The Favorite Day.
“Mommy, Mama?”
Taotao knocked on the bathroom door.
Hot water flowed down the skin of her cheeks, and in the haze, hearing her daughter’s voice, Yu Luo trembled all over.
Qi Song turned off the spray, soothingly gave her cheek a light kiss, and tilted her head to raise her voice in response: “What is it, zaizai?”
From outside the bathroom door came a faint, soft, and sweet voice: “Someone is knocking on the door asking if they should serve the food, Mommy said I can’t randomly open the door for people……”
“You tell the staff member that they can serve the food, we will be out right away.”
Taotao responded with an affirmation.
Qi Song turned her head, her gaze falling back on the woman nestled in her arms, still panting unbearably.
“Let’s finish washing quickly and go out……” Yu Luo gave her a little push, her voice containing the hoarseness from the recent afterglow.
Although this time had only just begun, ending suddenly would feel a bit incomplete, but in any case, there was no time to continue.
Yu Luo suppressed that craving, and was just about to unhook her legs from Qi Song’s waist to stand on the floor. However, Qi Song suddenly jolted her upwards, holding her even tighter.
Suspended and pressed against the damp wall of the shower, the slow and patient pleasing from before was no more. The movements were fast and precise, the technique tricky, directly hitting the key points.
In less than three minutes, Yu Luo’s whole body sank into a relaxed tremor.
She looked at Qi Song with tear-filled eyes, and in her weakness, could only let this person meticulously and neatly help her get cleaned up.
Qi Song lowered her head to tie the sash of Yu Luo’s bathrobe; the woman before her had a crimson face, her brows and eyes holding the sentiment of spring1.
The epitome of charm, yet her gaze was unnatural. As if there was some kind of awkwardness in her heart, she wanted to speak but then stopped.
Although she was well aware of this2, Qi Song still couldn’t resist teasing her. She deliberately moved closer, her nose touching hers, and asked: “What is it, Jiejie? I feel you have something to say.”
Yu Luo bit her lip, turned her head, somewhat unwilling to look at her.
In the brief silence, the young woman’s watching gaze was relentless.
After a few seconds, Yu Luo finally spoke: “Just now I, hmm, it’s not……”
She couldn’t say the words clearly; after trying, she was still vague.
Qi Song considerately spelled it out directly: “I know. It’s not that Jiejie was too fast, it’s that the situation was urgent.”
“……” Yu Luo’s eyelashes fluttered lightly, and she pushed her away to turn and leave.
“It’s my fault.”
Qi Song hugged her from behind, chuckling softly as she coaxed in a gentle voice: “It was me who deliberately used technique, I’m sorry.”
Yu Luo was silent for a moment, then let out a light hmph, and muttered with little confidence: “It’s good that you know.”
Qi Song touched her head with her forehead, unable to stop laughing, “Why is Jiejie so cute?”
After speaking, she snuggled and nuzzled from behind Yu Luo to her front, then lowered her head and gave the person a peck of a kiss.
The 「jiu」3 sound was a bit loud.
In her puppy-like enthusiastic coaxing, the bit of embarrassed gloom in Yu Luo’s heart gradually dissipated.
She couldn’t help but curve her lips up as well, “Alright, it’s time to go out.”
She pressed down the door handle, and just as she was about to exit, she heard the young woman sigh softly behind her: “I’m so happy.”
Her mood became even more light and joyful because of this sentence, and Yu Luo asked in a soft voice: “Why?”
Qi Song said: “Because I feel that you are very happy right now.”
Even though she still didn’t know the specific reason why Yu Luo was unhappy just now. But sensing that Yu Luo’s mood had improved seemed to be a sufficiently blissful thing for her.
Yu Luo blinked gently, an endless tenderness rippling in her eyes.
“Idiot.” She said in a small voice.
This variety show was recording for a total of two installments; one installment at the beach, and the other on a cruise ship.
