Tsk, how fierce.
Looking at that three million, Qi Song felt as if she were a canary1 being kept by her patron2, Yu Luo.
The act of calling her had pleased her patron, and so she had received such a handsome reward.
As for her hanging up on Yu Luo?
That was just the canary playfully scratching its patron, a painless, trivial act. In fact, this kind of occasional, silent, and feeble resistance might even make the patron all the more intrigued.
As Qi Song thought about this, she could feel goosebumps rising on her skin.
She shook off the “patron and canary” dynamic, trying hard to convince herself: her relationship with Yu Luo was a proper collaboration, an exchange of equals.
Qi Song paid the water and electricity bills, then had a new door installed for her rented apartment. She also paid off the two most urgent debts, leaving the rest of the money as a reserve.
Next, it was time to pack her luggage—
Yu Luo had said she would come to pick her up in the morning, which clearly meant that starting tomorrow, she had to move into Yu Luo’s house as per the agreement.
Right, move in. Not marry in3.
Qi Song’s brows furrowed, stung by the word.
Perhaps it was the jarring contrast of going from a major celebrity to someone living off a woman4 that made her keep thinking of these strange terms.
The original owner of this body had been too poor; the room contained only some basic necessities, all of which were nearly used up.
As Qi Song was packing, her gaze fell upon a Polaroid on the desk.
Beyond the floor-to-ceiling window, a boundless blue sea sparkled under the brilliant sun.
In front of the window, two beautiful young women sat in an embrace, looking into each other’s eyes, their noses touching, the corners of their lips curved into smiles.
Anyone could see how sweet, how blissful and free this couple had once been.
Looking at the original owner and Yu Luo in the photo, a strange, dark tide of emotion surged in Qi Song’s heart.
But when she tried to savor it more closely, it was gone.
At nine in the morning, Qi Song emerged from the building, punctually dragging her suitcase behind her.
A black luxury car was waiting not far away.
After placing her luggage in the trunk, Qi Song had just settled into the back seat when she saw Taotao beaming at her with childlike innocence. “Good morning, Mama!”
Her heart trembled.
Having Taotao call her “Mama” was part of the agreement, to prevent the child from calling her by the wrong name on the show out of habit.
Still, becoming a mother painlessly at only 24 years old was something no one could be completely calm about.
She took a few seconds to adjust, then smiled gently at Taotao. “Good morning, Taotao.”
Qi Song controlled her gaze, avoiding looking at a certain Omega who sat beside Taotao, staring at her.
But that person’s presence was too strong, dazzling even in her peripheral vision.
The young woman in the driver’s seat also turned to look back, her eyes filled with what seemed to be a mix of awe and curiosity.
“Hello, I’m Yu-jie’s assistant, Xiao Zhang5.”
Qi Song gave a polite nod and greeted her.
Having been Yu Luo’s assistant for two years, Xiao Zhang knew better than anyone how pure-hearted and devoid of worldly desires her boss was.
Besides work, there wasn’t even the shadow of an Alpha around her. She didn’t even want to have a child with someone else; rumor was, she had the baby via IVF on her own.
She was a completely unapproachable flower on a high peak6.
And yet, today, her boss had brought her daughter to such a dilapidated building, all to pick up an Alpha to live at home, and was even going to appear on a parenting show7 with her.
Xiao Zhang recognized the Alpha at a glance as the TV Queen8 who had been wildly popular for a time. She had seen some tragic news online and knew that this person’s luck was terrible; after a series of stumbles, her career had flopped through the earth’s core9.
Could it be that her boss cherishes talent and wants to give her a boost?
Xiao Zhang nodded, affirming her own speculation. It couldn’t possibly be for her looks.
As she drove, she heard Taotao’s chattering questions from the back seat:
“What’s the relationship between Mommy and Mama?”
Xiao Zhang’s ears perked up.
“Do you remember Youzi’s mommy and mama?”
Yu Luo reached out to stroke Taotao’s head, her smile radiant. “We’re the same as them.”
“Oh!” Taotao was extremely smart. “You’ll kiss and hug!”
Qi Song: “……”
She had been planning to ask Yu Luo how she intended to explain her existence. It now seemed Yu Luo wanted Taotao to believe she was her biological mother.
Isn’t she worried that Taotao will be sad when the three-month contract ends?
Moreover, this also proves that Taotao isn’t familiar with, or perhaps doesn’t even know, her real Alpha mother.
