My Pheromones, What Scent Are They?
The production team took the guests on a tour of Tromsø city.
Influenced by the North Atlantic Current, this city, despite its extremely high latitude, was the warmest among all the popular locations for chasing the aurora.
In the afternoon, clear sunlight scattered lazily across the fine white snow wrapped around the tops of the buildings.
Qi Song sat in a cable car overlooking the entire city, and a sense of familiarity once again welled up in her heart.
People’s feelings of déjà vu often last only for an instant, but this sense of familiarity of hers lingered. It was as if she had truly been here before and had left behind unforgettable memories.
“I just remembered…” the woman beside her suddenly said in a low voice, “a long time ago, you said you would bring me to Norway to have fun one day.”
Qi Song’s brow twitched slightly as she turned her head to look at Yu Luo.
“It’s been too long, we both forgot,” Yu Luo smiled lightly at her, “Now that the production team has arranged for us to be here, it can be considered a kind of different roads, same destination.”
After speaking, she continued to look out the cable car window, quietly gazing down at the clean and clear world of ice and snow below.
Although Yu Luo acted as if she didn’t care at all, even feeling gratified by this “different roads, same destination,” Qi Song’s heart wrinkled a little.
——She had once made a promise to Yu Luo, and then carelessly forgot it?
That couldn’t be possible.
Connecting this to the inexplicable sense of familiarity with this place, Qi Song felt as though she was faintly touching a corner of the truth, but she truly couldn’t remember anything.
She even felt that it might be a truth that not even Yu Luo knew.
As Yu Luo’s eyes curved into a slight smile and she turned her head to discuss the leisure and beauty of Tromsø city with her, Qi Song chose to temporarily press her thoughts back down.
It’s better to just immerse myself in the joy of the present moment. The answer was already waiting tomorrow, so why bother struggling to chase it now.
Besides the tourist attractions, the production team also led the guests to experience snowmobiling and reindeer sledding.
Although the reindeer were enormous, they had gentle temperaments.
After getting off the sleigh, Yu Luo walked closer to the reindeer that had just pulled them, somewhat curious.
A local staff member nearby said she could pet it, but not its antlers.
“I want to try,” Yu Luo said.
She took off the glove on her right hand. That hand was exposed to the cold air, and its fingertips quickly froze to a slight red.
Then, her fingers cautiously reached out.
Faced with this strange animal’s huge and sturdy body, she couldn’t help but hesitate. Just as she was about to touch it, the reindeer unexpectedly turned its head on its own, its cool fur touching her palm.
It rubbed against her once, then pressed close with docility.
Yu Luo paused slightly, then her heart warmed, and she couldn’t help but curve her lips into a smile.
She eagerly turned her head back to look at Qi Song, her beautiful eyes like the falling snow under the clear, warm sun nearby, distantly corresponding with a certain moment in some forgotten time.
As if eternal, along with the light.
Qi Song stared blankly, the fingers hanging by her side curling slightly, with difficulty suppressing the astringent feeling surging in her heart.
I feel like I’ve seen this scene before.
Dinner was arranged at a well-known restaurant that served a local reindeer specialty.
The guests took their seats in a private room. When asked if they wanted to try the reindeer dish, Yu Luo politely refused.
She slipped her slightly cool hand into Qi Song’s palm, letting her warm it up.
She couldn’t help but mutter, “To actually make them into a dish, reindeer are so cute…”
Qi Song held the woman’s hand tightly, unreservedly using her own body heat to warm the other’s, and asked softly, “How cute?”
Yu Luo said, “You saw it just now. I hadn’t even touched it, and it came to nuzzle against me on its own. It even rubbed my palm, so well-behaved…”
Her voice was clear and pleasant. When she spoke, her enunciation was always very distinct, her words correct and tune mellow1, and her pace was unhurried, making one feel as if they were in a spring breeze.
Qi Song watched her without blinking, listening intently as she recalled her feelings from a moment ago.
But Yu Luo gradually stopped, staring at Qi Song without speaking.
“Hm?” Qi Song blinked innocently.
“Your gaze is about to swallow me whole,” Yu Luo asked gently, “What’s wrong?”
Qi Song stiffened slightly.
After a few seconds of silence, she lowered her eyes and said, “I don’t know either… Maybe I just miss you too much.”
