces, waiting for the director’s instructions.

The sponsor Cheng Jiqing was in charge of was a brand of seasoning.

As it happened, she was thinking of making some pork rib congee for Bai Xin. While the others were chatting, she went to the peninsula counter and got two pots.

One clay pot, and one for stir-frying.

She could cook the congee and advertise at the same time.

“That smells so good, I’m getting hungry even though I’ve already eaten.”

Lu Xi said, walking over with a few others.

Cheng Jiqing said, “Then have some more later.”

She was stir-frying pickled cabbage with meat in the pan.

She was afraid Bai Xin would have no appetite with just congee, and this would help whet it.

Zhou-jie said, “Looks like we’re in for a late-night snack.”

Cheng Jiqing smiled. Hearing the director in her earpiece mention the sponsor, she complied, picking up the soy sauce bottle and pouring a little into the pan.

Her mind wasn’t really on the livestream. Bai Xin was alone in the room, and she didn’t know if she had woken up yet, or if she was still feeling unwell.

She would have to go up and check again in ten minutes to be at ease.

With several people around her, she kept the conversation going, chatting idly and laughing along.

In the live chat, some people were sharp-eyed.

‘Why does Chengcheng seem so distracted? Is she still upset about the Qi Xiaoran incident?’

‘I want to see my sister’s gorgeous face!!!’

‘Beautiful, rich, gentle, and witty, can act, and can even cook, the ultimate dreamboat Alpha in the human world…’

Lu Xi was holding her phone, which was displaying the livestream. She read these few comments out loud.

As she read, she marveled. 70% of the bullet comments were for Cheng Jiqing. This level of popularity could rival a top-tier celebrity in the entertainment industry.

Lu Xi said, “A netizen is asking, Chengcheng, where’s your roommate? I’ll answer for Chengcheng: Bai Xin isn’t feeling well and is resting upstairs.”

‘Teacher Lu, ask Chengcheng to say something.’

‘Wuwuwu, Chengcheng, say a few more words~’

Lu Xi made a face at the camera helplessly. “You women! When I first debuted, you used to call me your little sweetheart too!”

Everyone laughed at that. Zhou-jie teased, “You said it yourself, that was back then.”

Qin Yufu laughed alongside them. The atmosphere in the livestream was exceptionally comfortable.

Zhou-jie walked over, looked at the screen and read, “Chengcheng, someone is asking what kind of girl you like? They want you to describe her so they can get plastic surgery to match… Aiyo, girls, you must cherish yourselves. You look best just the way you are right now. Never change your appearance for anyone. Even if you do change, it must be for yourself.”

Cheng Jiqing washed the pan and agreed, “Zhou-jie is right. Girls must love themselves. You are the best.”

Zhou-jie said, “See? Your Chengcheng has spoken. You all have to listen.”

A wave of comments flooded the chat.

‘Okay, wifey~’

‘Okay, wifey~’

Zhou-jie wasn’t very familiar with this and laughed when she saw it. “Oh, oh, okay, they’re saying you still haven’t answered the previous question.”

What kind of girl do you like?

Bai Xin woke up in a muddle. Her head felt like it was filled with lead, her consciousness adrift.

The room was silent, the lighting dim and warm.

“Cheng Jiqing?”

She called out unconsciously. Her throat felt raw, and speaking was even more difficult than it had been during the day. When she got no response, she frowned.

Bai Xin sat up in bed. Staring at the empty room, a shallow panic welled up inside her, but then the feelings in her body told her that last night hadn’t been a dream.

Cheng Jiqing was already back by her side…

But she couldn’t see her. The unfamiliar room and her dizzy state made her feel irritable.

In the morning, Cheng Jiqing had promised she would see her when she woke up, but when she woke up, Cheng Jiqing wasn’t back. She had to go out and find her.

Now she was awake again, and Cheng Jiqing was still not here.

She was sick, and Cheng Jiqing wasn’t even here…

An omega in a feverish state is extremely sensitive, both physically and mentally.

Bai Xin sat quietly for half a minute, but the more she thought, the more frustrated and wronged she felt.

In the afternoon, she had asked Cheng Jiqing to sleep with her for a while, but Cheng Jiqing had refused. Even if she had to meet the director and had things to do, what was the harm in sleeping with her for a little while?

Or was it that Cheng Jiqing hadn’t really made up her mind yet?

As Bai Xin’s thoughts spiraled, her usual rationality and clarity vanished in her sickness, especially when it came to matters concerning Cheng Jiqing.

Her breathing became unsteady as she got out of bed. The severe dizziness made her stumble.

Her steps felt like she was walking on clouds. Just as she opened the door, she heard faint laughter from downstairs.

“Chengcheng, everyone is calling you wifey.”

“They’re asking who you’re sleeping with tonight?”

Bai Xin only heard those two sentences; she couldn’t register anything else.

Leaning on the handrail, Bai Xin descended the stairs step by step. Except for Cheng Jiqing at the peninsula counter, everyone else was sitting on the sofa, watching the live stream and chatting. No one noticed her coming down.

Bai Xin’s steps were so unsteady she nearly fell. She was incredibly dizzy, and incredibly angry.

Cheng Jiqing was obviously her wife.

What right did other people have to call her that?!

Who was she sleeping with? Who else could Cheng Jiqing possibly sleep with? Who else did she want to sleep with?! Don’t even think about it!

Bai Xin’s mind flashed back to her, sick upstairs, while Cheng Jiqing was downstairs laughing and chatting with these people, having a grand old time!

Bai Xin bit her lip, her forehead beaded with sweat. Her nose tingled, and a wave of stuffy anger surged up, making her feel even more dizzy.

Cheng Jiqing was standing by the clay pot, tending to the congee. She glanced at the time; it was perfect for her to bring a bowl up to Bai Xin. She was about to turn off the heat.

A shadow in her peripheral vision made her think it was one of the other guests. She turned her head.

Her gaze froze when she saw the person in a pink nightdress approaching.

“Why are you…”

Before she could finish her sentence, Bai Xin had already hugged her.

The omega’s soft body pressed tightly against her from the side and back.

Her five fingers slid up from her abdomen, coming to rest over her heart. The pressure, sometimes heavy, sometimes light, conveyed the person’s suppressed, sullen emotions.

That hoarse voice was almost inaudible, filled with endless grievance, on the verge of tears: “Wifey, you don’t want to sleep with me?”

The author has something to say:

Bai-jie’s style of grievance—fierce yet soft.