While lost in thought, Qi Song heard Yu Luo reply to Taotao, “That’s right, we’ll kiss and hug.”
After saying that, Yu Luo’s gaze shot straight toward her.
Qi Song averted her eyes and turned her head to look out the car window.
They were at a red light. From the rearview mirror, Xiao Zhang saw her ice-queen Film Empress10 boss actually smiling at that Alpha as gently as water. But the Alpha didn’t appreciate it, even turning her head away.
“……”
Xiao Zhang was so shocked she forgot the light had turned green. It wasn’t until the car behind them honked that she snapped back to her senses.
The car drove into a villa district with a unique and beautiful landscape.
The villas here were spaced far apart, providing the residents with an ample sense of privacy.
Yu Luo led Qi Song all the way into a room with an open view and exquisite decor.
“You’ll sleep here tonight.”
Qi Song surveyed her surroundings, her hand tightening on the handle of her suitcase as she looked at Yu Luo warily. “This is the master bedroom.”
Yu Luo blinked her bright eyes at her but didn’t speak.
It was as if she was saying: Of course I know this is the master bedroom.
Since she was playing dumb, Qi Song spoke bluntly. “The agreement only said we’d play wives on the show. It didn’t say we had to share a room in private, did it?”
“Mm,” Yu Luo’s lips curled into a calm smile. “That’s correct.”
“But, Miss Qi, I trust our acting skills, but I don’t trust our instincts.”
Yu Luo explained reasonably, “If we don’t seriously simulate it and get used to that blissful atmosphere beforehand, what if we slip up on the show?”
Whether it was a natural, sweet embrace upon waking up, or Taotao’s closeness and dependence, these weren’t things that could be controlled by acting at every single moment.
Qi Song knew Yu Luo had a point.
But this Omega could have just directly proposed the idea of a “preliminary simulation.” Instead, she brought her to the master bedroom without a word.
She was clearly trying to test her bottom line, maybe even testing whether any old feelings remained in her heart.
She’s practically got a belly full of dark schemes11.
Qi Song felt fortunate that she wasn’t the original owner with her love-addled brain12; otherwise, she would have stumbled right into the trap.
Her guard rose higher, but she didn’t expose her on the surface, merely nodding and saying in a flat tone, “Alright, I can cooperate with this simulation before the show.”
Such a business-like, emotionless reply.
Yet, for some reason, Yu Luo seemed to have a screw loose. She stared at her intently for a moment before a smile bloomed on her transcendent face.
“You look quite good with a cold expression.”
Qi Song: “……”
That makes sense. The original owner loved her so much, she probably was never willing to give her the cold shoulder.
As Qi Song thought this, her face grew even colder.
When that brilliantly beautiful face took on a cold expression, it created a strong sense of distance, and even a hint of aggression.
Yu Luo’s gaze lingered on it, and a soft laugh suddenly escaped her throat.
“Fine, I’ll stop teasing you.”
She lowered her eyes and sighed softly. “It’s making my legs go weak.”
With that, she turned and left the room.
?
What ‘legs go weak’?
Qi Song closed her eyes, becoming increasingly aware of how high-level this scum woman’s game was.
She built the barrier of vigilance against Yu Luo in her heart even stronger and quickly finished unpacking.
When she came out, she saw Yu Luo standing in the kitchen in front of a pile of fresh ingredients.
“Is it convenient for you to cook tonight?” Yu Luo looked over, gesturing at the ingredients.
After a pause, she said softly, “I want to eat your cooking.”
Qi Song stood rooted to the spot for two seconds, then suddenly smiled, a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
Whether it was the teasing words in the room just now or this ambiguous statement at this moment, it all indicated that this Omega, apart from the collaboration itself, harbored some other ulterior motives toward her.
She walked over in a few steps and said indifferently, “Miss Yu, have you gotten something wrong? I didn’t sign a nanny agreement, nor do I have any obligation to satisfy your personal needs.”
Yu Luo stared at her, slightly stunned.
Qi Song calmly observed her expression.
This person is a high-and-mighty Film Empress, probably always coddled and protected. She likely thinks her ex-girlfriend is a plaything she can summon or dismiss at will, with no need for boundaries, someone she can beckon with a finger like teasing a small animal.
Now that she’s been rejected like this, will Yu Luo be shamed into anger? Or will she hide her displeasure but use that one hundred million to threaten her with veiled words?
Just as Qi Song was speculating, she saw a smile slowly blossom on the Omega’s cool and elegant face, like the fragrant rustling of pear blossoms.