After the beach installment was finished recording, considering that the guests had done outdoor sports for two consecutive days and it was a bit strenuous, the program team arranged for everyone to have a SPA at the hotel.
“It feels like I haven’t exercised like this since giving birth. Beach volleyball, and also running……”
Xiao Hua lay prone on the bed, feeling the pressure of the massage on her back, and sighed:
“Ever since giving birth to my cub, my physical strength has gotten worse, and my physical condition is not as good as before.”
The SPA massage rooms were separated by gender; this room only had the three female Omega guests from the show.
After three installments of the variety show had been recorded, everyone had become much more familiar. Plus, with no cameras filming, Xiao Hua spoke more casually:
“The birth rate is low now, the whole world urges people to have children, but never mentions the specific costs and hardships involved.”
Jiang Yin, who was usually shy and spoke little, couldn’t help but nod upon chatting about this topic, and said with some helplessness: “Some of the negative postpartum symptoms I had, I still have them now.”
The two of them started chatting about the aftereffects.
Yu Luo kept her eyes closed during the massage, listening to them speak in silence.
“Teacher Yu.”
Xiao Hua suddenly called out to her, Yu Luo’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and her breathing quietly hitched for a moment.
“Does Teacher Yu have any postpartum symptoms?” Xiao Hua asked curiously.
“……” Yu Luo pursed her lips, and said unhurriedly, “Similar to you all.”
“I can’t tell at all.” Xiao Hua said with envy, “I feel like Teacher Yu’s condition has always been very good.”
She and Yu Luo had met at some events in the past few years, and her deepest impression was of their first meeting.
It was a large-scale dinner banquet in the industry circle. Yu Luo, in a haute couture4 long dress, was slender and graceful, and between her glances, her elegant demeanor was peerless5.
After seeing Yu Luo in person and communicating face-to-face, Xiao Hua was secretly amazed for a long time.
But looking back now, that dinner banquet was around the time not long after Taotao was born.
To think she had already recovered to that extent.
After hearing what Xiao Hua said, Yu Luo gave a faint smile and did not say much more.
“Speaking of which, were your daughters fussy when they were just born.”
Xiao Hua recalled: “My child was not well-behaved even when she was in my belly, and in the period right after she was born she was even more of a handful, often crying in the middle of the night. Weaning was also not easy later on.”
Jiang Yin said softly: “Youyou has been especially quiet and well-behaved since birth, she didn’t fuss much with us. At first, we were even worried she was a bit autistic.”
Yu Luo listened silently, a bit of depth in her slightly lowered eyes, surging with emotions that seemed to be envy, or perhaps loss.
“What about Taotao?”
The topic turned to herself again.
After a brief silence, she said softly: “……Taotao has always been very good.”
Another short answer.
Yu Luo’s temperament was usually rather distant and cold, so it was quite normal for her not to be very enthusiastic in conversation; Xiao Hua didn’t mind.
After coming out of the massage room, Yu Luo saw Qi Song standing in the corridor waiting for her.
“Jiejie.”
Qi Song reached out her hand to take hers, skillfully interlocking their fingers.
“It seems there are still some other massage services, are you planning to go?”
Yu Luo shook her head, leaning her head into the crook of her neck, and answered: “I don’t want to go.”
“Qi Song.” She said softly, “I miss zaizai a little.”
“Then let’s go get her.”
Qi Song led her towards the children’s exclusive SPA area. Taotao happened to be walking out of the door hand in hand with Youyou, with the other two children also behind them.
Seeing Yu Luo and Qi Song ahead, her eyes lit up. She immediately let go of Youyou’s hand, trotted over, and reached out to hug both of their legs.
“Mommy, Mama!”
Yu Luo bent down to pick her up and kissed her cheek.
“How did it feel just now?” She asked gently.
“I liked it.” Taotao nestled comfortably in Mommy’s arms, sharing what she did just now in a milky voice.
She felt that Mommy was holding her tighter than usual.
“Mommy……” She vaguely sensed something in her heart, but couldn’t quite figure it out.