In Tromsø’s winter, the nights were always exceptionally long.
There was an aurora observation point near the resort with a wide field of view, surrounded by a boundless snowfield. People chasing the aurora pitched tents, waiting patiently.
The temperature was minus eight degrees Celsius. The guests, wrapped in thick down jackets, sat in a circle on the snow, chatting as they waited.
When the conversation turned to the topic of children’s education, Ren Zhi casually asked, “Is Taotao in kindergarten yet?”
“Not yet,” Yu Luo replied, “But it’s about time she went.”
Thinking of something, she turned her head and said softly to Qi Song, “Shall we pick a kindergarten for our cub together in a few days?”
Qi Song looked at her, taking a few seconds to react before nodding in agreement.
“In a few days….”
Qi Song couldn’t help but repeat the words.
Couldn’t help but look forward to those words.
The deeper into the night it got, the more solemn and cold the snowfield became.
It was long past her usual bedtime, and Taotao was sleeping soundly in Qi Song’s arms. The guests were no longer chatting; everyone had fallen somewhat silent during the long, endless wait.
Some of the passersby waiting for the aurora nearby had also left one after another, perhaps feeling that it wouldn’t appear tonight.
When Qi Song came back to her senses, she found that the surrounding guests and staff had all fallen asleep.
The woman leaning on her shoulder was also motionless; it was unclear if she had fallen asleep.
She tilted her head slightly and lightly touched Yu Luo’s head.
Yu Luo looked up at her, asking with her eyes what was wrong.
So she wasn’t asleep.
“It seems like it’s just the two of us left…” Qi Song said softly.
In the exceptionally cold and silent snowfield, the warm air from her words turned into a white mist by her lips, quickly dissipating without a trace.
Yu Luo hummed an “en,” “So?”
“Should we sneak a kiss,” the young woman said in a low voice, her eyes brightening.
In that bright light, Yu Luo ultimately didn’t have the heart to remind Qi Song that the camera nearby was still recording.
She smiled faintly and gave a soft “en.”
Qi Song slowly leaned in to kiss her, touching the other’s lips, which were cool and dry from the cold wind.
Usually when they kissed, she loved to close her eyes, to feel the entanglement of their lips and teeth with her whole being.
But today, she couldn’t bear to close her eyes. Coincidentally, neither could Yu Luo.
And so, the woman’s eyes, close at hand, met hers.
That beautiful curve, the thick lashes that trembled slightly when they kissed, the pupils as deep and enchanting as obsidian.
When they misted over from the kiss, they were exceptionally pure and boundlessly gentle.
Qi Song was mesmerized, almost about to drown in the other’s eyes. Her breathing thus grew heavy, her chest pounded, and her vision unconsciously blurred.
And through that haze, she saw a faint light suddenly appear in Yu Luo’s eyes, which then immediately became splendid and bright, the colors bursting forth, swaying, blooming, like a dream, like an illusion——
It was the aurora.
Qi Song’s breath trembled, and her heart abruptly skipped a beat.
Yu Luo realized it too and instantly looked up at the sky in pleasant surprise.
A satin ribbon woven from flowing light swam lightly across the night sky, brilliant and dazzling. It changed wantonly, seemingly untouchable yet everywhere at once, simultaneously writing of the ephemeral and the eternal.
The passersby camped not far away were all cheering, and the guests and staff woke up one after another.
But as everyone looked towards the sky, Qi Song looked only at Yu Luo.
The dreamlike light and shadow brushed across the woman’s face, outlining her coolly elegant, otherworldly silhouette, making it ethereal and hazy, like the descent of a goddess.
“…Jiejie.”
Qi Song’s heart began to tremble.
I feel like… I’ve knelt on one knee in a scene just like this before.
At three in the morning, the guests returned, exhausted, to their lodgings at the resort.
Taotao was extremely sleepy; after wiping her face, she climbed directly into bed to sleep.
Yu Luo grabbed her clothes and, seeing Qi Song seemingly lost in thought, reached out and gently poked her cheek, “Going to take a shower?”
Qi Song came back to her senses, turned her head and kissed her fingertips, “You go first.”
“Okay.” Yu Luo thought she was still caught up in the shock of seeing the aurora just now, and without thinking much of it, gently stroked her head and turned to go to the bathroom to shower.