“If you don’t want to cook, then don’t.”
Yu Luo’s voice was light and gentle, even sounding a bit indulgent. “Then I’ll cook for you. What would you like to eat?”
Qi Song’s eyelashes trembled.
Seeing her silence, Yu Luo tilted her head and smiled. “Then I’ll just make what you used to like to eat.”
Qi Song realized the woman wasn’t just saying it. She really turned around and started looking for an apron, tying it on herself with unhurried movements.
She even shooed her away. “Go play with Taotao. Get more familiar with her.”
“……” Qi Song walked away without looking back.
Does she think I’ll be struck by my conscience and offer to stay and help?
No, you don’t need a conscience when dealing with a scum woman.
Qi Song found Taotao and joined her on the living room carpet to build with blocks.
Whatever entanglements the adults had, the child was innocent, after all. She didn’t dislike Taotao. Besides, the kid was adorable.
Taotao was very smart and had excellent motor skills.
With Qi Song’s help, Taotao easily built the complex model from the diagram. Her eyes sparkled as she exclaimed, “Mama is so amazing!”
Her two little white hands clapped together, making pat-pat sounds.
Taotao seemed to really like her, acting very affectionate despite having just met.
Qi Song’s lips were initially curved in a smile, but seeing those small hands clapping joyfully reminded her that Yu Luo had an injury on her left palm.
The wound looked so gruesome yesterday, and she can cook today?
Her smile faded.
After continuing to play with Taotao’s blocks for a while longer, Qi Song’s mind was elsewhere.
After finishing a model, she whispered a suggestion to Taotao. “Taotao, can you play by yourself for a little while? I need to go to the kitchen to help Mommy.”
Taotao tilted her head. “Mommy is cooking?”
Qi Song saw the surprise on her face.
So Yu Luo never usually cooks? Then why is she in the kitchen today?
Seeing that Taotao wanted to follow, she coaxed her to stay by saying the kitchen was full of cooking fumes, then got up and walked toward the kitchen.
Before she even entered, she saw Yu Luo’s injured left hand was covered with a rubber glove as she washed vegetables.
Probably because her movements would occasionally squeeze her palm inadvertently, Yu Luo’s left hand would noticeably pause. She would endure the short burst of pain and then continue washing.
Quite tough, huh?
A fire of inexplicable anger flared up inside Qi Song. She strode into the kitchen and said in a cold voice, “Why are you forcing yourself when your hand is injured? You can dish out a hundred million, but you can’t afford a cooking auntie for the house?”
Yu Luo seemed surprised that she had come back. She blinked, then answered the second question a beat later, “I have one. I happened to give her the day off today.”
She completely ignored the first, more important question.
Qi Song pressed her lips together and didn’t ask again.
She expressionlessly herded the woman out of the kitchen and announced with an undeniable authority, “Go play with Taotao. I’ll cook.”
But Yu Luo didn’t leave. Instead, she leaned against the kitchen doorway, arms crossed lazily, a cryptic smile on her face.
“Why? You didn’t sign a nanny agreement, nor do you have any obligation to satisfy my personal needs.”
She threw Qi Song’s own words right back at her.
Qi Song didn’t reply, walking right up to Yu Luo in a few steps.
Yu Luo stared at her, her expression utterly innocent.
Paired with that dignified and otherworldly face, she couldn’t look more upright.
Qi Song raised her hands, grabbed her by the shoulders, and spun her around on the spot.
Yu Luo let out a confused “Hm?” but was very cooperative.
As she turned, the long hair draped over her shoulders flew with the movement, landing on the back of Qi Song’s hands.
A woman of few words and decisive action, Qi Song unceremoniously and swiftly stripped the only apron in the kitchen off her, then announced, “You can go now.”
The apron had a neck strap, and removing it from Yu Luo’s body inevitably messed up her long, curly hair.
Especially since a certain someone’s movements contained a hint of deliberate intent.
Alas, for Yu Luo, dishevelment had its own kind of beauty.
Her lovely face was half-hidden by strands of hair. She raised an eyebrow and said leisurely, “What’s this, you’re just going to throw me away after stripping me?”
The way she said it.
Slap.
The kitchen door was slammed shut in her face.
Yu Luo stared at the closed door, a novel feeling washing over her.
She had never had a door slammed in her face before.
She stood there for a good few seconds before turning and slowly ambling toward the living room.
As she walked, she muttered under her breath, “Tsk, how fierce.”
But her tone was full of laughter.