In the end, she just instinctively comforted Yu Luo. She hugged back tightly and pecked Mommy’s cheek, “I love Mommy the most.”
At Taotao’s sudden expression, Yu Luo was slightly taken aback. Then, a certain soft meaning instantly appeared in her gaze.
The corners of her lips pulled into a smile, “You really are……”
You really are Qi Song’s child.
These two people both have a kind of natural intuition for her emotions, and both will instinctively, somewhat clumsily yet exceptionally sincerely, comfort her.
And it is the existence of these two people that has added a deep and heavy love to her barren and unbearable life.
It is difficult to put this happiness into words, as well as the insecurity that follows it like a shadow, the worry that this happiness will one day turn into a bubble and burst.
She held her cub, leaned into Qi Song’s arms, and amidst the rising and falling tide of her heart, she deliberately said in a small, aggrieved voice: “The cub kissed me, you didn’t.”
Qi Song’s heart softened, and just as she was about to lower her head, the figures of Ren Zhi and Jiang Yin suddenly appeared around the corner in her peripheral vision. They were probably coming to pick up Youyou.
And the woman who had been softly acting spoiled in her arms just a moment ago instantly stood up straight, her temperament cool and dignified, reserved and politely responding to Ren Zhi’s greeting.
It was simply retracting and releasing with ease.
Qi Song lowered her eyelashes, hiding her smile. And she felt a pure sweetness in the stark contrast between how Yu Luo was with her and how she was with outsiders.
Yu Luo turned her head to look at Qi Song, and sure enough, caught this person suppressing a laugh. She shot the other person a reproachful glance, and consequently saw the young woman’s exceptionally well-behaved and docile expression.
She couldn’t help but gently curve her lips.
She suddenly discovered that these tiny details of interaction that belonged only to them were just as comforting as a kiss.
Overly real and concrete, thereby filling that bit of emptiness that occasionally welled up in her heart.
“In the past two days of recording, the parents and babies have all worked hard. The next two days will be a pleasant cruise trip, with no tasks and no restrictions, to record every happy and joyful moment of each family. We hope everyone has a pleasant journey-”
The fourth installment of the program was recorded on a cruise ship. This cruise ship was the private property of the rich woman among the guests.
At this moment, the cruise ship had been cleared; apart from the staff, there were no other guests, allowing the guests to play more relaxedly and freely.
As the hosts, Xiao Hua and the rich woman showed everyone around the various basic facilities on the cruise ship.
“We will set sail from the coast of D City, and travel in the Xia Sea6 area…… At night, we can also hold a ball in the main hall……”
After listening to the introduction, Qi Song heard Yu Luo say in a low voice: “So this cruise ship belongs to Miss Lin.”
She was slightly taken aback. Could it be that Yu Luo had been on this cruise ship before?
“Thinking back to when we were on this cruise ship that year, we also participated in the masquerade ball at night.”
Yu Luo’s gaze held a bit of nostalgia, and she smiled gently: “That day is my favorite day in my memories.”
They had a passionate entanglement on the giant rock, and then boarded the cruise ship in the brisk evening wind, just in time for the midnight-slot masquerade ball.
Couldn’t be more free and unrestrained, couldn’t be happier.
Hearing this, Qi Song looked up with some anticipation and scanned her surroundings carefully, yet the decor that met her eyes was all unfamiliar.
She couldn’t help but feel wistful. She had actually dared to forget the day between them that Yu Luo loved the most.
As if knowing her mood, Yu Luo’s eyes and brows curved, and she turned her head to say gently to her, “It’s so good that you are still by my side now.”
This was already very satisfying.
In the woman’s bright and vivid smile that was like a spring breeze, Qi Song gently pursed her lips, feeling the gloom in her heart being gradually swept away.
They could go to the giant rock again, and they could attend a ball again. That day could not be returned to, but the present was a happiness that could be grasped and enjoyed.