Qi Song squatted down against the bathroom door, staring blankly out the window.
The aurora was gone, leaving only darkness in the sky.
Her mind was in a trance, her thoughts blank. She could only focus her attention on the matter of waiting for Yu Luo.
Time seemed to become tangible because of this, flowing with every beat of her pulse. A long time passed, but the person in the bathroom still hadn’t come out.
Qi Song’s brow furrowed.
Just as she was about to knock on the door to ask about the situation, she felt the phone in her pocket suddenly vibrate. Taking it out as if she had a premonition, she indeed saw that the caller ID was Yu Luo.
She pressed her lips together and answered the call.
“My heat period suddenly came. Can you, come into the bath—… Can you go to the suitcase and get me a suppressant?”
The woman’s breathing was slightly heavy, and she enunciated her words with a slight weight, as if she were enduring something.
Qi Song’s fingertips tightened on the edge of the phone as she said softly, “Okay, don’t be scared, I’ll get it for you right away.”
She hurried to the suitcase to get an Omega suppressant.
Worried that Yu Luo needed it urgently, she quickly tore open the suppressant’s packaging while rushing back to the bathroom door. Touching the cool tube, Qi Song suddenly recalled the last time Yu Luo’s heat period had suddenly arrived; she had also fetched a suppressant for Yu Luo just like this.
She remembered that last time, Yu Luo had taken a long time to inject it, and when the bathroom door opened again, the woman had been so weak it was as if she had suffered a great ordeal.
She also remembered the sense of resistance that would always well up in her heart whenever she saw Yu Luo’s suppressant.
Qi Song suddenly had an inexplicable, strong impulse to stop Yu Luo.
——Don’t inject it.
But for what reason?
Knock knock. She knocked on the bathroom door against her will.
The bathroom door opened a small crack. A slender white hand reached out from inside, its skin moist, its fingertips flushed red.
Just like last time, Yu Luo quickly took the suppressant and then hurriedly closed the door——
But in the second before it closed, her movement subtly froze for a moment, as if she were struggling with something.
The door ultimately still closed.
Yu Luo stared at the suppressant lying in her palm.
For a long time now, her dignity had been maintained by this.
The pale cyan liquid swayed gently in the vial, and under the cool lighting of the bathroom, it showed a deep chill.
She removed the needle cap, pressed lightly on the other end of the syringe, and a drop of liquid overflowed from the tip.
A faint fragrance drifted out with the liquid, exactly the same as the “pheromone” scent she usually had on her.
“…Do you like this scent?” Yu Luo muttered to herself in a daze.
She looked up at herself in the mirror. The woman’s eyes were unfocused, as if recalling many unbearable moments from the past.
And because of this, they began to redden.
After a moment of silence, she forcibly suppressed the fluctuations in her heart amidst slightly heavy breathing. As usual, she skillfully placed the needle tip against her already feverish glands, attempting to press down——
That familiar stinging sensation had already been transmitted through her skin to her brain.
Her thumb trembled slightly. She clearly needed the suppressant’s help, yet she couldn’t press it down for the longest time.
There’s no more time to escape…
In the instant before injecting, Yu Luo suddenly pulled the suppressant away and tossed it onto the sink counter.
Her chest heaved heavily. She bit her lip, as if she had made a decision.
Stumbling a few steps to the bathroom door, she grasped the handle, pressed down, and pushed it open.
The young woman was standing at the door, lost in thought, like a solitary tree keeping watch, letting its leaves silently wither in the flow of time.
But the next second, she saw her.
And so that tree was finally bathed in sunlight and rain, watered, nourished, its listlessness fading, its branches stretching out vigorously.
“Jiejie…”
Qi Song’s words were cut off unexpectedly.
It was Yu Luo who raised a hand and used all her strength to pull her into the bathroom.
The woman’s face was flushed, her breathing difficult to suppress. Even so, the faint fragrance of her pheromones remained as stable as ever, low in concentration and light.
“No suppressant this time…” her hand was still clutching the corner of her clothes, her lashes slightly lowered as she said in a hoarse voice, “Will you mark me, please?”
For a moment, joy might have rippled through Qi Song’s heart, an irrepressible psychological impulse born of physiological instinct.
But immediately following was a boundless pain that completely devoured that bit of joy.