“Mommy, can I go sleepy-sleep?”
Taotao rubbed her face and let out a sleepy yawn.
She didn’t sleep very well last night.
Usually, she slept by herself to the side, while Mommy and Mama held each other to sleep.
But last night, Mommy was suddenly very clingy with her and wanted to hold her to sleep. So Mama held both of them in her arms.
At first, it was warm and comfortable.
Unfortunately, Mommy and Mama habitually held each other in the middle of the night, and she was squeezed in the middle like a dumpling, becoming a soft candy filling with nothing in life worth being attached to7.
Worried about waking Mama and Mommy, she didn’t make a peep, and pitifully endured the night half-asleep and half-awake.
Yu Luo was completely unaware of last night, only thinking that her cub was fond of sleeping, and lowered her head to say to Taotao: “Mommy will take you to sleep now.”
Just then, Xiao Hua had already led everyone to the rooms for the night’s accommodation.
“These cabins are the most luxurious bedrooms on the cruise ship, everyone can freely choose one to check into.”
Qi Song’s gaze swept over those rooms. They were all clearly unfamiliar, but then under some kind of strong intuition, she pointed to a room on the right and asked Yu Luo: “Jiejie, how about we stay here?”
Yu Luo looked in the direction of her finger and couldn’t help but curve her lips, “Okay, the same room as last time.”
Qi Song couldn’t help but smile along with her.
In that instant, she suddenly felt that perhaps she hadn’t actually forgotten anything at all. Those memories were only temporarily sealed away, seeping into her every instinct and intuition.
This realization made her incredibly joyful.
So after entering the room and waiting for Taotao to fall asleep on the bed, she couldn’t resist leading Yu Luo to the bathroom where there were no cameras.
She reached out and lifted Yu Luo to sit on the washstand, then raised her head to kiss the woman’s lips.
The exquisite and special decor of the bathroom was in her peripheral vision, and Yu Luo’s beautiful eyes, misty from the kiss, landed in her line of sight.
This scene was overly similar, and a wave of pain suddenly surged in her mind, a memory surfacing—
In the same cabin, the same bathroom. A few years younger, she had lifted Yu Luo to sit on the washstand, in the same posture, raising her head to lingeringly caress the woman’s crimson lips.
“Jiejie, can we come again next autumn? Today was too blissful, the thought of us having to go our separate ways8 tomorrow morning makes me feel so reluctant to part……”
Yu Luo’s hand rested on her shoulder, and between pants, she promised: “Mm, then let’s come again next autumn.”
Their lips parted, and she closed her eyes to rest in the crook of Qi Song’s neck.
She murmured with a light laugh: “I really like today so much. I even feel that by guarding this memory, I can endure a very long wait.”
—At that time, the 「wait」 they spoke of only referred to the days and nights when they were temporarily unable to meet while each was busy with work. That 「next autumn」 was also so easily obtainable9, the promise set not far in the future, brewing an endless anticipation in the passage of time.
But later, the content of the wait became unpredictable, and the happiness of that 「next autumn」 also failed to arrive as promised.
They had gone their separate ways before then.
Thinking of this, Qi Song’s heart surged with emotion, and she kissed even more deeply and heavily. As if wanting to chase back those years in this belated keeping of the appointment.
“Jiejie……” She murmured, unable to control herself, the tip of her nose turning sour.
Her cheeks were overly wet, and she slowly opened her eyes to see that Yu Luo had also, at some unknown point, shed clear tears.
Yu Luo did not mention the promise, nor did she mention what came after. She just quietly, in the fulfillment of the promise that came about through a bizarre twist of fate10, felt a dazed sense of happiness.
Realizing this, the rise and fall of Qi Song’s chest became even more intense.
She gently kissed away the tears from the corner of Yu Luo’s eyes and said cautiously: “Jiejie, let’s walk around here more……”
I so want to tell you, that day you like the most, I am starting to remember it, bit by bit.
For this, I want to try even harder.