She knew Yu Luo was scared, and she also knew…
——“Anyway, before the variety show ends, I have to let you mark me…”
That night, Yu Luo had accidentally said this in a daze.
So, the variety show was ending tomorrow, and everything happening now was a reluctant necessity to complete some task?
At this thought, Qi Song’s chest tightened.
A silence fell over the bathroom. Yu Luo was about to break, biting her lip so hard it was about to bleed.
A deep, watery light shimmered in her eyes, but she deliberately put on a coquettish tone, “Getting a shot hurts… I don’t want to get another one.”
After speaking, her right hand lifted her long, dark curly hair, revealing the fair and fragile nape of her neck, the corners of her eyes flushed with a charming red, “Mark me…”
She said those two words with overflowing allure.
Qi Song’s gaze fell on the magnificent pink on the woman’s nape.
For Qi Song, every inch was unavoidably fatal and seductive.
Bite, invade, inject—these instinctual actions had already begun to uncontrollably dominate the Alpha’s mind, turning into impulses that crashed against her chest.
But Qi Song’s lips were pressed tightly together.
She reached out and took Yu Luo’s left hand.
Yu Luo shuddered, and without a word, she tried to pull away, almost in a panic, but Qi Song chased after it, heedless and inconsiderate.
With the Omega weakened by the heat period, Qi Song easily subdued her.
Her breath trembling, she opened the woman’s left palm and saw that her fingertips had dug wounds there, already bleeding——it was from being too nervous.
On the first day of their reunion, Yu Luo had also become this nervous after seeing her being violently pursued by debt collectors.
“Do I… have to be marked?”
Qi Song’s eyes were seared by the sight of that bright red blood, and they instantly filled with hot tears, her entire heart trembling.
Yu Luo pulled her hand back, her fingertips curling. She couldn’t bear to look at Qi Song, so she turned around.
“Be good,” Yu Luo said, her voice trembling, “I can’t hold on much longer.”
“…” Qi Song’s face turned pale.
But she had always, always listened to Yu Luo.
Qi Song took a deep breath, raised a hand to randomly wipe away her tears, and forced herself to suppress all the surging emotions in her heart.
She carefully lifted Yu Luo’s dark hair, her lips gently pressing against the warmth of the woman’s nape.
Because of the heat period, because of the absence of the suppressant’s effect, this place was hotter, softer than usual, exuding a fatal attraction.
She slowly parted her lips, the tips of her teeth touching the thin, tender skin.
The blood flowed there, full of life in its vigorous pulse.
The body in her arms was trembling nonstop, so nervous that a few low whimpers escaped her throat, and it seemed even the strands of her hair were swaying in some kind of fear.
Qi Song’s lips and teeth trembled because of this. She tightened her embrace, trying her best to give the other a sense of security with her own warmth.
She bit down gently, with a reverence that was almost worship.
“Ngh…” Whether it was from physical or psychological pain, Yu Luo let out a pitifully low hum.
Qi Song squeezed her eyes shut, trying to harden her heart, and slowly injected her own pheromones.
The consistently stable, faint fragrance on the woman’s neck seemed to be a line of defense, which was quietly shattering amidst this invasion.
Gradually, a strange pheromone scent began to linger, spreading softly through the air.
As crisp and rich as a flower blooming in the snow.
And like the falling snow itself, pure and bright.
As if born to be captivated by this scent, Qi Song was dizzy and intoxicated by it.
The person in her arms was trembling, and when she spoke, her hoarse, tearful voice was exceptionally pitiful, tinged with a certain carefulness, “…My pheromones, what scent are they?”
Qi Song’s lips parted, wanting to answer.
But in that instant, her consciousness blurred, and everything before her suddenly drifted away.
As that intoxicating pheromone scent broke through the original stable, faint fragrance and rushed into her nose, a shackle in her mind seemed to be brutally broken at the same time, and countless images instantly surged unbound in her mind.
First, they churned and overturned recklessly, bringing an intense, unbearable pain, stirring up a turbid and hazy mist. After an unknown amount of time, the mist gradually dispersed, and it was as if the colors pierced through and the regions became clear2.
All memories returned to their places one by one…
Qi Song remembered.
The author has something to say:
The next chapter will start writing about the past. Dual perspective, it probably won’t be too long. Actually, this past is also the original reason why I wanted to write this book and choose the ABO genre~
